Chapter 18—Why the hell do I have to take this class, I get plenty of studying Women done?
January 4th, 2000
Gunnar's POV
We had won against Blake 9-3, it felt good to be winners again. With thirteen games to go until the state playoffs. We were 8-2-1. Wow, thirteen games and that is the end of my high school career. I could not believe it. We Ducks all moved back into the dorms last night after the win. We got our last schedules this morning after breakfast.
I and Adam were sitting down at our lunch table, The Bash Brothers were between us and Charlie, Bella, Connie and Guy. Russ, Dwayne, Jessie, Julie, Goldberg, Averman and the rest of the Ducks on the team was down the rest of the table.
"What the hell is this?" Portman yelled when he got to the table.
"What the hell is what?" Russ asked.
"This eighth period Women's studies. I don't get why I have to be in this class," Portman grumbled .
"Because it's required, Portman duh!" Bella said.
Russ snorted.
"SHUT UP PRINCESS. You have no reason to speak," Portman said.
"Hey, we all have the right to speak," Charlie said.
"Yeah Portman," Adam said.
"Yeah who in the hell at this table has had this class already?" Portman said.
Everyone looked down at their plates and Averman slowly raised his hand.
"Well, that figures," Portman said.
"It's not that bad," Averman said.
"Yeah well, I am not going to turn anything in. Because there is no point that I need to study women because I get plenty of studying women done on my own time," Portman said.
"I'm with you," Guy said.
"Me, too," Charlie, Jesse, Russ, Ken, and Luis said.
"Oh GUYS!" Connie, Bella, and Julie said together.
"Dean if you don't turn anything in you won't graduate," Julie said.
"So," Portman said.
"If you don't graduate you will have stay here next year," Julie said.
"Then your dreams of the Air Force goes down the drain," Fulton said.
"Shut up, Fulton," Portman said.
"What's this about the Air Force?" Connie asked.
"Fulton doesn't know what the hell, he is talking about. I never applied with them. I have no idea what I am going to do," Portman said.
"But he plainly said Air Force. What is Fulton talking about?" Connie asked.
"It's none of your damn business Moreau," Portman said.
"But he very clearly said…." Connie started.
"CONNIE DROP IT!" Adam said.
I turned and held my mouth open agape. I could not believe that came out of my Adam's mouth.
"But" Connie said.
"Connie stop," Guy said.
"Okay. But this does not mean that the subject is over. After all enquiring minds want to know," Connie said.
"Here's my answer, Baby!" Portman said and then he let loose a fart.
"OH GOD, Portman!" The majority of us said.
I tucked my head into Adam's shirt. Until the offending odor had passed.
"Who's teaching this class anyway, Averman?" Guy asked.
"Dr. Barber is until Ms. MacK- I mean Mrs. Bombay comes back from maternity leave, next week. Then I don't know what will happen," Averman said.
"OH NO, Not Dr. Barber," Guy, Russ, Fulton, Charlie, and Goldberg all said together.
"I don't get it what happened?" Jesse asked.
"Well, it all started on the first day of school freshman year," Goldberg said.

Third Person POV
The bell rings, "Let's go, Let's go. You're late. Quit your dawdling in the halls. We have a lot to cover,' Dr. Barber said as the last of the students shuffled in through the doorway. 'Find a seat, quickly. My name is Dr. Barber, and this is Modern World History. When I call your name please say here. Allen Rebecca?"
"Here," Rebecca Allen said.
"Averman, Lester?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Averman said.
"Banks, Adam?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," mumbled Adam.
"Banks, Isabella?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Bella said.
"Brockmeier, Reese?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Present," Reese Brockmeier said.
"Chavez, Linda?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Linda said.
"Conway, Charles?" Dr. Barber asked.
"It's Charlie," Charlie said.
"Are you here or not Mr. Conway?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Yes, I'm here," Charlie said.
"Conway, Charles here, possible F student. Edwards, Lesley?" Dr. Barber asked.
"It's okay Charlie, relax," Fulton said.
"I'm starting to hate this school," Charlie said.
"Here," Lesley Edwards said.
"Gaffney, Julie?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Julie said.
"Germaine, Gay?" Dr. Barber asked.
"It's pronounced Gee, Guy Germaine," Guy said.
"Another possible F student. Mr. Germaine are you here or not?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Yes," Guy said.
"Goldberg, Gregory?" Dr. Barber asked.
"It's Greg and yes I am here," Goldberg said.
"Another possible F student. Higgens, Markus? Dr. Barber asked.
"Here and it's Mark not Markus," Mark said.
"Another possible F student. Hope, Jeremiah?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Jeremiah Hope said.
"Jones, Mackenzie?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Mackenzie Jones said.
"Mendoza, Luis?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Luis said.
"Miller, Jesse?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Jesse Miller said.
"Moreau, Constance?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here and it's Connie not Constance," Connie said.
"Another possible F student. Oh boy there is a lot of you this period. Nunnenkamp, Sarah?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Sarah Nunnenkamp said.
"Oakley, Eric?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Eric Oakley said.
"Reed, Fulton?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Fulton said.
"Smith, Annie?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Annie Smith said.
"Stewart, Natalie?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Natalie Stewart said.
"Tyler, Russell?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here and it's Russ," Russ said.
"Hmm…. Another possible F student," Dr. Barber said.
"And finally, Wu, Kenneth?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Here," Ken said.
"Good, on the front desk of every row is a textbook, everyone take one and pass it back and then take one of the syllabus and pass it back," Dr. Barber said.
Then he took a large book in one hand and a dwarf in the other hand. "Does anybody know why we must study Modern World History?' Dr. Barber asked. No one answered. 'No huh? Not surprising. Why must we study world history?" Dr. Barber asked as he walked down the aisle that had Linda, Greg, Ken, Connie, and Jesse Miller on the left and Jeremiah Hope, Rebecca Allen, Natalie Stewart, Lesley Edwards, and Sarah Nunnenkamp on the right. Heading for the back of the classroom
"To learn about the world?" Jeremiah said.
"Yes, Mr. Hope to learn about the world. Can someone tell me a brief history of the World?" Dr. Barber asked.
"Well, there was the big bang, dinosaurs, evolution and here we are," Fulton said and then he laughed.
"Hmm, you think you're funny Mr. Reed," Dr. Barber said.
"Jeeze," Goldberg said.
"It's been said: That the present is to the past. Like a dwarf on the shoulders of a giant. If the dwarf holds his seat, he can indeed see further than the giant. But beware if the dwarf should grow careless..' Dr. Barber said as he was coming up between the aisle that had Guy, Luis, Russ, Fulton, and Charlie on the left and Jesse Miller, Connie, Ken, Greg, and Linda on the right. He stopped at Fulton's desk and placed the Dwarf down. Charlie was rolling his eyes. 'and forget his place,' he slammed the book on the Dwarf.
"The Dwarf made a squeaking sound. Russ jumped slightly. "History is a giant. Get ready to ride," Dr. Barber said. Fulton had to stare at that Dwarf under the book as Dr. Barber walked away.
"Now if you will turn to page 5 of your syllabi. Please don't lose this, this is the ONLY copy you get," Dr. Barber said.
{End of Flashback}
"Jeeze he sounded hard from day one. I am glad we had Dr. Hanson for US History for 10th grade," I said.
"He was," Connie, Guy and Charlie all said.
"Wait a minute, Gunnar did you just say a prefect sentence in English?" Portman said.
"Yeah, I did. I have been practicing, during Christmas break," I said.
"What? When were you going to tell me Bella?" Charlie said.
"Charlie I had no idea.' Bella said and then turned to me, 'Good for you Gunnar it sounds perfect."
"Thank you," I said.
"So Banskie when does your mom come back from maternity leave?" Ken said.
"Next Monday. Then when Kelly comes home from the hospital, she said she will probably take 4 weeks off. To help Kelly get acclimated to being at home," Adam said.
Just then the 5-minute warning bell rang to let us know we had 5 more minutes of lunch.
So, What do you think? Please take 5 minutes and leave a review! Thanks in advance!
A/N 2: I want to wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
