The Ghost Boy and The Super Girl
Chapter 28: Is He/She Thinking About Me?
The Next Day
Danny was at school right now. He was there physically, just not mentally.
"Same old, same old..."He thought glumly during lunch time.
He glanced down at the bracelet Kara had gifted him. The blue and red reminders him Supergirl persona.
"It fits, wish I could let her know..." He thought, thinking of Kara.
"Kara..." He whispered silently, still missing her.
His friends saw him glancing at his bracelet and one of them had an opinion they had to share.
Sam frowned when she eyed it.
"Uh, Danny...since when did you get into wearing jewelry? And did it have to be bright primary colors?..." She criticized.
"It was a gift..." Danny said, scowling at her.
Seeing it was a touchy subject, she backed off. Unfortunately, not everyone felt the same.
Dash saw this and sent a nasty grin as he started his usual trash talking.
"Hey look, Fentina is wearing bracelets now! I knew you were girly but this takes the cake!..." Dash went mockingly, though no one else laughed with him.
Danny glared at him, angered to have Kara's gift insulted.
"It's a gift. Leave me alone!..." Danny said defensively, wanting to fight him for it.
"Plus, there is a lot of jewelry aimed at guys nowadays that it's kind of common, Dash..." Tucker pointed out.
Everyone sent him a look, questioning where he got that from.
"Why do you know that?..." Sam asked, wondering how and why he had that information.
"My cousin, he is into that stuff..." Tucker went.
"Whatever... it looks dumb on you anyway... probably worth like 5 bucks..."The mean jock said, not believing anyone would give him anything more valuable.
As Dash left, laughing smugly, Danny glared at him.
"One thing I didn't miss when I was across dimensions was him..." He muttered.
He'd never miss Dash.
"Suddenly, I wish I ended up in another world too..." Sam said, irritated too by the dumb bully.
Suddenly, Danny ghost sense went off and sighed.
"Another thing I didn't miss was this part..." He added.
He ran to a nearby broom closet and changed into his ghost form.
"Okay, who is it this time?..." He asked, sounding tired but ready to fight.
He soon got his answer when he heard a familiar "Beware".
He groaned before facepalming.
"Of course, this idiot..." He muttered.
He soon spotted the Box Ghost by the storage closet and went into action.
However, he would hardly call the next few minutes of fighting "action".
Ordinarily Danny would either enjoy a chance to deal with his misplaced aggression or just ignore him since newborn kittens were tougher than the box ghost.
But not today.
Not while he still was trying to get over Kara.
Danny slowly floated toward the one obvious hiding spot where the Box ghost nearly always pops out to scare people. One of the local USPS mailboxes that happened to be near the school.
Since Danny's ghost sense went off just now, he knew that his not-so-threatening enemy was hiding in the nearest mailbox to him.
Once Danny was close enough to the mailbox, the box ghost burst out of the hatch and shouted "Beware!" at the ghost boy, which had no effect whatsoever on Danny.
"BEWARE, YOU CANNOT DEFEAT ME! THE BOX GHOST! ONCE I CLAIM ALL OF THE GLORIOUS SQUARE PARCELS, I SHALL-..." He began yet another one of his annoying rants, which already got on the ghost boys nerves.
"Another thing I DIDN'T miss was listening to a windbag like you!..." Danny said, as he sighed and pulled out his thermos.
He quickly shoved the Box Ghost into the thermos for the umpteenth time. Even the ghost's screams and complaints were ignored as the confinement was completed.
However, his ghost sense went off again and he groaned.
"Kara's no longer my only reason to miss her world..." He thought as he saw another enemy.
"Well, look at the wannabe. Rumors say that you went missing, but here you are..." He heard Ember.
Danny turned around and glared at her.
"Well...at least this one's more of a challenge..." He muttered.
"What's with the sour mood?..." Ember questioned, slightly annoyed he wasn't his usual quippy self.
"What are you? My girlfriend? Why should I tell you that?..." Danny asked, still in a bad mood.
"Fair enough. Now why don't we make up for lost time? Time to face the music, Dipstick!..." Ember went before she attacked him
This fight was well...ACTUALLY a fight, especially compared to his encounter with the Box Ghost.
Ember shot a wave of fire at him, but Danny swerved around it and avoided being hit.
He then swung his arm out in an arc and a crescent of ice energy shot out, nailing Ember across the chest and pinning her to a brick wall.
"Hey! That last move was a cheap shot!..." She complained, wanting a do-over on that fight.
Before Ember could try to melt his ice, Danny pulled out the thermos and trapped her inside.
"Maybe next time, no hit wonder..." Danny commented as he clasped the thermos shut.
A few moments later
Danny returned to the school.
He soon landed to the ground, where his friends were waiting for him.
"Is it over?..." Sam asked, wondering if there were any other ghosts around.
"Yeah...it is..." Danny said in a disappointed voice, holding the thermos up.
Thoughts went back to Supergirl and all the other members of the Justice League. Their time together was short but unforgettable.
"I wonder how she is doing right now...or if she is thinking about me?..." He thought, still missing her.
A loud cough brought the ghost boy back to Earth.
His Earth.
Turning around, he saw a scowl on Sam. And Tucker wasn't exactly happy either.
"It looks like you got lost in your thoughts like you were lost in the multiverse, or wherever you went through..." Sam complained.
"What's a matter, dude? You don't seem to be your usual quippy self..." Tucker pointed out in observation.
"Sorry, it's just... I kind of miss the other world. It was so... cool. Being with a team of heroes. I miss working with a team..."Danny said glumly, already missing his super friends in the other universe, even Stargirl..
And unintentionally offending Sam.
"Uh, Danny? We ARE a team, remember? !Team Phantom?!..." Sam pointed out, gesturing to herself, Danny and Tucker.
"Y'know what I mean. A team of heroes...like...actual, cool, kick butt superheroes who can do things you guys can't, even without powers. No offense..." Danny said.
"None taken..." Tucker said with a shrug, but the goth girl did not agree.
"A LOT taken on this end!..." Sam said with an unamused scowl as her arms crossed, not liking the idea of being left out.
"Sam..." Danny said, though his voice barely went past room level.
"What are we? Chopped tofu now?..."Sam snarked, but her tone was holding back the insulted pride she felt.
"That's not what I meant..."Danny held his hands up defensively. "I just thought it was nice having someone right beside me in the action..."He said, but she took it the wrong way again.
"And you think we're standing back here for nothing?! Or are you forgetting all the times we saved you from becoming an actual ghost!..."..."Sam said, as her tone was now anger.
And Danny understood it, but had to point out the reality of the situation.
"You guys can't fly or punch through walls. Forget ghost powers, it's not like you can shrink, turn into animals or use actual magic..." Danny said, recalling the heroes from the other world.
"Well... so glad you liked this other world so much..." Sam went, sarcasm so evident even Danny wasn't too clueless to notice.
"Sorry, it's just... I realize that outside of Danielle and Vlad, I'm the only person around with superpowers. I never realized how... alone I feel about that. If I wanted a sidekick, I'd only have one option..." Danny said, looking depressed.
"Why would Vlad be your sidekick?..." Tucker asks, misunderstanding him.
"He means Danielle..." Sam pointed out in an unamused way.
"Oh... that makes way more sense..." Tucker said absentmindedly.
Sam groaned and shook her head before speaking with Danny.
"Danny, you're not alone, you're unique. Unique is good..." She pointed out with a proud smile.
Danny sent her a frown. He recalled what Kara told him about what happened to her and he had to question her logic.
"So... if Supergirl told you she was the last survivor of her home world and she felt the same way, would you feel the same way?..." Danny askes with an eyebrow raised, expecting Sam's logic to be used against her.
Hearing that made Sam feel uncomfortable, her prideful smile dropped as she pulled back.
"Okay... sole survivors of genocide are the exception..." She admitted, seeing how insensitive that can be.
With a tired groan, Danny hovered up.
"I need some air..." He said before flying off, not wanting to talk any further.
Sam and Tucker remained still for seconds, one understanding, the other annoyed.
"He misses that girl..." Tucker pointed out, not caring about Sam's reaction.
"Well...at least she's worlds away, so it's not like Danny has to think about her for long..." Sam said with a relieved smile.
"Sympathetic as always..." Tucker snarked, glaring at her.
"I'm just pointing out the obvious that he'll never see her again..." Sam said, crossing her arms.
"That's the problem!..." Tucker pointed out, pointing to where Danny went.
"Look, come on. It's Danny, you know how he is when he falls hard for a girl. It doesn't last too long and he forgets about her, kind of those times with Paulina or Valerie. You know what I'm saying..."Sam insisted, but Tucker glared at her and decided to state the obvious.
"This isn't like Paulina or Valerie. It's obvious that he really liked this girl he met over there. And he is bummed he may never see her again..."Tucker explained, sympathetic to his pal.
"Well, soon as he accepts it, it'll stop being a problem..." Sam said.
Tucker sent her a frown.
"How exactly do you have the title of best friend along with me?.." He asked, upset she's not sympathetic to his plight.
Sam sent him a glare, refusing to dignify that with an answer.
"Let's just go..." She said, walking away as she gestured him to follow.
It's not that she didn't care that Danny was hurting, but it's not like a portal was going to magically open so that Danny could go back to superhero world with his pretty blonde alien superheroine girlfriend.
"One whom he thinks is so much better than us! I swear that it's like Danny's head is too filled with hormones to notice things! UGH!..." Sam thought angrily as she grit her fist, thinking about the alien survivor...
"Stupid alien!..." Sam thought hurt and jealous as she frowned at the idea of having a rival.
The goth girl refused to speak to Tucker, her mood ever more sour than usual.
"Maybe I find a ghost to take this out on. Too bad Danny already caught the box ghost..." She thought glumly, hating this.
While the goth girl tried to think up something that might life the ghost boy's spirits in her own way, someone else was also thinking about Danny, but not from THIS Earth.
Meanwhile
In the other universe
We return to the universe where Danny had the honor of working alongside the Justice League, an extraordinary group of heroes with amazing powers or amazing skills who always saved their own world from danger.
The league had settled down after the visit from the ghost boy. Many had gone back to their usual routines and maintaining peace in the world. However, some of the members, one in particular, were showing signs of missing Danny Phantom, the ghost kid who left quite an impression before he left.
This Justice leaguer was none other than a certain blonde heroine, Stargirl, who was quietly reminiscing her brief time with the newcomer, Danny Phantom, who had gone back home to his own universe...and right after she started to take notice of his more alluring characteristics, similarly to how he started to admire her hard work and efforts into her super hero duty.
"Why can't I stop thinking about him? It's not like we were friends and mom can't be right, can she? Right?..." She thought, feeling a little depressed.
"Still...I guess he wasn't so bad...he did acknowledge me...and said all those nice things..." She thought, recalling how his words made her feel.
A part of her even started to miss the way he would point fun at some villains and make quips that somehow managed a get a laugh out of her.
Laughs that she had kept hidden at the time, thought now she wonders why she did that.
"Why was I so mean to him again? I don't even remember why we became rivals in the first place..." She thought, regretting her past behavior.
Courtney looks up at the sky and sighed longingly, missing Danny. Even the way where he would get on her nerves sometimes.
It was confusing but it didn't change how she felt.
"I wonder how he's doing..." She said to herself, not realizing she was speaking out loud.
"Who?.." Her stepfather asked, having overheard her.
Snapping out of it, Courtney straightened herself.
"Uh...n-no one!..." She went, walking away with a flustered look on her face.
"Huh...what's going on with her?..." Her stepdad, Patrick, asked with a confused expression on his face.
"I think my girl is in love..." He heard his wife say, sounding amused.
S.T.R.I.P.E wasn't sure how to reply to his wife's words.
'"If she is in love, I wish I knew who..."He thought, wondering who the lucky guy might be.
He was unaware of his wife's playful giggling face at Patrick's obliviousness as his step daughter kept thinking about the ghost powered kid from another universe
Courtney tried to get her mind off of Danny with some boxing and gymnastics training, but no matter how hard she pushed herself, her thoughts kept coming back to that cute half ghost boy in some form or another.
"I gotta get over this! He is gone and he is NOT coming back! I gotta just forget all about him!..." Courtney mentally berate herself, though that made her feel more depressed now
Elsewhere
Kara sat on her bed, looking up at the rooftop.
The blonde alien girl has spent the better of her day off of hero work into trying to find out what this mysterious medallion could possibly be.
She tried everything at her disposal: from x-ray vision to the vast array of information on the internet. Only to have nothing to show her hard work of research, but a bunch of random books and borrowed tomes from Zatanna's personal collection.
Even with that much help and some trips a dozen libraries across the country, Kara still couldn't find any hint to where this medallion came from. Soon enough, the blonde superheroine decided to call it a day for now and take a break.
Kara"s mind began to wonder towards memories about a certain a cute half ghost teenaged superhero fro another universe.
"I wonder how he's doing, and if he made it home...and if he is thinking about me..." She asked herself before looking at the medallion.
She held it in her hands, wondering where it came from.
Kara fiddled with the medallion between her fingers. This amulet clearly had magic written all over. Now all she had to figure out was how, which was proving harder than anticipated.
The girl jumped onto her bed, holding the item that held most of her curiosity above with both hands, staring at the CW letter engraved in the front.
"Just what are you?..." Kara squinted her eyes, zooming in on an almost molecular level as she studied it further.
"You're definitely giving off mystical vibes. Big mystical vibes. It's almost like a giant billboard..."She added.
Kara wasn't used to not being able to figure out what something on earth could do. Argoan tech was centuries ahead of earth, so it's not hard to figure stuff out. Despite that, she could not figure out why couldn't she solve this thing. And none of her friends could figure out what this thing is either.
"The Lantern Corps never saw this before, Fate never saw this before...even Zatanna's magic can't seem to figure out what it does. This means it's not from this universe...but from where?..."She wondered.
But she wouldn't have to wonder for long.
The more Kara focused on the medallion, the more her eyes and the CW symbols briefly glowed into a matching blueish hue that went unnoticed by the female alien.
That's when the initials on the medallion started to glow. With a gasp, Kara dropped it, watching the glow leave the medallion and begin swirling.
Wondering if this was an attack, she quickly changed into her super girl attire and got ready for a fight. However, nothing and no one came out of the portal ever after a few minutes.
She began to calm down but got more confused.
She got closer and soon saw what looked to be some city within the strange portal.
"Is...is that what I think it is?!..." Kara asked, slowly inching towards the swirling mist and stuck her pillow through it before pulling it back.
"A portal? But to where?..." She asked out loud, before seeing a familiar figure flying inside it.
The moment her eyes landed on the figure, Supergirl gasped as her eyes widen on disbelief. She saw a flash of snow white, black, silver and two tiny green lights.
"Is that...?" She thinks before, without thinking anything else, entered the portal.
Once Supergirl vanished into the portal, the medallion glowed again before it began to disappear into spectral vapor and left nothing behind.
Now it was her turn to experience what her friend did.
