Chapter 137: Final Battle

Flexibility was the key point of Sakura's abilities, whether it is by themselves or using them in combination with one another Sakura's cards were all capable of wreaking supernatural havoc on the environment. Physically restraining a massive hoard of undead abominations with enough poisonous flowers to fill the streets of a city may not seem like the best of ideas, however Sakura could control which of the poisons she unleashes through the card, say for instance a rather nasty cocktail that was designed to work specifically to work against the undead. The Paralysis poison might not be lethal but whether alive or dead it was more than capable of making muscles seize. This however was only the first stage. One of the First things that Chazz taught Sakura was to use her cards abilities to create a miniature world.

"First establish the laws of the world using Space, Time, Gravity, Creation, Metamorphosis, Spirit and Evolution. Fill in with Matter and Energy with Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, Metal, Wood and Lightning." Sakura had the cards laid out one by one on a board in front of her, only now adding the finishing touches. "Dark and Light balances everything out!" Putting down the last two cards on her formation a wave of light was sent out into the world as a miniature world that Sakura alone controls was released. "Now that that's done, I need to work on personnel next." Sakura pulled out eight more cards and summoned their spirits with her staff. A blonde Haired woman in knight's armour, a blue coloured woman carrying a Spear, a purple haired girl carrying a shield, a lime green woman with a bow, a short black spirit carrying a butcher's knife, a purple woman in a cloak wearing several jewels, another short pink girl wearing a large unzipped jacket, and finally a large creature resembling a cross between a bird, a lion and a orca.

"Sabre, Lancer, Shielder, Archer, Hunter, Caster, Berserker and Beast I need the eight of you to go to each of the capitals and escort people somewhere safe inside of the miniature world I created." The other main feature of Sakura's weapon was numbers. Kaede, Jade and the others only have a limited number of places that they can act in at a time, Sakura has fifty three.

The Sacred Gear system built into their weapons have a number of extra features, according to the explanations they got from the pervert from hell most of them seemed to be based on his own experiences with the Sacred Gear, the whole 'Pawn, Knight, Bishop, Rook and Queen' deal seemed to have been something that came from the fact that in addition to being human he was also a so-called 'Reincarnated Devil.' Thanks to Maple and Katarina the Girls had Rook transformations in the form of the Mystic Knight/Demon Masquerade forms. Knight form was somewhat more difficult, Tanya had her mass manipulating and flight magic, Kuro has various Rider Type Noble Phantasms that she can summon, and the Riders to go with them, but neither of those are what you'd call 'Balance Breaker Class'. Bishop though? Bishop was well developed for both of them.

"You wanna go first or should I?" Even though Tanya was saying that she already had her bow out and was ready to fire.

"I'd rather not destroy the castle town in the process of saving it." Kuro was already getting ready to go on the offensive too, already her Mystic knight was out and in the process of fusing her body into it.

"Then I'll go first."

'Bringer of Nightmares' was a powerful skill that causes powerful widespread hallucinations yes, but ultimately limited in it's usefulness, especially with the other half of their group working to wipe out Medea's army. So instead Tanya and Kuro made a new weapon to kill their enemy off, applying the same conceptual god killing formula that was created by the original Divine Magic users, only this case they are explicitly using Medea's name to do it. Tanya reflected that weapon with the Knock off Gungnir that she got from Kuro, then came the episode of hideous over kill. Because Tanya is a firm believer of 'there is no kill like over kill' she had already prepared the same combination of skills that she used to deploy Bringing of Nightmares in her own home world.

"Rapid Fire X! Scatter Shot X! Arrow Rain X!" One Hundred Arrows fired from Tanya's bow, each split into Fifteen individual Arrows, each of them went into the sky as a magical formation appeared where a arrow made contact with the sky and produced a hundred individual projectiles each. One hundred Fifty Thousand projectiles bypassed time, space and magical barriers all for the purpose of pumping each and every one of their individual projectiles into Medea's and her various possible clones bodies to ensure with complete certainty that she was dead. Some of the projectiles went into different directions, others directly flew out of the atmosphere to other worlds, most of them just flew into the castle proper. There was a pregnant pause in the air as the two Heroes looked at the castle waiting for something following Tanya's attack, the Death of a God should be something more dramatic than this after all, Tanya knows that from personal experience.

"Did we get her?" Kuro was the one to break the silence first.

"Get who?" A familiar voice, a very familiar voice in fact, sounded behind the duo. Slowly turning around, the duo were greeted by the familiar form of Malty S. Melromarc, before a blow to their faces sent both of them flying.

Curled up in her crystal Cocoon, Maple's entire body twitched, as if she felt a change in her circumstances, which should only be a drop in the bucket, except that all of her circumstances had changed at once. Without being constantly assaulted by the power of a goddess Maple was able to drop her cocoon and give herself a stretch, her bones popping back into place while she looked at her interface.

"So the others were able to do something about her after all." Maple stated happily while she rose into a seated position.

"Considering how much of an opening that you left them I would assume so." Kaede turned around to find her father waiting for her, looking down at her crossed. "Come on. Let's finish this." It showed just how upset he was at her for everything that had happened that his only response had been to lead her away to go and finish the madness that he had started so long ago.

"Did... Did I do good?" Naofumi stopped at the question.

"You've done more than enough. You've done more than anyone could've asked of you, anyone could've ever conceived of asking you. My incredible pride for you and your actions is only matched by my immeasurable rage at the danger and self mutilation that you've put yourself through, and I swear that if you ever do this again I will personally erase the entire chain of events that led you to be summoned as a Hero in the first place. Am I making myself clear?" Maple nodded in response.

"What were those events anyway?" That was still a point of confusion for the girl and she could only sigh in response. "I made a passing comment in a moment of Anger to the shield that it should've protected you instead of me." Naofumi gestured to the young woman before him. "This was the result of that comment."

"So then..." Kaede had already drawn a conclusion from the situation.

"I never wanted you to be put through even this bastardisation of what I went through. Everything about this situation is entirely my fault and I take sole blame." Naofumi stated as he let out a sigh. "Fixing this should be my responsibility. And I tried I really tried..." Kaede took her father's hand.

"It's alright to ask for help, especially when you aren't feeling well." Kaede squeezed her father's hand trying to reassure him.

"This isn't a head cold Kaede." Naofumi let out an exasperated sigh.

"No it's the curse series, which means that we have the dual problem of you both being one of the few people who can deal with this madness and you're too compromised to be able to do so." Kaede stated as she walked around to look her father in the eye.

"So you want me to let you finish what I started?" Naofumi asked letting out a sigh. "With all do respect but I'm concerned about your methods."

"Not as concerned as I am about yours." Kaede stated letting out a sigh. "Dad. Where did Malty come from? Every trace of her should've been erased when the timeline reset." Kaede stated looking directly at her father for confirmation, who could only bitterly nod in response.

"Medea completed the Paradox, the universe isn't going to delete itself again, so long as she doesn't erase herself from existence again." Naofumi stated and Kaede nodded her head in understanding, it also means that this is their last chance to get everything right too.

"If she does get away from us then you all are going to have to stop her from getting any further." Kaede got up to leave, though she was soon interrupted by new arrivals in the form of Setsuna, Ikki and Tatsuya.

"We have a problem." The Demon Dog Woman stated in no uncertain terms.

The two fully transformed Heroes were pushed back several feet after receiving punches from Medea. Tanya once again fired off tens of thousands of the shots from the Medea Killing Bow only for the shots to disappear before they could make contact with her.

"How the hell do you keep doing that!?" The biomechanical Directional Beast/Demon Hybrid formerly known as Tanya growled as she glared.

"I'm not going to tell you." Medea stated as she cracked her fingers. "We're in the middle of a fight." A statement that Tanya chose to punctuate with another 150 000 shots from her bow again.

"Her history just changed a whole bunch!" Kuro stated looking surprised. "She's sending the shots into her past!"

"Then why isn't she dead yet!" Tanya glared as she circled around her opponent some more. "Because she has had thousands of past versions of herself through soul splitting, like with Naofumi!" Another swing of Medea's arm sent Kuro flying backwards.

"Millions actually." Medea held out her hand and a whip made out of sinister black and red energy appeared in her hand. "Naofumi and his friends spent a considerable amount of time hunting them down and destroying my soul fragments. Thanks to you two I've been able to reclaim them."

"That also means you've run out of-!" Tanya prepared to draw her bow to fire again but was interrupted, both Tanya and Kuro were nailed to a wall their throats held tight in the grip of the goddess they've been fighting.

"Forget!" After a few moments the duo felt something change in them though they couldn't figure out what or how. For now they had a goddess to kill. A mountain of blades and a dozen or so gun blasts pushed the Goddess away, Tanya already had a shot lined up with...

"Crud!" Tanya snapped as she realised the name of her weapon had changed. 'Bow of _ Killing' Not only had someone deleted the most important part of Tanya's anti god weapon, but Tanya couldn't even remember what that part actually was either. "Kuro!" Tanya shouted only to see the same look on Kuro's face as what she knew she had on her own.

"And for my next trick." The Goddess snapped her fingers, immediately her dark magic flowed through the two girls weapons.

Unfortunately for her they were prepared for this inevitability.

Kuro had spent a long time thinking about how they would counteract the reincarnated and their weapon stealing abilities, the solution she reached laid in the Dagger of Betrayal, not in it's ability to take away this Goddess's blessings from her foot soldiers, but something that would prevent her from taking them in the first place, so Kuro forged a new weapon, combining the 'reversing' effect of the Ascalon with the Dagger of Betrayal's essence of Treachery. Now instead of undoing The Goddesses blessings they could cut them off completely.

"Tsk." The Goddess snapped her fingers and a loud boom echoed out as both Heroes were sent flying backwards with a loud boom. "If the divine won't work on you two." Both girls gaped in horror as they watched a familiar pitch black flame appear in The Goddess's hand. "Then let's try the damned!"

The Goddess dropped the ball of flame onto the ground, and then both girls were consumed in a sea of flames. Tanya reacted first, this wasn't the first time that she's consumed the fires of the cursed series after all. She breathed deep sucking the fires around her inside of herself, channelling the cursed flame into herself while Kuro prepared to strike with her own weapon- Tanya's efforts to Eat the Goddesses curse was interrupted by a pair of Bright glowing emerald eyes behind a flaming fist sent Tanya flying out of the sea of flames. The demonic flames suddenly vanished, and in their place was Kuro in her own mystic knight form, claws of the Holy Demonic Excalibur at the ready flooding with elemental power. Kuro slammed her weapons down on the Goddess, who took one step forward and slammed her fist into the palm of Kuro's mech pushing the claws away and followed that up with another mass of dark flames to Kuro's face pushing her back and leaving a nasty burn going across her face.

"Wrath, Envy-" The crimson/black flames and glowing green eyes were accompanied by a black aura as the Goddess stopped moving. "And Sloth? Where the hell did you get Curse Series skills!?" Tanya snapped as she prepared her weapon to strike again. "I am the Cursed Series!" That ominous sentence let out, the girls were interrupted by several exploding projectiles. Flying above the three individuals was a pair of Phoenixes, one Rainbow Coloured and the other Red and Black, and she dropped off a little package too in the form of an exo-suit wearing Jade.

The half naked martial artist slammed her weapon down between the two sides forcing the Goddess back even as she pooled together another ball of black flames.

"Please tell me you two remember her name." Tanya stated as she armed her bow again. "I don't. But it doesn't matter since all I have to do is beat this bitch to death!" Jade charged forward, her massive war club ready to smash its way through the Goddess and end this. The Goddess held up a hand and pulsed orange and gold, Jade's equipment and clothes alongside her flesh and blood quickly rotted away as she was pushed back, if not for the Dog Talisman she would be dead and if not for the Horse she'd be half dead instead of healing at a slow but accelerated rate.

"Greed and Gluttony?" Jade asked as her exo-armour reformed. "She's already used Wrath, Envy and Sloth, we can assume that Pride and Lust are in her arsenal somewhere too." Tanya summarised as she prepared to spread out with Jade.

"I'm gonna need a bigger club." Of Course Katarina had shared her and Maple's discoveries and innovations with the rest of the Heroes, Goll and Demon, a command and control type Sacred Gear who uses and manipulates through curses, Myne, a fortress and army type Sacred Gear user, and Sakura, a flexible area of effect gear wielder, all refused.

Jade did not.

"Balance Break-" Eight Demon Chi's, after getting refined by the Demon Dragon and with her great uncle's knowledge of Chi magic combined with the Club of Chastity that Kuro had managed to cultivate Jade's weapon into becoming Chastity Jade was able to utilise them without the backlash of having parts of her personality mangled, for a while anyway. "Demon Sorcerers Descent!"

Jade's form inflated, taking on a draconic frame with four arms, a pair of wings and a fish like tail. The Mountain Demon's Chi increased her size yes but only so much, there was a limit to how much magic can inflate her form after all, even Toru had to turn half the city into a all you can eat buffet before his growth spurt kicked in. But it's been Jade's observation that so much of the Mountain Demon's frame is simply useless fat, besides the Square Cube laws is in effect: the bigger you are the more strength you need to manipulate your mass. No Jade comfortably slipped into the form of a forty foot tall Demon Sorceress, with her exo-suit on top of her frame further enhancing her strength, her club traded in for a pair of knuckle dusters.

"How long are you lot going to screw around!?" Jade growled as she looked up into the air. The sky cracked as the barrier of cursed energy's was broken through and the face of Red Hell peaked through, Myne and Sakura on his shoulders while Goll was seated on top.

"Archers!" Above hundreds of transformed therianthropes/jewels/Heroic Spirits were floating in the sky their weapons ready. "Fire!" At Myne's command, thousands of projectiles were released through the gap that Redhell had torn through the barrier and began pounding the Goddess with their projectiles.

"Oh please." The Black aura mixed in with a familiar orange, the projectiles from the archers soon rusted away before the could even reach the Goddess let alone strike her, they should probably assume that they'll be met with a similar fate if they enter Melee. The Good news was that Sloth's main weakness was that you can't move while using it. Eventually, especially if she continues with the Melee focused assault from before, then she'll have to start moving again.

"What the bloody hell are you waiting for!?" To Tanya's question Goll's mutt and the eight Card Spirits that Sakura summoned dropped into the gap while the flying penguin thing and overgrown pelican under Goll's command circled above. "The longer this goes on the more of our reinforcements are going to arrive!"

"That is the plan." The Goddess says bluntly. And then the ground shakes from a large impact. "Ah that would be the last of them now. You all wait here while I go get that." And then the Goddess disappeared, the barrier of cursed energy swelling to take in all the combatants in at once.

Kaede arrived in the middle of some battlefield, already people were looking at her in the same way that the members of her old guild would look at a raid boss, or to put it another way the same way that other players would look at her when they were getting ready to attack her. To them this was no different from NWO. No this was probably something even better, the people here were so much vastly more 'life like' and gave far better responses when they let their psychopathy run wild. Kaede had zero doubts as to exactly the kinds of people that Medea had 'recruited' into her army.

"Your attention please." That said she would still be the better person here, and if they refused that kindness? Well they can suffer the consequences of their own actions. "I am a Hero summoned to protect this world." Kaede used Dragon Vein to make a pillar of stone to sit on, she already had her entire body covered in her usual demonic black armour, so at the moment she looked exactly like another shield bearer that they were all sent here to find. "I give fair warning, Any Wives, Husbands, Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Daughters, Sons or people who simply do not wish to die may leave now. The rest of you: I will get to in a moment."

A good speech. A little wordy but necessary, if a single individual here could demonstrate the bare minimum self preservation to run away when faced with a enemy they could not defeat then Kaede could at the very least see the people across from her as human beings, as victims of the machinations of a mad woman that they rightfully were. Instead thousands of people swarmed at once, competing for the right to take the weapon of their Goddess's most hated enemy and present it to her for all the boons that doing so would bring them. Kaede could only sigh as the first one slammed into her invisible shield prison, the Dragon Vein illusion disappearing only to be replaced by a ball of five headed snakes. The Cloud of paralytics, poison, acid and a new contender, hallucinogenics quickly spread for miles. All the native residents of this world had been evacuated already, now there was nothing for miles other than immobile reincarnated who slowly lost their minds even as their god given regenerative abilities attempted to hold their melting bodies together. Death offered no reprieve, the Hallucinogenic Kaede had reinforced the shield with came directly from Alraune, a Noble Woman turned demon after committing suicide via Mandrake poison, the poison was so potent that even her very soul was stained by the ensuing madness, which now meant that Kaede had poisoned the souls of the reincarnated.

"The Goddess I presume?" A familiar figure appeared before Kaede, taking on the form of a red haired woman in a red dress. "You don't have to wear that face anymore. I already figured it out."

"Oh I wouldn't have expected anything less from his pride!" As the Goddess walked by her form changed, ironically enough matching that of Kaede's. "No talking to yourself must be a little awkward. Perhaps his Greed would be better?" As the Goddess passed Kaede by again she turned into a black haired blue eyed young man in black armour. Ren Amaki. "His Envy?" A tall Blonde haired Grey eyed young man dressed in red. Motoyasu Kitamura. "Sloth?" A short blonde haired teenager with green eyes. Itsuki Kawasumi. "Gluttony?" A blonde haired blue eyed little girl. Filo. "Lust?" A tall brown haired Tanuki woman. Raphtalia. "Or shall we stick to the Default Wrath?" And once again back to Malty. "What face do you think will hurt him the most when I crush his little girl's skull right in front of his eyes!?" The Goddess said the last words as she suddenly shifted to a murderous tone of voice.

"You're probably one of the biggest victims in all of this..."

"Don't you Dare pity me!" Kaede just looked up at the broken thing in front of her with sad eyes. "I created myself! I was born of the black tide that he puked up! I was born to torture and torment him for the rest of his days for all of eternity! Do you hear me!?" Naofumi, her father, was left with no other choice but to cultivate this sad broken thing here from the scars left on his soul from going through time over and over again, a final 'gift' from the goddess who had managed to erase herself. Naofumi might have chosen to revive the Goddess, but it was a choice he was led to as much as he led this thing into becoming what it is now. "Let's have a taste shall we?" A black rainbow aura combining all the powers of the Seven Sins appeared from the end of Medea's finger tips and was fired at Kaede in a red hot stream of countless curses, the raw destructive might of Wrath, Greed and Gluttony, the stat enhancing power of Lust, Envy and Sloth, most important of all, the mind altering power of Pride to make sure her target stayed put and took her medicine. "Stand right there and suffer the curses of all seven sins!" Kaede only let out a sigh as she was blasted with the powers of all seven of the sins. Normally Kaede is manipulating the flow of Ki around her to draw attacks towards her, right now she was pushing them away from her instead. None of her allies were here to get hit with the attacks either so it was even easier.

"Change Shield: Drum Shield." The shape of all the shields of Kaede's person transformed, retaining the same colours and patterns as they had before but now being changed into the shape of a leather drum. "Poison Burst!" The Souls of The Goddess's followers had been poisoned, and when they died they returned to her awaiting their reincarnation. With the sound of a fire cracker The Goddess's body released several pops as her very soul was ravaged by the explosions.

"That was a dirty Trick!" The Goddesses assault of sins finally stopped. However Kaede's attacks were just getting started as she hit the drums on her person with her hands.

"As Source of Thy Power, I am the Bearer of the Shield command you to make them bow down and Worship me~" Kaede's singing voice was quiet and melodic, like she was singing a sad song, it paired well with the deep notes of the bongo like drums she was playing. "I seek the Power and I'll rise~!" Magical power began circling the two as Kaede chanted her magic, the unity of the spoken magic she was familiar with and the musical magic of the world that had fused with this one. "They Bring me downwards but I'll rise~!" Kaede's voice was picking up now. "This life is not a game but we got to try~! Fighting every Wave Until the day I return to mine~!"

"What are you even doing!?" The Goddess was reeling, her bragging about Tanya giving her soul fragments back to her before Naofumi and the others got the chance to destroy them besides the point and together with the damage from the curse series and now Kaede's latest stunt she was taking a beating. "Do you think there's even a point in your struggling!?" The power picked up in pace as Kaede went through the Chorus of her song. "The Last time Your father had to max out his defence and turn my own attacks against me to even have a hope of beating me! What do you think you can do you miserable little girl!?"

"Are y'al against my name, even so I'll defend your lives, Either way the Shield Hero's always gonna rise~!" The Image of a monstrous turtle/dragon appeared behind Kaede as a particularly nasty spell was released: Rot X.

Rot was born of the unlikely mixture of Attack and Healing magic, a spell that doesn't enhance a weapon's damage dealing potential directly but rather exacerbates the damage already dealt. Kaede doesn't use it much outside of marbling meat as part of her cooking preparations, as she considers it too cruel to use.

"GAAHH!" The Goddess grabbed her chest as all the damage to her soul stacked up and ran wild at once, the damage further exacerbated by her very soul, one massive scar of soul fragments and the curse series, was rotted and rattled by Ki.

"It would appear that your barrier has given out now." Kaede stated and then the Goddess was sent flying. Jade finally sent the Bitch flying with a solid hit to her face, Sakura soon appeared off to the side animal ears resembling a lion's on top of her head while a cloak of barbarian fur and a massive stone axe was in her hands, delivering a second strike that threw Medea to the ground.

"Bitch burnt through the Curse Series!" Jade shouted as several of Katarina's stakes ripped through ground and skewered the Goddess. "Hit her harder!" By the time the Goddess got her eyes open again a massive energy blade from Kuro had come down on her, only the sacrifice of her arm spared her at the last second. Tanya's Arrow Rain, Myne's Heroic Monsters, Goll's and Demon's Four Kings, each of the Heroes rained attacks down on the goddess without giving her the chance to get up. The goddess attempted to siphon power directly from the earth itself, instead Kuro stabbed the Rule Breaker into her form with a fond look of irony severing all attempts to power herself up in the process.

"KYYYAAAHHH!" Finally, with a frustrated scream, the Goddess focused all of her power into a single barrier punching attack and escaped from that world, directly into the trap laid out for her by Eight Desperado's including Naofumi.

"Is it over?" Kuro asked while looking up at the sky at the shower of light that had started.

"Not for a hundred years at least." Raphtalia appeared a little way away from the Heroes. "They'll probably be up there at least that long." Raphtalia turned around to walk away, tilting her head and indicating for the girls to follow her. "But your job here is done. With Sixteen Vassal Heroes equipped with the Sacred Gears if she does try to escape down here, she's going to be in for a world of hurt." With that Raphtalia led each of the Eight Legendary Heroes back to their respective homes.
