"Did you steal all of these presents for me, or did you buy them?" Holly asked him with a smile while she gaped at the small pile of presents. It was Christmas Day and the Potter children were in their new foster home. It was the first time they'd ever been there, but since Holly was getting older, Harry wanted to give his little sister a better life. And besides it had been years since they'd been at the Dursleys.
Holly was currently dressed in a fresh, new - stolen - Christmas-themed jumper, and likewise Harry was dressed the same. Both of them were very warm and cosy for them.
"No, actually a few of the other kids outside the foster home stole them for you, a few of our old friends, actually but I bought the rest," Harry replied with an equal smile on his face. "Others came from the foster home."
"That was nice of them," Holly carefully unwrapped her presents. She squealed when she found herself looking at a cuddly little toy. She hugged it hard and then leapt on Harry.
Harry choked, but he was smiling as he held his little sister. "You're welcome, Holly, but you have other presents to open."
"Oh yeah!" Holly got to work.
Christmas was one of those times of the year when the Potter children tried to be as frugal as they could with their presents since they could move at any point. As a result, they always tried to keep them as small as possible. But things had changed. They couldn't have lived on the streets forever but he had been frightened that Holly would never live the life she deserved, but he had wanted her to know what kind of life would be there if she was not careful.
Harry smiled as he unwrapped one of Holly's gifts, and found a small and simple beaded bracelet.
"I made that for you. It's not much," Holly said apologetically.
Harry smiled back at her. "I love it, sis," he replied, knowing it was a holdover from the days when they'd lived on the streets, and every birthday and Christmas was celebrated with small, simple gifts.
Harry and Holly both received many presents. They no longer needed to worry about moving any time soon, so they could get whatever they wished within reason.
Harry received a train set, some clothes - a coat, a scarf, some shoes, and some books. Likewise, Holly had received a cuddly teddy bear, some clothes, and a few picture books. Holly was a very smart girl, and the staff and teachers encouraged the growth of her intellect, there was even talk about moving Harry up a year, although he had begged them not to since he didn't want any problems. He had seen how jealous kids could get, and he didn't want any problems with himself and Holly.
"You gonna play with the train set?" Holly asked him.
"Not right now," Harry replied as he placed the train set to the side, planning on setting it up later in his room. He looked at her presents and smiled at them, seeing the way she cuddled her bear. While he was a little worried in case one of the other kids would lash out at her whenever they used their powers, he and Holly were generally well-treated and moments like that were few and far between.
For the rest of the day, while the foster home staff alternated between supervising the kids for a bit, while they watched Christmas movies, Harry cuddled Holly as they watched them. They could smell the rich aromas of cooking and they quickly became hungry. When the Potter children sat and ate with everyone else, they laughed at the awful cracker jokes and had fun with their friends as they gradually became stuffed full of food.
Once dinner was over, the kids went back to watching movies before it was time for bed, but before they went to bed Holly helped Harry set up his new train set. As they sorted through the tracks and laid them out on the floor, Harry wondered what kind of games he and his sister could play with them while keeping the other kids away.
Later when they went to bed, Harry took the tired but excited Holly to bed, and tucked her in and made sure to do the same with her roommate. Sophie had never had a brother, so she became jealous of Harry and Holly's closeness. So Holly, being the lovely sweet girl she was, persuaded Harry to do the same for Sophie, and he did it reluctantly as he was not sure about doing the same thing for a different girl.
