Mourn - Katarina x Lux
Lux rushed through the corpses and soldiers battling, searching for the woman she called her lover.
She had managed to get Garen to swear that he would bring Katarina to the safer side of the battle between Noxus and Demacia, but that didn't mean he could instantly make that happen. Besides, she wanted to be sure that her beloved was safe with her own two eyes.
A Noxian soldier charged at her, bellowing a war cry. Lux quickly blasted him away with light energy, leaving him smoking as he collapsed to the ground. She continued to run, thinking of calling out for Katarina before quickly dismissing the idea. Demacians were already against her lover, she didn't need the Noxians against her as well.
She was stopped by a band of Noxian soldiers barrelling towards her, all cackling with glee as they saw their victim being a respectable member of the country they hated. Desperate, Lux unleashed a huge ray of light, killing all of them on the spot. Although this severely exhausted her, she willed herself to continue running, the only thing on her mind being Katarina.
Suddenly, a loud yell stopped her in her tracks, and Lux jumped back, narrowly dodging the Hand of Noxus, Darius. Darius snarled as he pulled his axe out of the ground. Lux tried to get up, but her movements were sluggish, her limbs feeling like jelly. As Darius approached, another cry pierced through the air.
"DEMACIA!" Garen screamed as he lunged at Darius, sword and axe clashing. Garen pushed Darius back before quickly turning to Lux. Lux knew what he meant. Get to her. Lux, using the last of her strength, got up and ran pass the two warriors as Garen lunged at Darius again.
Lux continued to dash through the battle. Where could Katarina be? Pausing for a while to catch her breath, Lux propped herself against a wall and tried to let the feeling of solidity back into her limbs. Around her, soldiers screamed, weapons clashed, bodies fell to the ground. Lux closed her eyes, trying to block the noises out and slow her breathing. However, the noises continued to havoc her head. Lux's breathing quickened, and she put a hand on her chest, as if trying to reassure herself that she was still alive.
A scream sounded through the air. Anyone would have assumed it was just another soldier getting killed, but the scream made Lux's blood run cold.
That was Katarina's voice.
Lux's grip on her baton tightened as she ran back to the battle. Her eyes darted around frantically as she tried to trace where the sound came from. Then she finally saw her.
Katarina lay on the ground, hand over her bleeding stomach while Fiora towered over her. "No, no, no." Lux repeated as she ran to them, pushing Fiora aside as she lay beside her fallen lover. The edges of Katarina's lips turned upward. "Hey babygirl." She greeted. "Kata, you're going to be alright, you're going to be fine." Lux started to ramble, as if she was trying to convince herself more than she was trying to convince Katarina. Tears brimmed at her eyes as she looked around desperately for any medical help.
"What is going on?" Fiora asked in disbelief, but Lux ignored her. Katarina slowly raised a gloved hand and caressed Lux's cheek. "Babygirl, frowns never went well on your face." Katarina's voice had dropped to a whisper now, which heightened Lux's desperation to save her lover. "You'll be alright." Lux said as she hugged the Sinister Blade in a tight embrace, as if letting her go would make her disappear. "Lux..." Katarina whispered, and Lux released her lover from the embrace, staring into Katarina's paling emerald eyes.
"I...ove...you..." Katarina whispered. "I love you too, I will always do. Just please don't leave me." Lux pleaded, but Katarina's eyes closed. Lux quickly placed her ear against the assassin's chest, silently pleading for a heartbeat.
She was met with nothing but silence.
Tears streamed down the Lady of Luminosity's face as she repeatedly said the word 'No' to herself. She placed her finger under Katarina's nose. She felt no air meet it. "Katarina please! Don't leave me!" She wailed as she cradled her lover's body. Fiora watched intently, stunned at what she was witnessing. Luxanna Crownguard, daughter of the Crownguard household, one of the most respected families in Demacia, involved in a relationship with the Sinister Blade? Sworn enemy of Demacia? This was all too much. Fiora turned and walked away, making a mental note to confront Garen about this later.
Lux continued to cry as she pleaded with Katarina to not go. But what's done is done, and there is no taking it back. Katarina, the only person who made Lux happy, was dead.
And all Lux could do was mourn.
