So, they won't be common, but there will be some chapters that don't focus on Cree. Such as this one! Most because I feel like going back to the sight of her crippling is something that might kinda…trigger her. But I wanted a chapter of someone hunting for answers and well, I think this duo works best.

"Are you sure you're alright, Numbuh 5?" Numbuh 1 asked for what felt like the twentieth time in five minutes.

"Numbuh 5 is fine and she's going to keep being fine unless you don't shut it!" Numbuh 5 snapped. The two operatives had decided to return to the site of the old warehouse where Cree had lost her arm and where Sector Z had supposedly disappeared. While most of the team seemed willing to buy it, Numbuh 1 still found himself doubting the whole thing. Sector Z had been praised for being some of the most loyal and devoted operatives in the history of the Kids Next Door. So them just up and abandoning both another operative and the organization as a whole really didn't sit right with him. And even if they did, shouldn't they have been tracked down by now? The Kids Next Door had eyes and ears pretty much everywhere on the planet. So the fact they were never even found only left him with more questions.

Which brought him to his personal mission.

At the very least, he wanted to get some clues about what could have possibly happened that night that no one they knew was able to see. What exactly happened to Sector Z in the explosion? Originally, he had planned to make the whole thing a secret trip, but since he didn't actually know where the location of the warehouse had been, he was forced to ask Numbuh 5 if she remembered where it was. She did, but also requested to tag along, explaining that she wanted to get closure for Cree.

"She'll never admit it, but Numbuh 5 thinks that Cree's still kinda hurt from what Sector Z did to her. So if Numbuh 5 can get some answers, she will," Was what the other girl had said when Numbuh 1 insisted that she didn't have to come.

"Hey, we're here," Numbuh 5 spoke up as she looked over the sight. Numbuh 1 couldn't help but cringe when he saw it. Even almost five years later, the place still looked like a nightmare. Pieces of burnt debris littered the area and the smell of smoke was still faint in the air.

"It's worse than I could have imagined," Numbuh 1 admitted as he bit the inside of his chin. No turning back now. Taking another glance at Numbuh 5 just to make sure she was okay, Numbuh 1 began to walk towards the wreckage, with Numbuh 5 trailing after him.

"Somehow looks even worse from when it was burning…" She bitterly grunted as she kicked a small piece of wood aside. Numbuh 1 couldn't blame her. After all, her sister, who clearly looked up to and held a lot of love towards was brutally maimed and seemingly betrayed as well. Still, they wouldn't find anything at what would have been the outside of the place. So, further in they moved.

"What was that?" Numbuh 1 asked as he pointed towards the remains of a strange capsule.

"Numbuh 5 isn't sure," She admitted as she looked over it, making sure to avoid any shards of glass. "All the fire kinda kept me from seeing this the first time. Well, that and making sure that Cree got to the hospital."

"I understand," Numbuh 1 replied before turning back to what was left of the capsule. "Still, this would most likely be our most likely method to find clues on what exactly went down that night." With that, the duo began to look over the capsule, as well as what was left of the "room" it had been found in. While it was mostly ruined, there were still some things the two operatives could make out, such as various electrical wires and power sources.

"No wonder this thing blew up," Numbuh 5 couldn't help but note. Even with her limited knowledge of technology (that was more Numbuh 2's thing), she knew that having this many wires and power sources would be catastrophic if something went wrong, like a fuse blowing out or sparks catching something on fire.

"But what was it being used for?" Numbuh 1 had to ask as he wracked his brain to come up with some reason for what this capsule could have been used for. "I wonder if any plans could have survived the fire."

"There's a couple cabinets over there, but Numbuh 5 doubts it," Numbuh 5 said as she pointed towards said cabinets. Still, Numbuh 1's curiosity was very much peeked. It took a bit of effort to get the doors open, considering that the locks had melted, but the doors to each still standing cabinet gave way. There were a few things inside, but most had been damaged by the fire. Still, Numbuh 1 couldn't help but try to make out what he could.

"It seems like whatever this was was the first test," He revealed after scanning the first paper. This prompted Numbuh 5 to come over, realizing that something might actually be salvageable from the papers. However, from there, most of the papers were things like business reports over what parts the creator of the device, quickly revealed to be Father, had ordered.

"Ugh, why are these the most legible things?" Numbuh 5 groaned in boredom.

"Maybe Father set the fire himself to burn down all the evidence?" Numbuh 1 theorized as he tried to look over another piece of paper, this one pretty much completely destroyed.

"Numbuh 5 would buy that," She admitted. "Still doesn't explain what happened to Sector Z."

"Actually, I've been meaning to ask, how old were they again?" Numbuh 1 asked. "Like I said, I still doubt they would just run, but if they were closer to decommissioning, then it could at least explain something."

"No, they were all ten," Numbuh 5 revealed. "All of 'em had three years left."

"Then why would they run?" Numbuh 1 asked aloud. "Even if they did run, why wouldn't they help Cree? It just doesn't make sense to me."

"Not makin' a lot of sense to Numbuh 5, either," Numbuh 5 admitted. "But she wasn't there when they walked away, and Cree seems pretty set on what she saw."

"If only there was a way we could go back in time to figure it out…" Numbuh 1 trailed off. Time travel was completely impossible and, if movies taught him anything, messing with the past was highly dangerous. "But if this was a prototype, then why have we never seen anything like this before…or since this incident, I guess?"

"Maybe Father got the results he wanted on the first go?" Numbuh 5 offered. "'Course, we don't even know what he wanted. The investigation was kinda abandoned due to everyone focusing more on Sector Z going AWOL and Cree ending up in the hospital."

"Understandable," Numbuh 1 replied as he cast another glance at the destroyed capsule. He then noticed something inscribed on the base. Kneeling down, he began trying to make it out. While some of the metal had melted over the writing, some of it was still readable. "This was a…D-something chamber."

"Well, D can mean a lot of things, especially evil things," Numbuh 5 pointed out. "So not a lot of hints here."

"I suppose this wasn't the greatest idea. As we know from dealing with Father, fire can destroy most things very quickly," Numbuh 1 noted as he gathered up some of the other papers. "Still, might be worth holding onto some of these files. Perhaps we might be able to use other methods to get some more information out of them."

"Seems like a long shot," Numbuh 5 mumbled under her breath, even if she still picked some papers that she had been looking over. A long shot was still a shot, no matter how low the odds. As she and Numbuh 1 left the remains of the warehouse, Numbuh 5 couldn't help but spare another glance at it. Why does nothing make sense?

So…I think you, as the readers, know what really went down that night if you know anything about the KND story. But obviously, I can't let them know that. Anyways, Merry Christmas everyone!
