It was the next morning Robert woke up getting off the bed. He saw his dad on the kitchen table drinking some coffee while reading the paper. Robert walked to the kitchen telling his dad good morning in a tired voice.
"Morning to you Junior. Hey guess what, Canada made a new territory. Apparently for the eskimos up there. Called the n-n-n-noon-i-voot something like that."
"Okay dad."
After that Mary walked in wearing a robe. She hugged Robert and gave her husband a kiss before walking over to the small white stove with some black smudged near the burners.
"Bobby, I'm making some pancakes for us today. Grab me some milk would you."
"Okay mom."
Robert opened the fridge door feeling the cold air hit him. He scoured through the fridge before closing it. He then grabbed his sweatshirt and switched from his PJ's to sweats. As he walked over to grab his shoes his dad asked him a question.
"Junior, what are you doing?"
"There's no milk so I'm getting some. The convenience store is still around the block right."
"Yep. here i got some money you could use"
"Don't worry I can pay."
As Robert got his shoes on his mom asked one more thing before he exited the apartment.
"Bobby sweetie can you also grab some eggs. We don't have enough for a full batch."
"Sure will mom"
Robert exited the apartment and walked to the outside of the Queen borough. Seeing cars fly by as they rushed to work all over the city. Robert breathed in the spring air filled with the after smell of car exhaust. He turned and walked down the sidewalk across the sidewalks with old gum and trash dotted around along with chalk drawings that children made.
Walking down the old street he grew up on gave him nice memories of growing up here and playing with his friends and exploring the city. He always loved those old memories of him and his folks. As he turned the corner around the apartment building. The shaking began.
Robert felt the sidewalk beneath him rumble and shake. He tried to stay on balance but could and fell on his hands and knees onto the concrete floor. He looked around as the shaking became more and more violent. Other people also around the street fall down and cars swerve in the highway, losing directions.
He could hear the building next to him creek and crack. New York aint built for earthquakes. He could see little drops of brick come off the old buildings. The hakes got more and more violent as if someone was shaking the world up and down. Cars swerve out of control as a taxi cab collides with a fire hydrant across the street followed by a ford pick up truck slamming into the back of the cab.
Then it stopped. The shaking stopped like the last two times he experienced it. Robert with caution stood back up, hands shaking from the experience. What had just happened. Brushing his hands on his sweatshirt another rumble is felt then out from the street the unthinkable happened.
A large appendage burst forth from the ground like how a shark comes forth from the water. The power from its expulsion from the ground knocked Robert and everyone around to the ground once more. Robert looked towards the appendaged that came out of the ground.
It had a texture and color similar to that of steel with it being shaped like a power drill. With it being at least 65 feet long. Robert could believe what he was seeing. Neither did any of the passerby knew what they were looking at but this one event of April 1st,1999 was a day that will live as the most life changing event in human history since the discovery of fire.
"What in the name of god is that?"
People around him had no answer as they looked upon the drill appendage in shock as some fled but others stood there like if god himself appeared. Some started, others took pictures with cameras and phones.
Then it moved, whatever it was it moved around back and forth before it swung backwards then surged forwards towards the ground. Robert quickly got on his feet and ran the fastest he ever did in his life and adrenaline surged through his system like caffeine.
Then the drill appendaged slammed down onto the ground destroying the building in its way causing a massive cloud of dust and debris. With a powerful shocked wave the blew Robert forward.
THUD
Robert smacked his head onto the paved sidewalks and blacked out instantly losing any and all consciousness for the time being.
"We got someone here!"
"Check his pulse"
"He's alive"
"Try and wake him up"
Those were the phrases Robert heard as his eyes fluttered open as a man in a blue Paramedic outfit flashed a light in his eyes while patting him on the cheek.
"Good you're awake Okay sir to make sure you are okay im gonna ask you some simple questions."
The man grabbed some gauze out from a little kit and padded Roberts' head. The gauze turned a dark red as the paramedic cleaned Roberts' wound.
"Okay sir what's your name"
"r-r-r-Robert"
"Alright how many fingers am i holding up"
"Uhhh three"
"Good don't worry we are going to get you patched up."
The paramedic helped Robert up on his feet. Through his dazed eyes he saw the aftermath of what happened. Emergency services were all around the scene helping people who got injured and searching the destroyed building for any survivors. The appendaged disappeared and all that we left of its visit was the giant hole it made and the destruction that it made.
The paramedic then sat Robert on the floor of an ambulance as he went to check on others. Robert only could think of what just happened. Police served the scene as they established a perimeter around the hole but didn' t have the equipment to really search so they helped out with the people around.
Robert looked to another man sitting in the ambulance who had dust all over his face and also had a head wound. The man was shaken up the same way as everyone around. Robert then saw another paramedic come with a woman on a stretcher with legs that were bent in a way that legs shouldn't be bent.
"Hey sir what happened?"
The paramedic turned to Robert before responding.
"Honestly sir. I don't got a fu-"
Before he could finish the ground rumbled again. The Paramedic quickly got the women on the stretching into an accompanying ambulance before also getting in and closing the door. Other Paramedic followed suit with the ambulance that Robert and some others were in.
They closed the door and a violent shaking and screams from the outside followed. Then the same noise that accompanied the appendage coming out from the ground was heard again. With the shaking exemplified with the ambulance rocking back and forth like a boat on the rapids.
THUD THUD SCREECH
Those 3 sounds were heard as the shaking stopped. The passengers from within the ambulance looked towards the door. The paramedic then opened the two doors carefully like handling fine china. And when he opened the door they saw something that made the drill appendage from early seem tame.
From the same spot the at drill appendaged came from was a creature like no other. It was the top half of some kinda monster-like rhinoceros beetle with its head,shoulders,and arms exposed to the air with it towering at 60 feet tall. its hands were the same drill appendages as last time. It had large yellow eyes,a horn that added at least 20 feet to its height,a large mouth covered in sharp gray teeth. With a thick carapace surrounding its body and an orange elytra on his back.
"What in the name of Jesus is that?"
Robert along with the paramedics and other civilians stared in shock at the enormous creature that was situated in the middle of the street. The monster bug head turned as it looked around the area I appeared in. letting out a low growl as it did. With the police holding up their weapons at the creature.
The cratured then locked its look to the cops as they held up shotguns,rifles,and pistols at the 60 feet of body that had emerged from the ground. The 20 or so cops stared down the creature as it did to them. Then it let out an ear piercing screech. This causes anyone within the area to cover their ears.
"Open fire"
One of the cops yelled as they then fired upon the bug monster but it was like they were throwing pebbles as the bullets bounced off the carapace of the creature. As the bullets fired the creature lifted up its drill arm and slammed down onto the police and the cars. Crushing and killing everyone in its way.
Robert could only watch as the cops mercilessly killed the cop. The paramedic quickly closed the door and the ambulances and other cars quickly burned rubber and got as fast as they could out of there. Robert was shocked by the whole event; he didn't even think about what else could have happened.
As he sat in the back of the ambulance with 5 other people he realized something. His parents were still in the apartment. Realizing this he collapsed his hands together and prayed to god that his parents will make it out safe.
The creature after destroying all the cops that were firing on it. The beatle monster lifted itself up from the ground standing on its two toed legs. The creatures stood at his full height of 180 feet tall and at the same time towered over buildings around it while also being dwarfed by other buildings in the area.
The creature let out another thunderous roar as it swung its drill like hands destroying buildings along the street. Stomping around crushing the pavement of the street and flattering any cars that stood below. Men and women fled as the monster continued its way down the streets of New York smashing buildings every which way. As the creature thunder down the Queens Borough destroying buildings and other structures in its rampage. Letting out high pitch screeches as it continued down the borough.
During the creature's rampage news of the attack spread through not just the city but the country as news crews in helicopters reported on the creature and the military scrambled to respond to the monstrous threat.
By the time the military managed to get a force to stop the creature a line of destruction was left in queens and it made its way to the manhattan borough. Where a line of tanks and armored cars littered the streets. As mini-earth quakes erupted every time the monster took a step.
The tanks and soldiers readied their weaponry as the monster turned the corner. Entering the site lines of the soldiers it let out another screech which was followed by a hail of tank shells and missiles fired upon the monsters. Helicopters flew by strafing the monster with missiles and bullets. But the monster was unfazed and let out another screech as its horned glowed a bright yellow with electricity sparking with it.
Then with the power of 100x that of a lightning bolt shot from its horn. The tanks below were hit by the beam and melted instantly and any soldier within or outside the beam didn't fare any better.
Helicopter continued to strafed the monster but it swung its arm and managed to knock them from the skies with some blowing up on impact. The monster was unopposed and continued its rampage across New York with any attempt by the military being fruitless.
The army was nearly running out of ideas. But with one last ditch idea they could think up could work.
The military quickly predicted where the monster would end up next. And placed explosives around a couple of buildings planning to possibly crush the monster along with calling up a battleship for backup in case things go south.
As the beetle monster walked down the streets of Manhattan swinging and destroying anything in its path it walked right into the military's trap. As the monster walked close and closer the military continued to walk towards the trap and when he did.
BOOM
Explosions erupted through the building causing them to lose their supports and fall upon the monster. It let out a loud screech as it was buried under two skyscrapers. When the dust settled it seemed like everything was over.
The soldiers rejoiced as they believed the battle was won. Even taking a iwo-jima style flag picture on the pile of debris that buried the monster. But as the slider celebrated the ground shook once more and from the depths of the earth the monster exploded out from the street under the soldiers.
The beetle monster spread its wings as it flew over the rooftops of the buildings. Letting out is yellow beam blowing up building after building from the empire state building to the chrysler building and the world trade center. Manhattan was turned into a wasteland as buildings and peoples ceased to exist.
The monster flew over before landing on Liberty island. Destroying the Statue of liberty. With the 114 year old statue that came to represent America itself. The Monster let out another thunderous screech but before it could celebrate its path of destruction the destroyer that the army called arrived. It let out all of its weaponry onto the monster. Unloading every single one of its surface-to-air missiles along with its 127mm cannons.
As hundreds of shells and missiles collided with the monster and with the constant barrage of weaponry cracked its carapace.
The monster carapace cracked open with its soft flesh being exposed along with missiles hitting the creature's eyes with one of them exploding like a sledgehammer to a pumpkin. The monster screeched in pain as it was forced back by the missiles and cannon the monster fell into the water of the Hudson river. It didn't resurface.
