Fairy tail chapter 2

He couldn't believe it, he just couldn't. they couldn't be gone, no way. No way some dragon took them from him. He should have been there then! His very magic was created to fight against those creatures. They just couldn't be gone. Those were the thoughts running through the head of one Natsu Dragneel, after he heard the news that his friends, no, his family was gone. The whole island was destroyed. It was impossible.

There was no way the old man or Gildarts could lose, not when they were together. They were the strongest people he knew! It is not fair! No way it could happen. He just could not and would not believe it.

Was it somehow his fault? It must be; he wasn't strong enough to get chosen for the trials this time, and then when a dragon showed up, they couldn't beat it without his magic. It was his fault, he just wasn't strong enough…' Damn it!'

Just as he was about to start spiraling into a pit of despair, a sob broke him out of his wallowing. He then realized that he was not the only one affected by this news. Macao, Romeo, Bisca, Alzazk, Wakaba, Max, Warren, Nab, Laki, Droy, Jet, and Mirajane were all in different states of despair. Not to mention all the other small-time members of the guild.

It was Mirajane's sob that brought him out of his thoughts. That was a sound he never wanted to hear again, not after seeing Mirajane cry when they first lost Lisanna. Hearing and seeing Mirajane break down was gut-wrenching, and he vowed never to let that happen again. He could be sad later, and he could wallow later; he could grieve later…he would cry later. Now, now he had to be strong for himself and the rest of the guild.

Once he got his thoughts together and was able to push the emotions away, he went over to where Mirajane was on her knees crying and pulled her up to her feet and into a hug. He then turned towards Lahar and Mest or, as he was truly known now, Doranbolt.

"As far as we are aware, a mage claiming to be Zeref summoned the black dragon Acnologia and destroyed the holy land of Fairy Tale, Tenrou Island. You have our condolences." Lahar said. "We must now report this to the magic council."

As Lahar explained what happened on Tenrou island, Doranbolt stared at the floor with a look of defeat and guilt. When Lahar was done talking and was walking out, Doranbolt spoke.

"I'm sorry," he began to speak and then also started to cry. "I was out of magic, and I couldn't save them; I tried, I really did, but by the time the fight with Grimoire Heart was done, I was out of magic. I couldn't even teleport to save Wendy." He looked like a wreck, sobbing in front of the people who he deceived.

Natsu or even Mirajane would have consoled him or offered kind words at any other time, but not this time. They were grieving and hurt by the news, and they had no kind words for a stranger.

"Get out," Natsu said in a cold voice. "take your tears to the council; the fact that you worked for them and wore our guild mark makes you a traitor, and the fact that you didn't state with our members makes you a coward. This building has no place for either of those."

With that final nail on the coffin and his head hung low, Doranbolt walked out. Guilt eating away at him.

They slept at the guild hall that night, and no one wanted to be alone. All of them were still in shock or a pit of grief. Natsu barely got a wink of sleep; he was up most of the night checking on everyone and making sure to comfort anyone who had woken up from a nightmare. There were a lot of nightmares that night; eventually, after 4 am, no one went back to sleep.

Mirajane, still emotionally broken, got up and went to make everyone coffee. Everyone drank it, and it tasted like nothing; they were all just going through the motions. No one knew what to say or even how to start.

Eventually, questions had to be asked, and they needed to know how to proceed.

"so what do we do now?" Asked Laki Olietta. Laki is a slim young woman of average height with straight, pale lavender hair set in a bowl cut-like style, with her fringe covering the left part of her forehead and the right side exposed. She has brown eyes and a large, dark-colored ribbon adorning the top of her head. She is always shown wearing a pair of simple glasses with oval lenses.

"I don't know Laki." Muttered Jet, who was sitting next to her.

"Are we going to disband the guild?" Asked Max.

"I hate to say it, but we might have to." Answered Droy. "I know we never think about it, but we have a lot of enemies, and Master Makarov shielded us from them with his power and status as a wizard saint. Not to mention, he handled all of our financials. Without him, we would be stuck for a few weeks without any guild assets while we wait for the banks to give us access. Because we currently have no S-class mages, we would lose our status as a tier-one guild off of that alone."

"Now, I hate to say it, but Droy is right." Said Wakaba. "Similar things have happened to other guilds before, but none of them have lost their Guild Master, and as Droy said, we have no S-class mages. The only way for us to retain that would be for another guild to sponsor one of our members for an S-class trial or to take the council test, and the council test is much harder than guild tests."

"Our best bet might just be to disband."

Now, in another world where Natsu wasn't here, this conversation would continue along these lines, and eventually, the core members would vote to keep the guild active with Macao as the guild master. While Natsu was still checking on other members of the guild, he was also using his dragon slayer hearing to listen in on the conversation, and he did not like what he was hearing.

'They can't just disband the guild. I can't let them do that. No frecking way!' Natsu thought to himself.

"We can't disband the guild!" Natsu yelled, inadvertently snapping everyone's attention to him. Seeing that everyone was now looking at him, he had to continue. So he spoke from the heart.

"We can't disband. That would be spitting in the memory of what they all did for us. The master gave us all a home; one way or another, he gave us family. If we disbanded, everything he and the others did would be wasted. We can't disband, we can't." Now tears were flowing from his eyes. "I don't think they are gone. No way they would lose, not all of them together. If we disband and they come back, they would not have a home."

"We need to keep this Guild open and going. You say we are weak now, so we need to get stronger. We need an S-class for the guild, so I'll train with everything I have and take the council test. You say we need to have someone with strength to stand up to the council and protect us from our enemies; then, I'll get strong enough to do that. You say we won't have enough money to keep the building running, then I'll take jobs and give all the earnings to the guild."

As he said that, Mirajane began to cry once more, looking at him.

"Aside from Igneel, Fairy Tale is the only family I have. The master always said that a building doesn't make a guild. The members do. We can't disband the guild; we are all we have left. If we disband, then we won't be family anymore."

Now, the other members stood up and looked as if they had some life once again.

"So please, everyone, please don't disband the guild. Give us a chance to live up to the memory and the way of Fairy Tail." Natsu finished, now openly crying.

As he finished speaking, everyone got up and cheered and let out a roar. Fairy Tail would not die today.
