"Quinn, she may be my one true love!" Charlie insisted, flashing a smile at Rachel, who looked like she was close to fainting.
Quinn rolled her eyes, and pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling a headache coming on. "Charlie. You just met her. I know she's pretty, but again you just met her." Quinn turns her gaze to Rachel and sighs, "I'm sorry. Charlie is—well, she's a bit excitable, and she should know better."
Rachel opened her mouth to say something, but she wasn't quite sure what to make of either of the twins. She should never have gotten involved in the first place. She had incorrectly assumed that they were just like her, but clearly they weren't and once they figured out that they now stood atop of the pyramid, she doubted that they would want to spend time with her. "I—"
Before Rachel can manage to get out another syllable, there's a sharp uptick in the temperature in the room, and the sound of yelping as people begin to evacuate the cafeteria. They don't get very far before there is a fiery explosion, followed by a loud bang as a wave of fire and heat rips through the cafeteria.
The sudden explosion causes both twins to turn back to where Santana was. They had both incorrectly assumed that it was over. They were wrong. She was Santana Fucking Lopez, and there was no way in hell that she was going to let that humiliation slide. She didn't give a fuck if they were level fives, she was the HBIC. She was the EST of McKinley. She was the strongest, she was the fastest, she was the most dangerous AI at McKinley, and for the first time she was finally going to let loose.
"She's still standing," Charlie observed flatly.
"I think she wants to fight us," Quinn mused studying Santana. She turns to look at Charlie who was rolling her shoulder, and frowns. She wasn't quite sure why Charlie thought she was going to handle it. "Rock-paper-scissors?"
"No, I'll handle it. I'm trying to impress my new girlfriend. Besides, someone needs to stop me from bringing the school down to make a point." Charlie said as she stretched out her upper back. "Keep my girlfriend safe Quinn."
There was no waiting for Charlie to get ready, there was no discussion of the rules, as Santana launched herself at the smurf. Her body igniting as she moves, using her flames to recreate a jet forming at her feet. She expects for her sneak attack, only for a lunch table to slam into her, knocking her off course and cause her to crash into another lunch table. She bounces off the top of the table and manages to orientate herself in mid air, as she uses her fire jets to land on her feet. "Level five my ass. Is that all you can do? Toss a few tables around?" She dodges Charlie's attempts to wrap the metal legs of the table around her and fires off multiple fireballs at Charlie, who dodges them or swats them aside.
There was no witty banter from Charlie as she looked down at the ground. Copper was not a magnetic substance naturally, but everything was magnetic when exposed to a strong enough magnetic field. And she definitely had the power to generate a strong magnetic field. She tilts her head to the side as a fireball goes whizzing past her ear and focuses. It doesn't take long and there is a loud crack as the floor suddenly splits open and copper pipes are suddenly pulled apart, causing water to spray everywhere. Charlie moves her arms forcing the copper to direct the water at Santana, who attempts to dodge it but more and more cracks appear as more copper pipes are ripped out of the ground and the walls and torn asunder causing more jets of water.
There is screaming as students get drenched, but Charlie ignores them as she finally manages to pin Santana down, and she grins pleased with her actions. "Chill out!"
"Charlie!" Quinn groaned, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment as Charlie shouted out another dorky line out. "Stop it. People will think we're not cool." She turns to look at Rachel. "I apologize for her, she was dropped on the head several times as a child." She extends her hand, "Quinn Fabray."
Rachel swallowed, they seemed nice, despite the chaos and wanton destruction that they had caused. She certainly didn't want to offend them, they had saved her from a slushie bath. Though perhaps the slushie would have been better than getting sprayed with water, from a questionable water source. "Rachel—I'm Rachel Berry. I'm a sophomore—vegan and I sign my name with a gold star. It's a metaphor—and metaphors are important."
Quinn smiles for a moment before she turns when steam begins to fill the room, causing the temperature to rise once again. Santana's solution to being drenched was to simply turn on the heat, causing the water to evaporate as it grew closer. The situation would only get worse and someone was bound to get seriously injured if this fight didn't end quickly. "Charlie. You're dangerously close to breaking your promise to mom," Quinn reminded Charlie.
Charlie's lip twisted into a scowl as she looked at Santana. Quinn was right, she generally was about these things. And it wasn't as if she couldn't have ended this fight earlier, but she was trying to do it without accidentally killing Santana. A stun gun was roughly 800,000 volts of electricity, and that was for normal people. Two million volts should be more than enough to take out Santana, especially with all the water everywhere. Though given the chaotic situation she didn't want to lose control and hurt half of the student body. "Is that all you've got?" She goads Santana, who turns to look at her.
Santana lets out a frustrated growl as she finally manages to free herself from the strong spray of water that had kept her pinned down. Her eyes were wild with anger as she focuses on Charlie, who takes a very lazy lackadaisical boxer stance. Her eyes narrow at the stance, Charlie wasn't taking this seriously. She wasn't taking her seriously, causing her rage to bubble over as she launches herself toward Charlie once again, her body twisting and moving to avoid the water, as she lashes out with her foot to kick Charlie in the face. When Charlie dodges the roundhouse, she immediately follows her kick up with a punch.
But Charlie was ready, and caught Santana's fist in the palm of her hand and smiled when she noticed the shock on Santana's face. She quickly adjusts her grip, grabbing onto Santana's wrist before she can escape, and ignoring the sharp rise in the temperature of Santana's flames as her hand sparks with electricity. Instead she directs two million volts into Santana, watching as her muscles begin to seize and she screams. The sudden voltage is enough to disrupt her abilities, and she returns to her non-flame form as her eyes roll to the back of her head, and she passes out. However her body doesn't go limp until Charlie lets go of her wrist, and catches her before she can face plant onto the broken floor.
With a bit of effort Charlie carries her to a table and dumps her on it, before turning her attention back to the mess of the cafeteria. She stretches out her hand and concentrates as she puts the copper pipes back and recouples them so that there isn't a leak. When she's finished she looks past Quinn at Rachel who still looked like she was still scared. "It's okay. I'm fine," Charlie informed her new girlfriend. "So about that—"
"Rachel's vegan," Quinn interrupts. "She doesn't eat meat or dairy and animal byproducts. Which means if you want to be a good girlfriend, you should probably stop eating meat and dairy products."
Charlie blinked twice and looked at Rachel for a moment, before taking her hand and patting it gently. "We're going to have to break up Rachel. I understand that this might be devastating to you, but I assure you that we will remain close friends. Perhaps even friends with—"
Quinn swatted her twin upside her head, "Enough of that. When is the pizza guy going to get here?"
Charlie frowned and reached for her phone, "I forgot to order the pizza!"
Quinn rolled her eyes at her twin, "See, harmless."
Charlie turned to her ex-girlfriend, "They have a vegan pizza, would you like one. I did finish your lunch?"
Rachel hesitated, this was not how she had expected any of this to go, but after a moment she nodded her head. "I would like that, thank you Charlie."
Charlie nodded as she focused on the app in front of her. "Look at that Quinn, we made a friend on our first day. Mom will be happy, we're nailing this regular teenager thing."
Quinn raised a brow and turns to look at the cafeteria, most of the student body had already evacuated, and she couldn't blame them. There was water everywhere mixed with food and drinks, the floor looked like an excavator had begun to work, and most of the lunch tables were bent, some of the wood charred. "Well—"
It was at that moment that the teachers at McKinley finally decided to make their presence known as they burst through the cafeteria doors. "What the bloody hell is going on here?"
Rachel turned to look at the twins, Charlie was still on her phone as if she hadn't heard them, and Quinn just looked unimpressed. "Coach Sylvester, Principal Figgins—"
"I got into a fight with Santana, who was attempting to bully me." Charlie interrupts as she finally looks up from her phone and flashes Principal Figgins a proud smirk. "I won." Charlie looks around to see her handiwork and then smiles. "And I didn't destroy the entire school! Just the cafeteria—but given the food you serve here, I feel like I did you a favor. Really this is progress for me—"
Principal Figgins turned to where Santana was groaning as she sat up, "Charlotte Fabray, Santana Lopez my office now!" With that he turned around and marched away.
Quinn sighs and looks at Charlie, "He's probably going to call mom. She's probably going to be upset," Quinn pointed out.
"I promise to tell your mother that you were defending me," Rachel promised immediately. "Santana's been bullying me for years. Something Figgins is aware of, and my fathers have the ACLU on speed dial."
"Thank you Rachel," Quinn said as she watched both Charlie and Santana follow after the teachers and she turns to look at Rachel. "I don't think my mom will be that annoyed. This really is progress in Charlie's case," Quinn muses. "Baby steps," She said with a shake of her head before turning to look at Rachel again. "Thank you. For sticking your neck out for us, and for putting up with my sister's—eccentricities."
Rachel bit her lip, before sighing. "I know what it's like to get bullied by Santana, and to get slushie thrown on you. It's the worst, and the cold gets everywhere. I thought you two were like me level twos, but once you get your official classification—McKinley will be your playground, the level fours will do anything you say after that little display, even Santana will be forced to do what you say."
"That sounds awful. Why would I want to be friends with people like that? I'd rather find someone who will stick by me through thick and thin."
"Like your sister?" Rachel asks.
"Which—oh you're talking about Charlie. She's my twin, we've got a connection. Which means, I'm more willing to put up with Charlie throwing me under a bus when mom makes an odd number of bacon wrapped cherries," Quinn said with a laugh.
"She'd betray you over food?"
Quinn smiled at Rachel and shrugs. "She 'broke up' with you because you were a vegan. She asked you to be her girlfriend because you gave her some cookies and half a sandwich. To answer your question, yes Charlie would betray me over food. Never over something important, but certainly over bacon wrapped cherries."
"I can see it," Rachel said with a small laugh of her own. "You're lucky, I'm an only child. I would love to have a twin."
"It certainly has its advantages. Also it's disadvantages," Quinn pointed to her clothes. "We did this because our mom wanted to take pictures of our first day at a new school. We don't normally dress in matching clothing, because we do actually like people being able to tell us apart."
"The pink and blue hair doesn't help?"
Quinn immediately touched her pink locks, "It's faded red," when Rachel looks at it again, and then back at her with a smile on her face, all Quinn can do is scowl. "It was supposed to be faded red."
~ O ~
Judy Fabray wasn't surprised that she had gotten a call from McKinley, what was shocking was that it had taken them this long to call her. Then again if there was going to be an incident it was going to be at lunch time. She sighs, as she heads towards the principal's office, where she spots Charlie sitting on a bench fiddling with her phone. "Charlotte."
Charlie flinches at her mother's tone, but flashes her mother a smile. "I kept my promise, the school is still standing! And I didn't do anything wrong. I was protecting my girlfriend!" Charlie insisted.
Judy raised a brow as she stared at her youngest daughter, and out of her four children she worried about Charlie the most. She had needed to invest in one of those leashes for children for Charlie, to make sure that she didn't get into the van of some stranger. It probably would have ended up poorly for the stranger, but as a mother you worry. "Charlie, we've talked about this. You can't just start dating someone because they feed you."
"Don't worry I broke up with her, she's a vegan," Charlie said making a face. "I mean the food wasn't that great, but it was certainly better than the slop that they serve in the cafeteria. I couldn't eat it, and I'll eat anything."
Judy stared at her daughter, before rubbing her temples. Her parents had said that moving back to Ohio would be good for the twins, but she was beginning to suspect that her parents only wanted to spoil their grandchildren rotten. She's about to say something when the door to Figgin's office opens, a young woman practically marches out and shoots a glare at Charlie who waves at her. Charlie's wave is responded to with the young woman flipping her off.
"Santana!" Dr. Miguel Lopez snapped at his daughter. "We warned you that this would happen that you'd meet someone that you couldn't just push around!"
"She's the one that destroyed the cafeteria, I have no idea why I have to help fix it," Santana pointed at Charlie.
"You were the one who was threatening to dump a slushie on me, and then my girlfriend. If anything this is your fault," Charlie commented as she looked up from her phone.
It's the wrong thing to say as Santana wheels around to glare at Charlie, the temperature in the room rapidly climbing.
The sudden spike in temperature is enough to get Charlie to sigh and look up from her phone. "If you want to fight we can fight. You will lose. I know your ranking states that you're a level four, and perhaps at McKinley and in Ohio, that ranking is warranted, but at my old school you would be considered just a level four, if they didn't decide that you were just a high level three. Basically if you attack me again, I will put you in the hospital."
Judy winced and immediately stepped in front of her daughter and looked at Santana's father, "I'm terribly sorry about what happened today." Hopefully he could be reasoned with. "We just moved from LA, and it's a new year and I'm afraid there may be some growing pains. I promise you that it will not happen again."
Miguel frowned, and grabbed Santana's shoulder and pulled her back, giving her a swift smack upside her head. It's enough to get the temperature to stop rising as he shoots an apologetic look at Judy, who looked rather frazzled. "No, I'm afraid my daughter is to blame for this incident, and we'll be paying for the damages. We've warned her a million times that one day she'd meet someone who was a higher level, and she wouldn't enjoy being the victim. I do believe your daughter when she states that she was just defending herself, just like I believe that it would end poorly for my daughter if they were to fight again."
"You're supposed to be on my side!" Santana exploded.
Before Judy could respond, Figgins walked out of his office looking positively irate. "There are no sides in this. I don't care who started it, I don't care who finished it. You both are guilty of destroying school property, once we access the damage and get an estimate from our insurance, we will send you a bill. The deductible. And you two will spend the next month in detention, helping to fix up the cafeteria."
"Are you fucking—"
"Santana," Miguel barked, narrowing his eyes. It seems to cow his daughter for now. "We'll take care of the deductible—"
"We'll split it. I understand that your daughter may have started it, but I know for a fact that my daughter could have ended it without tearing up the cafeteria, she was making a statement, and I'm sorry it was at the expense of your daughter." Judy turned to look at Charlie. "Apologize."
"For?" Charlie asked, she frowned when her mother shot her an annoyed look and she turned to look at Figgins. "I'm sorry I wrecked the cafeteria. I won't do it again, even when you serve that brown slop that you are attempting to call food."
"Excuse me," Figgins frowned.
Judy pinched the bridge of her nose, "Charlie."
"What! I took a picture of what they were serving, and I was going to show gramps. The budget for a school like McKinley is massive, and while I don't mind cleaning up, it's stupid that we're paying a deductible. I'd rather just go live with Dad and go back to our old school. Every penny of the budget is invested into the school and paying the teachers decent salaries, and you could eat as much as you wanted at lunch," Charlie muttered. "It was good food too!"
Judy frowned, there was a reason that she had moved her family all the way to Lima Ohio, and it wasn't just to live with her parents while she figured out the next step in her life. "If you want to go and live with your dad back in LA that was always your choice Charlie. But do remember that the most your father can do is barbecue, and I doubt the woman he's currently seeing is a decent cook," she reminded her daughter.
Charlie wrinkled her nose, "I don't actually want to live with dad, mom. I just miss our old school, where they actually cared about bullying, and they actually cared about feeding healthy food, and they invested in our education. There never would have been a fight, because the teachers were actually supervising us instead of doing god knows what, and only stepping in after the fight is over."
Judy paused every now and again Charlie made a valid point, "Where were the teachers when this incident was taking place?"
"There are never any teachers around," Santana throws in, realizing that this was her chance to get less of a punishment. "The so-called bullying only happens because the teachers don't do anything. Jacob Ben Israel puts a camera in the girl's locker room. Nothing happens, even after we complain. So we dump slushie on him, and he stops for a while. But then he does it again and so the cycle continues."
Miguel frowned and turned to look at Figgins who seemed to be sweating, "Is this true?"
"We're looking into it," Figgins promises immediately, glancing over at Judy who looked just as shocked at the revelation. "I'll rethink making you pay the deductible and just move some money around, however if this happens again. I will be forced to expel them."
Judy didn't bother to point out what a dumb decision that would be. Instead she turns to look at Miguel, "Perhaps we should exchange numbers," she offers.
Miguel nodded, "Yes, if you have any complaints about my daughter, then please don't hesitate to call or text."
"And the same goes too you," Judy said. "If you have any problems then please let me know."
