In Season 1, ep 8: "For the Girl Who Has Everything" Kara/Supergirl is put to sleep by a parasite alien plant called the "Black Mercy" by her uncle Non. But what if it was the Venom symbiote instead?
Chapter 1 : Lost In The Rage
As Kara returned home, she opened her fridge and grabbed a bottle of water when she heard a strange noise. She focused her hearing and tried to find the source; what she found was a mysterious meteorite just laying on her living room table with strange symbols. It looked like a swirl and was pulsating? Unbeknownst to her, the symbiote was watching her every move waiting for the right moment as it hid under her coach.
It made its move and before Kara could react, it bonded to her, putting her to sleep, making her dream what her heart desired while it was feeding off her life energy and started the bonding process.
Sometime later at CatCo, Winn was called into the office by his boss Cat, demanding him where Kara is but he tells her he doesn't know. Cat tells him Kara is avoiding her because she broke up with her son and if she doesn't arrive in an hour, she is fired.
Winn meets up with James who also doesn't know where Kara is and they agree to find her. They contact her sister Alex and go to Kara's apartment as Alex told them she wasn't on D.E.O business.
Alex kicks down her door and they find her asleep lying down on the floor in her supergirl suit but it's covered in a black and slimy goo. Alex calls D.E.O's medical team and she is brought to D.E.O's HQ.
Meanwhile, Kara wakes up on Krypton, not aware she is dreaming. Suddenly her mom, Alura appears and is relieved to see her daughter awake and recovered from the "argo fever". Kara refuses to believe Alura is real as she should be dead along with the rest of kryptionians.
Alura shrugs it off and ensures Kara, she was having hallucinations from the fever and hugs her, telling her she's home. Kara looks out the window and is shocked to see she is on Krypton.
Kara moves back and forth, trying to figure out what is happening, still denying anything she's seeing is real.
Kara, nothing is wrong, I told you. You're safe at home, Alura trying to calm down her daughter.
This is not my home. My home is back on.. back on… Earth! Kara struggles to remember her current home as the symbiote's effect is starting to take its effects.
Earth is thousands of light years away. And why would I ever send you to that primitive planet? Alura wondered what Kara was about.
Kara's breaths turn into quick and hyperventilating breaths as she runs away, trying to find any clue on what's going on with her. Suddenly her father appears alongside Alura.
There you are Kara. Glad to see you're looking better, her dad Zor-El points out.
She runs in the opposite direction and returns to her bedroom and somehow her father and mother were already there waiting for her. She should be questioning how her "parents" arrived there quicker but instead as she focused on a familiar crack on a shelf she cracked and started reminiscing about her childhood.
Yet, even after you fell, you got right back up again. Nothing can keep you down, Astra, her aunt said.
Kara loses her cool as she accuses her aunt Astra and her uncle Non are behind this and tries to tell her parents about how she recently fought them on Earth but her memories fail her as she starts to lose details and begins to ponder if they're real memories at all.
She starts to question what is real and what is not and suddenly her younger cousin Kal-El appears holding an orb, and asks her to open it.
Distracted, Kara opened it like she had done it a million times. As it opened, it displayed a holographic map of the cosmos.
Hey Kara, look there's Krypton, isn't it beautiful? Kal-El asked.
It's so beautiful, Kara replied as she was awestruck, not by the map but realizing she was home where she belonged.
Yeesss Kara. You're home now, Venom hissed as the bonding process was coming along well.
Some time later
Back in the real world, Alex having learnt the "truth" from Astra, who told her it was a parasitic alien plant known as "Black Mercy" kept her in a dreamlike state, not realizing she was lying.
Together with the D.E.O and Maxwell(Max), they built an advanced VR headset so Alex can enter Kara's subconscious and wake her up. As Alex wakes up, she realizes immediately she's in a fantasy version of Krypton.
Alex sneaks through the hallways of the apartment with a gun she stole from a guard, looking for her sister and finally finds her in the room Kara woke up in, talking with her family.
Kara, having fallen into Venom's trap, couldn't remember her sister. As Alex tries to remind her of who she is, Kara hits Alex with the homemade sculpture she made and knocks Alex out. When Alex wakes up again, she finds herself in a courtroom and in handcuffs.
The high council has rendered our verdict on the alien spy. We impose the maximum penalty. Banishment to the phantom zone, Alura states.
Kara, if they take me away, you and I will be trapped here until the black mercy kills us, Alex claims as she resists the guards.
Do not listen to her. Once she is gone, we'll be happy. Like we were before she came here. Zor-El trying to convince her daughter, Alex is telling lies.
Why do you think they're trying to silence me? It's because they're afraid of what I have to say!
She's trying to confuse you with lies. Alura joined Zor-El in making Kara not to listen to the "lies".
No! I'm trying to remind you of the truth. Life isn't perfect. I know it can be hard and it can be lonely. Especially for you. You have sacrificed and you have lost so much.
I wish you could've had a life with your family. But even if you did, Kara, it wouldn't be this. Because this isn't real. And deep down, Kara. Deep down, you know it. Alex sobs as the environment around them starts to rumble.
NO! We will not let her have our host, Venom panics as its hold on Kara starts to wane.
I can't promise you a life without pain and loss because pain is a part of life. It's what makes us who we are. It is what makes you a hero. Alex fights off the guards guarding her.
You fight every day to keep people from struggling like you have. I know you can remember, please…If you try, please… Please try, Kara. Because Earth needs Supergirl. Alex says as the rumbling continues.
Supergirl.. Kara says under her breath and starts to remember.
Your friends need you and I need my sister! Alex sobs.
Kara, I can't choose this for you. You have to choose it yourself, Alex's voice cracks as she tries her hardest to wake up her sister while the guards kick her.
Please come back to us, Kara. Please. Alex says with heavy breaths.
Kara finally accepts the world she's in, is not real and tells her "family" how much she misses them and she wished it was real but her current family needs her. As Kara tries to grab Alex's hand so they can wake up. Alura gets in the way as her eyes turn pitch black.
We will never let you go, Venom says as it reveals its true identity, a big mass of slimy black goo with 2 white lenses for eyes. It spreads across her body while Kara tries to rip it off. Alex fights off the clones of Venom and helps Kara peel off the goo.
Kara, grab my hand! Alex shouts.
Kara struggles to reach her sister's hand as she is piled up by the ever growing goo but Alex manages to stick through her hands into the depths of the symbiote and Kara grabs her hand as a white flash imites, indicating they were waking up.
NOOOOOO! Venom screamed as the bonding process was disrupted.
As Alex wakes up, she immediately stands up and checks up on her sister who remained asleep. Alex becomes furious as she believes J'onn and the others pulled her out despite telling them not to. After a quick back and forth arguing, J'onn manages to get the word in telling her, they didn't pull her out.
Then why isn't she awake! Alex yells as Winn steps into the room.
Because you did it. You did it. You did it. You convinced her, Winn repeats his words.
The cocoon around Kara was dissolving but something wasn't quite right as Kara's supergirl costume remained unchanged. The blue shirt, her cape and skirt was still black, her S-symbol was white, and the over-the-knee boots were blood red.
Kara, visibly shaken from the experience, slowly stood up and walked towards one of the walls in the room.
Are you okay Kara? James asked but Kara still didn't answer. As Kara turned around to face everyone, her eyes tearing up.
Who did this to me? Kara asked everyone in the room.
Non, Alex answered.
Where is he? Kara said as she tried to hold back her anger but a hint of venom could be heard in her tone.
Kara, I know you're upset but your suit, you should probably take it off, Alex said.
Kara walked past her sister and as she was about to exit the room, she looked over her shoulder. We can worry about my suit later, right now I just wanna make Non PAY for what he did. Kara said angrily.
A few moments later
After figuring out what Non was after, D.E.O splits into several teams, protecting Max's labs.
Supergirl rushed to the lab where Non was and tackled him, not realizing how much more powerful she was.
Do you have any idea what you did to me?! You made me lose them again! My parents! My whole world! And you think that I'm gonna let you take this world away from me, too? Supergirl ranted as she punched Non inbetween her sentences.
You think I'm gonna let you hurt them like you hurt me? NEVER! Supergirl screamed as she punched Non a few times before throwing him as Venom amplified her rage.
You stupid girl! Do you have any idea what you're doing! Non questioning Supergirl.
Yes, I'm stopping you. Supergirl answered.
Your mother believed she could, but she failed, Non said.
I won't, Supergirls replied as she punched Non so hard he flew back.
I've known pain but I've also known love. And the people here are my family. I may have been born on Krypton, but I choose Earth. And I will protect IT until my last breath, Supergirl venting her anger out on Non.
You have the hubris of the great house of El, which blinds you to the truth. Humanity is a disease. Myriad is the cure, Non said as he blasted Supergirl with his laser vision.
I see my plan worked after all, I must admit the black looks good on you. But it's time, we end this. Venom, make Kara stand down and do as I tell you, Non commands to a confused Supergirl.
What are you doing? I don't know what this "Venom" is but I ain't as hell going to do what you tell me! Supergirl yelled as she regained her footing.
Non was surprised why Venom didn't listen to its command, the symbiote was clearly on her. Yet it seemed as if Kara's anger was so strong, not even Venom could control her at the moment. Not knowing Venom was actually thriving being with Kara and had betrayed Non.
I will not be dying today, Non said as he melted the base of the satellite dish, making it fall and flew away, thinking Kara would stop the falling dish. Suddenly Supergirl grabbed him by the leg and threw him back onto the ground.
Before he had a chance to stand, Supergirl stomped on his stomach so hard you could hear the bones cracking.
Oh, you WILL die today, Supergirl said in an almost unrecognizable tone as she started beating her uncle up.
Over the comms, Alex tried to contact Supergirl but she didn't respond as she was so focused on killing her uncle.
I give up, Non said, struggling to say as his vocal chords were heavily damaged from Kara's beating, his face was almost unrecognizable and filled with blood all over his face.
But Supergirl didn't listen, she continued to punch him, with every punch getting harder and harder, if you could see her face, was smiling like a maniac as the rush of power provided by Venom was consuming her in her own rage and forgetting her morals.
Finally, she finished things off as she ripped his head off, finishing her revenge and headed to Alex where she couldn't believe her aunt was dying. In their last moment together, Kara said she was sorry that J'onn had to kill her but her eyes widened as Astra revealed who really killed her with her last breath before she died.
Kara's apartment later that night
As Kara entered her apartment, she was surprised to see Winn, Jameson and her sister were in her apartment.
We need to talk about that "perfect fantasy world" I was in, Kara said.
Kara we don't need to… James said before Kara continued.
I want to tell you guys why I imagined myself on Krypton. It's not because I hate it here. It's because the past few weeks I've been feeling lost and like I did when I first came to Earth. So I started fantasizing about the same things I used to back then. I chose to come back because I realized, I belong here with you… My family, Kara said but she didn't look at Alex.
I guess it's true. There's no place like home, Kara said as everyone was in awe of her sweet words.
Kara gasped as James revealed they had bought her favourite food, that being potstickers and ice cream. Kara bounced as she was so ready to celebrate but then Alex wanted to say something.
Kara, there's… um. There's something that you should know.
You're not actually going to lie to me, Kara thought as she hoped her sister could explain why she killed her aunt and lied about it.
Yeah, sure. What is it? Kara giving the go ahead.
Hank tried to cover for you at work while you were gone, Alex revealed.
Oh, Kara pretended to be happy but she was disappointed Alex didn't admit her lie. Kara's face turned sour.
How could you? Kara suddenly said.
Could what? Alex not knowing Kara knew Alex killed her aunt.
Don't lie to me, I KNOW YOU KILLED ASTRA! So why did you lie to me! Kara yelled as she suddenly grabbed Alex by the neck, lifted her up and started to choke her.
Woah, both Winn and James said as they didn't expect Kara's actions. But what surprised and scared them more was her outfit was changing into her black supergirl costume.
How did we forget about that? Winn said.
Kara, STOP! What is this about Alex lying? James is trying to calm Kara down.
You guys, don't get in my way, I don't want to hurt you two but Alex, unless you reveal the truth, I won't be so kind anymore, Kara venomously said.
Alex could barely utter a word as Kara's grip was so strong that she could barely breathe.
James and Winn immediately tried to pull away Kara's grip on Alex but Kara stood her ground as she pushed them away as they landed and accidentally destroyed some of Kara' furniture.
Kara don't do this, she's your family! James said.
You know Alex wouldn't lie to you, she loves you the most in the world, Winn said.
Wait, did you two also know but didn't tell me! Kara accuses her best friends of lying as she releases her grip on Alex who dropped to the floor, holding her neck and gasping for air.
We don't know anything, Kara, Winn trying to calm her down as Kara walked towards them with her eyes turning a glowing blue, ready to laser her best friends.
It turned into a one sided brawl as the trio of James, Winn and Alex all tried to stop their powerful Kara who was lost in her rage. It wasn't until one of them accidentally turned the volume up on Kara's speakers where they learned about Venom's weakness.
Kara screamed in pain as her suit was loosening up. Venom screeched in pain as it rapidly lost control over Kara.
Guys, find anything that makes loud noises and keep at it, Alex commanded. Everyone got creative and did everything to make loud noises as Kara became weaker and weaker until Venom finally separated from Kara.
Kara passed out from the painful separation, fully naked while Venom; back to its true form, laid on the ground, barely moving before Alex put it in a jar for safe keeping.
In the aftermath, Venom got locked away at D.E.O's HQ and Kara recovered from being influenced by Venom. Kara regretted everything she said and did while she was under the influence, when she saw the footage of Non, she almost vomited from how brutally she killed him. However, her relationship with J'onn and Alex wasn't the same as their lies still stung.
But it wouldn't be the last time Kara and Venom crossed paths as they were destined to be together.
