Disclaimer: I don't own anything of Harry Potter.

Note: Happy holidays! I wasn't sure if I wanted to write a story this year, something with being on holiday two weeks before, not in the Christmas spirit and also having a cold which is not inspiring, until I did an abba themed workout – yes, I did, and heard the song when I kissed the teacher so inspiration bloomed.

Title: when Harry kissed the Headmaster

Summary: Christmas at Hogwarts means snow, Christmas trees, glitter and mistletoe, but will Harry Potter use the opportunity to kiss the Headmaster?

Pairing: Harry Potter/Severus Snape

Warning: fluff, so much fluff

Plop

Frantic, Harry Potter glanced around the almost packed corridor for the tell-tale plop of mistletoe suddenly appearing. He wasn't sure who had placed the magic or if it was Hogwarts idea of fun to have mistletoe randomly appearing above an innocent student's head. For some random reason it was only the seventh- and eight-years students that were targeted, so anyone above the age of 17 and one shake of the poor victim's head or an other negative reaction and the mistletoe disappeared immediately.

It must be tied to someone desires or feelings; otherwise, how can the castle know if someone really gives consent or not? However, the inner workings of ancient magic must wait, Harry decided but for now he desperately tried to find the red jollied twig. Not that he was desperate to kiss anyone, well no more then usual but he had to know that he wasn't the intended victim.

Though be honest if you can kiss a certain someone then you won't say no.

Thoroughly sick of this conversation with himself Harry glanced around. He couldn't spot it. That was when he noticed that the red plant was actually floating above his own head. Fuck!

It didn't seem like anyone else had spotted it yet…but that was only a matter of time and Harry knew for certain he didn't want to kiss anyone who was in this corridor. He glanced around, trying to play it cool and began to slowly walk towards any of the doors that led to the empty classrooms. The last dinner before the Christmas holidays meant a packed Hogwarts, especially as the Headmaster had made it mandatory for everyone to attend the specially themed Christmas dinner. Harry was sure he could miss the first couple of minutes, usually the mistletoe disappeared if nobody kissed him.

"Potter!" The shout made Harry wince and sigh and everyone in the corridor looked at him. Harry resigned himself to his fate and decided perhaps it was better if he simply turned around to face the crowd. I have a better chance of defeating Voldemort a second time then to reach that classroom now.

A couple of females third year students and giggled at him. He dismissed them immediately and glanced around. The boys from sixth year Ravenclaw, if he was not mistaken, were eying him which made Harry do a double take but he glanced further. He knew the students were waiting for a sign from him to pick someone or dismiss the mistletoe. For days Harry had watched students grin in good humour and approaches had been made, mere pecks to deep dogs being exchanged and Harry had felt strangely jealous. He wanted that he realized but now that it was actually happening he did not just want to approach just anyone to make the mistletoe disappear.

His green eyes glanced around, desperately hoping to see a certain tall someone but of course not. Why would this ever play out in his favour?

Harry wasn't sure if he could wait the five minutes before the mistletoe disappeared. I am going to make the whole student body late for this fucking dinner…Snape will not be impressed and…why does this need to happen now? Also, can everyone just move along and let me stew in misery for this fucking plant to just disappear?

"Why is nobody moving?" Harry wasn't sure if the familiar sneer of Draco Malfoy was a blessing or a further curse, especially when the Slytherin pushed through the crowd and said. "Of course, it is fucking Potter…"

Harry wanted to just disappear. "I really wouldn't mind if you all could just move along…" He finally glared and muttered.

"I think they are waiting to see if they can be the chosen one." The comment from Draco made Harry bite back a laugh as he leaned his head back against the wall behind him. He spared a glare up at the merrily floating mistletoe that showed no signs of disappearing.

After the war when Harry and Draco were the only ones to return to Hogwarts to finish their education they had struct up a tentative friendship. It was a bit rocky at first but Harry began to enjoy Draco's company, especially when Ginny and Draco began dating during the summer and Draco became a new addition to many of Harry's, Ron and Hermione's summer wanderings and hikes as they took breaks from the many trials they helped with, rebuilding Hogwarts and deciding what they wished to do. There had been many tense afternoons, fights and almost curses between them all but in the end they had struct up a truce. Especially when Snape's and Lucius's trials showed a more complex relationship between all Slytherins then Harry had at first assumed. He knew about Snape's true allegiance but had not know that both Malfoy men had also started to actively work against Voldemort, through they had done it for more personal benefit then defeating a madman.

Harry had soon begun to realize that after he had defeated Voldemort many wizards and witches were looking at him to guide the new generation despite if he wanted to or not so Harry had also realized that he needed to set the example. So, he had struct up a friendship with Draco, which to much of his surprise had turned into a pleasant one.

"So, Potter, who shall it be?" The other man stepped in front of him with a smirk.

"I am just going to wait this one out…" He merely said, lowering his voice so only Draco could hear him. Mutters had started along the corridor and students were fidgeting but not moving.

"Yeah, right, how is that going for you?" Draco rolled his eyes.

"It isn't my fault the students are not moving on…"

"You are a celebrity for Merlin's sake, Potter! This is the chance many of them have been waiting for. Snape won't be impressed if the students are all late because of you. I thought you actually cared about his opinion and wanted to impress him." Harry's eyes narrowed in a glare. How the hell had Draco figured that one out?

"What are you suggesting then?"

"Do something about it. Find someone to kiss so we can all get to dinner."

"There isn't anyone I really want to kiss…." Harry bit back.

"Merlin, Potter, I am not asking you to spend your life with them. A friend will do… Then we can all move on."

The knut was not really dropping and Harry frowned at Draco until the other male said, moving closer with another eyeroll. A friend will do? What does Draco mean? Oh…

The oh turned into a soft sigh as Draco leaned in to press a kiss against his check. They both glanced up but the mistletoe was stubbornly holding on. Harry sighed deeply and glanced down to meet the grey eyes. "Guess that didn't work…"

"So, still want to wait this out?"

"Oh, sod this." Slipped his fingers in surprisingly soft blond hair, Harry pulled Draco closers to quickly kiss him upon the lips. It was a close-mouthed kiss that lasted maybe all about 5 seconds before with a plop and a deep, disappointed sigh from many students the mistletoe finally disappeared.

Harry and Draco broke apart and Harry grinned. "Thanks, that was appreciated….really didn't want to kiss someone random…"

"Especially when a certain Headmaster is not available to save you, Potter but you are welcome. I could not in good conscious allow Harry Potter to be mobbed due to some mistletoe, it would not have helped my reputation."

"Potter and Malfoy, what is the meaning of this?" They jumped apart at the deep voice of the Headmaster boomed through the corridor. It had the desired effect that the students began walking immediately, not wishing to invoke the man's temper. Harry glanced up at the tall thin figure that stalked towards them. He ignored the way his stomach flipped and his heart beat a little bit quicker. Severus Snape struck an imposing figure in his more form fitting black robes and all Harry wanted to do was jump the man. Though as the thin lips pressed into a scowl and those black eyes spitting fire Harry could not supress the tingle of desire that shot down his spine. He was so fucked.

"I was just helping a fellow student from being mobbed by the students in a corridor, Professor. Potter was a victim of the mistletoe curse." Draco straightened his robes as he stepped away. Snape's dark eyes glanced from Draco to Harry and the man then purred.

"And you thought that kissing Potter was the solution? I thought you were seeing miss Weasley."

"I am, sir and happily too but I could not pass up the opportunity to help a friend."

"Indeed…" Snape deadpanned and Harry decided to step in. Snape's dark eyes were narrowed and they seemed to promise instant death to anyone daring to approach them.

"Draco helped, Professor. I was in the middle of the corridor when the mistletoe appeared and well, I tried to reach a classroom but…."

"So, you mean to tell me that the great Harry Potter, who defeated a Dark Lord by using Expelliarmus could not make a branch of holly disappear?" Harry frowned and opened his mouth but Snape continued. "No, I think you wanted to be kissed!"

Harry did want to be kissed, by the very man talking to him, but Harry decided that this was not the moment to mention that, especially as Snape hissed. "This means detention, Potter…"

"Sir, for what reason?"

"For unwanted displays of affection in public…and impatience." Frowning at the reason Harry opened his mouth to protest when Draco stepped on his foot. Glancing quickly at the other Slytherin Harry saw the subtle shake and Harry swallowed his protest.

"Of course, sir…"

"Report to my office after dinner. Now get to the Great Hall, otherwise you will be in more trouble!" Biting back the snarl at how unfair it was, Harry merely nodded as Snape gave them one last glare and stalked away, fury in every line of his body.

"What the fuck was that all about? Bloody hell, the four students that almost got it on in the corridor between themselves and in various stages of undress did not even get any points deducted and I get detention for giving you a kiss?" Turning to Draco Harry was not prepared for the slight smirk. "And what the hell is wrong with you? You know that it was unfair."

"Oh yes, but then again Snape is not a man known to be fair, especially when it concerns you. No, I think you better hurry to the Great Hall before you are late and indeed, get into more trouble." The leer made Harry only more confused though he did indeed hurry to the Great Hall.

Slipping into the deserted Great Hall and closing the door behind him, Harry frowned when he didn't see anyone. The students had been milling about before the closed doors, some students complaining that Snape had stalked through and closed the doors behind him with a snarl. Knowing the Headmaster's wretched temper and not wishing to make the students pay for his own mistake, he had decided to slip in and see what the situation was.

Snape stalking up and down the row had not been it. Nor had he been expecting that the lights flashing on the trees were pulsing in time with the older wizard's magic. A flash of fear and arousal made it way down Harry's spine. He had rarely seen the older wizard lose control like this…

"Sir…" He began and Snape turned to face him. He was prepared to apologize but surely the older wizard knew he was far from fair.

"Yes, Potter?" The growl of his name did funny things to Harry's stomach.

"I…what did you mean when you gave me detention for impatience? Surely you know that the mistletoe doesn't just simply disappear if I did nothing…."

"You could have waited until I had passed the corridor before snogging Mr Malfoy…."

Oh, that I was not expecting…

"But sir…I was not snogging Draco….It was merely a kiss between friends.."

"So, you kiss all your friends on the lips, do you, Mr Potter?" The snarl and the way the dark eyes narrowed made Harry swallow and luck his lips. As the dark eyes followed the movement Harry began to understand something of why Snape was so angry… "Well, Potter, answer the question."

Before he could even open his mouth to answer there was another loud pop and Harry closed his eyes as he sighed. Not again…

He glanced up but there was no mistletoe over his head instead…it was floating merrily above Snape. The Headmaster, in all his anger, must not have noticed. "Sir…"

"Potter, answer the damn question…" The other man crossed his arms over his chest and despite the forbidden figure he struck Harry swallowed thickly. He knew what he needed to do and honestly this was the opportunity he had been waiting for.

"Sir, perhaps I was remiss in not waiting until a more suitable candidate presented himself to be kissed but you see, when there is mistletoe involved, a certain speed must be adhered to…"

Now Snape looked confused and Harry took a step closer as he continued. "But unless you mind, I will take this opportunity to make it up to you."

"What do you mean?" Snape glanced down at him. He still had not noticed so Harry grinned up at him as Harry came to stand before him.

"Mistletoe, sir." Harry used the opportunity to slide his arm over the scarred neck and tug Snape's head down as he placed a quick peck against the older wizard's lips. With a satisfied plop the mistletoe disappeared. Harry could feel each breath Snape took and smell the coffee on the man's breath as it caressed his face. His green eyes sought the dark eyes and then Snape purred.

"So, this is how you kiss your friends, Potter?"

"No, sir, I don't think we are friends…" It was something Harry would like to see changed into the future.

"No indeed, we are not friends, so let's see how you kiss a future lover…" Before Harry had time to even understand the sentence Snape lowered his head to capture his lips in a deeper kiss, especially as Harry gasped and the Headmaster made use of the opportunity to slide his tongue in. Harry moaned, brushing his tongue against the wicked one that invited him to dance.

The next moment his legs hit the nearest bench and instead of stumbling backwards Snape did something incredibly arousing. Harry was lifted onto the table as the kiss deepened and Harry cared less as plates, glasses and cutlery fell to the floor. He only wanted more of this kiss, more of what Snape was giving him.

Wrapping his arms around the man's broad shoulders Harry kissed him back enthusiastically. The need for breath forced them apart. Feeling shy suddenly Harry glanced up. The dark eyes caught his and Harry softly said. "So, what brought this on?"

A dark eyebrow lifted and then Snape said. "If you need to ask still then I must be doing something wrong…"

"You were jealous? Of Draco? But he is dating Ginny…."

"Merlin how did you survive the Dark Lord is beyond me if you are this obtuse. I believe I just told you." Feeling his face heat Harry glanced down before lips brushed his forehead and Snape continued. "It is a good thing I do find most of your qualities endearing, brat…."

Harry's eyes narrowed into a glare before the knut dropped and he said. "You like me?"

His lips were caught again in a deep kiss and then Snape purred. "Like is a strong word….I desire you, find most of your qualities endearing and I am willing to put in the time and effort to see where this can lead…."

"Just say it, you like me." Teasing Snape had never come easy but as he was kissed breathlessly again Harry realized that perhaps bringing out Severus' more passionate side was a benefit. The dark eyes were heated as they narrowed and Harry grinned as he stole another kiss and said.

"Don't worry, you only have to say it in private, I won't ask that you say it in public, not yet at least."

"You are an impertinent brat, Mr Potter."

"I thought you liked my more impertinent sides, especially seeing that it got me to here." The other man exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of his nose before the Headmaster said. "I will admit that it has helped move things along…Now I believe there has been enough talking…"

This kiss was slightly more heated and Harry moaned. He never really got to find out what else Severus had in mind as the doors to the great hall banged open and Professor McGonagall walked in. "Headmaster, what is the meaning of this delay of dinner and why are the doors closed?..Harry….what are you doing here?"

"Sorry, Professor….I was helping Headmaster Snape with a mistletoe problem."

"On the Gryffindor table?" Harry grinned at his head of house and shrugged.

"I can't help that he is rather taller then I am…I had trouble reaching." Snape snorted and then straightened, one hand catching Harry's shoulder and said.

"Minera, Potter was indeed helping me with an issue that needed resolving which took slightly longer then I would have liked." The heated glance thrown his way made Harry flush before the Headmaster continued. "However, Mr Potter still has a detention to serve."

Harry wanted to protest because it was really unfair that he had to serve a detention, especially in light of recent developments. A hand dropped down to his hip to squeeze and Harry realized that perhaps serving this particular detention would not be a such a bad thing. He slid to the edge of the table.

"Headmaster, it is Christmas."

"Indeed, but Mr Potter did break the rules. So, no Christmas dinner for him, instead he can serve his detention with me in my office."

"Yeah, Professor, I…I kissed the Headmaster so all consequences will be mine." He tried to sound guilty but he rather thought he was pushing it. The bark of laughter made him realize he was fooling no one.

"I see…"Professor McGonagall sounded as though she was hiding her laugh before she straightened and said with a stern look at Snape. "I suppose you wish to slither out of dinner and instead use your time for other pressing engagements."

Much to Harry's surprise Snape flushed before he rolled his eyes to the ceiling and muttered. "Bloody Gryffindors."

Deciding to take pity, Harry jumped down from the table and took Snape's arm as he said. "Come, I know of a couple of ways that make you think rather more fondly of one particular Gryffindor."

Satisfied with the arm that pulled him closer and Snape murmuring. "I am sure you can show me some other sides then only your impertinent one, Mr Potter, that will also draw out my more passionate one." And as they walked through the Great Hall and into the students looking to see what was up with their Headmaster and Harry Potter, Harry realized kissing the Headmaster may have been the best decision in a while.

I hope you liked it. Happy new year and the best wishes for 2024 with hopefully more stories.
