A/N: So I already posted this on A03 and Tumblr, so thought I'll post it on here as well. This little drabble and ficlet was inspired by a dream that I had of both Eivor and Oswald where he asked her this question and she answered. Hope you Enjoy!
"Would you die for the people you love?" Oswald blurted out the question that was on his mind without thinking before he could stop himself
"In a heartbeat yes. For the people I love I would do anything. Even without thinking. I would die for them. What about you?" Eivor answered quickly and to the point without hesitation
He gulped as the answer hit him at full force. He didn't expect such a blunt and direct answer. And it scared him. It did.
She didn't notice too deep in thought her back turned away from him staring at the lake in front of them. Oswald's thoughts whirred around as he debated whether to tell her or not as he looked at the swampy green in front of him instead...
He opted to choose the half truth instead.
"For East Anglia yes. I would die defending them"
"And maybe..." He stuttered as he felt her eyes on him strongly once more making him melt on the inside
"And maybe for the woman I love too" He babbled out quickly afterwards, hoping she wouldn't catch on to it...
He quickly looked away from her, avoiding her eyes and focusing on the greenery instead. As his heart pounded quickly, adrealine and excitement filling his veins at what he just did.
I mean her of course, did I really just say that out loud? That I possibly love her and would die for her... I hope she doesn't notice...
Thankfully to him, Eivor didn't seem to notice after the initial suprise on her face she remained nonchalant instead giving a nod seemingly in approval.
"Let's get you out of here" Was What was said in response instead
"I think that's a good idea" He agreed, more than relieved to get out of there.
Still he couldn't help but worry about what she thought as he walked away following close behind...
A/N: I feel like this is in character for both of them. I found a GIF the other day where Eivor told Hytham that she would die for the people she loves instantly and the people who love her without hesitation, but playing through the East Anglia arc, I highly doubt Oswald would. Even in canon, it's always Eivor who offers to fight Rued for him numerous times throughout the game. Not once did he voluntarily offer to take Rued on like she does. He only did so because Rued challenged him. Had Rued not challenged him, I don't think he would of bothered. Not even for Valdis.
The reason he fought Rued in the wedding (if you spared him and let him fight) wasn't because of Valdis, it was because Rued challenged him. If it was Eivor it wouldn't be about the challenge, it would be about protecting the people she loves, even friends such as Hytham. Oswald? Nah. It seems like my brain likes to change things up in a AU and make him die for the people he loves when he would never lol.
