After spending a few days taking care of business (they had to deal with the IIPD and then they had to begin designs for Izuku's hero outfit- Melissa's new quirk allowed for new experimental outfits, and Izuku secured his first support contract by offering to be a test subject for them), Izuku and Toshinori departed I-Island. Tsukasa was sent back through the Curtains. It must be noted that Melissa had also given Izuku her contact details and extracted a promise of weekly calls.
Since then, 5 months passed, and Izuku successfully managed to naturally become what he should've looked like at 14-15 years of age. He was still 5'11", but looks built for multiple sports- basketball, judo, taekwondo and so on. At this point, he doesn't grow as quickly, though that'll change as the year goes on.
Right now, he's standing in front of Toshi, who's buffed up. They're in front of Dagobah Beach, which was rather spick and span, given that Izuku just finished cleaning the dump that it used to be.
"Young man, I have had the honor of training you and sparring against you for a short eight months now. To think that this was one day going to happen… No matter what, at the very least, I believe that you define the concept of hard work more than anyone else. You, without doubt, have earned this. My power will now aid you in your endeavours." Toshi says, raising his hand up. Pulling a single hair and extending it, he then says
"NOW! EAT THIS!"
…
…
…
"OK, I'm assuming a willful transfer of DNA is required?" Izuku deadpanned. Toshi sheepishly nodded. "Right. Gimme your arm, and imagine that you're giving me OFA through that." Toshi, rather naïvely, showed him the arm, which Izuku… bit into, 'cause he be cray-cray like that. After a short pull of blood, he let go and healed the bite mark. "That should do it, I think."
… "I should've known that you had a vampiric trait hidden there somewhere…" Toshi simply responded, having brushed up on pop culture, mythology, folk tales and various other forms of fiction since meeting Izuku.
Anyway, they jogged around for a while, having taken to it as a binding exercise of sorts. Two hours later, Izuku stopped and closed his eyes, which prompted Toshinori to stop and stare at him in concern.
Inside his mind
Izuku, in his mind, opened his eyes to the sight of the Void. He took a deep breath, then walked forth. Which led him to the new section of his Mindscape that just appeared.
It was the Void, but a crumbling rock with a flat top was visible, on which was 8 thrones. The thrones held 7 fully corporeal soul shards and one flaming spirit. They were arguing quite a bit, too.
"What were you thinking, Eighth!?"
"This kid is dangerous! We don't know anything about him!"
"I think we should trust the Eighth…"
"You shut up, First! You're the naïvest of us!"
…
As the silver haired male in the central right throne slumped, Izuku had enough, and so cleared his throat.
"If you're all quite done arguing, I could settle any doubts you have." he said, sneering at the ones who didn't approve of Toshi's decision
All of the others (even the flaming spirit) turned to stare at him.
"Maybe we should… introduce ourselves?" Silverhead reasserted.
Back to reality
Izuku opened his eyes after a moment, and smiled. He then glowed with green lightning sparks- probably bioelectricity. Facing the sea, he took a standard punching stance, and then let loose. The result… should've never been in question.
A huge wake was formed when the punch's resulting airstrike dissipated. Also, no broken bones (Izuku does not do that here.). He did stretch his muscles a bit though. And then he smiled.
"Looks like I'm ready with OFA. Hand out again." Toshi hesitantly put his arm out again and Izuku transferred the copy to him as agreed. He felt it as a form of heat flowing through him. Unknown to Toshinori, the copy worked to become as strong as the original by assessing the user's limits, thus allowing Toshi to unleash his full power. That said, Mirio will NOT be doing the same when he gets the copy (also called OFA for now, but Toshi called it Passing Torch- in recognition of its power and the fact that it functions like OFA always did) in two months- right on the day of the UA entrance exam.
Two months later
Izuku woke up bright and early for the UA entrance exam. He wore the hated Aldera uniform- while he was better treated now due to having a relatively powerful quirk, he held nothing but contempt for Aldera- and toted his actual workout tracksuit in a duffel bag as he headed to UA for the exam.
Bakugo passed him, the silent treatment suiting Izuku just as well. The foot he placed to trip Izuku up was not as much appreciated… Though just as Izuku was regaining his balance, he felt a touch on his arm before he noted the loss of his Higgs field. Turning around, he saw a cheerful-looking brunette with a round face and chocolate eyes wearing a black coat.
"You OK there?" she asked before setting him on the ground and clapping her hands such that her fingertips meet each other.
"Sorry, but I used my quirk on you- I mean, it'd be bad luck to fall over right now, no?"
"Thanks for the save" Izuku expressed his gratitude. "Though I prefer to think that I make my own luck. I'm Izuku Midoriya. What's your name?" he asked politely, noting silently that she was cute. Also, he noted the need to talk to Melissa (who he's currently in a long-distance relationship with, having been confessed to 4 months earlier) about expanding the relationship- he was not the type to keep himself tied to one person. His experience was that that idea leads to a fucking war. (some of the other worlds he's ended up in… were destroyed simply because of a war over who got to date him. No further elaboration necessary.)
"I'm Ochaco Uraraka! I'm rather nervous for the exam! What about you?" She asked, opening her eyes and seeing Izuku, who just happened to be her type. Needless to say, she bookmarked him as someone to look out for.
"Excited, actually. But we don't wanna be late for the orientation, so good luck!" Saying so, he headed to the orientation auditorium.
In the auditorium, Izuku shoved Bakugo a bit away from him as he sat, and snuffed out the explosion that he put out in response, and paid attention to the Voice Hero: Present Mic, who was a member of faculty and the one in charge of the explanations for now.
After his intro, he riffed out an "Everybody say HEY!". Normally, the crowd would be tough, with silence, but Izuku was excited, as he'd told Ochaco. So, he decided to respond "HEY!" He was the only response
Mic commented in sotto voce that today had a decent listener, then he proceeded to explain the exam concept to them- urban field robot destruction. Izuku figured that there were points assigned for rescues as well, so he planned accordingly.
Four types of robots were shown in the handout sheets, but only three were explained- 1 pointers, 2 pointers and 3 pointers. Izuku noticed it and deduced (again) that that was a fucking test within a test (for appropriate response), but apparently others weren't as capable of seeing through ruses.
Case in point, the indigo-haired bespectacled student that stood up and loudly stated, after raising his hand and being asked to proceed, "You have only explained about 3 types of opponents, yet our handout sheets show 4 types. Should this be a misprint, it is something that UA should be ashamed of- OW!" The insult was a bit far, so Izuku wadded up some additional paper he had and slammed it into the back of his head, before asking "What's your name?" calmly.
"I am Tenya Iida, of Somei Middle Academy! And why did you hit me!?" Tenya repeated indignantly
"Because, Mr. Iida, unless I'm very much mistaken, the fourth type is supposed to be a hidden test, which you and I just managed to spoil" Izuku responded calmly, even if he let a bit of acid into his voice at the reveal of the hidden test. Tenya recoiled in horror at that, almost turning around to apologize to Present Mic… but then-
"Well, I was going to explain this later, but it would seem that Mr. Iida- Examinee No. 7111 managed to drag the topic out early. The fourth type is called the 0 pointer. This one you're better off not fighting but retreating safely from, as engaging this monster of a machine is basically pointless, especially since it appears in the last 2 minutes of the test." That got everyone's attention. Izuku kept in mind, but was ready to ace this test. He was fine with not being in the same field as Bakugo- no need to crush the fool just yet.
And so it is that Izuku ended up in the same bus as Ochaco and Tenya, heading toward Exam Field B. As he was preparing for the test with some light warmup, he noticed Ochaco being slightly nervous. So, he walked over to her. "Hey!" he poked her cheek from behind.
She let out a very girlish screech as she jumped, then turned around to slap the responsible party… except Izuku was not someone who she was going to slap. "Oh, sorry, Izuku-san!" she gasped out, hand over mouth
"No problem. Just relax a bit, no need to be that tense. It'll be fine, but you better start moving when the doors open." he smiled and told her. Tenya glared at him and was fit to rush off to prevent any sabotage, except he realized (wisely) that that action wasn't his duty to act on.
Just then, the duo noticed that the door was starting to open, so while Ochaco started running, Izuku zipped through everyone and got in through the narrowest gap of the still-opening gates possible. He missed the beration of Present Mic as the others were not really focused, though he didn't focus on that, taking to the air. He'd decided that today, he'd only use wind and lightning to pass this test. To this effect, he started by rushing towards the first robot, then using wind to slice it (showing his work by slicing his hand in the arc that the wind blade cut through the robot) before passing through the gap it made before it exploded. Moving on, he found two robots together, so he shot lightning at one of them, making it attack and destroy the other, before the residue of lightning blew it up. He again showed his work by pointing and firing lightning from his fingertip
He kept moving around in this fashion, using a wind barrier to block any attacks coming his way and relying on agility for this test. Eventually he took to the air to get a better feel for the layout of the field.
Meanwhile, the faculty, led by what appears to be an anthropomorphic Siberian stoat that somehow wound up living in Japan, were watching the proceedings through the cameras.
The stoat, known commonly as Nezu, Principal of UA Heroics High School was talking.
"In this practical exam, the students are not given much info on the number of villains/ robots, or their location. Vast area and limited time. They need to understand the situation- information gathering;" The screen enlarges the short clips of Izuku and a man with multiple arms in the shape of batwings "the ability to do more than usual humans need- mobility;" Here, Izuku's remains in place as the man's is switched out for Tenya "Calm understanding of their role- discernment;" Swap Tenya for a French-looking man with a belt around his waist "and of course, pure combat ability." The Frenchman's replaced with Bakugo "These abilities are converted to points."
"Isn't this crop rather promising?" a female member of faculty (probably Midnight) asks. "Nope, the true test is at the end… right about now!" Toshi's voice responds as he presses a Big Red Button. "What will they do in the presence of an overwhelming opponent?" he smirks as he says.
Meanwhile, 8 minutes have passed by Izuku's internal clock. He's been using his aerial position to strike the bots with lightning, and the wind to shield those unaware of the threats, as well as to reduce collateral damage. Then we see the 0-pointer… which is DAMN BIG! It's the size of a multistory building! The otters try running to safety, and Izuku moves to aid them, since safety is number one priority. Then he notices Ochaco lying down near the 0-P, and struggling to crawl away- on account of the rubble… so much for avoiding collateral. Looks like she's injured her ankle. Also looks like Tenya completely forgot the assignment- to be a fucking hero! How did he figure? Tenya was staring gormlessly at Ochaco as he was at a safe distance for now.
The 0-P was advancing on her at an impressive pace. And while Izuku could've just raised an air shield around her to stop the attacks, this felt like the perfect opportunity to use OFA. So he did so. He currently restricted himself to around 5% of full output for the purpose of hiding his abilities, and blocked the punch aimed at Ochaco. Then, without looking back, he shot up and, localizing that 5% output to his arm to increase potency, he punched it. The robot was smashed into smithereens.
Meanwhile, as the teachers watched, Toshi spoke. "That's it… it rises up, the most essential of a hero's qualities- the spirit of self-sacrifice". He said this as Izuku's arm was shown to be slightly bruised and bloody. Note that this was for show- He could already use 100% of OFA without damaging his body. Nevertheless, this was for another reason.
As he descended, slowing said descent by using wind to effectively climb a staircase, he landed, wincing slightly as his arm was buffeted by the wind. He walked to Ochaco, summoning some water to wrap his arm in. He then used earth control to lift the rubble off her leg and got her to a sitting position on said rubble. "Feeling better, Ochaco?" he asked once she was sitting. He bound her leg in water, just in case, letting the healing effects take over for both of them.
"I- I'm fine… you dunhaftaworryaboutme" She replied, that last part coming out in a small whisper. Just then, the buzzer rang, signalling the end of the exam. Izuku had accumulated 99 Combat points, having concentrated on areas where robots were not in range of any of the entrance examinees. Ochaco hadn't done too badly herself, having accrued 40 points of her own. Tenya had accrued 42 points himself, and he looked contemplative… However, the criteria for rescue points was unclear. Either way, Izuku reckoned he'd get enough to work with for entry, which was his only need. The test was a way to show his versatility while holding back- and he'd challenged himself while doing so by limiting himself to two elements.
Just then, a nasally high-pitched voice appeared. "Good work, youngins, have some gummies!" A short, frail and old woman- the Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl; real name Chiyo Shuzenji- walked forth and loved towards them, assessing their condition. Izuku's arm showed signs of immediate lightening, while Ochaco was starting to test her leg gingerly. The common factor- water around their injuries. "I assume your quirk has healing properties, young man?" she asks to confirm.
"Yes, ma'am. My quirk works a bit uniquely with respect to the elements." Izuku replied with a smile. "We just need some light rest, since healing uses up vitality. Nothing as severe as your quirk, so the gummies, while appreciated, are rather excessive." He added, while accepting one of the gummy bears she held out.
As she smiled and ambled off to hand gummies and heal the others, Izuku helped Ochaco up and offered her a gummy bear. She accepted, and then they got to talking all the way out. Turns out she admired the Space Hero: Thirteen- someone Izuku respected as well. They separated after exchanging contact information, promising to stay in contact.
A week later, as Izuku was going to bed, knowing that the letters would arrive that night or the next morning, Inko dashed to him with said letter in hand. Naturally, they dragged Tsukasa into his room as well.
And so it was that the projection came out and showed Toshinori in a yellow pinstripe suit. "I HAVE BEEN PROJECTED! Sorry about going no contact, there was a lot of paperwork involving my employment at UA. However, Midoriya-shounen, it is with great happiness that I must say that you managed to deduce every detail about the test so perfectly!" he boomed out. Izuku simply grinned.
"I doubt I have to tell you that you scored 99 Villain points. However, your actions at the end of the test- punching that 0-pointer to bits, in addition to the various times you used your quirk and situational awareness to rescue others and assist them was what netted you a further 60 points. As such, with a record breaking 159 points- 34 points more than my own entrance results, I have no hesitation in saying that you, Midoriya-shounen, are welcome here- to YOUR HERO ACADEMIA!" he finished booming, then disappeared. Is it no wonder that Inko cried?
AN:So, another chapter... I hope this chapter establishes Izuku's character more than the previous chapters. This is more of how I figure it would go if Izuku actually had a quirk that gave him mastery of the elements... from the beginning. He'll be showing his darker side soon enough- once USJ hits anyway.
Till then, Seiichi's beating the odds, and racing the horses!
