Chapter 4: Like a Family: Fun in Hawaii

Partial spoilers from Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name ahead!

On the third day, Kiryu is feeling better and Haruka is happy for him. They're at the balcony once again and Haruka said to him, "Hey, we gotta look around the other parts of the Hawaiian Island to not only learn about the state of Hawaii, but also for fun. Why don't we go to another part of Hawaii: Kauai. Can we go fishing there, Kiryu-chan? Please?".

Kiryu then looks up the phone and says, "Wonder where's that at…", and he sees one of the islands that's west of Honolulu. Kiryu then checked the price of a flight…and looked up the rest of the trip on Kauai.

Kiryu then said, "Alright, but we gotta take a flight once again and take a bus from there. We must come back here in the evening because the hotels that I looked up…it's too expensive and honestly, I am slowly running out of money, Haruka-chan.".

Haruka then looked sad and sheepishly replied, "...sorry Kiryu-chan. I didn't mean to make the Hawaii trip so difficult…", and blushed out of embarrassment.

Kiryu patted her head and said, "It's okay Haruka-chan…I just want all of us to be really happy at the end of our trip in Hawaii. I'll help you, Haruto, and Kimura get back to this hotel if I have to when you're feeling tired, Haruka-chan…".

Haruka giggled at that idea and said, "Oh, Kiryu-chan. You don't have to do that. I'll save some of my money if it means to make the trip less difficult Kiryu-chan…", and the two were smiling at each other for a moment before catching a flight to Kauai Island.

After fishing, everyone in the family was discussing fishing. Haruka said, "I can't believe that you've caught a large Yellowfin Tuna for today, Kiryu-chan. I'm so glad that we've gone fishing together at Wailua for fun. We've caught a lot of fish today, Kiryu-chan.".

Haruto said, "Yeah, I had a lot of fun daddy! I like to catch those fishes!".

Kimura added, "Me too! I like to learn how to fish and fishing is for fun!".

Kiryu looked happy to everyone and said to her, "Well, I'm glad that I've gone fishing in my spare time. Even in the old days of Okinawa and Nagasugai, I'm enthusiastic about fishing here in Hawaii as well, Haruka-chan. I'm glad that we all went fishing together because it's reminding me of our old days together in Okinawa.".

Haruka then added, "And speaking of Okinawa, why don't we just go swimming together at Paliku Beach? I might have a surprise for you and I know you'll like it…Kiryu-chan.".

Kiryu blushed in surprise and for a moment, he was wondering if Haruka really remembered that awkward moment in Okinawa. Kiryu replied, "Uh…yeah! Let's have some fun at the beach, Haruka-chan!", and try to look excited instead of looking nervous. Haruka nodded silently…

The four were at the Hukilau Lanai Restaurant, and Haruka questioned, "Admit it, Kiryu-chan. I know that you still have something in your pocket that's between your legs and I completely get it back then…you've liked me a lot more than you think. Well, here's my answer: Yes, I like you now and I liked you back then as well.".

Kiryu groans quietly in defeat and admits, "Yeah, I'll admit it, I have a strong feeling when you put on your smallest swimsuit that I've seen yet. It was much more than expected and it DOES make me like you a lot more than I intend to feel…you bought that at Wal-Mart didn't you?".

Haruka giggled and answered, "Yep, I sure did when I had extras leftover and I didn't regret purchasing it. I did NOT forget about your first reaction when we were in Okinawa for the first time…you lied to me about it and I wasn't too happy when I learned more about that. I'm glad that you're overall still interested in me for this reason alone Kiryu-chan.", and she glared at him.

Kiryu nervously chuckled and said, "Yeah…sorry about that Haruka-chan. I wasn't sure if I could've responded that way when we're in a completely different relationship between us back then. I would've thought it wasn't the time to do so and hoping that you've forgotten about this when you're older, Haruka-chan.".

Haruka replied, "I forgive you Kiryu-chan. Let's hope that we can be open with each other this time and not be scared about it. I've gotten involved in the 'Ninkyo Dantai' thanks to you, Kiryu-chan.". Kiryu silently nodded towards Haruka and the food that they ordered was put down by the waiters.

Kiryu thanked those waiters in English and they ate their dinner. After that, they had to take the bus in order to get on the flight back to Honolulu.

Long story short, the three were back in the hotel and they put Haruto and Kimura to bed. After all of that, Kiryu and Haruka went to bed and slept together for the night once again.

The next morning, Haruka and Kiryu were discussing with each other about the trip while Haruto and Kimura were sleeping on the taxi's seat next to each other. Haruka requested, "Okay Kiryu-chan, today, let's go to another Hawaiian Island: Maui. I wanted to do some snorkeling according to the website. I want to see some live fish underwater.".

Kiryu agreed, but he added, "Haruka-chan, I've got to be honest with you: I'm concerned about not having enough money to do all of these things because the activities and restaurant that we've spent on were very expensive. I just want to let you know that this could be the last activities and restaurants that we're going to do because of that.", and both of them ended up arguing about the financial stances on their vacation in Hawaii.

After about 10 minutes of an argument, they've come up with a compromise solution to Kiryu's financial problem: They're going snorkeling in Maui, then fly to the Big Island to see a volcano as a basic activity, and then fly back to their hotel in Oahu. Both weren't too happy about the decision that they've made though, but it has to be done for the sake of family.

Kiryu thought, "Oh man, I wish I'd saved up more money before going to Hawaii. I thought I managed it, but I guess I didn't realize that it was THAT expensive to spend on a vacation in Hawaii. If I want to hang out with Haruka-chan again, I gotta make sure I have some money saved up next time just so she likes me…I wanted her to know that I give her life just so I could be doing a favor for Yumi in the afterlife.".

Haruka thought, "I guess I've demanded a lot from Kiryu-chan. To be fair, I owe him for my life when my mom died. I should've been a little more careful about what Kiryu-chan could spend on me…however, he was willing to spend a lot of money for me up to that point. I'm guessing he's trying to be the best adopted father that he could be, but I wanted him to be just as happy as spending time with me on a general basis and help me take care of Haruto and Kimura too.".

All of them left the hotel once again and they boarded the flight to Maui.

In Maui, Kiryu bought the snorkels for both of them and explained how snorkeling works to Haruka. Kiryu told her, "When you dive, you have to make sure that you're not touching any fish. Otherwise, they'll force you to go back up. Do you understand, Haruka-chan?".

Haruka said, "Yes, Kiryu-chan. I understand. Thank you for telling me about that, Kiryu-chan. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be diving underwater.", and she puts the snorkel on and dive underwater. Kiryu is looking after Haruto and Kimura while she's diving to see the fishes in the ocean. The children will get their turn.

When Haruka's done diving, Haruka has risen up from the water and Kiryu gazed at Haruka in awe while she's walking towards him wet. Haruka noticed Kiryu's gaze and said, "Alright, it's your turn Kiryu-chan. Ah, I know that look when you see me wet…it means that you really like me. I'm very happy to see you with that look. Don't worry, I'll take care of Haruto and Kimura while you go diving in the ocean, okay Kiryu-chan?".

Kiryu replied, "Okay, Haruka-chan. I'm ready to go on a dive and into the ocean. You'll see what I can get from under there. And, uh, yeah. You're kind of hot honestly…", and Haruka blushed after that statement. Kiryu then put on his snorkel and dive into the ocean while Haruka was taking care of Haruto and Kimura in his place.

After everyone's done with diving, they were preparing to go to the biggest island in Hawaii, and they're taking another flight to go there.

During the preparation before the flight, Kiryu talks to Haruka about the time that he actually had experience diving because he was spearfishing in Onomichi.

Kiryu explained, "Yeah, I was spearfishing in Onomichi because the one who used to work there was at an elderly age that got injured and they needed someone young like me…I had to accept their offer. I've encountered: Emperor Squid, Delicious Octopus, and that Bloody Shark. Overall, that's how I learned to dive Haruka-chan.".

Haruka awed and replied, "So that's what you're doing in Onomichi while I was being knocked out. It's nice to know that you still have a good heart in you for the people. Honestly, you look like you can do anything in life when you get a second chance. I'm proud of you Kiryu-chan.".

Kiryu blushed and said, "Thanks Haruka-chan. I'm glad that my experience of people has gotten me off with less problems compared to what the 'Ninkyo Dantai' has done to me in these past years…all I can say about them is that it's complicated when conflict arises.", and Haruka completely agrees with Kiryu.

After their conversation, they then got on the flight and stayed quiet for the rest of the trip. When the flight's over, they were in another taxi before arriving at Hawaii Volcano National Park in the evening where they're enjoying the sunset together as a family.

During the sunset, Kiryu decided to do the unthinkable. Kiryu asks, "Haruka-chan…there's something that I wanted to ask you…this is a serious one from me.".

Haruka's eyes widened and said, "What…what is it, Kiryu-chan?", and Haruka looked nervous due to having concerns about Kiryu's still having some serious business with the Tojo Clan once again and needs her to make sure that Haruto's taken care of.

Kiryu instead takes out something from his pocket. It was a small box…and he opens up to reveal that it has an engraved platinum ring that has the name "YUMI" engraved in it.

Kiryu said, "Haruka-chan…it's been years since I felt like I'm with someone who I love. Recently, I've finally confessed my feelings to you and…I just think it's natural for me to feel this way when I'm not in the 'Ninkyo Dantai' as much as I used to be. Will…will you marry me Haruka-chan?".

Haruka's eyes widened and she gasped for a moment, then Haruka said, "Yes! Yes I will marry you Kiryu-chan! You've earned my trust for a long time!", and she kissed Kiryu on his lips. Kiryu felt the same and they did this for a few moments before going back to watching the sunset.

Haruto and Kimura were clapping their hands. Haruto congratulates them while Kimura tells them that she approves of this.

They're back at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort after they've visited the Hawaii Volcano National Park. Kiryu, Haruka, and Haruto were feeling quite tired after a long trip. As usual, they put Haruto and Kimura to sleep and they themselves get prepared to go to bed.

Kiryu and Haruka were feeling quite close together…but they're never been that close to the point where Kiryu felt like he had exceeded his love of Haruka over Yumi for the first time. Haruka felt like Kiryu could not only be a better adopted father, but also be a better man.

On the fifth day, Kiryu and Haruka were once again discussing with each other with Haruto and Kimura being there as usual. Haurka requested, "Okay, Kiryu-chan. Since we've argued about financial problems yesterday, why don't we just go to McDonalds and eat some of their exclusive food on their menu at breakfast time…please? It's not expensive, I promise you.".

Kiryu nodded and added, "Okay, but remember, we have to buy all the clothes for everyone today just so that we can prepare ourselves for tomorrow. It's an important day Haruka-chan and I don't want you to forget about it unless one of us has to call it off, alright?". Haruka nodded and they went there.

At McDonalds, Kiryu was having Saimin McDonald's Ramen while Haruka's eating the breakfast platter that had Spam, Portuguese Sausage Patties, Eggs, and Rice on the platter. Haruto and Kimura were enjoying their breakfast meal with their Egg McMuffin, Hash Brown, and Coke.

The officers then came into McDonalds to get their breakfast too. Officer Akimitsu and Officer Noa saw Haruka and the family was eating at their table, Officer Akimitsu greeted, "Hey, Haruka-san, hello!".

Haruk greeted them with, "Oh, hello officers!". The kids were happy to see them while Kiryu kinda got nervous. Kiryu's worried about them finding out the wedding plans that…had issues regarding their true relationship.

Officer Akimitsu and Noa then decided to sit down next to them before getting their breakfast. Officer Akimitsu and Noa introduced themselves and the former noted the latter's lack of ability to speak Japanese. Kiryu introduced himself as one of Haruka's…friends.

Haruka almost immediately understood the issue of the relationship while the kids were stunned that Kiryu had to lie a little bit about the relationship with Haruka.

Officer Akimitsu tells them in Japanese, "Okay, so from what we could gather with the evidence from yesterday regarding the incident at the store…It's clear that the Tojo Clan had planned an abduction of Kimura from yesterday, but failed to do so after the 4 girls must have exposed them, thinking that they're probably pedophiles as well. This…might've been for the best as the disaster didn't extend towards other people in Honolulu according to other officers who have experiences playing games from the Ryu Ga Gotoku series.".

The family were shocked and Kiryu asks, "Is there a clue what family Masamoto Arisu is from?".

Officer Akimitsu shook his head and said, "No, it's the first time that we've ever had a record on her. According to Kimura, she said that they're from the Tojo Clan.". Kimura nodded in confirmation, giving credence that the Tojo Clan is around Hawaii.

Kiryu looked stressed out and asked, "Uh…did you guys catch the abductor?".

Officer Akimitsu replied, "No, they escaped with their private jet as soon as we got back to the police station and we had to put up a nationwide alert. What we did find is that there's guns that made an unexpected delivery inside a container on one of the ships and we had to seize them, assuming that the Tojo Clan had smuggled these guns as part of their plan. What I can only tell you right now is to watch out and report it to us, don't fight, okay?".

Considering that Kimura almost got abducted by the Tojo Clan and his plan to marry Haruka, Kiryu said, "Fine…but has the evidence examined been completed?".

Officer Akimitsu answered, "Yes, I'll talk to my partner regarding that.", and Officer Akimitsu tells him in English, "Hey Noa, would you kindly please go get the evidence that's in the car?".

Officer Noa said, "Certainly, I'll be right back.", and Officer Noa went outside of the restaurant.

Officer Akimitsu then asks Kiryu, "So, what brings you to Hawaii Kiryu-san?".

Kiryu quickly came up with, "Uh…just going on vacation with my family here for relaxation purposes and for fun.".

Officer Akimitsu replied, "Ah, okay. Well, I'm here to go eat some of my favorite breakfast in McDonalds…", and he chuckles. Kiryu also chuckled as well, trying to come off as friendly.

Officer Noa had brought back the evidence with the same reusable bag that Kimura had yesterday and gave it to Kimura. Officer Noa also gave an envelope…to Kiryu and commented in English, "One of the Tojo Clan's members has attempted to appease your daughter by bribing her, but your daughter is fully cooperative with us and we're proud of her for doing so.". Kiryu partially understood, but there's a majority of English that he still doesn't get.

Officer Akimitsu translates it for him and Kiryu tells Officer Noa, "Thank you, we'll take good care of it sir. I know that the Tojo Clan were honestly a pain in the butt to deal with…". Officer Akimitsu translates it back to Officer Noa and Noa understands.

Officer Akimitsu was about to go get breakfast when suddenly, he got a call. Officer Akimitsu says, "I gotta go. We gotta help someone else. See ya later.", and both of the officers have left McDonalds without getting their breakfast.

While still having some food left on the table, Haruka explains to him that, "Kiryu-chan. I know where I wanted to go next for our clothes shopping: Ala Moana Center. I wanted to make sure that we're not buying anything too expensive. Let's hope that tomorrow…we're ready for this.".

Kiryu thought about it for a moment and then said, "Okay, but you gotta help me Haurka-chan. I'm not very good at having fashion sense. The last time that I tried it for myself was 35 years ago, Oda-san, my first supervisor reprimanded me for that suit. Let's just say that my kind of fashion is…tacky to say the least Haruka-chan.".

Haruka thought about it and questioned, "...What kind of job did you take while wearing the suit that your first supervisor has reprimanded?".

Kiryu answered, "I was working at Tachibana Real Estate Haruka-chan…man, it's such a long time ago that I've just remembered now…I missed the old days honestly. I remember wearing a white pinstriped suit over my chain-patterned dress shirt, a black belt with a buckle, and white shoes. I also wear a silver watch with a watch band on my left wrist. And I was given some glasses to appear non-threatening when working as a representative of Tachibana Real Estate by my supervisor, Oda-san.".

Haruka looked shocked when she realized that what she was seeing on the game box was mostly true. Haruka asks Kimura, "Hey Kimura-chan, may I please show the game to your dad? He might be talking about the clothes that he wore back then.".

Kimura says, "Okay mommy.", and she took the game out of the bag and Haruka took the game from her hands.

Haruka said to Kimura, "Thank you Kimura-chan.", and she showed the game to Kiryu commenting, "Is THIS the outfit you're talking about, Kiryu-chan?"

Kiryu looked stunned and answered,"Y-yeah, that's what I've worn back then…I don't if it's cool right now to wear it. Nowadays, I honestly would have a better fashion sense had I gone with a more conservative route instead of just trying to follow Nishiki's style since then…", and he also nervously giggled due to how Kiryu wished that he went a different route of fashion in the past.

Haruka gave the game back to Kimura and changed the subject. Haruka said, "Yeah, I'll help you and our kids get our clothes ready, Kiryu-chan. Uh, let's just finish eating some McDonald's food here and go when we're done eating.", and Haruka continued to eat her breakfast platter while Kiryu resumed eating his Saimin. The kids were finishing their breakfast too.

After shopping for some clothes at the Ala Moana Center, they're back at their hotel room, putting their clothes down in the early evening, and making sure Haruto and Kimura are fed with dinner before discussing some serious subject matter towards each other.

Haruka commented, "Wow! Today there were a lot of customers shopping at that place! I'm glad that we got our clothing of choice for tomorrow! It's definitely going to be our big day Kiryu-chan! I can't wait for it.".

Kiryu agreed and added, "I'm glad that we're seriously doing this…To tell you the truth, I wasn't sure if we're seriously going through this, but it seems that tomorrow is the likely day to do so. I'm seriously grateful that we've shared a similar sentiment to each other, Haruka-chan.".

Haruka was happy and suggested, "Yeah, you know where we're going tomorrow Kiryu-chan? Tomorrow, we're going to the Ko Olina Chapel to get married! I know you've talked about wanting to go to Nanala Hill Memorial Church because you've talked to me about how my mom used to say that she wanted to get married in that church while she's in Kamurocho.".

Kiryu nodded and reminisced, "Yeah…I remember something that Yumi said once, 'Hawaii's the perfect place to get married.'. It just came out one day while we were goofing around. Nanala Hill Memorial Church…Yumi always wanted to go there when she lived in the city. We grew up in the countryside, at an orphanage called sunflower. The ring that's engraved with her name in English? It's the only gift I've ever given her. We were never engaged…Back then, I…I just couldn't tell her how I felt. By the time I finally found the words…she was on her deathbed.".

Haruka then commented, "Kiryu-chan…I…I do feel bad that my mom has to pass away so soon. I know that she's special to you in the heart back in the day. It's sad, but we have to move on to our future and I know you've told me in your heart that you wanted to go out with me because you want to feel happy like the old days. Look, we can finally act like a couple without worrying about being apart for years again when compared to being an adoptive daughter with an adoptive father at that time! It's like I can be with you without shame when you're involved with the Tojo Clan once again! You get it right?".

Kiryu then said, "Heh, yeah. I'm glad that I have you, Haruka-chan. In fact, I'm finally moving on from Yumi. Yumi may be my first love, but she's really gone and I have you. I'm very glad I didn't abandon you because you trusted me when I did things for you, Haruka-chan.".

Haruka giggled and reminded him, "Well…I'm happy that I've exceeded your expectations just like you did in the old days when you're with me. Before we go to bed, the church that you've described to me regarding Nanala Hill Memorial Church, the Ko Olina Chapel, a similar church has a similar design to the Nanala Hill Memorial Church that we can go into if you want to marry me over there…".

Kiryu hesitated for a few moments before answering, "Alright, let's go over to the Ko Olina Chapel tomorrow, Haruka-chan.".

Haruka said, "Wonderful, now let's go to bed, Kiryu-chan. We gotta move and I promise you, we'll have sex tomorrow. After all, the reason why we went to Hawaii is to get a quick marriage over there compared to Japan Kiryu-chan. It's bureaucracy that's bothering me and that having it on their records could be worse than having it on the American records.".

Kiryu commented, "Yeah, I get that Haruka-chan. Putting this on the American records would be less of a hassle because I don't think that they know that we're adoptive father and daughter. They'll probably overlook it for the first few months and fail to realize it at worst. It would be a quick and private ceremony, Haruka-chan. And yeah, let's go to bed. No sex tonight. I don't have my condoms yet…".

For the rest of the evening, they were on their phones for a few more hours and when it's time to go to bed, Haruto and Kimura were put to rest first. Then, Kiryu and Haruka got on the bed together feeling confident that they're gonna get married tomorrow.

The next day, Kiryu and Haruka were standing next to each other in their formal wedding attire with the pastor being in the middle of the altar in the Ko Olina Chapel. The pastor asked, "Do you Kazuma Kiryu, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?".

Kiryu answered, "I do.".

The pastor then turned towards Haruka and asked, "Do you Haruka Sawamura, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to live together in matrimony, to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health, in sorrow and in joy, to have and to hold, from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?".

Haruka replied, "I do.".

The pastor then said, "By the authority vested in me by the State of Hawaii, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride.". The Wedding March by Mendelssohn from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" starts playing.

Kiryu and Haruka then happily kissed each other and then Kiryu carried Haruka out of the altar. The kids were clapping their hands and following their parents as fast as they could.

Kiryu then started explaining to Date at some bar in Kabukicho with Haruka right beside Kiryu, "And so, Haruka and I went out to eat at McDonalds to have ourselves a McTeri Deluxe meal after the wedding after we changed our clothes back to our normal attire. For the rest of the day we were watching the sunset at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park as a family. Haruka and I had sex at night at the resort before we left Hawaii for the next day. It was a wild one for the four of us as a family.".

Haruka exclaimed, "Kazzy-chan!", and she giggled about it.

Kiryu then said, "...and that's how we got married in Hawaii, Detective Date-san. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive us for doing this.".

Haruka then added, "And we're still happily married to each other. Thank you very much.", and they both kissed each other on the lips.

Detective Date replied, "Wow…that's a lot of emotional baggage that must've been finally lifted for the two of you. Yeah, I'll forgive you two, I'll let you know if I find Dr. Eggman-san because I have some questions for him as well regarding his crimes of burning the Morning Glory Orphanage down.".

Kiryu commented, "Yeah…If I find Dr. Eggman-san, I want him to tell the truth to me. If he still refuses, I'll get him to do it…", and he felt quite angry with that.

Haruka noticed it and said to Kiryu, "Kazzy-chan, please. We'll give Dr. Eggman-san the punishment that he deserves for doing that. You don't have to do this alone, especially regarding your health problems.", and she patted Kiryu on the shoulders, calming him down.

Detective Date drank and then said, "There's another major info that I got from the info brokers. Masamoto Arisu-chan's first major info was that the info brokers often cited her mental illness, resulting the alleges kidnapping of Kimura-chan with the motives being: saving Kimura-chan from being kidnapped by Soros George-sama to believing that the CIA wanted to assassinate Kimura-chan with Obama Barack-san's approval. That's all I got about Arisu-san.".

Haruka is stunned and comments, "Well…I wonder what causes Arisu-chan to be like this…I don't know if it's her parents raising her, her friends, or the community being the issue that causes Arisu-san to be like who she is today…at least I'm glad that she's NOT a pedophile.".

Kiryu tells Haruka, "Hmm…I can only hope that Arisu-chan would at least be stopped…that's what matters to me. I know I can't get involved once again…", and Haruka agreed with him.

Kiryu feels disappointed about it, but tells Date, "Well…I guess that does explain Arisu-san's irrationality towards my daughter, but are you sure that there's no info on what her position in the Tojo Clan is…is there Date-san?".

Detective Date shook his head and explained, "The Tojo Clan is still going underground, especially dealing with major rivals such as the 4 major yakuza groups with one of them being splintered from the biggest group in the 'Real World Universe'. I don't know if I can say the same with the Omi Alliance and/or the Daidoji Faction going underground as well since the info is really sparse. Hell, I don't even know if Dr. Eggman-san continued to work with them in the real world or went back to his respective universe considering that there's Sonic games that have been selling out recently.".

Kiryu mumbled, "Hm, guess I can't expect any new info about them soon…".

Haruka tells Kiryu, "Cheer up Kazzy-chan, at least we're safe from the grips of the Tojo Clan and Arisu-chan. We're also married now, thus this'll confuse info brokers who are expecting our relationship to be in the previous roles. It'll be an advantage to confuse at least one of the major yakuza groups who might try to find us and make a fool of themselves when they find out the truth about our actual marriage.", and all 3 of them were laughing at that point.

They continue drinking for sometime before Kiryu, Haruka, and Detective Date have left the bar.
