A/N: Originally, this chapter was going to be the finale of the mini-arc, but I decided to switch them around a bit and make another fight the ending. Both were really fun to write and I personally think that they're awesome.

Chapter Fifty-One: Master and Apprentice
Part Three – The Final Test
That night after what seemed to be their final training session, Jacob and Ares took the time to relax by sitting by a large fire. Jacob had placed all the sticks that he had cut off the makeshift swords and even the broken pieces from the ruined sticks to fuel it. Ares was the one who used a fireball to start the blaze with a single fireball. The bonfire brightened much of the plateau and could be seen from a distance. A large, plump Apceros carcass laid not too far from the two, much of its flesh had been stripped as they had enjoyed a brief feast to themselves. While the Glavenus was busy gnawing on a bone from the carcass while Jacob stared at the sword in his hands. The heat from the fire was barely on his mind as he was thinking to himself. The human was amazed that he managed to complete Ares' training in a month. He honestly didn't think that he'd hold his Iron Katana again this soon. He also thought that it might have taken a little longer, and was kind of sad that it was done. Jacob glanced over to Ares who finished with the bone by breaking it within his jaws. The Glavenus then looked towards the human and gave a small growl.
The sound fully pulled Jacob from his thoughts and he looked over to his teacher. Ares rose to his feet and with a small motion of his head he told Jacob to follow after him. The human got up to his feet too and followed Ares to the overhang. The Glavenus laid down first with his side up against the stone while and the human laid his back against the wyvern's side. During the training period, the two friends had grown quite close to where the Glavenus didn't mind the human pressed up against him, especially on the colder nights. And while Ares' scales where they meet the back plates are a little uncomfortable, Jacob gotten used to the feeling after some time. It was almost like that time with Grumper and Boltia months ago. Before fully drifting off to sleep, Jacob turned his head to Ares' and said, "Good night, Ares."
Ares glanced to the human and gave a small grunt to return the sentiment. With a smile, Jacob turned his head back towards the direction of the fire and his eyes slowly drooped as he thought of what tomorrow may bring. Ares laid his head down soon after. The warm glow of the flames and the steady breathing of the Brute Wyvern caused the teen to nod off into slumber.
…
The rest of the night quickly passed and a new dawn came to the desert. And this time, Jacob was the first to rise for the new day. The human teen was currently standing before the ashes of last night's fire and stared out to the horizon. The sun was starting to peek over the eastern horizon and soon the New World would be warmed by its rays. A yawn made him look back to the Ares to see the Glavenus starting to get up himself. The Bladed Tail Wyvern gave another yawn after rising to his feet. Jacob laughed a little and lightly teased the Brute Wyvern, "C'mon now, sleepyhead."
Ares just gave the human a snort with a bemused look. The Glavenus then motioned for Jacob to follow as he started to head in the direction of the slope. The teen didn't hesitate to follow after his friend and they made their way down the slope. Though both master and apprentice made it to the lower level of the plateau Ares didn't stop there as he kept on going. Jacob tilted his head in slight confusion as to where they were going, but nonetheless kept following after his teacher.
…
Where they were going was a few hours walk from the plateau. Though Ares had offered to carry him in his own way, Jacob had politely declined and was able to keep up with him as they walked. The place that they had arrived at was still within the Wastes, but rested within the western side of the region. The sands had faded a few miles ago, so now it was all mostly dusty stone. An opening into a small canyon that had walls that towered over them on both sides. The passage looked to be at least three Glavenus' wide. There was no water running through the place, but Jacob felt like this made it an ideal place for some kind of event. He jumped when Ares let loose a roar that echoed through the canyon. While curious as to why, the teen walked alongside the Glavenus when Ares walked into the canyon. The two walked through the passage and Jacob noticed something along the walls of the canyon. A great number of large slash marks were cut into the stone. He figured that many Glavenus must have come here. The teen didn't dwell on the thought as he moved along to keep up with his mentor.
As he and Ares walked into what appeared to be a round portion of the canyon, the human became greatly surprised and nervous as to what he was seeing. There was a gathering of many Glavenus in this place. Each one had scars along their bodies that told their individual stories. And those were the adults. He could see a few young Glavenus standing beside what he could only think to be their parents or guardians of sorts. The teen tensed up when all eyes turned towards him and Ares.
The human remained close to Ares as they walked through the gathering of Glavenus. He could feel each gaze from the Brute Wyverns as they moved through the crowd. When they made it to the middle of the Brute Wyverns, Jacob kept his guard up as he could feel them all staring at him. The human took notice of his surroundings and while there was no plant life or anything, there was a platform made of stone.
He tensed up when a few walked right up to him and Ares. The teen took notice that some of them had lighter blue back plates and wondered if they were females. Jacob lightly jumped when one of the adults lowered their head next to him with a small growl and took a small sniff of the boy. He found that they didn't look they were threatening him. More like they were wary, but had a little curiosity in their eyes. The others looked to be communicating with Ares through a series of grunts and growls. While his Glavenus friend/mentor was communicating with his kin, Jacob continued to be swarmed by others of his mentor's people.
The ones that were very curious about him were the younger members of the gathering. They had moved around their parents or guardians to get a good look at the human. Jacob sincerely hoped that none of them were hungry as one moved a little closer. He glanced over to Ares for help and could swear that the Glavenus was giving him a teasing look as if to say that he would be fine on his own. Ares then started to move amongst his fellow Glavenus and a bit away from his pupil. Jacob had to turn his attention back to the young Brute Wyverns around him as they either sniffed or looked closely at him.
Jacob thought he would need to create a distraction or something to get some breathing room, but it wouldn't be necessary. One of the young ones gave a small roar at the others to get back and it seemed to make them back up a few steps. Jacob looked to this one and from the lighter blue back plates he found that he had been saved by a young female. She was quickly joined by an older female that Jacob could only guess was the young one's mother, another family member or her guardian. The older Glavenus lowered her head to get a good look at Jacob. The teen did his best to remain calm as he stared into her eyes. She soon backed away and gave a small growl to him before looking amongst the crowd. Jacob felt a shadow fall on him and looked to see Ares standing over him. The Glavenus still had a look that felt as if he were teasing his pupil. The human was a little ticked off with his friend, but chose to keep it under wraps for the time being. Ares and the older female started growling to one another.
But things seemed to freeze when a roar suddenly echoed through the canyon. All heads, human and Glavenus alike, turned to see what was going on. Many of the Glavenus at the back started to part and Jacob saw a couple of familiar faces entering the canyon. The scarred male Glavenus and the young male that had accompanied him the other day to Ares' plateau made their way through the crowds of Brute Wyverns.
The two quickly noticed both Ares and Jacob and the teen could swear that he could feel the scarred one's smugness from where he stood. The two stopped before Jacob, Ares and the two female Glavenus. The Scarred One looked down at Jacob with the same look that he gave him the first time that they met. He then looked to Ares and gave a grunt that sounded like a laugh before turning his gaze to the female. She rolled her eyes and turned her head away from him. He didn't seem to like that very much as he narrowed his eyes but turned his head back to the two. The younger male gave a growl at Jacob and the younger female growled her response to him. Even Jacob did his best to stand his ground and not show fear to the two.
A chorus of roars echoed through the small canyon and all the Glavenus turned their attention towards the platform of rocks. Jacob turned his head in the same direction, but some of the older Glavenus were blocking his view. Ares, seeing that the boy couldn't see, slightly lowered his head. Jacob grabbed onto Ares right horn and did his best to hang on when the Glavenus raised his head again. Now he had a much better view. Looking over the other Glavenus around him and Ares, Jacob could see three Glavenus standing on the platform of rocks. From where Jacob was sitting, this trio looked like they had been in many more fights due to the scars along their bodies and chips in their back plates and bladed tails. He wondered what was happening when the one in the middle gave a loud roar that echoed through the canyon. The teen lightly cried out when Ares started to move forward as did a few other Glavenus. He saw that the ones moving forward were adults that had a youngling with them. Quickly jumping down to the ground, Jacob moved to where he stood next to Ares like all the other young Glavenus did with their parents/guardians. Besides him and Ares, there were nine other duos of mentors and pupils here.
Each of the three looked over the set of duos before turning their gaze towards Jacob and Ares. The one on the left gave a small roar to Ares who answered with a roar of his own. The Glavenus who trained Jacob took a step back and the teen felt all eyes on him again. He looked up to the three Brute Wyverns who were looking amongst themselves. They seemed to come to an agreement of sorts when they all gave small grunts to Ares. Jacob chanced a glance to his friend and saw that the Glavenus seemed to be a little relieved when he took in a deep breath. Figuring that he was going to be allowed to participate in whatever Ares had gotten his help for, Jacob hoped he was prepared for what might be happening next.
The elder Glavenus on the right gave a small roar and Ares and the other parents/guardians moved forward away from their children/pupils. They turned to face their pupils after moving a feet from them and Ares gave Jacob a nod. Though still nervous about all this, Jacob nodded back. A grunt from the same elder and all the adult Glavenus immediately took a stance. Casting a quick glance to the other young Glavenus, Jacob saw that they doing their best not to move. Focusing on Ares again, the boy took notice of his Glavenus' stance. Thanks to the weeks of training, Jacob was able to recognize it as when Ares jumps up to bring his bladed tail down. Guessing that this must be a trust exercise of some sorts, he knew he needed to keep calm.
Taking a deep breath, Jacob relaxed himself and trusted in Ares. A quick silent prayer never hurt anything either, Lord, please keep me and Ares safe during all of this.
The elder gave a sharp roar, probably a command by the sound of it, and all the older Glavenus leapt towards their students. The bigger Brute Wyverns turned in the air and started to bring their tails down. And just when they landed before their students with a booming thud and brought their tails down at them, a couple yelped and jumped back in fright. Jacob and a few others were the only ones who didn't move as their mentor's bladed tails were but a few inches from their faces. Ares and the other mentors pulled their tails back while Jacob and some of the younger wyverns breathed a little easier.
The two who had failed the test were joined by their mentors and they stepped away from the remaining eight. From where he was standing, Jacob saw that the two younger Glavenus looked a bit ashamed that they weren't able to pass. The one on the left of the stone platforms gave a small roar and the majority of the Glavenus started to move away from those who remained. Jacob and the young Glavenus still in the middle of things looked up when the one in the middle of the five looked up to the top of the canyon walls.
They could see more Glavenus standing along the edges of the canyon, pushing something towards the edge. A moment later, a great deal of dead trees and large pieces of wood fell into the canyon and crashed to the stone cold, hard ground before being picked up by the Glavenus down in the canyon. The mentors all stayed back while the other Bladed Tail Wyverns moved the pieces into a circle around the students. They moved the pieces as close together as possible. When they finished they moved back to stand with the mentors. Jacob didn't like where this was going as he looked back to Ares. Even his Glavenus mentor was looking a little worried at the ring of dead wood.
Their attention was brought back to the three as two of them started to move around the dried wood. They soon formed a triangle and their throats quickly started glowing. The three Glavenus reared their heads back before launching a fireball at the dead wood. A blaze was instantly ignited and quickly started to grow around the ring. The flames crackled as they burned and formed a wall between the students from their masters. A fiery, red hue took over the canyon and Jacob wondered what was about to happen.
He turned his attention back to the stone platform when they started moving again. The two rejoined their fellow Bladed Tail Wyvern on the rocks to oversee the event. Another roar from the Glavenus still on the rocks seemed to start things off. Jacob looked around to the younger Glavenus and saw that a few turned to each another of their kin and started battling amongst each other. One swung their sword tail at another while another juvenile tried to bite at the one next to them. He almost didn't see a bladed tail coming down at him until it was too late. The teen jumped back with a yelp and the sword-like tail crashed into the ground before him. Looking to who the bladed tail belonged to, the human was hardly surprised that he was facing off against the pupil of the scarred Glavenus. He was very surprised when the young Brute Wyvern took his stance and waited for Jacob. Deciding to face this problem, Jacob took out his sword and held it in the ready position like a Glavenus.
The young Glavenus roared at him and Jacob gave a holler himself to answer him. The two charged towards each other and the young Brute Wyvern turned to swing his tail at the human. The teen side stepped the appendage and it crashed against the cold ground. Thanks to keeping his shield, Jacob used what he could call his own version of the hip bump. The defense piece smacked into the side of the young wyvern and the attack caused the young Glavenus to stumble back with a yelp. Jacob quickly followed up by swinging his sword while twisting his body around. The blade managed to scrape at the young wyvern's back plates and he cried out from the strike. The young Glavenus quickly retaliated by maneuvering his tail to catch it in his mouth. Jacob realized what was about to happen and quickly fell back and rolled away when the young wyvern not only sharpened his tail and it glowed, but spun around in a circle to strike at his opponent. Jacob managed to get to his feet again and held his sword at the ready. The young Glavenus growled as he charged at the human again.
(Cue My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark from Fallout Boy)
The competition started to really get intense when Jacob felt his back bump against something. He didn't feel a burning feeling so he didn't move into the fire. Glancing back he found himself against another Glavenus pupil. The young Brute Wyvern looked to him and Jacob jumped back to avoid being bit by him. He ducked down when the glowing tail of his own opponent was swung at him. The teen could feel the heat from the appendage as it passed over him. As he righted himself up, a look of determination formed on his face.
Fallout Boy: Ooh oh oh oh, ooh oh oh oh
Holding the blade at the ready, Jacob then rushed forward and started swinging in wide arcs to put the young Glavenus on the defensive. His fellow pupil stepped back from each swing just as glowing tail started to die down. Jacob came in on a particular swing and his sword clashed with the Glavenus' tail when his opponent stabbed it towards the ground. Sparks flew as the edges of the blades scrapped against each other. Both combatants glared at each other for a moment before they jumped back from each other.
Fallout Boy: Be careful making wishes in the dark
Around them, the other six combatants continued to battle each other as some managed to clash their tails together before pulling their appendages away. Others tried to blast the others with a fireball or bite their opponent. Jacob jumped out of the way when the Glavenus he faced lunged with his jaws wide open. Deciding to take an opportunity, Jacob jumped onto the young Glavenus' back. The young wyvern thrashed his body to get the human off of him, but Jacob managed to keep a good grip on the juvenile's back plates with one hand. With his sword hand he decided to try something with it. Since the young male was much smaller than his mentor and the other adult Glavenus, his body length was a bit shorter. Swinging his sword pretty close alongside the young wyvern's face, the human teen got the results that he was hoping for.
Fallout Boy: Can't be sure when they've hit their mark
And besides in the mean-meantime I'm just
dreaming of tearing you apart
The young male yelped in surprise when he saw the blade of the katana so close to his face. He moved as he thrashed to get Jacob off of him and ended up rushing towards one of the other three battles. The young Glavenus barreled into two of them and Jacob jumped off as the three crashed against the ground. He became worried when all three of them got up and looked to the human with a growl. Knowing that he had a bit of a problem on his hands, Jacob tried to think of what to do. He was mostly prepared to go up against one Glavenus, not three despite the fact them being only juveniles. All three young Bladed Tail Wyverns let loose their roars and charged at Jacob.
Fallout Boy: I'm in the de-details with the devil
So now the world can never get me on my level
The teen from another world turned tail and ran to stay ahead of their gaping maws. But he ended up tripping on his feet and fell to the ground. He looked back and gasped when two of the three suddenly leapt into the air and turned their bodies to bring their bladed tails on him. Jacob thought that he was done for when he felt teeth lightly grab his shoulder and he was suddenly pulled out of the way. The two bladed tails slammed into the ground and the two young Glavenus' tails were stuck for a moment.
Fallout Boy: I just got to get you out of the cage
I'm a young lovers rage
Jacob grunted when he was let go, fell on his back and looked up to see that he had once again been saved by the young female Glavenus from earlier. She looked down to him with a look that said that he was welcome. Jacob smiled up to her and said, "Thanks for the save."
Fallout Boy: Gonna need a spark to ignite
My songs know what you did in the dark
Jacob got back to his feet just as the two managed to rip their tails out of the ground. The apprentice to the scarred one joined them and they all assumed their stances. The female assumed her stance and Jacob held the Iron Katana in the ready position. The three let loose their roars and Jacob and the female Glavenus returned it with a roar or a yell of their own. Both sides charged for the other and the female pulled ahead of Jacob. The three all moved in unison and Jacob became surprised to see all three blades come down at the same time. The female nearly didn't stop in time to avoid being cut by her peers and the bladed tails scrapped against the ground.
Fallout Boy: So light 'em up up up, light 'em up up up
Light 'em up up up, I'm on fire
Jacob decided to do something a little unconventional and used his slinger arm. He fired the grappling hook and it latched on to one of the female's back plates. As he zipped through the air, he maneuvered his arm and the hook released. The human from another world flew over the female and all four Glavenus looked very surprised to see him flying through the air.
Fallout Boy: So light 'em up up up, light 'em up up up
Light 'em up up up, I'm on fire
Ooh oh oh oh (in the dark-dark)
Ooh oh oh oh (in the dark-dark)
Jacob landed in a crouch between the three and the female before jumping out of the way of one's tail when they swung it at him. Jacob then jumped onto the back of one of the two. The wyvern started thrashing about while the other two looked a little lost on what to do. Holding his sword into the arm with the shield, he fired the grappling hook again and it smacked into the face of one of the other two. It got results as the young Glavenus whom he hit growled and glared at the teen. The Brute Wyvern roared before charging and lowering his head. The one that Jacob was riding on wasn't prepared when it was suddenly tackled into by the other Glavenus. Jacob was quick to jump off just as they fell to the ground.
Fallout Boy: All the writers keep writing what they write
Somewhere another pretty veins just dies
From the side lines, Ares had been able to watch his pupil through the flames. While he had been greatly worried for the human when the competition started, the Glavenus began to relax when he saw that Jacob was doing pretty well. And while he couldn't truly turn his face like he had seen his human friend do, Ares could feel a sense of pride in his heart.
Fallout Boy: I've got the scars from tomorrow ad I wish you could see
That you're the antidote to everything except for me
Back inside the ring of fire, Jacob had landed on his feet and looked about for anymore dangers. He was unaware that the student of the scarred Glavenus had managed to sneak around during human's actions and looked to take a bite out of the boy. But a roar from the side made both him and Jacob look to their left just as the young female Bladed Tail Wyvern charging for them. She managed to knock into her fellow Glavenus and it made Jacob cringe from the way that they crashed against the ground. The young male managed to push her off of him with a shove his foot before getting up and swinging his tail at her. He managed to catch her on the side of her head with the blunt side of his tail. The young female Glavenus cried out as she fell to the ground.
Fallout Boy: A constellation of tears on your lashes
Burn everything you love
The burn the ashes
Seeing that she was in trouble, Jacob didn't hesitate to rush forward and help her out. He came in from the side and with an upward slash he made the young male back away from his downed opponent. Jacob then moved himself between the male and the female who was picking herself up with a groan. Unbeknownst to either of the two, the other fights had practically ceased and their attention turned towards the two.
Fallout Boy: In the end everything collides
My childhood spat back out the monster that you see
The fires continued to burn around them as Jacob nor the young Glavenus moved. Their eyes narrowed as they continued to wait for the other to make a move. The two boys suddenly rushed toward each other to continue the battle. The young Brute Wyvern turned his body to slash at Jacob with his tail. Acting quickly, Jacob dropped down onto his knees as low as he could and slid across the ground. Time felt like it slowed down as the appendage passed over him. Only a few hairs were cut by the appendage as he slid underneath it. He got up again as the appendage moved away from him and tried to get in a horizontal slash on his opponent. The young Glavenus managed to move his body to where the blade scrapped against his back plates. Sparks flew as the sword trailed along.
Fallout Boy: My songs know what you did the in the dark
As he turned his body, Jacob was unprepared when the young Glavenus managed to land a hip check on him. The human fell onto his front and looked up to see the young male lifting up his foot to stomp on him. Rolling out of the way the foot crashed against the ground. Rising onto his knees with a spin, Jacob lashed out with his sword and managed to nick his opponent in the leg.
Fallout Boy: So light 'em up up up, light 'em up up up
Light 'em up up up, I'm on fire
The juvenile Glavenus let out a roar of pain from the wound he received. He was quick to retaliate by roughly bashing his head against the teen with a snarl. Jacob fell onto his back and tried to get up again when the Brute Wyvern smacked into him with his head again. The teen rolled across the ground before stopping on his side. With a groan he started to get up. But when he looked over to his opponent, Jacob gasped to see that the juvenile let loose a powerful fireball at him.
Fallout Boy: So light 'em up up up, light 'em up up up
Light 'em up up up, I'm on fire
Jacob couldn't dodge in time as the fireball came upon him. An explosion erupted where the teen once stood. All the Glavenus, inside and outside the burning arena, had watched the scene unfold. Ares moved towards the edge of the arena, worried about his friend/pupil. The female adult who was the mentor to the young female moved to stand next to her fellow Glavenus. On the other side of the arena, the Scarred One looked a little pleased that his pupil had shown his superiority against the human. Inside the burning circle, the young female looked to where the human once stood. In its place, was an unmoving lump covered in flames.
Fallout Boy: My songs know what you did in the dark
My songs know what you did in the dark
The apprentice to the scarred Glavenus moved closer to what he assumed was the human burning. He leaned forward and gave a small sniff to see if the boy was still alive. But what they didn't know, was that just before the fireball hit him, Jacob managed to cover himself with the fireproof cloak. The force of the blast had knocked him off his feet and he blacked out, but otherwise he was unharmed by the flames.
Fallout Boy: So light 'em up up up, light 'em up up up
Light 'em up up up, I'm on fire
Beneath the cloak, lying face down, Jacob slowly opened his eyes and lightly groaned at what just happened. Sweat dripped from him as he could feel the heat around him. He was thankful that he had managed to cover every part of him with the cloak. With a glare he decided it was time to end this.
Fallout Boy: So light 'em up up up, light 'em up up up
Light 'em up up up, I'm on fire
The young Glavenus lifted his head as if he were about to roar his victory when the shape before him started to move. With a twist of his body and a holler, Jacob used the cloak to disperse the flames while rising to his feet. Both he and the young Glavenus he was facing looked at each other with narrowed eyes. The action greatly surprised all the Bladed Tail Wyverns watching the match. With a yell, Jacob readied his blade and charged right at the young Glavenus. The Brute Wyvern took his stance as if to meet the human head on. But Jacob was more than ready for this.
Fallout Boy: Ooh oh oh oh (In the dark-dark)
Ooh oh oh oh (In the dark-dark)
He lashed his sword forward at his opponent, and the young Glavenus moved his tail to block the strike. But Jacob moved his sword out of the way at the last second and stepped on the tail and used his momentum to launch himself over the Glavenus. The male watched as Jacob went over him and twisted his body when he landed in a crouch. Jacob then swung his sword in a large circle. The young Glavenus stepped back. The human teen quickly took advantage of this by launching himself forward and smacking into the Brute Wyvern's side. The young male yelped in pain from the sudden blow and Jacob quickly followed up by firing his grappling hook. The hook wrapped around the Glavenus' legs. With a yank of his arm, Jacob managed to trip the juvenile up and the young wyvern crashed to the ground with a thud. The hook retracted back to the slinger as the Glavenus groaned as he lied there on the ground. When he opened his eyes again, the Glavenus gasped when he found the point of Jacob's sword pointed at him. The flames surrounding them died down and the canyon returned to its original colors.
Fallout Boy: Ooh oh oh
(End of track)
Standing over his fallen opponent, Jacob looked down at the young Glavenus. Seeing the look of defeat in his eyes, the human took a deep breath to calm himself before putting his Iron Katana away. A little surprised to see that Jacob had stopped, the young wyvern breathed a little easier. Deciding to be the honorable warrior, he moved around the young wyvern and started to help the young male to his feet. The young Glavenus seemed a little reluctant to receive the help, but he conceded and rose onto his feet. When he was sure that the young one could stand on his own, Jacob took a step back. The two looked at each other with unflinching looks before Jacob's softened first. Even the young male's gaze relaxed enough and Jacob bowed in respect to him. While once again surprised by the gesture, the young Glavenus bowed his own head in response.
But they were both startled when a roar sounded from the side. They looked to see the scarred Glavenus forcing his way through the crowd. Jacob and the young Glavenus had to back up when the adult moved between them. The scarred one had an intense glare as he growled at the human. The older Glavenus twisted his body to bring his bladed tail down on the boy and Jacob raised his shield arm to try and block the attack. But just before the appendage could touch him, another sword-like tail moved in the way and blocked the scarred one's.
Jacob looked to see that Ares had protected him from the scarred one's assault. The mentor looked down to his student to make sure that the human was all right. When he saw Jacob had not been harmed, Ares was able to shove the Scarred One back. The other male managed to keep his footing while glaring at the two. But before he could move to do anything, the three that had been standing on the stone platform moved between them.
They gave a series of grunts, growls and snarls at the Scarred One. The scarred Glavenus looked frustrated and embarrassed as his peers got in his face and he backed off. The one in the middle then turned to the rest of the gathered wyverns and let loose a roar that echoed through the canyon. Though the sound hurt his ears and made him wince, Jacob pushed that thought aside when the mentors rejoined their students in the remains of the burnt ring.
Ares lightly nudged Jacob forward with his head and the eight moved to where they all stood in a line again. The three elder Glavenus moved to where they stood before the line of masters and students. They once again looked over each of them, probably assessing how they did during the small battle. A moment later, their gaze once again fell upon Ares and Jacob. One of them walked up to the two and stopped before the human. Jacob was a little worried about what the elder would do. But all the veteran Glavenus did was give him a nod of approval before moving to stand with the other two again.
They all moved back onto the stone platform before turning to face the crowds of their peers again. They each gave a growl at the rows of masters and pupils. They gave a nod towards the mentors and Ares, the female, the Scarred One and the other five mentors moved forward before facing their students again. Ares, the female mentor and the others raised their tails and started to move them towards their apprentices, but the apprentice of the Scarred One backed away from his appendage. This did not go unnoticed by the rest of the gathering of the Glavenus. The Scarred One looked to his pupil with a stunned look and turned to face him, but the young Brute Wyvern moved away from his master.
The Scarred One watched as the young male Glavenus walk towards the crowd of Glavenus. The older members moved to make room for the juvenile. The Scarred One looked to his former pupil before looking over to Jacob and Ares with a glare. Even from where he was standing, Jacob could tell that this Glavenus was hating them with a passion. With a huff, the scarred Glavenus walked towards the crowd of Brute Wyvern and left through the passage of the canyon.
When he was gone from their sights, the rest of the mentors turned their attention back to their pupils. They leaned their bladed tails forward and Jacob stood still as Ares lightly touched his shoulders with his bladed appendage. The Glavenus was careful not to press down on either shoulder when he moved his tail to the other. The teen felt like he was kind of being knighted or something. Ares, the female and the other mentors withdrew their tails. Some of the mentors then walked with their students down the canyon.
Ares lightly nudged his own pupil forward with his head after them. The two walked with the two females joining them with the two apprentices in front. While Ares and the older female seemed to acknowledge each other and give their fellow Bladed Tail Wyvern a respectful nod, the young female lightly bumped the human with her side. Jacob stumbled a bit before righting himself and looking to the young female. She had an appreciative look in her eyes as she walked alongside him. The human teen laughed and said, "Yeah, well, we're even. You saved me and I saved you. And I think that you fought well."
The young female Glavenus gave his shoulder a small nudge of his head as if saying thank you. As they walked past the other masters and students when they stopped the apprentices, the younger members assumed their stances and maneuvered their tails to catch the appendage in their mouths. Jacob was becoming quite curious as to what was going on. He slowed his walking to see what was going on.
The young Glavenus sharpened their tails with their teeth before whipping out their appendages. The bladed tails were glowing and Jacob watched as they scrapped their appendages along the wall under one of the bigger markings. Jacob wondered if this was some rite of passage for Glavenus. Ares stopped next to Jacob and watched as the other apprentices finished leaving their mark on the canyon wall. Jacob looked up to the Glavenus and could tell that he was thinking about something. The Bladed Tail Wyvern then looked down to the human and then motioned with his head to continue on. The four moved to the end of the canyon. The females bid Jacob and Ares goodbye with a couple of small growls and headed towards the north. While they walked off, Ares suddenly lowered himself down and offered Jacob a ride. Though he didn't know where Ares was wanting to take him, Jacob decided to humor him and climbed onto the Glavenus' back. When he was sitting to where he could hang on, Ares lifted himself up and started to head southward.

Author's Note: We're coming to the end of this little mini-arc. The next chapter is the finale for it and then we move on to the next new friend. And this was honestly a pretty big chapter. It's the third longest word wise. We will be seeing the Scarred One and maybe his former pupil plus the two females again, but we'll just have to wait and see. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you all next time.
