Kevin was right on the money when it came to the left side of his collarbone. Not only was the left side of his collarbone broken, his left arm was dislocated. And his back and ribs were bruised. The doctors had to undo the dislocation by reconnecting Kevin's left arm with his socket, and then they had to put a cast that connected his collarbone with his left arm. They also bandaged the scrape on Kevin's forehead, which wasn't too serious. The first person they contacted was, surprisingly Alfred. The faithful butler was smart enough to contact Andrea and Bruce, and the moment Andrea heard that her son was in the emergency room, she used her teleportation powers to teleport to Gotham so that she could see her son.
The doctors were able to fix Kevin up in an hour and now he was in a hospital room, lying on a bed. Andrea was by his right side, comforting him. He was in tears, because he was still thinking about Barbara after she had left. Andrea was gently stroking Kevin's face as she softly said, "I know, Kevin… I understand what heartbreak feels like… I know it hurts… I'm here now…" Kevin sniffled and said, "I was so close to saving her, Mom… I just want to be with her right now, and to know if she loves me back…" Andrea cupped Kevin's face and said, "and you are brave for reaching out to her like that. What was it they said on Doctor Who? Better to fail doing the right thing as opposed to succeeding doing the wrong thing?" Kevin nodded and said, "yeah The War Doctor said that in the 50th anniversary special." Andrea smiled sadly and said, "I thought so." Suddenly, Kevin's father Bruce came inside with his half brother Damian, both in their civilian clothes. "Kevin, who did this to you?!?!?" Damian asked with genuine concern, "was it Barbara? Harleen? Selina, or Isley?"
"We came as soon as we could," said Bruce, "Damian and I were held up because we had to safely transport Talia to the ARGUS division in Gotham. Kate, Cassandra, and Stephanie have all been infected, but they've managed to regain control of their humanity despite their new appearances." Bruce and Andrea noticed each other, this had been the first time they had seen each other in nearly 26 years. "Andrea…" Bruce said in realization. Andrea stood up and said, "I, uh, hello Bruce… I can leave if you want me to…" Bruce shook his head and calmly said "no, stay. Our son needs the both of us now." Andrea sat back down, feeling hopeful at the chance that maybe, just maybe, she and Bruce could reconcile for good this time. "What happened?" Bruce asked his son. "I tried to reason with Barbara," explained Kevin, "and I was so close, Dad. I got through to her, and I was ready to tell her my feelings for her, but then Bane attacked me from behind." Damian looked at Kevin's cast and asked, "Bane did this to you?" Kevin nodded and said, "yeah, the last thing I saw after I hit the wall, scraped my forehead, and landed flat on my back was Bane. I then blacked out." Bruce was able to put it altogether and replied, "your story adds up to what happened later. We can assume that Barbara fought Bane to protect your well-being. Because Blackgate found Bane paralyzed from the waist down when they took him into custody." Kevin smirked and said, "I think she just did to Bane what Bane did to you all those years ago. How does that irony feel?"
"I say it feels fitting that Bane be destroyed by the very power he sought," said Damian, "and the irony is quite fitting. I respect Gordon for defeating Bane that way." Bruce stood closer to Andrea and said, "from one point of view, Barbara's actions are not to be condoned. But from another point of view, her actions are also understandable. I can't say that Bane didn't have what was coming to him, and after being on the receiving end of his brutality, part of me does feel relieved that Bane won't be hurting anyone anymore." Kevin softly laughed, "I guess I can join the club on getting my ass handed to me by Bane." He then winced in pain and said, "guess it does hurt when I laugh." Damian gave his famous *tt* sound and replied, "you should focus on recovering."
"Oh where are my manners?" Kevin rhetorically asked, "Mom, I'd like to introduce you to my half-brother, Damian Wayne. Damian, this is my mother, Andrea Beaumont." Andrea looked at Damian and said, "well it's nice to meet you. You look just like your brother when he was that age. I could bring my photo album to compare." Damian shook Andrea's hand and said, "it's nice to meet you too, Andrea. I can see where Kevin gets some of his facial features from, especially the hair. And you have a photo album that features Kevin when he was younger?" Andrea smiled and said, "I sure do. Kevin was such a cutie when he was a kid!" As Damian and Andrea got to know each other, Bruce asked Kevin, "are you going to be alright? I promise, I'll make sure you're able to recover quickly." Kevin looked at his father and said, "The scrape on my forehead, the bruises, and my broken bones will eventually heal. Physically, I'll be okay, Dad. But as for my heart? It's going to take a long time before my heart's going to be okay again…"
