"So, Princess, what's the emergency?" Cat asked, as Marinette let him in. "Well, I don't know if its a emergency," Marinette said, shuffling her feet. "But I do need help making a decorating the gingerbread house. Otherwise, Adrien will never get his present in time."
Cat gulped. "D-Did you say gingerbread?" Cat loved gingerbread. He wasn't sure why he loved so much, but he could clearly see himself helping his mother with them when he was younger. "Yes, gingerbread!" Marinette said, snapping back to the present. "I know you love sweets, Kitty, but its for another boy!" That's what you think, Cat grinned. Anyway, he was happy to help.
Making gingerbread seems to be the easy part, but Cat was nervous about decorating. "Here, you just make little squiggles like this," Marinette took the icing bag and begin to pipe. Cat watched like a cat follows a laser pointer, poking his paw into the frosting to sneak a taste. "Cat!" "What?" "No swiping at the frosting!" "Sorry." but his tail swished, plotting. If he dared sneak another taste, he'd have to be quick about it. "Here, like this," Marinette handed him the bag. "Up, down. Up, down. Keep moving in a line. Got it?" Cat gulped, gave a soft meow and begin.
Poking his tongue out, Cat concentrated hard. Huh, that looked kinda pretty like snow hanging off the size of the roof. "That's it," Marinette reached out a hand to steady him, "Nice and straight…."
Of course, it had to be in that moment when Cat looked up and saw that Marinette had her hair tied in cute little bunches with little red bows on the ends. And didn't she look adorable in her red Christmas sweater? Oh, cheese and crackers, he wanted to bat one of those strings…..
But he'd didn't. "Great! Now, here's some candy to decorate the walls and windows."
For the next hour, Marinette and Cat worked on either side of the house, vowing not to peek until both were finished.
"Wow, your side is pretty, Cat!" Marinette gasped, when they finished. Cat had put in a gum drop walkway, while M and M's made a festive wreath above the door. "I just made a string of lights," Marinette said. "But I used more the icing. Now, for the finishing touch…."
She walked over to the counter, bringing back a plate with two tiny cookies. "Hey, its me!" Cat said, picking up "his" cookie. "Ahem, paws off!"
Okay, he'd admire himself from afar. And didn't Bugaboo look adorable?
Marinette wrapped the box carefully, and surprised Cat with a hug. "Thanks so much, Cat. I had a great time. I know Adrien will really enjoy it."
"It was a sweet time, wasn't it?" Cat grinned, and Marinette groaned.
Back at home, Adrien was surprised to see his present had already been delivered, though he had stopped at cheese store.
Little by little, Adrien nibbled away at his gift until only crumbs remained. But the memories of making a gingerbread house with his Princess would never go away.
