I don't know about you all, but I'm still in a bit of shock over the events of the last couple of weeks. I mean... holy hell.
Alright, to summarize what's been going on for posterity, if nothing else: Leviathan attacked Brockton Bay on on May 15th. And the Unbound killed the big spooky bastard off. Yes, other capes were there, including the Triumvirate, Dragon, and the other usual suspects, but everything that anyone has seen or heard says that the Unbound did almost all of the work in this particular case.
First off, Beast Boy literally turned into the meanest, buffest form of Godzilla ever imagined and stopped Levi's advance cold. Then they used some kind of orbital superweapon to hammer Leviathan into the seafloor. THEN Nevermore brought LITERAL METEORITES down on the monster's damn head, before finally killing him with some kind of energy spear stabbed into a point he'd been directed to by one of the Unbound's newest recruits, the former villain Tattletale.
I repeat. A single team, and primarily, a single man, KILLED. AN. ENDBRINGER. Something I, at least, had given up hope of ever seeing happen.
But Nevermore wasn't done. A week later comes news of movement by the US Pacific Fleet near Japan, and only a couple of days later, we get Video of Nevermore literally raising the island of Kyushu from out of the depths Leviathan and Lung sent it to, like he was literally turning back the clock. An act that left him looking like he was Dying by the end.
According to agents of the Japanese government that were sent to investigate afterwards, pretty much everything is just like it was the day it sank. All the buildings are where they should be, in good condition, and looking as though the inhabitants just stepped out for a stroll and would be back in a moment. Flora and fauna are as they should be, farms and growing with healthy harvests...
The Unbound are reporting that Nevermore is ok and recovering. Panacea has seen him and fixed what she could, and he's currently resting off what she can't.
I have no real clue how to take this, other than thank god Leviathan is dead and gone. We're never going to have to worry about another Atlantis recreation again.
Well, that, and I think it's pretty obvious that Eidolon has been dethroned as the World's Strongest Cape.

Kyushu is... back. Not only has the Demon been ended, but my home, the land he'd destroyed, has been restored. I can... go back home.
It is... unimaginable.

Laotsunn Congratulations. From what I hear, the Japanese Embassy is setting up a procedure to relocate former residents of Kyushu back. Hope it all goes well.

So does anyone know why the Pacific Fleet is on high alert? Beyond the obvious of 'Holy Shit An Island Came Back', I mean.

If I had to guess, it's in case the CUI try anything. I mean, something like this on their doorstep? Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to annex Kyushu before Japan can establish a presence back on it.

What are the rest of the Unbound doing now that the glorious leader is taking a break?

From what I've seen, they're out in force. I saw Imperatrix out near where the Dockworkers Association are working to get things ready for the inevitable shipping influx. Probably keeping an eye out for any gang activity. And a friend of mine saw Lyn and Lotus patrolling the border of Empire and ABB territory.

I ran into Paladin and Nike while out on patrol. They said the higher ups of the group like Cortana are busy helping handle the fallout of Kyushu being back, so the rank and file are out making sure there's no local trouble. Same as us, basically.

Gotta wonder if they're worried about something specific.

You're kidding, right? Leviathan died in Brockton Bay. The Fallen have got to be furious.

Answer Key All I'm saying is that I don't think Nevermore would be able to kill Ziz of Behemoth as easily as he did Leviathan. They both have things Leviathan didn't that would keep him from getting close enough to stab them.
►Chaosfaith
Replied On May 28th 2011:
I mean, Ziz would probably see him coming. She cheats like that. Bitch.
►Dawgsmiles (Veteran Member)

And Behemoth has that Fuck You Death Field. Nevermore is badass, but I don't know that he'd survive getting close enough to repeat the feat.
►Antigone
Replied On May 28th 2011:
Dawgsmiles I mean, are we sure about that? How do we know that Nevermore doesn't have some power to protect him from the radiation? He managed to stop the entirety of Leviathan's tsunamis. Maybe that shield could be adapted?
►Answer Key
Replied On May 28th 2011:
Exactly. Nevermore has already shown some weird powers, so how do we know he doesn't have something that'll at least let him reach Behemoth?

I'd rather not risk the biggest badass we have on a gamble like that. He could save a lot of lives just playing defensively.

I'm going to derail this derail, as it appears that there's a growing movement in Japan to have Nevermore officially declared a living kami. Not sure how exactly that works, I'm not Shinto, but honestly? Not surprised.
►Valkyr (Wiki Warrior)
Replied On May 28th 2011:
I've heard of them making dead animals kami of things like train stations (look up Tama of Kishi Station), but I thought they had to be, y'know, dead. A spirit. Not a living, breathing, Endbringer killing human.

Valkyr Pretty sure this entire situation is unprecedented in more ways than one.
►BadSamurai
Replied On May 28th 2011:
The Japanese Emperor is considered a living kami, so it's not exactly unprecedented, but that's the EMPEROR, so...

Ok, seriously, WHY IS NO ONE LISTENING TO ME!? Nevermore *has* to be related to Eidolon. He has all the crazy powers he can want! He's probably Eidolon's unknown kid or something! I mean, what's other explanation is there?
►Answer Key
Replied On May 30th 2011:
JFC, XxVoid_CowboyxX. Yes, Nevermore is the second most grab bag of grab bag capes after Eidolon, but that doesn't mean he's his kid.
►Whitecollar (Cape Wife)
Replied On May 30th 2011:
Just a day ago he was claiming Nevermore was the result of a government experiment to clone Scion using tinkertech. At least him being Eidolon's kid is more believable. You're still nuts, though, Void. I've seen Eidolon, and I can't find it in myself to believe that man has ever had sex.
►GstringGirl
Replied On May 30th 2011:
Wow, sudden Eidolon bashing, there. I've heard he's abrasive, but that's harsh.

I'm hearing rumblings that Nevermore has revealed his origin to the higher ups in government. Apparently him and most of the Unbound are from another Earth. Not confirmed, though.

Bagrat Ok, seriously, how do you hear all this stuff? Who ARE you?
Also, I'm sorry, what? I thought it was confirmed that Earth Bet had the most numerous and most powerful capes, and now you're telling me another iteration produced effing NEVERMORE?
...Any chance he could go get some friends and bring em over?
►Tristan's Sword (Verified Cape) (Unbound)
Replied On May 30th 2011:
Bagrat I'm going to have to have a talk with your source. And yes, I DO know who it is.
I suppose I can go ahead and confirm that yes, most of the Unbound, excluding Imperatrix and the former Undersiders, are from another Earth. Multiple different Earths, actually. The Remnants' world isn't even CALLED Earth. We've been dimension hopping for a while, and our capes' powers don't work the same as the local ones'. None of us have Coronas Pollentia or Gemma. Panacea has confirmed this.
As for why we're revealing this... Well, we don't see any harm in letting you all know the multiverse is even weirder than you're all aware. Trust me, you literally wouldn't believe some of the things we've seen.

Wait, if the Unbound have been hopping from Earth to Earth, does that mean you guys will be leaving eventually?

Yes, we will. We've actually been here quite a bit longer than we usually do, and we'll be jumping off in the none too distant future. Don't worry, though, we plan on leaving things better than we found them before we go. That's our usual MO, and we're more than happy to take some pressure off your shoulders. We still have plenty of plans in motion...

It's surprising how difficult it is to do a PHO interlude, even with the help of the Myrrdin Interlude Generator (which I do recommend for all of your PHO Interlude needs). I'd wanted it to be longer, but honestly, it would just be bloating the thing for no real reason.
Plus, this is my XMAS present from me to you, so I definitely wanted to make sure it came out in time. I hope you all enjoyed it.
I'm hoping I'll be able to increase my upload rate after the new year. I'm no longer sticking to a strict update rotation and will just be uploading what I want to, which will help my creativity and motivation. I already have some ideas.
Next chapter things get moving, with the conflict with China taking center stage. That'll probably a chapter or two, and then we'll see what the team in Brockton Bay have to deal with. I'm looking forward to that in particular A LOT.
Not much else to say, so here are my usual reminders:
As I've stated previously, my best friend and their roommate have a podcast. Yes, I know, everybody and their mother has a podcast these days, but I beg you to hear me out. It's called 'Two Idiots and a Dog', and they talk about pop culture in general with different shows for different topics. So far they've done 'Idiots on Film', talking about classic or important movies, and another one called 'Idiots Unleashed', where they just take a topic their Discord members vote on and talk/argue/rant about it without a filter. Their latest episode was on The Game Awards. This was recorded before the show itself, so they don't discuss what a shitshow it was, and focus on the nominees and some related topics. It was interesting. So that's 'Two Idiots and a Dog' on all your favorite podcatchers.
Secondly, I am, as always, truly grateful for those of you who are willing to send a buck or two my way out of the kindness of your heart. I relied on all of you when I wasn't working, and it definitely still helps even now that I'm gainfully employed. Thanks to you I have more of a cushion to get things I still need or pay essential bills. Like Final Fantasy XIV. (Speaking of, Ryuma Hyurinmaru on the Coeurl Server, Crystal Datacenter, North America, Astral Prime FC)
I used to have a poll on what to update there to incentivize donations, but I recently realized that part of the reason I have trouble motivating myself to write is that I've been letting others dictate what I write, so that's no longer a thing. I apologize, but as of now, I don't have anything to really reward patrons with other than my gratitude.
If you'd like to send a few cents my way anyway, I'm at Pat A Ron dotcom /athanmortis. However, if you'd rather donate a one-off amount rather than a monthly sub, I also have a Ko-Fi. That's ko-fi dotcom /athanmortis78653 .
Thank you as always for reading, and sticking with me despite my dry spells and delays. I really do appreciate it. I hope everyone is having a Happy Christmas and Merry Holidays. Till next time!
