Book Five

Epilogue

Chapter I

Start Of Elections.

Election! Avatar Korra goes to talk with President Raiko about the Military presence at the new Spirit Portal. But all he has on his mind is the election. Can anyone help Korra, or run against him?

Republic City Police Station

Lin sat at her desk, with Mako and Bolin standing before her, as she read a report.

"… After Tokuga was attacked by a dragon-eel spirit, he and the Triple Threats fled in vehicles heading west, while the spirits returned into the portal..."

"There's one more thing, Chief... We think Tokuga was hired to attack the airbenders." Mako said, getting her attention.

"Hired? By who?"

"Naruto and Korra have a hunch that it was Wonyong Keum," Mako replied as she dropped the files.

"A hunch based on what?"

"They and the airbenders had a run-in with him at the portal a few days before Tokuga showed up."

Bolin nodded and picked up after that. "Yeah, Korra said that this Wonyong guy threatened the airbenders if they didn't get off his land. No one threatens my Opal!"

"So you're buying into Korra's cockamamie theory?" She asked, lacing her fingers together.

It's plausible. I was thinking we could bring Mr. Keum in for questioning and -!"

Bang!

Mako stopped as Lin slammed her hand on the desk. "You will do no such thing!"

"Why not?"

Lin turned to look out the window behind her. "Wonyong Keum is Republic City's most powerful and well-connected land developer."

"That doesn't make him above the law," Mako replied as she sighed.

"No. But it makes him very difficult to get to." Glancing back at them, she continued. "Unless you bring me some hard evidence that Keum is in tight with the Triple Threats, I'm not going near the guy. Understood?"

"Yes, Chief."

Outside the office, Mako and Bolin walk down a carpeted land flanked by desks and working officers. "Guess that lead's a dead-end," Bolin said to his brother who glanced over.

"Maybe not. Time to visit our twelve-toed friend."

Prison.

"Hey, Ping."

Ping, who was reading on his bed, looked up from his book and saw Mako and Bolin standing on the other side of the bars. "How are my two favorite officers doin' on this fine day?"

"Doing great! Thanks for asking." Bolin replied as his brother grabbed the bars.

"We're trying to track down your boss and I thought you might be able to point us in the direction of the Triple Threats' new hideout."

"I wish I could help you, boys, out, I do. But the thing is, Tokuga made the Triple Threats change hideouts every few days. I got no idea where he's holed up now." Ping replied, sitting up to pick his toes.

"I hate to break it to you, but Tokuga's not coming to save you. You don't owe him your loyalty anymore. Give us the info we need, and I'll talk to Beifong about getting you some better accommodations."

"And some socks." Bolin picked up as Ping got up and walked to the bars, looking straight at them. "I'm being straight with you. It's not like Tokuga's' sending me messages in here."

"Come on, Ping! I know you're holding out!"

"Mako, you gotta relax. All this police work is stressing you out."

Bolin, a hand on his chin, lost in thought before blinking and spoke up as he remembered something. "Mako, remember how when we were kids, Lightning Bolt Zolt would use us to pass secret messages between Triad members?"

"Yeah...?"

"Maybe Tokuga's doing the same thing!" Bolin said as Mako turned to Ping. "What do you say, Ping? Does that sound about right? Is Tokuga using kids to relay info to all the Triple Threats?"

Ping averting his gaze, began to sweat. "I mean... Maybe... I couldn't say for sure..."

"I'll take that as a 'yes'." The two leave Ping in his cell and walk back down the hall toward the exit before Mako looks over. "That was some good thinking back there, Bolin. You might make a pretty good cop after all."

"Thanks! I'm learning from the best."

Construction Site.

Earthbenders are clearing the ground by piling loose dirt into a mound; two metalbenders then pile-drive an I-beam into the ground; and a person uses a hummingbird-mecha suit to plasma-cut high above the ground. Asami and Zhu Li on a nearby rooftop, are surveying the scene from above, the sounds of the site carrying faintly up to their vantage point.

"If everything stays on schedule, we should be able to move in the first group of evacuees in a few months."

Zhu Li nodded as she held a blueprint. "Hopefully I can convince them all to be patient for a little while longer."

Hearing a noise behind them, they both turn to see Raiko and Wenyan speaking to a group of refugees. "What is Raiko doing with those evacuees?" Asami asked as Zhu Li folded the blueprints.

"My guess? He's trying to save his job."

"I know this has been a trying time for all of you, and that's why I've fast-tracked this new construction project! I'll be working around the clock to get you into your new homes just as quickly as possible." Raiko said to the group.

"And how quickly will that be?"

"Well... A project of this scale... It doesn't just happen overnight-" Raiko stopped as Wenyan picked up.

"You'll be sipping refreshing watermelon juice from your balconies by the end of the month! Guaranteed!"

"So soon? That's great!"

"Thank you, President Raiko!"

"I love watermelon juice!"

Wenyan then walked over to a large picture covered by a sheet." A life of safety and security will soon be yours at…" He then pulled the sheet away, revealing the concept art of the future building's appearance. "The Raiko Residencies!"

"Asami and Zhu Li approach Raiko. He takes their sudden appearance in stride. "Look everyone, it's Asami Uzumaki and Zhu Li Moon! They're overseeing the construction of your new homes."

"President Raiko, a word please?" Zhu Li asked as Wenyan spoke.

"Let's get a photo!"

As the four of them pose with the image behind them, the two women confront him, speaking under their breath. "You need to tell your advisor to stop making promises you can't keep."

"And the 'Raiko Residencies'? Really? Have you already forgotten that we brought this idea to you?" Asami asked as he ignored them.

"Always a pleasure, ladies."

Wenyan then escorts Raiko away from the image and the group. "Thank you all for coming. Remember, a vote for Raiko is a vote for the future!"

Asami sighed at that. "I need Naruto for some d-!"

She stopped as she saw a flying bison in front of him; riding on its back were Tenzin and Korra with Naruto dropping down. "Raiko, we need to talk!"

"I'll deal with this, sir," Wenyan said as he stepped forward to meet her, holding a hand out as she jumped from the bison. "The president is extremely busy. If you want to speak with him, you'll need to make an appointment, just like everyone else-"

He stopped as Korra casually metalbends a thin band over his mouth, gagging him. She walks past him as he moans under the gag, trying to free his mouth. "You. Shut it." Reaching Raiko with Tenzin, she points a finger in the former's face. "The portal is sacred land. You can't turn it into a military base."

"You need to call off the United Forces," Naruto said, walking over.

"I most certainly will not."

"If you don't, you're looking at another spirit crisis on your hands. Who's going to vote for you then?" Korra asked, crossing her arms under her bust.

"We wouldn't have a crisis if you hadn't created that portal in the first place."

"I didn't exactly do it on purpose! Kuvira's spirit weapon was out of control. I had to save the city!"

"And in doing so, you destroyed these poor people's homes. Entire neighborhoods were leveled in the blink of an eye." He said, turning to address the group behind him. "The Avatar claims to have your best interests at heart... But while you were all returning to the city and picking up the pieces, guess where Avatar Korra was? On vacation!"

"No, it wasn't like that."

"What kind of Avatar takes a vacation in the middle of a crisis?"

"Disgraceful!"

"Avatar Korra ruined my life!"

The people and kids spoke as Raiko pointed a finger in Korra's face, her eyes following it in confusion. "Because of your recklessness and selfishness, these people's lives have been shattered. And as usual, I'm left to deal with the consequences."

"You have some nerve for such a coward. When Republic City needed a true leader, Korra and Naruto stepped up." Asami said, grabbing Naruto's right arm, at that.

"That's right. If it hadn't been for her, we'd all be living under Kuvira's dictatorship right now." Tenzin spoke up after.

"It's okay... Let's go." Korra said, turning with her head down as Naruto wrapped his arm around her waist.

They then turn and walk away from Raiko, giving up on convincing him. They head for the mobile trailer acting as Asami's on-site office. "Someone needs to put Raiko in his place. Tenzin, you should run for president. Raiko wouldn't stand a chance against the son of Avatar Aang. You'd win in a landslide." Asami said as Tenzin stopped outside the door. "No, my days in United Republic politics are behind me. Leading the Air Nation is my priority now. But there's someone else much more capable of leading the United Republic… Zhu Li."

Zhu Li blinked at that. "Me...?"

"If you were able to keep up with all of Varrick's ridiculous demands, leading the Republic would seem easy."

Korra smiled at that. "That's a great idea!"

"It's an intriguing proposal... I've been so focused on the evacuee crisis, the thought hadn't crossed my mind."

Tenzin nodded and continued. "That's exactly why you would make such an exemplary leader – you're so compassionate to the needs of others."

"And you and I would make a great partnership. I'm tired of butting heads with Raiko. It would be nice to have a president I see eye-to-eye with." Korra said to her.

Zhu Li looked down at that. "I... Don't know…" She then looked up at the others again. "But thank you. I'll take it under advisement." Turning away from them, she spoke over her shoulder. "Tenzin, we should get back to the camp. The new shipment of food and supplies is coming in from Ba Sing Se, and I want to make sure it gets dispersed in a timely fashion."

"Lead the way." Tenzin followed as Asami waved at them.

"See you soon, President Moon!" Asami then turned to her lovers. "See? It has a nice ring to it."

Naruto smiled as he patted her on the ass. The trio then walks into the trailer; its interior, mostly empty, consists of a few notice boards hung on the walls and a single desk on its far side with a door. "We went back to the Spirit World this morning…" Korra said, turning toward Asami as she closed the door. "That beautiful field of flowers we walked through... It's a wasteland now."

"It is...? That's awful."

Korra then went to the desk and sat on the edge, eyes downcast. "When we stepped through that portal, I thought my life was finally changing for the better. But now that we're back, it feels like nothing's any different… Raiko's still impossible to deal with, the city's still a mess, and now the people are starting to turn on me again."

Naruto walked to her and hugged his wife.

Later. (1.)

Naruto pulled his pants up as his wives cuddled on the bed under the sheets in the room behind the office, their skin still glistening with sweat. Korra then kissed Asami before pulling back to let Naruto see their dueling tongues before pulling back to look at him. "Thanks… I needed that."

"No problem," Naruto smirked as Asami licked a substance off Korra's cheek.

He then walked out and closed the door as he saw Asami pull Korra back in for a kiss, having their breasts push together.

To Be Continued.
