Chapter 1:

The phone rang at an odd time; 2:43 a.m. Due to the sound, she moved towards it feeling alarmed while different scenarios were tainting her mind. The first thought was her sister; who was currently on an expedition in Antarctica, and even though she was not in love with the idea of her down the most desolate continent in the world, she vouched for her when presenting the prospect to their father.

Speaking of which, her second thought was that her father needed her ASAP, which rarely happened since Neji was his right hand and therefore her father's first call; quickly she discarded that thought since both of them were in Kyoto closing negotiations before the year ended; so again that thought became discarded.

The third thought was her husband. He was spending quality time with his Godfather, whom she only met during the wedding reception, almost a year ago. But the man was so busy with his travels of research, gathering new material for his books. Now, she loved to read, and the idea of being related to an author was very appealing, but that thought was crushed when she realized what type of book the man liked to write; still, at the end of the day it wasn't a deal breaker, she liked Jiraiya-san, even though they've only shared pleasantries on that occasion. So, of course, when her husband said he was going to spend time with his relative she thought it was a good idea.

Their marriage has not been the best lately. Naruto, her husband, has been distant, mentally and physically. It was like he didn't want to be in their apartment ever, he stepped foot inside for a minute and actively looked for ways to be away. She noticed of course; her name was Hinata Hyūga, and there was a common legend that her family eyes were prized possessions. During the dynasties era, their eyes were very sought since it was said that they could see every little thing. From minuscule twitches that gave away when somebody was committing treason, or when dignitaries were not being truthful.

Back in her day, she knew her husband very well, it also didn't help his case that he was very boisterous and expressive with his emotions. Therefore it was clear as a sunny day, that Naruto was not happy with her, so the nagging thought of him being distant was ever persistent in the last few months. If she was being honest with herself she too accepted she was not happy either; not knowing what to do in these sorts of situations the Hyūga opted for what she knew best. Be patient and wait for this situation to dissolve itself with the least mess possible.

It was a nice prospect, she thought optimistically before taking this call in the present time, ringing with a government-based number. She took a deep breath.

"Hello..?"

Sasuke has been to the police station before. His family comes from a long line of lawyers; especially in his branch which was heavily involved with criminal law. So this place was always a stop on his way to resolving the issues of civilians. He wasn't strange to these places.

However, this was a personal thing, and his head was pounding with the idea of all these officers recognizing his persona in this current predicament in the back of his mind. In his life, some situations barely cracked his façade, he was thirty years old, and gone were the days he would impulsively act and follow his hot-headed actions. Up until this time, of course, that old persona in his teenage years was craving to get out and say exactly what was on his mind in his current predicament. It was a good thing that his career had taught him to be cold-headed and think of all the possible scenarios as to why this situation could have a positive outcome

Spoiler alert: there was none, and he was furious when he heard his wife was detained at the police station at almost 3 in the morning.

"Uchiha Sasuke," he said at the front desk as if no one knew who he was already. He absentmindedly continued the conversation answering questions about the detained person inside. "Haruno Sakura,"

"Relation?" the officer asked.

He didn't realize until later that he lowered his voice. "My wife,"

It looked like the officer was surprised by that information, but continued typing the information for the next two minutes; there were minor protocol questions like address, license number, and phone number that received the call, etc. It seemed that just when he was about to get up to be escorted to the cell, in which undoubtedly his spouse was detained. Sasuke was thinking of ways to approach this, and he got the major detail.

Public indecency.

Just before he wanted to go into the possible situation as to why his partner was charged with this misdemeanor. There was a sudden whoosh and he instinctively looked. Coming towards the desk, was a petite woman with long blueish-black hair, and red cheeks, possibly due to her fast-paced movement, but what held his attention for a second longer than necessary was the slightly chapped pink lips.

He blinked away catching himself, focusing on his brother's text message.

"Ano... my name is Uzumaki Hinata," she said. "I've got a call for Uzumaki Naruto,"

The officer clicked on his computer, pretty much annotating the information provided. "Relation?"

"His wife,"

Sasuke knew that after that information was revealed he shouldn't feel unsettled, but he would be lying if he declined such a thing. The same protocol that he was subjected to before the woman's arrival. In another situation, he would've been annoyed that the officer would make him wait just before he was about to be escorted, but in this situation, he didn't mind waiting. He's been in this same position hundreds of times, but never for someone so close to him, so this stalled moment became a good time to regroup his ideas.

"Follow me please," the officer said looking at both of them with an awkward expression, which had them confused until the idea finally dawned on the Uchiha first.

'Could it be?'

Life was truly a comedian. He looked at the woman beside her, who was carefully looking at her feet, a thought that was marring her mind in the most tortuous way; he was almost curious to know what kind of thought was running through her mind to carry such an expression. His phone vibrated with a text from his brother.

Are you ok?

He quickly typed back.

Will see her in a second.

He then put the device in his pocket, not promising an update as soon as possible because he wasn't sure what he was going to encounter. The police station was not big, there were two cells opposite of each other. Inside the right cell was his wife's disheveled pink hair her very short pink dress with grass stains, and her mascara was smudged around her eyes; such eyes looked at him a little panicked, but ready to face what was going on. On the contrary, in the left cell was a blonde guy almost as tall as him, and his blue eyes crystalized when he saw the girl beside him.

"Hina..." he breathed, walking to the cell door and waiting for the officer to open it. The pink-haired woman looked at the blond's actions and her forehead formed a frown. Once out she was beside the blonde guy almost afraid to touch each other but not separated.

"Both of your bails were paid by your spouses," the officer informed both parties. "Your court day will be..."

"E-Excuse me..." the timid girl seemed to be looking at the pair with inquisitive eyes, but based on the look in her husband's eyes, and the girl's stance barely meeting her face, she just had to ask. Not the best timing, but she just needed to get it off her chest. "Why was my husband arrested?"

"Class B misdemeanor; public indecency, ma'am,"

Hinata almost forgot how to breathe; finally, the pieces were falling together while Naruto tried to grab her arms which she evaded taking a step back.

'I was right,' his mind resonated, he held his nose at the impending headache that was escalating while seeing his wife trying to reach him.

"Sasuke-kun..." Sakura called. "I'm so sorry... I didn't..." Her hiccups were starting.

"With her?" Hinata quietly asked, looking at her husband. "In public... really?"

"I can explain..." the blonde tried to say in a somber voice.

"I'm not sure I want to..." she said looking at him with disgust for the first time in her life.

"I want a divorce," Sasuke said on his part, while the other conversation was happening at the same time. "Expect the papers in a few hours," he said with finality.

"What?" the anger was sizzling from the green eyes of the Haruno. "You don't even want to talk it out?"

"There's nothing to talk about, Sakura," he said.

She scoffed at that.

"Hinata I've..."

"I know... that we haven't been happy," she said almost hugging herself trying everything to not let him touch her.

"I tried," he said, tears falling from his blue orbs; her heart felt a pull at that face, but she had to be strong.

"No, you didn't," her eyes wanted to cry, but she was not going to. He looked remorseful but only because she found out, which was hurtful on its own. "You just were afraid to end up alone... and me too." she quietly confessed for the first time out loud.

More tears seemed to stream out of her husband's eyes after hearing that.

"You know how hard is to be with you, Sasuke?" Sakura raised her voice. "Always working, never home, and when you are, you are in that damn office. I barely get scraps,"

"You wanted those scraps," he said without missing a beat. "You've always known what was my life like, but based on what you said, you were fine with it. Should've thought of that better," he finished objectively.

"You're such an ass!" she finally exploded with her temper. "You're right, I should've known from the moment you didn't let me take your last name."

"Less paperwork for you to do."

"Do you love her?" Hinata asked Naruto. From the moment she met him, she thought they were destined to be together, and that they could love each other, but that last hope from her teenage self was crushed with the next line.

"I don't know..." he said. "I just like how I feel with her,"

She stayed for a second more quiet than usual, the conversation from the other couple serving as background noise while her heart was attacking her with all sorts of emotions, that she was desperately trying to shut down until it was time to crumble.

"You have until the day after tomorrow to pick all of your stuff," she said with finality, not raising her voice, just void.

"You're kicking me out?" he asked a little panicked. "Hinata please, I know you have your own money, and is easy for you to move forward but for me..."

"I talked to your Godfather on my way here," she said. "You know since you told me your guys were spending time together." she laughed bitterly recalling the lie while in reality, her husband was showing his ass cheeks in a public park. "He can take you in while you resettle," she said.

He just stared in shock, slowly realizing that his life changed drastically.

"Don't expect any sort of alimony, sign the papers, and let's be out of each other's life." Sasuke finished Sakura's rant on his part, quickly turning around and leaving the area completely.

"Fine!" she screamed not wanting him to have the last word before crying and seeking comfort within herself.

Hinata looked at his soon-to-be husband, wanting to say a lot but nothing at the same time knowing it was going to be useless, she left after she met the green-eyed girl's stare.

Based on the wind outside it was obvious this autumn was announcing that winter was going to be unforgiving; she wished she could've brought a scarf to keep her neck warm. She looked at the deserted empty streets before crossing and waiting in front of the station for her Uber; it was almost four in the morning. The wise thing would be to just stay home and cancel her meetings today, but she wanted nothing more than to keep her mind occupied.

Another windy stream passed by and she shivered a little. Suddenly, a hand extended her a pack of cigarettes. She looked ahead and saw that it was the man whose wife was her husband's mistress. Insecurely she took a cigarette, he quickly offered her a flame and she inhaled from the cancer stick. She wasn't a regular smoker, but a too-stressed moment kind of thing, which hadn't happened a lot, just when it was much needed.

Just like now.

Feeling the smoke escape her nostrils she looked at the dark leaned man a few feet from her.

"Thank you," she murmured.

He shook his head while inhaling a bit of his cigarette, looking ahead, with a heavy mind just like her. It was a dark night, the new moon hiding in the blue mantle, almost like taking a quiet stance of hiding from the shit show she went through, well they went through. Hinata didn't pay much attention to him but was aware of his presence as soon as she entered the station almost an hour ago. Now that they were alone, she noticed how tall he was, also how he had the most perfect profile with an aristocratic nose.

She got warm all of a sudden, not sure if it was from the cigarette or something else. Her eyes quickly caught the protagonist of the love affair walking out of the station and seemingly in their little bubble of misery and tacky hope. Hinata wished she could hate them, but she knew her marriage was over, probably before their entanglement began; however, she refused to keep staring at them. She inhaled from the cancer stick again, this time a little longer before extinguishing the cylinder.

"What are you going to do?"

"Excuse me..." she asked. She looked at the man who had just spoken to her.

"Are you separating, divorcing... figuring things out?" he inquisitively was looking for an answer before she even opened her mouth.

"Oh..." she blinked. "Separating,"

"Hmm.." he seemed to nod neutrally; she wasn't sure if there was such a thing, or if it was something that was just a trademark of his.

"I'm sorry," she said looking ahead.

"For what?" he threw the cigarette after extinguishing it. "You didn't tell your husband to fuck my wife in a kid's park,"

In another situation, she could've flinched at his choice of words, but to be honest, it was fitting. She was tired of this whole thing. "Still it's an unfortunate situation," she commented.

The Uchiha just shrugged. "I guess it was a possibility,"

Her Uber arrived, and she turned to face him. "Again, I'm so sorry. Although unlikely, I hope you have a good night," she went to open the car door, only to be stopped by the man.

"Here," he handed her a business card. "Just in case you need a lawyer."

"Thank you," she said. "For everything," she tried to smile even though it was not possible. If she would've paid a bit more attention she would've noticed how insistent his eyes seemed to be looking for hers.
