"Soooo What's in the boooox!" I grin as I crack open the deep rich wooden top, gazing down within to my new treasures.
Inside are sixteen large potion bottles- something that normally wouldn't fit in this little box- each filled with red liquid. There's a golden band around the middle, but judging by the color and shade, these are healing potions, right?
Healing Potion:
Heals wounds rapidly
It's a 'healing potion'. Not the lesser variants I found previously.
Next there's some purple orb things?
Journeyman Bait:
An average bait that is used to catch decent fish.
"I was honestly unaware that there was a fishing mechanic." I mutter quietly.
"Oh! It's a good way to get some items and ore if you want!" Eridani pipes in.
I'll... be forced to do that soon, I guess.
I pull the last item out of the box, causing it to disappear into motes of light.
"oh?"
It is a large blue saber-like sword, single edged, with a small handguard. It appears to be entirely made of ice.
It doesn't really feel very cold to me at the moment, thanks to that all powerful jewel I took from the ice golem, but I assume that this would be relatively uncomfortable to hold.
"Think I got enough to take on that damned Squirrel with this?" I question idly as i look over the blade.
Ice Blade:
Capable of unleashing a chilling bolt of energy with a swing.
"It should help." Comes her simple reply
I give the blade a lazy swing, watching as a fairly sizable bolt of cold energy shoots off into the distance.
"Huh." I mutter as I gently rub my finger along the icy edge I stare at the blood that drips down the digit for a moment. "Not bad. Pretty sharp as well. How durable is this?"
"More than Iron."
"Ah. So it can handle a bit of a pounding, then. That's good." I grin as I look over the blue blade.
I am currently sat just out front of my home, deep within the forest. One of the things I had quickly figured out was that every time I 'wake up' here in my own world... it's always in one space.
That is why I questioned Eridani about 'setting my spawn'.
Apparently, it's possible.
Merely with a bed.
I watch a large blue slime rapidly bounce towards me-
Its colors lighten, the slime gaining a frosty appearance.
It stops.
Completely.
Crack-Chzsss* then it shatters into thousands of pieces, leaving behind a jar of slime.
"Well, let's gather some things."
I look to the large heart shaped rock in my hand. "Wait, you are telling me I can only have like... wait... how many did I absorb again?"
"Nineteen." Comes Eridani's reply.
"Is nineteen really the limit?!" I question.
"For this, yes. There are future ways to increase your strength, sure, but those require you to defeat something called the 'Wall of Flesh' an enemy that is currently far beyond your capabilities. Thus. You need to get gear."
"I see." I sigh, shoulders slumping slightly.
"So... is this worthless, then?"
"No. It has quite a few uses. If you combine it with a shackle, you can make a band of regeneration-"
"I have two of those... and they don't stack." I point out.
"You can break it down into Life Quartz. With enough of that you could make an item that gives you an increase in physical abilities as if you had used another life crystal."
"How much do i need?"
"About three life crystals worth." The purple haired guide supplies.
"I see." I nod slowly. "That'll probably take a while."
"Or you could just keep it and give it to someone else once you are able to bring items outside." She continues.
"oooh. I like that idea." I grin.
It has been one long year since Eridani had appeared to me.
One long year since I started diving down into the caves below... and let me just say, damn. The network beneath my home is labyrinthian and it's SO easy to get lost.
Regardless, I've collected a lot this past year.
Twenty life crystals, each of which push my physical body further and further along in strength.
I don't even get hurt when shooting the blunderbuss anymore... I can do it with one hand.
I've also made considerable progress to my terra-force.
The Iron Enchantment was finished swiftly.
After a while, finally the daily shop changed into something that I needed and I managed to get my hands on two revolvers, one of which was used to make the Tin enchantment- which is honestly really good. Basically it made it so I have a five percent chance to 'critically hit' something, but said chance is improved by five percent every time I crit something, only resetting when I get hurt.
After that, the Lead enchantment fell into my hands, allowing me to inflict 'lead poisoning' with each attack.
Next, came Silver. Something that was honestly a pretty simple to nab. It allowed me to gain access to an ability I will CERTAINLY be abusing in the coming future.
A guard ability that makes me immune to damage.
ROYAL GUARD!
There's a downsides though, firstly, it has a damage cap.
Luckily, Eridani said that this cap disappears once I turn the enchantment into a 'Force'.
I sigh dramatically then shake my head. "Alright, I guess this is enough preparation for now. Let's see what bosses we can defeat.
I take a mirror out of my backpack and gaze into it, this with a flash I am suddenly outside.
I stretch my arms above my head, letting out a yawn as I gaze upwards.
It's about... three in the afternoon.
More than enough time.
"I've got the preparation for the Squirrel guy, but I'm going to try it first without any of it... just see how I do... I want to see how tough I am now." I hum as i turn and quickly run over to my little home.
I open the door and walk inside, lazily shrugging my backpack off and hooking it on the arm of a mannequin that is basically a perfect cosplay of Toad from Super Mario.
Yeaaah. There's a lot of cool sights to see in this world... even underground.
Abandoned houses, caves of marble, caves of granite, and large caves of glowing blue grass and gigantic mushrooms.
I found the toad costume in the latter biome.
I also found a second one, actually. It's in a chest around her somewhere.
I might break that one down for its base materials, it's quite soft and well made. Clearly being made of silk. I could probably make an incredible pillow from Flinx Fur and the other Toad hat
I put away my mirror and lay the heart crystal I'll probably give someone to use later on the table.
I lift the revolver from its holster on my hip and quickly eject six bullets, catching them all in just one hand.
Folding my fingers down, I toss aside the empty one and quickly reload the five good bullets, then grab a sixth from a little pouch at my waist.
That... is probably my favorite item I have ever created.
A bag of infinite bullets.
Or, at least, standard bullets. One that I crafted by buying about four thousand bullets in the shop.
I have a gun that requires special silly bullets around here somewhere- which is my second favorite created item- it's just... the cost to shoot it even once is one gold. One entire gold.
By silly bullets i mean 'could likely murder an elephant in a single shot'.
I shot it only once, back when I had only absorbed like five of the heart crystals...
It broke my wrist. Like... incredibly badly.
It's a handgun, yet it had kick far surpassing the blunderbuss that beat me every time I shot it.
'I wonder if I can wield it now...'
I shake my head and walk outside.
Giga Squirrel isn't worth the money to fire that gun... and while I'd likely get coins from its treasure bag- that will hopefully drop from it, I'm frankly a little unsure if that was a thunder bird only sort of thing- I'm SO close to getting my damned minigun.
I turn, slipping the revolver back into a holster at my hip, slowly walking back outside as I grab the little squirrel war banner that I had crafted all that time ago.
I walk by the crucible of the cosmos, crafting a torch from stored materials as I do so.
I briefly run away from the area surrounding my home, coming to a stop in a small clearing, the dirt has been torn, there's large rectangular indents pressed into the floor.
The location I've died previously to the wooden menace.
I toss the banner to the floor and lazily flick the torch atop it.
The item begins quickly burning...
Then, I hear it.
BRRRMMMM*
The sound of a war horn in the distance, and the rapidly approaching thuds of heavy footsteps.
I turn, watching a large figure force its way through the trees.
I gaze up its form, a calm smile on my face.
For the first time in a long while I feel... quite confident, actually.
I stand there, head held high as i gaze into the little slit-like visor up on the head of the squirrel.
"Y'know... maybe I should have brought a bomb to shove in there." I hum as the large wooden mecha stomps to a halt.
The Trojan Squirrel has Awoken.
It rushes forwards at high speeds, letting out a horn-like bellow.
I smirk and just stand there as its foot raises above me.
It slams its leg downwards as I let out a small grunt, i raised my arms above my head, knees bent, the entire weight of the mech's step is spread out across my shoulders.
"heh... HEHEHHEHEH AHAHAHAHAH!" I cackle as I am slightly forced downwards. However...
That only slightly hurt.
I could take hundreds of blows like that... in addition.
I let out a roar as I shove my arms upwards, the squirrel staggering as I throw it slightly.
What once would have turned me into red paste... I can tank as if it is nothing.
The minor crick in my shoulder fades as I turn my neck to the left and right, cracking it.
"Finally... I've got that Dante strength." I grin as I clench and unclench my fist.
The wooden mecha points its arm down at me, as I gesture for it to shoot me.
"Come on, then! Fucker! Let's see how tough that gun of yours is now!"
A rain of acorns pelts my body as I tightly shut my eyes, I am riddled with bruises, the tips of the acorns even rarely managing to pierce the skin slightly.
However.
I persist.
After around three seconds, the attacks stop.
A grin slowly forms on my face as I look up to it. "Ow. That stung a little."
"Now..." I seethe. "Why don't I pay you back for that?"
I lunge forwards, hopping up onto the angled thigh of the robot, then leap again, I run along its side briefly, nestling myself just under where its arm meets its shoulder. "LET'S RIP OFF THAT BOTHERSOME GUN!"
I grab its arm and begin struggling to stand.
The wood creaks and groans as my teeth grit, then, with a sudden pop and a shower of sparks its entire arm of torn off.
As I fall, I whirl around, swinging the limb like a large club.
CRACK*
The wooden chest gains a fairly substantial dent in it.
The Trojan Squirrel: 67.2%
"Heh... Let's do it again."
I dodge the slamming kick of the mech, and using my dual grappling hooks I leap up onto its shoulder
I shoot my revolver into the side of the wooden golem's head twice, frowning at the lack of any real damage.
"Ah well. Let's break off this other arm and beat it to death with it.
I slip under the arm yet again and break it off like the last. However, this time i do not drop it as i fall to the floor. I wield the hunk of wood easily three times my size and bring it down right on the knee of the boss, cracks cascade along both my weapon and up the thigh of the mechanical menace.
I turn, and slam it into the other knee, creating more cracks. With a final swing towards the first knee, the forearm snaps off my weapon, i hurl the upper part of the arm as hard as I can, managing to get some surprising force as it crashes into the chest of the Squirrel, knocking it backwards.
The Trojan Squirrel: 21.1%
Sparks spew from its arm sockets, a deep black smoke beginning to waft from the holes.
I watch the health of the boss begin to tick down.
First, it starts quite slow, barely lowering a tenth of a percent after twenty seconds. The smoke grows thicker as I let out a low hum. Being satisfied with allowing the boss to 'bleed out' in front of me.
Fire spews from its arm holes, smoke billowing from the cracks.
I manage to avoid its last dying flails as it seems to break down, small explosions seem to wrack its form, then suddenly squirrels pour from its eyes and the numerous large holes I've made, they scatter like mice, disappearing into the forest.
"..."
The Trojan Squirrel has Been Defeated.
Poof*
New Items have been unlocked in the shop!
The burning wreck abruptly disappears leaving behind a treasure bag much like the Great Thunderbird.
A low hum leaves my lips as I walk over to the bag I take a seat in the grass, opening the bag.
I reach inside only to pause as i feel a pinching feeling on my index finger.
I pull my hand out to reveal...
A fucking little brown squirrel biting my finger?!
"Nyeeh!" I shout as I sling my hand forwards, catapulting the little bastard into the distance.
I watch it crash into a tree and promptly evaporate.
"..." a thought comes to mind. "Hey, Eridani, was that guy important?"
"Nope. Just an ordinary squirrel"
"Oh good." I sigh in relief as i reach inside and grab... another... Squirrel? Only this one has a little harness on it and a handle on its back.
"What the fuck-"
Squirrel hook:
Useful for reaching things that are far away. Doubt it could hold your weight, though.
"Uh... Eridani... is there any use for this?"
"You can sell it for twenty six silver in the shop."
"Oh good." I sigh again, knowing full well that my current dual hooks are far better than this little squirrel.
And the next item on the list isss
A little snowy stick- ah wait. Magic staff.
The Snowball Effect:
Allows you to conjure and control a snowball that rolls on the floor growing larger and larger the longer you use this staff.
Eh. My gem is probably better.
Lumber Jaxe:
An incredibly powerful axe which can also be used as a weapon. Foes felled by this axe have a small chance of dropping wood.
I guess this can replace that copper axe I never use? trees take a while to grow, so I suppose it could be useful.
New Items have been unlocked in the shop!
"Dante! That's incredible! A bunch of wood is now purchasable in the shop! It has Ash Wood! We'll need that for the future!"
"Oh?" I question.
"Yeah! You'll need to go to hell though. That's actually where you find quite a few of the more important materials! The only issue is... your flesh would catch on fire merely taking a single step down there! That's why you need the Ash Wood enchantment and the Obsidian enchantment that requires it."
"So, the Ashwood enchantment is something that I need for the Terra Force, hm?" I hum mutely.
"I see. What do i need?"
"Full Ash Wood Armor, a special flower that is found in the underworld, Fireblossom- though we already have a few thanks to you managing to find it in a bag of herbs that one time- a lot of gel which we also have a lot of annnd a spicy pepper... which you get from ashwood trees in the underworld.
"So, I'd need to get burned?" I question with a long sigh.
"Yep. But Ash Wood armor should lessen it somewhat. Thankfully, the Ash Wood enchantment makes you immune to the heat of the underworld, plus gives you a buff if you're on fire!"
I continue looking through the bag with a small nod of acknowledgment.
I pull out a simple wooden box of some sort?
Squirrel-Tec Gizmo
Can be used to enhance wooden weapons.
"..."
"uhhhh."
"I'm going to be honest... I don't know." Eridani explains.
I pull out five little bags of herbs. Useful for making potions.
Next, there's a little sack of money, two gold and fifty silver coins.
Annnd five wooden crates
I'll open those when I get back home.
I pick up the little Squirrel bag, looking over it briefly.
Trojan Bag of Holding:
This bag, when emptied of boss loot, functions as a supernatural storage space, allowing you to hold up to 2 different items within, materials, such as wood, ore, or types of stone stack into the same 'slot', allowing you to potentially carry far more than two instances of the item in question. Weapons, armor, and accessories on the other hand, cannot be stacked and take up a space all on their own. This bag can hold up to 750 Lbs of material, and treats the items within as being weightless for the duration they remain inside.
It's better than the Thunderbird bag of holding.
"So. Eridani... What's nex-"
A Goblin Army is Approaching from the north. It will arrive by mid-day tomorrow.
"Oh... Oh Dear." Eridani mutters quietly.
"I take it that this is bad?" I question.
"Well... ah... Dante... how do you feel about facing possibly hundreds of enemies armed with swords, bows, swords, shields and magic?"
"..."
"I'd feel a lot better if I had a minigun, so I'm going to kill a bunch of these squirrel bastards to get enough money to buy one." I blandly observe.
"Anyways, did I get some sort of benefit for killing this thing? Like, for the thunderbird, I unlocked you, and you said I'd get perks for killing bosses."
"You did. The Crucible of the Cosmos now produces wood, insects, fruit or other small animals daily." She informs.
"Oh? It makes fruit? That's useful I suppose."
"Today's lesson is perhaps one of the most important ones you shall have." Our teacher begins at the front of the room. My gaze slowly strays the numerous 'Sigurds' around me.
I take notice of the youngest amongst us. 'Ah? New faces? We're missing a few as well. I'm unsure if that's because they were phased out and deemed failures or they simply 'graduated'.'
"Four Zero Four. This is probably the most important lesson for you, even more so than the rest, even though it is an invaluable lesson in and of itself. Come here."
I rise from my spot near the back of the room and make my way forwards, my impassive gaze flicking from the scientists at the side to the main 'sword instructor' for us filthy clones.
"Put this on." He demands as he holds out a... collar.
Ah.
Yeah. I'm going to murder this man one day.
I take the shock collar and put it on.
"Four Zero Four. Your skill in combat is currently unmatched against the others. Regardless of age, or experience. You are a prodigy who truly grasped Sigurd's natural sword talent. Lacking true emotion to lead you astray. To sin. You are a near perfect creation." He compliments... only it appears that he is actually complimenting the scientists who test-tube babied me. "However. This has left you with one. Single weak point... you do not know pain like the others. This... is dangerous. When fighting devils, youkai, werewolves, vampires and other creatures of sin... it is likely that you will be injured. In such a case, you will be at a disadvantage. Pain causing you to become reckless or lose clarity within the fight. It may even trigger a fight or flight response and you might flee from battle. That. Is why you must know pain. You must understand it. You must adapt to it."
'Fucker. Just shock me already. You just loooove to hear the sound of your own voice, don't you?'
The collar beeps and volts of electricity run through me. I grit my teeth and stare impassively.
The man lets out a low hum of interest as I continue to stand there. He glances over his shoulder.
The pain seems to increase, my finger twitching slightly.
"I see... hn. Perhaps you were better than we thought." He notes, casting a glance over to the scientists. "Return to your seat."
I see you aren't turning off the shock collar you fucking- ah. There we go.
With that I turn and walk away, now that my very muscles weren't being locked.
I notice that this shitty thing appears to be made completely of metal and requires a key... perhaps I should speed up my synchronization to my in-game self.
I doubt I would even feel the pain if I had my dream constitution.
'Should I speed up my plan of escape?' I ponder the question for a moment.
'No. I am too young at the moment. I need to be older.'
A white haired child on his own would surely attract attention. Not only from the church, but also whatever other factions are out there.
In addition, while cruel, this place does give me a safe place to continue to grow my strength. I'd be forced to constantly watch my surroundings if I left. Here, I am more or less safe.
I make my way back to my seat and sit down, the boy who I can only assume to be freed sellzen smirking evilly. "That look suits you! You're like a collared bitch!"
"Two Nine Five you're awfully talkative... you're next." The man states, causing the briefest smiles to appear on my lips.
Freed glares at me like I'm the one who made him taunt me, then stomps to his feet, glaring pointedly at literally everyone.
Waiiit.
I think i know a method to solve all of my problems! I could pray to an angel. Surely they don't know about the church torturing children like this.
The real question is 'do i want to be known to the higherups of the heavenly faction yet?'.
Would my prayer even be heard.
How do I word it in a way for them to deal with this shit? Cause if they start activating this nonsense when I am trying to sleep. I might actually snap and kill someone.
And wouldn't that be suuuch a shame.
"AAAAAGHHHHHHH!" Freed screams as he writhes on the ground.
That prick being in pain doesn't even bring me the joy it should.
Well, mostly because he's still just a fucking brat right now and hasn't murdered, raped, and blasphemed his way out of the church yet.
Put a pin in savoring his screams until he is truly an unrepentable monster.
My hand shakes slightly as one of the scientists seem to turn on my collar again.
Oooh I'm going to kill someone~
Like, do these fucking idiots not realize that they've made a bunch of superhumans, then proceeded to torment them all their fucking life?
I wonder who of our group will snap first? Heck, maybe that's why there's a few of us missing. A couple of the 'Church's most loyal dogs' snapped at the hand that simultaneously feeds and beats them.
Ah well, I'll blow off some steam when I go all doom slayer on a bunch of goblins tonight.
And all is good in the world...
but just wait... just wait until Dante discovers one SINGULAR item that he could get fairly easily.
dare I say it?
L-Leather Sheath?
