CHAPTER THREE - Her gift discovery

Tuesday 18th June 2013, Chamberlain, Maine

The next day at Ewen High on the sports field

Miss Desjardin was having a class doing their sports lessons on the field. Most of the students were the Ultras. There were some other other students on the bench either minding their own business or watching the field.

Miss Desjardin blew her whistle to the girls sitting on the floor "All right stand up please."

All the girls stood up and stood in lines and looked at Miss Desjardin as she spoke to them "You have a big week coming up, a big month actually. Probably the biggest month of your lives."

"Prom and then graduation. Are you excited?" Miss Desjardin asked all the girls.

All the girl were smiling and laughing, showing they were indeed excited for this month.

"Probably y'all have you dresses, have your dates by now." Miss Desjardin said.

Christine looks at her gym teacher with slight suspicious.

Miss Desjardin turned and walks to Christine.

"What about you Chris?" Miss Desjardin said looking at her.

She came to her face, smiling at her.

"Who's the lucky guy?" Miss Desjardin asked.

"Billy Nolan. You don't know him, he doesn't go to this school" Chris answered.

"Are you going to get him a boutonniere? Or are you just going to pin a bloody tampon to his lapel?" Miss Desjardin asked.

The girls including Chris were a little taken aback by this. But Chris composed herself and said "I so don't need to hear this."

Chris try's to walk away but before she could even take her first step Miss Desjardin stops her.

"You're not going anywhere." Miss Desjardin said immediately before turning and walking to Sue.

"What about you Sue? Are you and Tommy busy campaigning to be Prom King and Queen?" Miss Desjardin asked.

She stands in front of Sue. "I would have voted for you… not now." Miss Desjardin said.

As Miss Desjardin walks away from Sue, Sue try's to keep a straight face but deep down, she felt ashamed by what she did to Carrie.

"You all did a shitty thing yesterday, a really shitty thing. And one of you had the audacity to post a video." Miss Desjardin said with slight anger.

"Somebody made a video of it?"

The girls began to start whispering to each other, either having no idea or acting dumb a video of the incident was posted on the internet.

Feeling a little pissed off, Chris said "This is bullshit."

"That's it, thanks to Miss Hargensen, you're all running suicides." Miss Desjardin said.

All the girls groan in annoyance and displeasure.

Chris shakes her head "I'm not doing it."

"That's up to you. That's up to all of you, but anyone who stops running is suspended and if you're suspended, you're not going to prom." Miss Desjardin said.

All the girls looked defeated and had no choice but to listen, all of them not wanting to miss prom because they have all been dreaming about that forever.

"While you're running, I'd like for you to think long and hard about what it would be like to be Carrie White." Miss Desjardin said looking at Sue. The girls started to run.

At the front entrance of Ewen High School

A car arrives at the school entrance with Carrie and Margaret being inside. Ever since last night, Carrie looked so defeated and submitted as she didn't bother arguing back anymore.

Margaret gives Carrie a kiss on her cheek.

"I'll be okay." Carrie said.

"I'm going to leave work early today and pick you up after school." Margaret said.

Carrie steps out of the car and shuts the door behind her. She definitely didn't look happy or pleased hearing her Momma was gonna pick her up right when she left school. She started walking to the school.

Back at the Gym's Sports Field

All the girls were still running rounds around the field for minutes. They all felt so tired and they all felt their legs burning and felt like they couldn't take it anymore but kept pushing on forward fearing that they wouldn't go to prom if they stopped.

"She can't do this to me." Chris said in an exhausted voice due to too much running.

"Just let it go, Chris. We're almost done." Sue said also in an exhausted voice from too much running.

"Then every day this week? All because of Carrie White?" Chris said.

"Like hell I will." Chris said as she stopped running.

Miss Desjardin immediately saw her stop running and told her "Keep moving Hargensen! Keep running or you're not going to prom."

Chris having enough of her "shit" as she believed slowly turned to her and said "Fuck you!"

All of her Ultra friends stared at Chris in shock not believing that Chris just had the guts to say that to Miss Desjardin. Miss Desjardin stared at her student in shock hearing her say that to her. Miss Desjardin never thought Chris would curse at a teacher when she didn't like something.

"This is child abuse." Chris said.

Miss Desjardin having enough of Chris and not liking what she just said to her, walked and came face to face with Chris and said "What did you say to me?"

"I'm not going to run another goddamn inch because Carrie White got her period and was too stupid to know what is was." Chris said with anger to Miss Desjardin face and looked at Sue smiling.

Miss Desjardin looked at Chris with disgust and in disbelief. She couldn't believe Chris could be this cruel and heartless. She couldn't believe Chris was this stupid to not realize what she did was wrong. Very wrong.

"What…." Sue said while looking at Chris in shock. Sue has never seen Chris this cruel and heartless before. There wasn't a single ounce of regret on her face. Chris was just smiling, almost like feeling proud for what she did yesterday to Carrie White. That evil smile made her look like a real life villain from comic books.

Now done with Chris Miss Desjardin officially decided and said to her "You're suspended. You're out of prom and you're out of my class. Now!" Miss Desjardin turned away from Chris to resume the class.

Chris not giving up and feeling confident said "No."

"No!?" Miss Desjardin said with anger immediately turning back to Chris and looking directly at her.

"She can't do this to us." Chris said with a little desperation in her voice.

Miss Desjardin hearing the slight desperation in her voice and seeing Chris will not win this argument, smiled a little and told her "Goodbye Chris."

"The rest of you, keep at it." Miss Desjardin told the other girls while walking away.

Chris turned to Tina. "Someone could die of dehydration. Tina you have a heart condition right?"

Tina looked at Chris, not sure what to do.

All the while Sue kept watching Chris in disbelief still trying to convince them they should join her and that they didn't do anything wrong even after being officially suspended. Sue could clearly tell Chris was losing her mind or maybe had already lost her mind.

"If we all stick together, they're not going to suspend all of us. They're not going to keep us all from prom. There would be no prom." Chris said now getting desperate.

Chris looked at the twins. "Nicki, Lizzy?" Chris said.

The twins looked at each other and slightly shook their heads.

"Lets go ladies!" Miss Desjardin said again in a loud voice, ignoring what Chris was saying.

"Heather?" Chris said. Heather hides her face with her cap and slightly looks away from Chris.

"This is bullshit! We didn't do anything wrong." Chris now said with anger and desperation, sounding like if she wanted to cry.

"All right, let's go." Miss Desjardin said now feeling annoyed by Chris.

Chris in one last attempt walked to Sue. "Right Sue? You're with me right?" Chris was sure Sue would listen to her since they have been best friends for years and were always side by side no matter what. Chris thought maybe Sue would be able to convince the other members of the Ultras to join her and stop Miss Desjardin.

"Come on. Sue." Chris said seeing the slight hesitation on Sue.

But Sue only had on an emotionless face seeing the way Chris is acting and seeing Chris was not gonna admit they did something wrong. When Chris tried to pull Sue with her, Sue pulled back and shakes her head. Sue makes Chris let go of her and goes back running. Chris looks stunned by this seeing for the first time Sue abandon her.

Miss Desjardin blows her whistle, "Keep going ladies."

Chris watches Sue and the everyone in disbelief as they continue their running while Chris was completely alone and was now suspended from prom with no one to help her. Chris felt so confident that everyone would follow her like they always did so they can't get suspended, but instead she got the completely opposite of what she wanted and now she got herself in this mess with no way out.

But Chris wasn't about to give up, she never does. She may have lost now, but will get them back later on.

"This isn't over." Chris said.

There was a new hatred growing inside of Chris. A type of hatred that was so dark and dangerous.

"This isn't over by a long shot." Chris said.

Inside Ewen High School

In the hallways, Carrie was walking down the hallway, trying her best to not look at anyone. The moment she stepped inside the school there were so many people, if not everyone were staring at her and some laughing at her. Carrie put her head down and tried her best not to cry. As she said even though she was used to it, it still hurt hearing them laugh at her.

"That's Carrie White" some girl said.

Carrie doesn't know that the reason why everyone was laughing at her was because of the video Chris uploaded of Carrie's period. Almost everyone in the school saw it and instead of saying it was wrong or feeling some sympathy for her, they found it funny and didn't feel bad for her at all.

Then Carrie turned her head to the left while walking and saw a writing on her locker that caused tears to form in her eyes.

'CARRIE WHITE EATS SHIT!"

Carrie immediately walked a little faster to a bathroom while everyone else around her continued laughing at her.

Carrie manages to find one of the girls bathrooms in the school and goes inside quickly. She goes to one of the sinks as she stares at herself in the mirror thats above it.

Carrie feels disgusted of herself, believing she is not beautiful, normal, and special. She was so tired and angry of everything that has been happening for all these years of her life and feels like she wouldn't be able to last for much longer. She felt like she wanted to break. That she would reach her breaking point soon. Nothing special ever happened in her life, she was just a poor lonely outcast girl that only knew what suffering was.

Carrie doesn't seem to realize that while she was staring at herself in the mirror miserably, it started to crack. It cracked more and more until the mirror breaks snapping Carrie out of it. The pieces fell onto the sink below.

Carrie looks a little stunned by what just happened.

'Did I just do that?' Carrie asked herself in her mind.

Carrie looked at the pieces intensely and concentrated for a few seconds. Then they started to float.

Carrie looks shocked and happy finding out she is the one doing this causing her to smile. 'I have powers?' Carrie thought. She concentrated a little more and more of the glass pieces were floating. She immediately took back what thought of herself just a couple seconds ago after discovering this. She continued to smile wider and wider, her first real smile, seeing that she was already starting to get how to use this ability she had.

Then the bathroom door opens, immediately making Carrie to drop the pieces back to the sink. She turns around and sees Heather Shyers, one of the members of the Ultras walk inside the bathroom.

Not feeling comfortable being around her, Carrie picks up her bag and walks out of the bathroom while Heather Shyers watches her.

After leaving the bathroom Carrie walks straight to the library since she remember Miss Desjardin told her yesterday to go there instead on gym class.

Carrie opened the doors to the library and stepped inside. Looking around she saw there were a lot of people reading books, doing something on the computers, or printing out stuff. There were people also working in the library either putting books on the shelves, doing something in their offices, or just finishing some paperwork.

Carrie looked at the computers and saw one of the computers weren't being used. She walked over to the seat and sat down. She was about to type what she wanted to search when she heard some fast typing next to her. She turned to her right and saw a boy she would see most of the time here in the library when she came. She heard his name before, Freddy Holt. He was typing something fast. He stopped and turned to look at her when she was staring at him.

Carrie turned back to look at the computer and began typing what she wanted to search. She typed on the search bar Magical Powers.

After searching and trying to find a description that matches what she did in the girls bathroom, Carrie found out what was her powers. Telekinesis.

Carrie goes through the bookshelves trying to find as many books about Telekinesis as possible. When she believed she found enough books she went to one of the empty tables, set her books on the tables, and sat down. She opened one of the books and started reading, trying to learn about Telekinesis as much as possible.

Carrie at one point got up from reading the book and walked to the same computer and went to a website and searched Telekinesis. There she found 100's of videos that showed people moving things without even touching them. She didn't know if these videos were real or fake but she was still interested. She clicked on one of the videos and she watched as it showed a hand of a female somehow moving the pages of a book without touching it. Carrie smiled seeing that, thinking about doing the same thing later in the day. In fact she decides she should start practicing her powers so she can find out what else she can do and try to master them so she could better control them and be prepare to use them when necessarily. She wonders after seeing 100's of these videos posted on the internet if there could be more people like her out there. More people with Telekinesis.

While watching the video, the same boy from before came up to Carrie and told her "Um, you know…"

Carrie immediately looks behind her and sees the same boy Freddy Holt. She was about to think it was a trick when…..

"Sorry. I was just going to say, you can make it full screen." Freddy Holt said.

Carrie relaxed hearing that. She looked down and saw Freddy Holt fingers moving on the computer and moving the arrow to the full screen button.

"Watch." Freddy Holt said.

Freddy Holt pressed the full screen button and the screen of the video covered the whole computer. Carrie was glad this wasn't a trick and was thankful for Freddy Holt help.

Freddy Holt turned around and walked out of the library.

Carrie kept watching the video, fascinated by seeing what you could do with Telekinesis. 'And this is just moving paper' Carrie thought. 'Imagine how much more can I do? There are 100's of these videos, just imagine how much information about Telekinesis I am about to learn?' Carrie thought. Moving things with your mind without moving a single finger?! Carrie thought it was amazing. It made her feel powerful. She thought she could do whatever she wants, whenever she wants.

While Carrie continued watching the video she overheard some students talking about something.

"Did you hear about the ships that went missing yesterday in the Atlantic Ocean?" A student said.

This, for some reason got Carrie's attention as she turned and looked at the two boys and a girl that were sitting at a table across from her.

"Yea I did hear that, they said the ships just disappeared without a trace. One of them was a cargo ship, another was a fishing vessel, and the other one was a cruise ship." His friend said.

"What do you think happened to the people who were on bored those ships?" The student asked.

"Don't know. They haven't found a single person that were on bored those ships. I guess they are still missing, or worse, possibly dead." His friend said those last two words in a scared voice.

Carrie was watching and listening to them intently, having heard every word they just said. There were three ships that went missing without a trace in the Atlantic Ocean? That sounded, really strange. The topic about Telekinesis suddenly left her mind as she was interested on what they were saying and kept listening.

"Not only that. They said that a US nuclear submarine was send into the ocean so they try to find the remains of the ships or find what was the cause? They were somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean for hours before suddenly, they went offline." His friend said.

The student and girl looked at him with frighten eyes hearing that a US nuclear submarine just disappeared with no explanation.

Carrie who also heard that caused her eyes to widen in fright as well. How could three ships and a US nuclear submarine go missing without a trace? With no idea how they went down? Much less, in American waters. The US is suppose to be the most secure and powerful country in the world and yet, three ships and a nuclear submarine go missing. How? Who could have been able to do this?

"What do you think could have caused this?" The girl asked.

"Maybe it was the Chinese or the Russians" The student said.

"I don't know, maybe it could been aliens?" His friend said.

"Maybe it could have been some unknown creature we haven't discovered yet?" The girl said.

For some reason when Carrie heard those two words "unknown creature", her mind went back to the dream she had two nights ago. The dream about the creature attacking Chamberlain Maine and destroying it all entirely, killing everyone. This caused her eyes to widen in shock and shake with slight fear. It couldn't be possible, right? It had be a coincidence, right? There is no way the creature she saw in her dream is somehow connected to the missing ships and submarine. Right!? The creature is not real! He doesn't exist! Its all just in her head!

But, what if it wasn't…..?

She didn't know what to believe and felt like she was about to lose her mind.

In her English class

Carrie was in her English class. Yesterday Mr Ullman asked the entire class to write their favorite poem so they can share it with the class the next day. Today is that day. She of course brought one since she is really good at poetic stuff and loved to read it as well. She somewhat learned from her Momma since she would most of the time teach her things from the Bible.

But that was not what Carrie was thinking right now, she was thinking about what those three teens said in the library and in that moment remembering about the dream. She doesn't seem to stop thinking the dream now, no matter how hard she tells herself to forget about it. The more she thought about it, the more she started to think that maybe this wasn't just some dream, but possibly….. a warning. And that maybe…. IT was responsible for the missing ships and the nuclear submarine.

But would anyone believe her if she told someone? 'Oh that a creature from my dream I had like two nights ago may be responsible for the missing ships and nuclear submarine.' She definitely would sound insane and maybe would be laughed at. 'Who would believe me 'Creepy Carrie''? Carrie thought bitterly.

Is it possible that a creature like that exist? Does he really exist? What is his origin story if he is? Where did he come from?

Bur the question that terrorizes Carrie was this one:

Is he really coming to Chamberlain Maine to destroy it all?

If what she saw was….. true, Carrie honestly didn't know what she could do. I mean what can she really do?! How can she stop this? What can she do to stop this? She's just a human. She's just a girl, a lonely, outcast girl with no friends. While this unknown creature looked to be like 50.1 meters tall.

Carrie looks out her window of her classroom. She looks at the flagpole were the US flag is at.

She concentrates and looks at it intensely. She causes the flag to start moving in the air.

While thinking about the dream, she was also thinking the powers she just discovered she had. She felt so happy for the first time ever in her life seeing she could move things with her mind. It felt amazing. She questions on how long she may have had these powers for. She guesses she has had them since she was born. Her powers seem to have been dormant throughout her entire childhood since… she wasn't strong enough yet. But now they seem to be awakening. Ever since her period incident it seems she had been moving things without her knowing. She learned a lot in the library about her powers. The name which was Telekinesis. That it's the ability to move objects at a distance by mental powers. That you could carry a huge amount of weight using this power. Etc.

Thats when a thought hits her, something….. she doesn't know if it may work.

'Could my powers be strong enough to stop this unknown creature?'

Before she could think about it any further, the teacher calls her.

"Uh, Carrie." Mr Ullman called her.

Carrie turns away from the window.

"Favorite poem? Did you bring one?" Mr Ullman asked.

Everyone slightly laughs at her.

Carrie feeling really nervous slowly nods and say "Yeah."

"Why don't you come to the front of the class and share it with us all?" Mr Ullman said.

Carrie slowly gets up and starts walking to the front of the class while avoiding eye contact with anyone the best she could. Some still laugh at her.

Mr Ullman looks back at Tina as he smiles and Tina bites on her pen.

When Carrie got to the front, she slowly opened her little book and started reading her poem:

"This unfrequented place to find some ease" Carrie said.

Someone laughs at her.

"Ease to the body some, none of the mind.

Times past…..

and what once I was and what am now.

O wherefore was my birth from heaven foretold.

Twice by an Angel, who at last in sight of both my parents all in flames…..

Ascended." Carrie finished her poem.

Everyone in stayed quiet, taking in everything they just heard Carrie say. Some of them thought this poem represents the current life she was living now. While others didn't care and wanted to laugh at her.

"Okay, uh, that was, uh….." Mr Ullman trailed off.

He was about to say the poem was really good. The best one he has heard so far. This would have caused a lot of the other students to agree with him. If it wasn't for the look Tina gave him.

"Disturbing." Mr Ullman said instead after looking at the look Tina was giving him. The people that actually liked the poem started now started laughing at Carrie after the teacher said that.

Tommy Ross hearing that made him angry since he really liked the poem Carrie read.

"That is the most you're said in class all year." Mr Ullman said.

Carrie now was keeping her head as she didn't feel comfortable standing in front of the class anymore.

"Is there anything else you'd like to share or are you done scaring us for the day." Mr Ullman asked Carrie.

"Asshole"

Everyone in the class gasped slightly and turned around to look at Tommy Ross.

"Excuse me Mr Ross. Did you say something?" Mr Ullman asked him.

"I said, "Awesome." Tommy Ross rephrased that.

Some of the students were surprised hearing that.

'I just thought what Carrie read was awesome." Tommy Ross said.

Carrie was a little take aback hearing that but felt a little relaxed hearing someone liked her poem.

"Didn't you Mr Ullman?" Tommy Ross asked him as Carrie started walking back to her seat.

Mr Ullman not expecting this and having nothing to say just continued the class.

"All right who's next? Uh….." Mr Ullman asked.

Carrie sat back down in her seat.

"Nicki."

"I mean Lizzy." Mr Ullman corrected himself having no idea who one of the twins was which.

Carrie looked at Tommy Ross and although he wasn't looking she was slightly smiling at him. Throughout her entire high school years she's always had a crush on Tommy Ross and wished they could be together. Though the chances of that happening was really low she thought since they were two completely different people.

Sue turned to her left and saw this and an idea suddenly formed in her head. A way to redeem herself after what she did yesterday in the lockers room.

No Godzilla action in this chapter unfortunately but people are gonna start finding out what happened in the Atlantic Ocean and Carrie seems to now start thinking what happened to her wasn't just a dream…..

How will this affect Carrie mentally? You guys will find out soon.

I may upload the next chapter on Christmas Day, but if I don't then I guess you guys will have to wait a little longer. Anyways Happy Holidays and Merry early Christmas everyone!
