Chapter LXXVI: Panther's Rage.

Last Time.

Avengers Tower.

"Hey, guys, still not-exploded, I see."

Marvel saluted the ones that stayed as Naruto walked out of the ship rolling his arm. "Just came back for my ride."

"While you were gone, I made an upgrade to your backup system." Iron Man said as he looked back.

"You upgraded my plane? Without asking me?" She asked, opening it and saw an Avengers card. "An Avengers ID? You call this an upgrade?"

"There's no better backup than having a team that's always got your back. Don't worry. You can consider us reserves." Captain America said, saluting her.

"Call me anytime you need me, Army. Or I'll call when I need you." She said getting in before seeing a drone.

"Guys, we missed a drone!"

Hawkeye then shot it and looked at Marvel. "That's for Helsinki."

"You're adorable, Hawkeye."

She closed the hatch and flew off smiling.

United Nation.

"Thank you, General Assembly, for the warm welcome."

An African man in a suit said to the crowd as two bald dark skin women in suits stood in front of the podium.

Shinobi and Captain America walked around before the man continued after noticing them. "I am T'Challa, king of the African nation of Wakanda. Most of you know me as the Black Panther. Wakanda is an isolated nation, a private sanctuary, an independent kingdom that has thrived for thousands of years."

In the hall, Crossbones broke through the window on a motorcycle and stood after stopping. "Hold it right there."

"Freeze!"

"Hands in the air!"

"Get on the ground, now!"

The security yelled, aiming at the villain who chuckled. "Which is it? Freeze, get on the ground, hands in the air? Come on, guys. Make up your mind." He said, pulling a laser pistol and shooting bolts of electricity at the men.

"Crossbones!"

He turned as Cap punched him and looked down. "I don't suppose you're here to be inspired by the speeches."

"Someone paid me to eliminate the king. But you, Cap? I'm taking you out for free."

Crossbones attacked as Cap blocked with his shield before Crossbones grabbed one of the men. "Oof!"

And was hit in the head with Naruto's shield before being hit in the stomach with Cap's

As they fought, a man in a black armored panther-themed outfit with silver around his neck like a necklace knocked Crossbones out as Cap's shield was lodged in a wall.

"I am the Black Panther, and this belongs to me." He said taking Cap's shield.

"I know who you are, Black Panther, but that's my shield you've got there, and I'd like it back."

Cap reached for it before Black Panther fought him. "Tell me, Captain America, is it really your shield?"

"Even wrote my name on the back… In permanent marker!"

Panther then punched Cap to the ground and jumped back. "You have my respect for helping me stop Crossbones. But this shield belongs to the people of Wakanda. Now, if you will excuse me."

Naruto ran over as Black Panther got on a rather advanced jet flew past as Panther grappled onto it.

Avengers Tower.

"King T'Challa, aka the Black Panther."

Iron Man said as he, Naruto, Thor, Cap, and Hawkeye looked at the video of Panther.

"Leader of the nation of Wakanda," Hawkeye said as Thor looked over.

"I have traveled many times across the Earth, Hawkeye, but I have never been to Wakanda."

"No one gets into Wakanda. Trust me, I know. Wakanda's a closed country. Technologically advanced, rich, powerful, never been conquered. Plenty have tried, though."

"It's because of the Vibranium. Rare, indestructible metal." Iron Man said showing the metal. "Wakanda's the only place on the planet with access to lots of it."

"You know, Iron Man may be on to something. Cap's shield is made of Vibranium. Maybe that's why the king decided to swipe it."

"Black Panther asked me if it was really my shield," Cap said after Hawkeye. "The way he asked, he wasn't looking for an answer. He was sending a message. There's something else going on here. I intend to find out what."

Wakandan Border Aven-Jet.

"Well, we're at the Wakandan border. They haven't noticed us yet. Aven-Jet uses my latest stealth technology. By the time they realize we're here, we'll be…" Iron Man stopped as a beep was heard

"This is Wakandan Air Defense Command. You have ten seconds to change direction and leave Wakanda." A man said over the radio as an alarm went off.

"That would be one of their missiles locking onto us," Hawkeye said as Cap pressed a button.

"This is Captain America, requesting permission to enter your airspace. I know we have our differences, but if I can meet with your king, I'm confident we can work out our-" He stopped as the alarm got louder.

"And that would be a billion of their missiles locking onto us."

"Stand down, Air Defense Command. We'll comply."

They jumped out as the jet turned while Thor carried Hawkeye, Iron Man carried Cap, and Naruto dropped lower before turning on his jetpack. "Aven-Jet on autopilot while we fly in under the radar. Oldest trick in the book." Iron Man said before they landed at the forest courtyard with multiple statues.

They all ran into the trees before stopping to walk before Cap glanced back forcing them to stop. "We're being hunted."

Naruto turned and was tackled into the bushes and looked to see it was another bald woman wearing a tight black bodysuit with armor in various places.

"Whoa! Hey, we're just here to see the king."

"We are the Adored Ones... The Dora Milaje, bodyguards to the Black Panther." She replied, bringing a spearhead to his throat. "And no one sees the king."

Naruto rolled them over before getting up to see several more around them before attacking. "Whoa! Hey! We're no threat to Your Royal Highness." Iron Man said to the one he fought.

"Your combat skills are impressive, but your strength is no match for the prince of Asgard!" Thor said, deflecting a spear from his attacker.

"I do not know why strong men always boast so, but it makes it much more satisfying when they fall."

"Thor, can you give me a tiny bit of weather?" Cap asked, dodging one as Naruto used his tonfas to block an attack.

"Mine enchanted hammer cannot do "tiny." It has but one level... Mighty!"

CRACK!

Cap ran out to the castle and saw his shield on display. "Not exactly hidden." He ran to it and stopped as turrets came out of the ceiling and started firing at him.

"Whoa!"

Naruto came flying in with his shield before sliding on his back and having bullets bounce off his shield. "Shit!"

Cap grabbed his shield dodging several traps before tossing it to hit the turrets before he and Naruto were inside a red energy shield having his own bounce off into Black Panther's hand.

"Power down," Hew said, placing the shield back on display. "You are no doubt aware that you are trespassing. You had better come with me, Captain America, assuming you wish to avoid any further unpleasantness."

Later, Panther was on his throne as the mouth part opened. "I am sorry, Avengers, but there is nothing more to be said. The shield belongs to me."

"That's ridiculous. Cap was frozen in ice with that shield before you were even born." Iron Man said from his spot.

"And it's got that delightful red, white, and blue paint job. Kind of makes me think it ain't yours." Hawkeye said before Thor walked up.

"I am sure the Black Panther will explain why he believes it was his right to take the shield."

Black Panther then tossed a small metal nugget, having Cap catch it. "Do you know what you are holding?"

"Guessing about 10 million dollars' worth of Vibranium," Cap replied before tossing it back.

"20 million, actually. All Vibranium belongs to Wakanda. Any unauthorized Vibranium outside our borders was stolen.

Howard Stark made the shield decades ago. I was there. He gave it to me." Cap said as Panther glared.

"It was never his to give. Howard Stark stole from Wakanda to build that shield."

"That's not true."

"Hmm. There is a new unknown party that has been stealing the precious Vibranium. In response, I ordered all of our mines locked down." A hologram of the area came up on the floor. "The resulting shortage has made the mystery thieves desperate."

"Desperate enough to send Crossbones after you," Naruto spoke, looking up. "With you out of the way, the country would drop into chaos, and the Vibranium would be theirs."

"Indeed. To draw out my foe, I needed an irresistible display of Vibranium. Your shield is the bait in my trap." Panther said before standing and had his cowl covered up again before an alarm went off. "And the thief reveals himself."

They ran out to see a man with fair skin, brown hair, a beard, and a weapon for a left arm wearing a safari shirt, cargo pants, and boots.

"Klaue."

"What?" Naruto turned to Cap at that. "Klaw? What the hell? That's what he looks like?"

"Yeah, why?" Iron Man asked the ninja.

"I've only seen him in that stupid costume of his."

"He's a villain of living sound."

"No need for introductions. Black Panther and I are old friends. I hope you don't mind. I ordered Crossbones to send my regards." Klaue said as Hawkeye walked up.

"You know, he says "friends," but I don't know. I don't think he means it."

"It makes me unhappy to see you looking so well. The last I had heard, your body had been blasted into nothingness." Panther said, crossing his arms.

"Oh, I ain't dead. But you won't be so lucky." Klaue said holding up his new claw and having sound waves shoot out, shattering the energy shield.

"Move!"

"Since you last saw me, I've become the ultimate master of sound," Klaue said, throwing another wave at the heroes and king.

"No. It's too dangerous, Your Highness."

"I will handle this. Aneka, you and the Dora Milaje, get the palace staff and personnel out of harm's way." Panther said to the woman who got up to him.

He ran at Klaue to fight him before being pushed back Cap ran up to fight only to get it back as the walls started crumbling. "This will scramble your insides. Permanently!"

"Give up, Klaue. You're outnumbered, outgunned, and outclassed." Iron Man said shooting at him as well forcing Klaue to retreat.

"It's been fun, but I have more important matters at hand," Klaue said, throwing Cap's shield up, hitting it with a wave, and running out after catching it.

"Well, that was interesting."

"Klaue has disappeared."

"No doubt with Captain America's shield."

"You've got his trail?: Capo asked, standing as Panther walked up.

"I will take care of Klaue myself. This is a Wakandan matter. It does not concern you, Captain."

"Hawkeye, did you tag him with your tracking beacon?"

"Come on. It's me. Do you even need to ask?"

"There's something big in play here, and you know it," Cap said to the king. "Until we get my shield back, you and I are working together."

"You are in Wakanda. You do not give the orders here."

"The Avengers can track down Klaue themselves, or we can combine forces and work together," Cap said as Panther narrowed his eyes.

"You presume too much, Captain. But very well. If only to make certain you keep out of my way."

Later, the group is in a jet. Naruto is in the back leaning back before opening his eyes to look at Aneka. "So, Aneka, can the Dora Milaje talk to us, or is-"

"Do not distract me."

"Just trying to get a feel for you as a teammate," Naruto replied, closing his eyes.

"Man! His Majesty, the Black Panther, doesn't have much of a personality, does he?" Hawkeye said as Iron Man leaned forward.

"Yeah, I noticed. We're not from Wakanda, so he doesn't have to be friendly."

"You misunderstand the Black Panther's reticence. He is that way because he must be. As royalty, every action, every decision he makes must be to protect his society." Thor said to them before Aneka looked up.

"Since the thwarted HYDRA invasion that nearly killed his father, King T'Challa has kept Wakanda closed. He defies his own rules by even traveling with you like this."

"Oh, so they can talk to us." Naruto sighed out from his spot.

"The past is the past. Now we are working together, for that is the only way forward." Thor said, turning to face her.

Himalayas.

The Avengers and Black Panther got into a castle to see Klaue in holograms before going down through the floor.

"When I last fought you, Avengers, my body was almost merged with Vibranium. It was exhilarating, but I needed more. My mind and body needed appropriate armor."

Klaue jumped up in a Hulk-buster-like armor of his suit.

"Now I have one, made of Vibranium. Beautiful, indestructible Vibranium. I took this place to be my fortress. Now it'll be your tomb!" He attacked with his sound wave

"Avengers, somebody cut the volume!"

Naruto tossed his shield to hit the arm, having Thor run up and throw Mjölnir. They all attacked Klaue and flew around attacking them. "Do your worst. I can take it. I'm invincible!"

"Get away from my king!" Aneka attacked before Klaue kicked her back, grabbed her spear, and threw it.

Only for Naruto to dive and catch it as Panther pulled her up. He then dashed and attacked with his shield before Thor called lightning and tackled Klaue hitting the thrusters. Klaue then hit the floor sending everyone outside before grabbing onto the wall. "I owe you thanks."

Naruto turned to Aneka at that. "Distracting Klaue saved my life and that of my king."

"Uh, you might get the chance to return the favor real soon," Naruto said as he looked to see Klaue walk out.

"Still alive? How disappointing."

"What's disappointing is your face, Klaue."

"Was that loud enough to hear?" Thor laughed as Klaue attacked.

"I heard every word, and I'll hear your screams as you perish!"

"Courage and spirit. You Avengers surprise me." Panther said to Cap as Naruto dashed over.

And was hit with a sound wave sending him off the cliff. Only for Aneka to grab him. "That was real soon."

"Returning the favor, Shinobi."

They all attacked as Iron Man jammed Klaue's signal before shooting his unibeam and had Klaue shoot out of his armor and missing his claw weapon. "Klaue, I am taking you back to Wakanda to answer for your crimes." Panther said as Klaue looked up "Did you hear me?" Klaue ran to attack only to get knocked out. "I will take that as a yes."

Wakanda.

"This Vibranium belongs to your people."

Cap said to Panther who had his cowl off.

"Hmm. The shield once belonged here, but now it is better in your deserving hands. My people would be proud to have you wield it. And I think my father would too."

Naruto walked up to see Aneka in his bodyguard outfit with tinted glasses "So, Aneka, you back on guard duty again?"

"Actually, the king now believes we Dora Milaje can do more. He means to make me head of special forces, or ambassador to Switzerland. One or the other."

Naruto smiled under his mask before walking out. "Quinjet's two minutes out. We're ready to get outta your hair." Iron Man said before Panther looked at them

"Nonsense. You Avengers must stay as our guests. Allow us to show you Wakandan's hospitality.

"Ho-ho-ho, hospitality. Does that mean we get to stay overnight in your palace?" Hawkeye said to the king who laughed.

"No. Outsiders do not sleep in the palace. But in your case, perhaps I will make an exception."

"Black Panther, could you ever see yourself joining the Avengers?" Cap said before they walked into the palace.

"One step at a time, my friends. One step at a time."
