A/N: I hope you like it :)
It was Christmas Eve, but it seemed like the ghosts didn't really care much for it. Danny, Sam and Tucker had been about to go call it a night when Skulker had showed up not far away from Danny's house and now they were fighting. Their fight was intense and Danny, already exhausted from the day and another ghost fight, was finally close to catching Skulker when he suddenly sprayed him with something. Luckily his last hit on Skulker had weakened the ghost enough to be finally sucked into the thermostat by Sam.
Smiling at the victory, Danny suddenly felt dazed. He barely managed to land before he passed out. Tucker and Sam had watched the fight and Skulker's last move, but neither knew with what Skulker had hit Danny. Immediately they check up on him, but it seemed more like he was asleep than really seriously injured.
"What should we do now?" Tucker asked his female partner in crime.
"We have to get him home. He told me earlier that his parents won't be home until tomorrow morning, so we should be fine."
"Alright, then let's get him up." Tucker said and took a hold of Danny's feet, while Sam gently hold Danny's shoulders.
Thankfully the fight had only happened a few feet away from Fenton Works and Danny had changed back into his human form before passing out. Otherwise this would have been more difficult. When they had finally managed to lay him on his bed, Danny slowly regained conscious but it was quickly obvious that he was still under the influence of Skulker's attack. Tucker saw the opportunity to finally get the two lovebirds together. It was clear to him that Danny wasn't thinking about what he was saying, so only the truth would come out.
"So Danny, don't you think that the girl next to you is pretty?" He gestured to Sam, who was sitting on Danny's other side.
Sam glared at Tucker and he was sure that she was about to not only protest, but take his PDA and throw it out of the window. However before any of that could happen they heard Danny's slightly slurred voice.
"Sure, but not as pretty as the one I'm in love with."
At his words Sam visibly flinched and Tucker saw his chance to continue his mission.
"Then how does she look?"
Danny seemed deep in thoughts for a moment before a bright smile found its way on his lips.
"She has beautiful black hair and she looks good in everything she wears."
Sam couldn't help but immediately think of Paulina and Valerie. Both were more than possible choices when it came to Danny. Maybe she should just leave, she didn't really want to hear Danny talk about either girl. It was hard enough that she knew that Danny would never return her feelings, but hearing about his feelings for another girl would be even more painful. However she found herself staying when Tucker asked Danny another question.
"That can't be all you like about her. Tell us more."
The dazed look was still on Danny's face and his next words proved that the effect of whatever Skulker had given him was intact.
"She has a great personality. She is strong and independent."
His description left only Valerie as the likely choice in Sam's eyes. It seemed that he wasn't over her. A deep sadness took a hold of Sam's heart. She had hoped that Valerie and Danny were only friends now and that he had gotten over her, but his description of the girl that he loved fit Valerie. Why was she even here? Hearing all this only confirmed what she had feared. Danny didn't feel about her like she felt about him.
"That's great, but what do you like most about her?"
"That's an easy question." Now Danny was blushing. "Her eyes. She has really beautiful amethyst-colored eyes."
Tucker heard Sam gasp and saw the disbelieving expression on her face. Clearly Sam hadn't seen it coming that Danny was talking about her. Sure, his first descriptions could have fit two other girls they knew, but now it was pretty obvious who he was talking about. Only one more question and the lovebirds had to realize what everyone else could see.
"So if you're so in love with her, why don't you just tell her?"
Danny's happy smile vanished immediately and for the first time since he had been influenced by Skulker's spray his voice sounded more serious.
"I can't tell her, she is my best friend. She doesn't feel the same and I don't want to ruin our friendship."
After his last words Tucker stopped asking him questions and a few minutes later Danny was fast asleep again.
"You heard all that. Not that it isn't fun to tease you two and watch you dance around each other, but don't you think that it's finally time for you and Danny to just be happy together?" Tucker asked the still shocked goth girl after he had made sure that Danny was really asleep.
"I don't know." Sam finally answered. Her voice was soft and unsure and so unusual from how she normally spoke that it made Tucker stop.
Gently Tucker stood up and moved so he sat down next to Sam. They might not agree on everything and often fought, but Sam was still his best friend just as much as Danny was and he couldn't bear to see her so helpless. Sam was always so sure of what she wanted and what she believed in. She didn't mind being alone with her opinion and stood up for it. Seeing her so insecure made Tucker want to help her and Danny even more.
"Sam, look at me." When she did, he softly lay a hand on her clenched one. "I would never encourage you if I would think that it could end up in heartbreak for you, or Danny for that matter. You heard him tonight. You're the one he wants, not Paulina and not Valerie."
"Are you sure? We both know that he wasn't really aware of what he was saying." There was still so much doubt in her heart that Danny could really reciprocate her feelings.
"He might or might not remember this conversation tomorrow, but this was nothing but the truth. Trust me." Tucker looked seriously at Sam. "It's up to you what you make of it, no matter if he remembers or not."
Tucker left Sam with her thoughts after that. Both decided to stay here with Danny, just to make sure that whatever Skulker had sprayed him with wasn't really something dangerous. They called their parents and they agreed to the spontaneous sleepover as long as they would not miss the Christmas celebration with their families the next morning. Thankfully there were enough sleeping bags in the Fenton household for Sam and Tucker, so the two could make themselves comfortable.
While Tucker was fast asleep in minutes, Sam couldn't find any sleep. She couldn't help but think not only about what Danny had said, but about Tucker's words as well. There had been quite a few moments when Sam had thought that maybe Danny could feel the same for her, but she had never gotten her hopes up. Danny and her were best friends so it was risky to change that, but it was hard being with him without being able to fully be with him.
"Sam, are you awake?" Danny's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. His voice sounded clear again and it seemed that the effect of Skulker's spray had worn off. A look at the clock on Danny's bedside table confirmed not only that it was Christmas now but also that it had been over five hours since his run in with Skulker.
"Yes. How are you feeling?" Quietly, so she wouldn't wake Tucker, Sam stood up from the floor and sat down on Danny's bed.
"A little strange, but overall okay. I just had a very confusing dream."
Just like Tucker had predicted it was now up to her to make the decision what she wanted to tell Danny. She knew that Tucker would respect whatever she would decide, but looking at Danny, she knew what was right for her.
"It wasn't a dream. You were under the influence of something that Skulker sprayed on you, but everything that you remember has happened." She took a deep breath and looked deep into Danny's eyes. She had to know something first, before she could finally fully open her heart to him.
"Did you mean what you said?" There was a long silence between them that followed her words, but Danny never broke eye contact with her. He kept searching her eyes for something and he must have found whatever it was because he nodded. Sam felt her heart race. "Even the part about being in love with me?"
Danny's cheeks bloomed a deep red, but his eyes stayed on hers. Gently he took a hold of her hands.
"I never planned to tell you like this, but yes it's true. I'm in love with you."
Sam felt almost like crying out of happiness and when she felt her eyes water, she knew that she couldn't hide her emotions. Danny must have misinterpreted her reaction, because pure panic showed his eyes.
"Please don't cry. If you don't feel the same, it's okay. We can stay friends. Please Sam, I just don't want to lose y-"
She stopped his rambling with her lips and smiled when he returned the kiss. Even someone as clueless as him should understand this.
Only a few feet away on the floor their best friend had watched their confession. It seemed that his Christmas mission had been successful. Maybe he had to thank Skulker the next time he saw him and give him a belated Christmas gift for helping with getting these two together.
A/N: Merry Christmas :)
