Tobias hadn't expected to live after the ramming of the ship into the being that had taken over Ax, so why is he waking in a new world... and why are there feathers growing from his back!?
Brown, speckled with flecks of gold, eyes blinked as the owner of them turned and twisted their head to examine the area that they had found themselves in.
Tobias didn't know what had happened, the last thing he remembered was being on the ship when Jake had ordered for them to ram into The One, something that was a cosmic entity that had taken over his friend/uncle's body. There had been a flash of light and then the boy-who-was-a-hawk had found himself standing on a cluttered beach that was filled with nothing but trash.
"This is fucking weird..." he muttered to himself, before he suddenly felt something brushing over his bare-naked back as he was dressed in nothing but the black spandex-bike shorts for his human morph. Twisting his head, the twenty-year old that appeared to be nothing more than thirteen couldn't hold back the squawk of shock that was emitted from his mouth as his eyes took in the sight that was behind him.
Wings fluttered behind him, reddish-brown colored feathers decorated the appendages to a span of 14 feet out on both sides. Tobias couldn't believe that he was staring at these as they flapped in tandem with his mental commands; the Animorph decided to try to retract them as he could possibly stuck in a partial morph but found that it wasn't working and was about to start freaking out when he heard a voice speak from behind him.
"Greetings, young Animorph..." Spinning around, feet digging in the sand as if he was going to lunge at the voice; Tobias paused as he took in the sight of a being that he was all too familiar with. There floating just a few inches from the sand was an elderly man with glowing blue skin, akin to that look as if he was a great and powerful wizard, with a flowing long beard and hair as he wore a robe of the finest material.
"... Ellimist..." Those eyes, burning with flecks of gold, narrowed as he shifted from his worried semi-look into the fierce gaze that he typically wore due to the time spent as a hawk. "What'd you do to me?"
"I must confess that when I returned you the power to join your allies in your war, I never imagined that you would be cable of ensuring the defeat of The One.." The being's voice was filled with a sense of astonishment, those eyes of his staring at Tobias as if looking into his soul.
"Great, nice to know that we could still surprise even you." The solider of the Yeerk War spat out, before folding his arms across his bare chest as those wings of his fluttered heavier in an agitated state. "But that doesn't explain what you did to me."
For a second, Tobias was sure that the being was just going to give him some mystical excuse and fade away into the breeze... but he was shocked when the Ellimist instead allowed himself to touch on the sand and sat down on what looked to be like a busted up deep freezer. "I saved you from the aftermath of ramming the ship."
"Why me? Why not Jake or even Marco?" The question flowed from his lips in a demanding tone, sharp eyes took in the look of shame that flashed across the being's face at the names of his former leader and comrade. "They were already dead, weren't they?"
"That is correct." The Ellimist spoke, a hint of regret in his tone, staring at the young mortal in front of him. "They had died instantly upon the collision but you, young Tobias, had survived though you were dying slowly so I had to act quickly. I took you from the wreck and brought you to this place, healing you.. though it appears that you were affected by this world's unique dynamics."
Tobias stared as his brain processed that he was truly the last of the Animorph's to be alive, the thought filled him with a sense of sorrow and rage at the world that he had felt when Rachel had died. Pushing down his anger, the brown haired boy tilted his head to the side almost hawk-like as the words of the being registered fully inside of his brain. "This world? What do you mean by that?"
"This world is untouched by either me or The Crayak, I do not know why but we are unable to affect this place." The Ellimist told him. "I believe that by bringing you to this world, it affected your genetic code by granting you access to partials of your many morphs. Though I do not know which ones or if it would be all of them."
"Wings are obviously a part of it." The adult-trapped as a teenager deadpanned to the being before he took a small breath of air, trying to see if he got any smell from his list of morphs but found it just the plain normal amount of a human; though as he relaxed, Tobias could hear the faint sounds of people talking and cars honking from a further distance away. "Smell is nothing special but hearing is definitely enhanced."
Turning his head to look at the Ellimist, Tobias blinked at the findings that the mystical being was gone and let a small scoff. "Yeah, that figures that you'd already be gone." the wing-bearing boy ran a hand through his hair before picking a random direction in the beach of trash to start walking off in.
