I wrote a present for xxxx as a Secret Santa this year and here's a present for everyone.
Last week, I was sitting by my computer, looking out the window at the rain. I was reminded of the scene in The Wizard of Oz. You know the one, Dorothy dumped water on the GREEN SKINNED Wicked Witch and she melted away.
I had a crazy thought of how traumatic that would be to a BLUE SKINNED warlock child. (Because I live to torment Malec and their kids)
That thought became this fanfic.
Enjoy.

An ear-piercing scream has Alec reaching for his seraph blade as he jumps out the bed. He finally got home and fell asleep two hours ago, but now he's wide awake and ready to kill whoever is harming his daughter.
Magnus is right on his heels as Alec runs out their bedroom and goes into Maxine's room.
He looks around and sees nobody to attack.
Four year old Maxine is sitting up in her bed. Her blue eyes are half closed, but tears are rolling down her face. She takes a deep breath then screams again.
Alec lays his blade on the floor as he sits on the bed. He pulls Maxine onto his lap.
She tries to push him away as she screams again.
He realizes that she's actually saying something. It sounds like "I'm melting." Shaking his head, he again tries to pull her close. She continues to fight him.
Magnus stands by the doorway, not sure if he should try to comfort her since Alec is having problems.
Alec gently takes her face in his hands. He whispers, "Blueberry, it's me, Daddy. You're safe."
She blinks as tears continue to run down her face, "Daddy?"
"Yes, Maxine."
She sobs as she buries her face in her father's tshirt and holds him tight, "I was melting, Daddy."
He pulls her into his lap and wraps his arms tight around her, "Melting?"
"Uh huh."
"From what?"
"Water, Daddy."
"Water was melting you?"
"Uh huh."
Magnus joins them on the bed. He rubs her back and strokes her hair.
Alec looks at Magnus over their daughter's head, "What is she talking about?"
"She was watching Wizard of Oz."
"And?"
"The Wicked Witch of the West got hit with water and she melted away."
"And?"
Magnus thinks for a few minutes then closes his eyes as he whispers, "She had green skin."
"By the angel Magnus, why the heck would you let Maxine watch that?"
"It's a classic, Alec."
"Whatever Magnus, we'll discuss the movies you allow my daughter to watch some other time." He holds Maxine's face in his hands and wipes away her tears, "Blueberry, it was only a movie."
"But if it can happen to a lady with green skin, it can happen to me."
Alec kisses her nose, "You take baths all the time, and nothing happens."
"I think it was rain water, Daddy."
Alec nods, "You go out in the rain, and nothing happens."
"But Daddy, it was probably magic water."
"I see. So who put magic in it?"
"Dorothy."
"Is Dorothy a warlock?"
Maxine shakes her head, "No."
"Is she a Seelie?"
"I don't think so."
"Then how do you know it was magic water?"
Maxine shrugs, "Don't know."
"Ok, then maybe this witch was allergic to water and that is why she melted."
"Maybe, Daddy."
Alec smiles, "Are you allergic to water?"
Maxine shakes her head, "No, Daddy."
"Then you have nothing to worry about. Right?"
Maxine slowly nods then smiles, "Right, Daddy."
"Okay then, how about sleeping with Poppa and me tonight, just to make sure everything is ok?"
Maxine giggles, "Okay, Daddy." She hugs him and kisses his cheek. She turns around, "Okay, Poppa?"
Magnus nods, "Yes, Maxine." He hugs her tight.
Alec picks up his blade as he stands up, "Let's go back to sleep."
Maxine slides off her bed and runs out the room.
Magnus stands, as they follow Maxine he asks his husband, "You never saw the movie?"
Alec rolls his eyes, "Really, Magnus? I was either here with you or training to be a Shadowhunter, so when was I supposed to have seen this or any movie?"
"Good point."
They walk into their bedroom. Maxine is already in the center of the bed. Magnus and Alec get in, on either side of her. She snuggles against Alec's side without opening her eyes.
Magnus chuckles to himself as he kisses her forehead, "Sweet dreams, blueberry."
She whispers, "Thank you, Poppa."
Alec and Magnus face each other, with their daughter safely in between them and go back to sleep.

Alec steps out of a portal provided by Magnus. He puts his phone in his back pocket as he asks, "What's the emergency?" He stops when he sees Maxine standing by the balcony door. She's staring outside and he can see she's trembling.
It's raining out.
Alec glances at Magnus, "I thought we cleared this up?"
Magnus shrugs, "I guess not."
Alec nods as he walks over to their daughter and kneels by her. He gently turns her face towards him, "Blueberry, everything okay?"
She shakes her head as she tries to look back out the door, but Alec pulls her closer. She whispers, "It's raining, Daddy."
"Yes, I know."
She starts to cry, "I'm scared."
He gently brushes away her tears then kisses her nose, "You trust me, blueberry?"
Even through her tears, her eyes widen in shock, "Of course, Daddy."
"And you know, I would never hurt you."
She rolls her eyes at the thought of her Daddy harming her, "Dah."
Alec smiles, "Good. Go get your raincoat, we're going for a walk."
"Outside?"
"Yes, outside."
"In the rain?"
"Yes, Maxine."
She stares at him for a moment then asks, "Poppa too?"
Alec is confused for a minute then realizes that she also fears for Magnus' safety. He quickly glances at Magnus, who nods in understanding, then smiles, "Yes, Poppa will join us."
"Okay."

Magnus stands by the door to the building and looks at the rain falling down. He wants to make a joke to lighten the mood but a quick glance at the fear in his daughter's blue eyes and the seriousness in his husband's brown eyes, changes his mind.
One of the many things that he loves about Alec, is his patience with Maxine. Whatever insecurities or fears that she has had in her short life are no match for her Shadowhunter father's love.
If she's afraid of rain water, then he will do everything in his power to help her overcome it. And Magnus will as well.
Magnus leans down and kisses her forehead, "This is going to be okay."
She gives him a weak smile, "Maybe."
Magnus zips up his rain slicker then adjusts the matching hat on his head. He winks at his husband and daughter as he opens the door and walks out the building.
It's the beginning of July, so it's not cold and the slicker is just to keep dry. Magnus strides down the street, showing Maxine there is nothing to fear.
Or so he hopes.
Alec and Maxine watch Magnus walk away from the building.
Alec smiles at his daughter, "Whenever you're ready, Maxine."
Maxine grips his hand tight in both of her tiny hands and nods, "Okay, Daddy." She holds her breath as she watches Magnus go down the street, unharmed. She moves closer to the window to watch her father's progress until he turns the corner. She looks up at Alec, "Now, Daddy."
Alec smiles, "You want me to go out first?"
"Can we go out together?"
"Of course." He leaves his slicker open, but pulls the hood over his head. Maxine's slicker is zipped up. Alec pulls the hood over her head. With a smile he says, "Let's do this."
She nods as he opens the door and they walk out into the rain.
She holds his hand with her right and puts her left hand out. She watches as rain hits her hand and bounces off.
They walk down the block. She starts to giggle as the rain continues to bounce off her outstretched hand. She glances up at her father.
Alec winks at her, "Was I right?"
She stops and hugs him, "Yes you were."
He laughs, "Now let's catch up to Poppa."
She giggles as she runs to the corner. She looks in the direction that she saw Magnus turn and sees her father leaning against a lamppost.
He winks at her, "Well hello there. You don't look melty to me."
Maxine giggles, "I'm not melty. Daddy was right." She runs up to Magnus and hugs him.
"Speaking of your Daddy, where is he?"
"I'm right here." Alec walks over to them.
Magnus kisses him, "Hello, husband."
Alec smiles, "Hello, husband."
"Can we go inside now?"
Alec looks at their daughter, "Maxine, are we good?"
She nods, "Yes, we are good."
Alec winks at her, "How about we go around the block, just to make sure?"
She giggles, "Okay."
Magnus sighs, "Fine." He reaches for Alec's hand, "But now I'm holding Daddy's hand, you go ahead."
"Okay, Poppa." She skips in front of her fathers. She giggles as she jumps into puddles.
Magnus smiles as they follow her, "I hope this puts an end to this."
Alec nods, "It should. Until the next movie you let her watch that traumatizes her."
"In my defense Alexander, Wizard of Oz is a classic."
"A mundane classic, Magnus."
"She loves Monsters Inc, which is also a mundane classic."
"It has monsters, not green skinned people who could be mistaken as warlocks to a four year old warlock."
Magnus nods, "True."
They hold hands and silently follow Maxine for a few minutes. She stops and turns around every now and then to make sure they are still there. She waves and giggles then resumes running and jumping in puddles.
Magnus glances at Alec, "You know if we get sick because of this, it's all on you."
Alec laughs, "Warlocks can get sick from being in the rain?"
"No, but I'm just saying."
"Fine. I'll take full responsibility."
"Good."
"Then again, it would be nice to take care of you for a change."
Magnus snorts, "You don't want that. I'm not a nice person to be around when I'm sick."
Alec smiles, "And it was a picnic when I got the flu?"
"Well once Catarina explained things to me, it was a picnic."
Alec laughs, "Catarina told me something different."
Magnus sniffs, "She is a lying liar that lies."
"Oh really? Well maybe you should say that to her."
"I will say no such thing."
Alec laughs, "All these years and you are still scared of her."
Magnus nods, "Aside from myself, nobody is more protective of you, then her. So if that makes me scared of her, then guilty as charged."
Alec stops, "And here is your sentence." He pulls Magnus close and kisses his husband.
Magnus smiles, "Kissing in the rain, so romantic." They kiss for a few minutes.
Maxine looks back and giggles at her fathers kissing. She runs back to them and tugs on Alec's slicker, "Daddy, can we go inside, please?"
Magnus sighs, "So much for romance."
Alec laughs, "Sorry, Magnus." He smiles down at their daughter, "Had enough?"
She nods, "Yes, I'm getting a little cold."
Magnus nods, "I told you."
Alec rolls his eyes at his husband then smiles down at Maxine, "C'mon blueberry, let's go home. " He and Maxine hold hands as they walk down the block.
Magnus looks up at the sky, "What just happened? Once again, I get left behind all by myself."
Alec stops and turns around. His brown eyes are deadly serious, "I would never leave you."
Maxine shakes her head, "Never ever, Poppa."
Magnus smiles and silently thanks Mistress Destiny for blessing him. He runs and joins them. He kisses Alec then reaches for Maxine's hand.
They walk the rest of the way to their building.
The End

Since these are written out of order, there are a lot of callbacks AND call forwards.
Especially regarding who is more protective of Alec. And it's neither Magnus or Catarina.
Merry Christmas everyone.
