I've realized (with heavy disappointment) that there was only Torque being written for 'XCOM: Chimera squad' fanfictions and the other agents being treated like side characters, so I've created this. My favorites are Verge, Terminal, and Cherub.
This is a story-based form of Chimera squad with many tweaks in it, like in-between missions and such. I'll also add an OC to this later in the story, she won't be showing up much though.
Yes, yes, another story anyone who reads this can yell at me for for not finishing... probably.
~Terminal~
It's my first day on the job. Terminal thought, looking around Chimera squad's headquarters with interest.
"Hey there, I'm Whisper. I take it you're the new recruit, agent Terminal, right?" A man no taller than her said. Terminal nodded, "Yep, that's me." She said.
"Well then, let me show you around." He said and descended some stairs at the part where the railing should have met the wall.
"That's the situation platform," Whisper said, pointing to a raised, balcony-ish area in the righthand corner of the building.
Whisper walked over to the underside of the platform that Terminal had earlier thought to be a odd colored patch of wall due to her high angle. As Whisper walked- Terminal trailing behind him- he said, "I just want to clarify that you'll be working with aliens, not just humans." Terminal nodded to show that she understood. She didn't have a problem with working alongside non-humans, unlike most.
"Whisper, is the new recruit here yet?" A childish voice asked. "Yeah, she's here." Whisper said. "May we all meet her?" A different voice questioned. Whisper didn't reply, instead stepping to the side, as he had been blocking Terminal from view, and was about to the stairs to go do whatever was above on the situation platform, however, he stopped.
She stepped forward , looking around the area. A locker room from what she could tell- albeit a locker room with an entire wall missing to act as the doorway. Terminal saw what her species- humans- would call a 'sectoid' to her right and a 'hybrid' in front of her, both aliens.
"Hey there." Terminal said, waving at the two aliens sitting down on the bench lining the lockers.
"Now, before everyone introduces themselves, we are waiting for one more person to get here so that everyone doesn't have to repeatedly state their field name." Whisper said, turning to Terminal. "Pick your locker, then everyone meet me at the situation area." He walked away.
Terminal nodded and stepped across the room, stopping at a locker next to one of the aliens. "Dibs on this one." She said, placing the few things she had brought; a couple of energy bars, a change of field clothes, and a few things that were for medical use.
The hybrid next to her locker that Terminal claimed attempted to introduce themselves, "Hey, so I know Whisper said not to say your field name until later, but... my field name's Ch-"
"Recruits' here!" Aforementioned man called from above. The hybrid seemed down that he couldn't finish saying his name. "Hey, cheer up Mr. gloomy, I feel like I've done something wrong." Terminal said jokingly. The hybrid looked less upset, instead it seemed like he wanted to laugh at that, if the slight quirk of his lips meant anything.
Mission accomplished. Terminal thought, giving a small grin to the hybrid then walking out the area.
The hybrid caught up to her after he remembered that everyone was meant to be upstairs. The sectoid agent was already upstairs.
When Terminal got up the stairs, she almost gasped at the projection of the city that was on the table in the center of the platform.
Incredible. Terminal thought, staring at the City 31-shaped hologram. The projection was a rough look of the city at an angled ariel view, and it wasn't just one big hologram either, there were areas cut from others to show that it was a section of City 31. There were nine sections in total. I wonder if there's something else this hologram can do-
Terminal was brought out of her thought by someone clearing their throat. Snapping to attention, she focused on Whisper, wondering what he was about to say.
"Hello everyone, welcome to Chimera squad. I'd like for everyone to say their name, but before that, there's someone I'd like ya'll to meet." Terminal's eyes widened as a familiar older woman came up the steps.
"Miss Sarasota?!" She squeaked.
"Hello dear." A woman who looked like she was in her 30's said, a slight smile on her lips.
Whisper looked surprised, as did everyone else (in varying degrees of surprise).
"Um, yes, this is the new-er recruit of the morning." He said, "And, agent Terminal? Her field name is Godmother."
Terminal tilted her head down and looked away, seemingly embarrassed. "Sorry..." She mumbled in a quiet voice.
"It's fine, although I didn't expect you to be here either." Godmother said in her Australian accent.
Whisper walked to a side of the platform that had computers on a curved desk, turning around to address the group.
"Right, everyone's here. We can begin introductions, counter-clockwise." That meant Terminal was first.
"Agent Terminal, medic. Personally, I have no hate or dislike for aliens so we should all get along." She said, emphasizing 'should' like it was a question.
Godmother's turn, "Agent Godmother, pleasure to make your acquaintance." And that was it.
The sectoid from the locker area was next. "Agent Verge, the psionic of the group it appears." He said.
The hybrid that had been upset earlier was now bright and cheery, literally waving at everyone as he introduced himself, "Hey. I'm agent Cherub, shield protector." He held up his left arm and a orange energy shield sprang to life. Terminal looked at it curiously, Cherub must have seen her face because he said, "shields up." And slammed the energy shield down, forming a barrier around Terminal. She squeaked in surprise, attempting to get away from it but to no avail, the shield just moved along with her.
Cherub dispelled the shield, laughing. Terminal quickly composed herself, giving a light-hearted glare in Cherub's direction.
Well this might be interesting. Terminal thought.
Suddenly an alarm sounded.
"We've got our first assignment, protect mayor Nightingale and escort her to safety." Whisper said surprised, looking at the computers at one end of the city projection table.
Yep, definitely interesting. Terminal thought.
"Chimera squad, roll out!" Whisper shouted.
So 'Protect mayor Nightingale' is actually the tutorial but I thought to use it because it's part of the beginning of the entire game. The mission will be the next few chapters.
