A/N: And now we come to a fun and exciting time that I've been wanting to do. Plus, I do have a few bystanders planned, though there will not be any interaction with them. Chapter Fifty-Two: Master and Apprentice

Part Four – The Blades of the Desert Rematch

The sun was once again starting to sink in the west and soon the day would be over once more. The two walked a great distance to the south and found themselves in a familiar spot in the Wildspire Wastes. When they reached the entrance under the bridge to the shaded forest, the Glavenus stopped to let Jacob off. The human jumped off of the Brute Wyvern's back and landed next to him. Ares took Jacob all the way to where they had first met, the waterfall by the first camp and stone bridge. Ares made his way across the river while Jacob stayed behind at the opening to the forest. The teen was getting a feeling of why they were here and became nervous about it.

When he made it across the river, Ares looked back to the human and noticed the unsure look on the boy's face. The Glavenus was looking like he needed to reconsider what he was wanting. But doubts were quickly pushed aside when Jacob shook his head to clear it. Taking a deep breath, Jacob made his way across the river. The Glavenus watched as the teen wade through the water before making it across. Jacob then moved onto the bridge and tightened the red cloak before pulling the hood over his head and looked to the shield on his arm. He decided to leave it behind for the time being and removed it from his person. He placed the shield in a spot where it wouldn't get in the way. The human carefully walked backwards as Ares walked onto the bridge. When they were on opposite sides of the stone bridge, Jacob slowly unsheathed his blade. Both human and Glavenus assumed their stances and stared intensely at each other.

(Cue Kakarot vs Broly from DBS: Broly)

Ares lightly scrapped his tail along the ground and stomped his foot, creating small cracks in the ground. The Glavenus then gave a quick shake of his body before letting loose his roar.

Glavenus!

Jacob moved his neck to where he heard it pop a couple of times. He then took a deep breath and tightened the grip on his sword.

Jacob!

The two friends didn't waste a minute as they charged for each other. They got closer and closer with each step, almost like they were going to ram into the other. Jacob was quick to swing the Iron Katana and his mentor blocked the strike with his tail. The human blocked a swing from the Bladed Tail Wyvern with his naked shield arm and it caused him to slide back a little.

The human jumped back more when the Glavenus tried to bring his jaws down on the teen. Jacob then jumped onto Ares' head and managed to grab one of his horns. Ares lifted his head and started shaking it around to make Jacob fall off. With a small push from his foot, Jacob jumped off the Glavenus, somersaulted in the air and landed in a superhero pose a few yards from the Brute Wyvern.

With a small roar, Ares turned towards the human and swung his tail at him again. Jacob had to back away to avoid getting cut by the tip of the bladed appendage. The teen rushed forward again and tried to land a slash on the Glavenus' side. But Ares was quick to turn his body and managed to grab the Iron Katana in his maw mid-swing. Jacob cried out as he was yanked off his feet.

The human lost his grip on his sword and fell away from the Glavenus when the wyvern turned his body. Jacob was able to save himself by rolling across the ground before getting back onto his feet. He turned to Ares and tried to think of a way to get his sword back. Unlike their first meeting with letting Jacob get his weapon back, Ares decided to be a little more hardcore by throwing the human's sword over to the river. The tip of the blade landed in the water and stood for a moment before falling over in the water with a splash. While a little ticked off from the move, Jacob knew that he couldn't dwell on it when Ares came rushing at him. Not wasting a moment, Jacob ran forward as well. When the Glavenus started to lunge for him, Jacob dropped down and twisted his body to where he fell off the stone bridge. Ares looked over the side to see the human land in the water with a splash. Getting up with a small sputter and shook his head to get the water off of him, Jacob knew that he didn't have a lot of time to look around for his sword. A roar made him look up to see the Glavenus preparing to jump down.

Jacob rushed over to where he had last seen his sword, but was immediately thrown off his feet when Ares landed in the river behind him with a large splash. The human landed with another splash and started to pick himself up when he felt Ares' head knock into him from the side. This time Jacob landed in the river on his back and started to rise up. But before he could fully get up, he saw Ares' foot coming down on him. The wind was practically knocked out of the teen when Ares slammed him back down into the rushing water. Though he didn't apply any pressure, the Glavenus effortlessly kept the human pinned down. Jacob could hardly hold his breath with his head under the water. But he couldn't get up with Ares' foot holding him down. If he didn't do something soon, he would run out of air or would have to tap out or something to let Ares let him up. Twisting his head around, Jacob's eyes widened when he saw something not too far from him. He could see the hilt of his Iron Katana laying in the water laying with it in arm's length of him.

Maneuvering his slinger arm past his head, Jacob strained to reach the weapon. His lungs burned as he kept trying to reach for it. His fingers lightly brushed against it, but he still couldn't quite grasp it. Standing above him, Ares watched the human's struggling to get his weapon back. He wasn't enjoying this, but the Glavenus knew that Jacob's training would help him. But he did also know that if his pupil didn't do something soon, then he would have to stop the match.

Beneath the water, Jacob still couldn't reach the weapon and his vision was starting to get a little hazy from the lack of air. Deciding to switch tactics, the human from another world raised his slinger arm out of the water. Ares tilted his head in confusion from this. A second later, Jacob fired the grappling hook at his mentor. The hook sailed right for Ares' face and the Glavenus had to move his head back to avoid having it hit him in the eye. But by doing this, his foot lifted a little off the boy. Feeling a little more room to move, Jacob scooted his body up a little and with his other arm he grabbed the hilt of his Iron Katana.

With a twist of his arm, he managed to slash at the Glavenus' foot a little. Ares cried out from the sudden cut and backed off of the human. Jacob quickly rose from the water and gasped to let the air fill his lungs with fresh air. He coughed up what water may have found its way in. When he felt okay again, the sopping wet Jacob looked over to his friend. The Glavenus was just standing there, looking at his friend/pupil. The human quickly moved back into his stance and though Ares looked a little reluctant to continue, he reassumed his own stance.

Jacob then rushed at his teacher with his blade at the ready. He swung it at Ares, but the Glavenus managed to jump back and started to circle around his human pupil. The two's movement was slow for a few seconds as they watched their opponent closely. Ares gave a small growl while Jacob's eyes narrowed.

The two once again charged forward and they threw their respective blades forward. Sparks flew as the blades clashed and the two combatants repeated the actions after adjusting themselves in the river. When Jacob lunged forward with the sword raised, Ares blocked the weapon with his tail. With a growl the Glavenus pushed the human away with a big push of his tail. Jacob stumbled under the bridge before coming to a stop. His eyes widened when Ares came at him and turned to get some room. He ran alongside the river, but his eyes widened when he was starting to run out of room. When he managed to come to a stop at the falls before the marshes he turned to see the Bladed Tail Wyvern still coming at him. Jacob held his sword in front of him when Ares swung his tail in an upward swing. The bladed tail didn't touch the human teen personally, but the force of the blow knocked him back and he ended up flying through the air, over the rushing water and down into the marshes.

Sayonara!

Jacob crashed against the muddy ground and tumbled a bit before stopping in a deeper part of the marsh. With a groan the boy picked himself up. His body felt pretty sore evidenced by the grimace look on his face. But he knew that it was far from over when he looked up the small waterfall. Ares was already jumping through the air and landed at the bottom of the falls with a big splash. The Glavenus gave the boy a small growl as if asking was he still willing to continue. Taking a deep breath, Jacob moved the sword into his ready position with a grin as his answer.

Unbeknownst to the two, Mama Rath happened to be flying over the desert again when she spotted the two standing in the marshes. She dropped down on a rock wall across far across from where they battled and watched them. At another opening further down from where the two were, Grumper appeared around a corner and could see the action from where he stood.

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Go Broly, Go! Go!

In the middle of the marshes, Jacob and Ares continued with their rematch. The human and Glavenus rushed forward with the latter jumping up into the air and turned his body. The smaller combatant jumped out of the way as Ares' tail slammed into the mud. The human then came around the Brute Wyvern's head and with a yell he slashed upward. The blade scraped against the Glavenus' chin and the bigger fighter backed up before spinning his entire body. Jacob ducked down in the mud to avoid the sharp appendage and felt the brief feel of air as it passed over him. Standing up again, Jacob was knocked off his feet when Ares knocked him down with a quick hip bump. Falling onto his side in the mud, the teen looked up to see Ares about to lunge his head at him.

Kakarot!

Brolio!

Kakarot!

Brolio!

Kakarot!

Brolio-Yeaho!

Quickly getting an interesting idea, Jacob scooped up some mud with his hand and threw it into the Glavenus' face. The mud splattered against the Brute Wyvern's left eye and it distracted Ares from his attack. He shook his head to rid himself of the mud while Jacob moved to get back onto his feet. When he stood on his own two feet again, Jacob held his sword at the ready just as Ares managed to get the mud out of his eye. With a growl the Glavenus looked to the human who returned it with hard stare of his own.

Brolio!

Brolio!

Brolio-Yeaho!

(2x)

Like every other time during the match, the two charged forward. Jacob blocked a strike from Ares' tail with his sword and stumbled back in the mud. After regaining his footing, Jacob lunged forward with a swing that was parried by Ares' tail again. The two repeated the swipes of their respective blades with either pushing one back, putting the other on the defensive and never really landing a full blow on the other.

After another exchange between the two, Ares changed tactics by stabbing the tip of his tail into the ground. Jacob was greatly confused by the tactic as he rushed at his mentor. The Glavenus then twisted his body around in a circle and flung water, grass and mud into the air with his tail. The teen raised his arms to shield himself from the debris. But it ended up costing Jacob when Ares smacked into him with another hip bump. Once again the human fell against the muddy ground because of the maneuver.

Feeling a little tired of that, Jacob got up and once again rushed for the Glavenus. Ares lunged forward with his jaws wide open and Jacob twisted his body to where they narrowly missed the other. The human then jumped onto the back of Ares' neck and held on tight when the Glavenus started thrashing about. The Brute Wyvern ran over to one of the many trees growing in the marsh and moved to ram his side into it to try and dislodge the boy from his side. But before the Glavenus' side could make contact with the tree, Jacob was able to move himself along Ares' body to where he held on from the other side. The Brute Wyvern collided with the tree and it fell over. The ruined tree landed with a splash as Ares continued to thrash around when he still felt the boy clinging to him.

Trying to keep as still as he could, Jacob couldn't hold on when Ares suddenly fell onto his side. The boy was thrown from the Glavenus' back and landed in the mud. Lifting himself up and spitting out any mud that might have gotten into his mouth, the human looked over to his opponent. With a quick motion of his body, Ares managed to get back onto his feet.

Sayonara!

Ares decided to kick things up a notch by twisting his tail around and catching the appendage in his mouth. He kept a grip on it as he pulled the bladed tail across his outer teeth and the blade started glowing. When the tail came out again as Ares roared, it was glowing red hot and the sight made Jacob worry a little. Even from the sidelines, both Mama Rath and Grumper became worried when they saw the turn of events.

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Go Broly, Go! Go!

Jacob was really put on the defensive when Ares came at him and swung his glowing tail in a wide arc. He moved back a couple of times to try and avoid the appendage. The human tried to shield himself with his sword, but he felt the heat from Ares' tail when it struck his sword and knocked him back. As he fell against the ground, Jacob doubted he could take another hit like that. He lifted his head to see Ares coming up to him. Starting to get up, Jacob's hand splashed in deeper water and he got an idea.

Rising to his feet, Jacob managed to stay a step ahead of Ares when the Glavenus swung his tail. The human made sure to keep back or duck each time the Brute Wyvern tried to strike him with his appendage. Jacob ducked down one last time when he felt his feet splash in deeper water. As expected, the Bladed Tail Wyvern seemed to grow agitated by this and assumed the familiar stance that he was about to use his signature move. Just as the Glavenus was about to jump, Jacob's right eye glanced back to the deeper part of the marsh. Ares leapt up into the air and twisted his body to where he could bring his sword tail down. Jacob quickly jumped out of the way just as the tail slammed down. As the human had hoped, the tail splashed down in the deeper spot of water of the marsh and a small cloud of steam erupted. Ares gave startled yelp as he pulled out his now cooled off tail from the water. With a quick swing of the appendage, he shook the water off the bladed tail before looking to his pupil with a small glare.

Kakarot!

Brolio!

Kakarot!

Brolio!

Kakarot!

Brolio-Yeaho!

Ares unleashed his roar again while Jacob reassumed his ready stance. In a short sprint, the two were on each other again. Time seemed to slow down as they prepared their attacks. The Glavenus swung his tail horizontally while Jacob raised his slinger arm and fired the grappling hook. The hook managed to latch on to the back plate and the human zipped through the air before the appendage could touch him. Everything felt like it sped up again as Jacob ended up flying over his mentor and dropping down on the other side. He landed and rolled across the ground. When he rose to his feet, both he and Ares turned to face each other. Both lashed out with their blades pointed at the other and the two were coming awfully close to the other.

Brolio!

Brolio!

Brolio-Yeaho!

(2x)

From their respective spots, both Grumper and Mama Rath watched with wide eyes. But Jacob and Ares two stopped when their blades were nearly touching the other. The tips of their respective blades were merely an inch from either their side or their face. They both looked quite pleased that their rematch ended in a draw.

(End of track)

The two panted after such a lengthy and intense battle between them. Jacob and Ares withdrew their respective weapons away from each other. The Bladed Tail Wyvern then rose to where he was looking down at his pupil. While putting his sword away, Jacob wondered what he would do. But all Ares did was give him a nod of approval and a smile grew on the human's face.

From their respective spots, both Mama Rath and Grumper saw that they didn't need to fear for their human friend with this Glavenus. The Rathian then jumped from her perch on the rocks and twisted up into the air while Grumper turned to head back to the Ancient Forest his own way.

Back over with the two, Ares motioned for Jacob to follow him with his head again. Wondering where the Glavenus was taking him this time, the teen followed his friend. The two friends walked through the marshes to the opening that would lead up to the second camp but continued on past it when they made it up the slope. They came back up to the bridge and Ares turned to the left path. The Glavenus led his pupil up to a rock wall and Jacob looked up to see that Ares had stopped before the marking that he had made on the day that they met.

Jacob looked up to the Bladed Tail Wyvern and Ares nodded to the marking in the rock. The teen guessed that he wanted his pupil to make his mark. Not sure how exactly to do this, Jacob pulled the Iron Katana from its sheath and held the blade out from him. Ares carefully grabbed the blade of Jacob's sword in his teeth and held on. Holding on to the hilt with both hands, Jacob pulled with all his might as best as he could. The boy started to sweat when he felt the Glavenus' maw heat up and saw his throat turning red. A moment later, Jacob managed to pull the sword out of Ares' mouth with a swift motion and Jacob was awed at the blade glowing in front of him. The heat emanating from the blade caused him to sweat a little. With a quick motion of his head, the Glavenus then urged Jacob to quickly make his mark. Stepping up to the wall where Ares had made his mark, Jacob stabbed the end of his sword into the rock and started moving the blade horizontally as best as he could. The heated blade slowly created a groove in the rock.

A moment later, Jacob pulled the sword from the rock wall and looked to the mark he had made. Though not as long as Ares' mark above it, it was a pretty decent mark. The Glavenus gave a contented growl at the job. He lowered his head next to the human and gave the boy a light nudge as if to say well done. Jacob grinned and said, "Thanks.

"It was an interesting experience." He honestly nodded, remembering their training together. The glowing sword cooled off a moment later, but Jacob felt that he needed to give it a moment more to cool off. Placing the blade against the rock, he turned to face his mentor. Ares looked to him too and Jacob asked him, "So, I guess that we're no longer master and apprentice now, are we?"

Ares answered him with a sad groan to tell him that it's true. Jacob too was sad that that time was over as well, despite how it began and nearly ended abruptly. With a shrug the teen asked, "So what are we now? Friends?"

The Glavenus gave a grunt that sounded a bit like a laugh and moved his bladed tail around his former pupil. This action gave Jacob another idea and asked him, "Then what? Kind of like a family?"

That made Ares lift his head high and let loose a happy sounding roar that told the human that he really liked that idea. Jacob liked that idea too and lightly brushed his hand against the Glavenus' side. He lightly laughed and said, "To be honest, I kind of thought of you like a brother to me."

Ares returned the feeling by moving to where he could give Jacob a light, yet strong nudge with his head. The teen chuckled as he stumbled a bit to keep his footing. With a shrug he offered, "I don't think that I need to go back to the Ancient Forest right now. Maybe we could spend a little more time together."

From the look in his eye, Ares seemed as if he would like nothing better. Jacob then took his Iron Katana back and thankfully it no longer felt warm. Hoping that it was safe to put it away, Jacob put it back into the scabbard. He turned his head to find Ares standing at the shore of the river, waiting for his human brother to join him. With a small grin, Jacob ran to join his Glavenus brother and managed to pick up his shield as he ran towards the river.

But little did they know, that from the opening that one could see the waterfall from the first desert camp, a figure had been watching most of their battle. The figure was a short-robed, the robes colored like the dunes and had a hat that looked like it was made from the dry twigs of the desert. The twigs on the hat completely covered the person's face, but it didn't prevent them from seeing as they watched the human and the Glavenus walk across the river into the shaded forest. In what sounded like a deep, raspy voice the figure said, "It is almost time.

"Thankfully, he is nearly ready." The figure said as he watched the two disappear through the opening.

Author's Note: And with that, the Ares the Glavenus mini-arc is done. The next mini-arc also consists of another Master Rank monster from World. But you'll just have to wait and see which one. I know that neither Mama Rath nor Grumper did anything, but their main role in this chapter was to be spectators to see what Jacob had been doing while he was gone. There won't be a filler arc between the mini-arcs unless I feel otherwise, so basically we're moving right into the next arc. And thankfully, I've got the monster's moves written down and have faced it before I was forced to start the game over. I know that you're wondering what the First Wyvern must be talking about, and don't worry, things will be explained in time. Also, very stoked for Monster Hunter 6. Monster Hunter has truly changed my life in a way. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you all next time.
