It was getting colder outside, Mayla and her grandfather were walking to Freddy's for a new day. Today Mayla had a bag on her arm, it had her christmas gifts for everyone. Her grandfather had his bag as well with all kinds of things to help Sun and Moon with the kids. When they came in there was only the short staff and the robots. Mayla set about putting little hats on the wet floor signs, and mop warmers to the STAF bots. She hoped the other animatronics would come for a visit today. As they entered the daycare area Mayla ran to the slide. When she popped out of the balls Moon flew down to pull her out of the ballpit.
"Hello, Little pumpkin," Moon said. Mayla giggled as he booped her nose, then gave her a hair ruffling. He hadn't even undid his hook, probably debating taking her up to his and Harriette's shared room. Bram-paw leaned over the railing over the daycare and waved. Moon waved back. The two shared a thumbs up then Bram-paw headed off toward the non robot staff thing he had to do. Moon turned his attention back to Mayla.
"I made all kinds of things for everyone, Mi- I mean moon," Mayla said stopping herself from calling Moon mis again it had happened often after full moons. The moon in the sky was a girl after all but Moon's name was moon so she sometimes got confused. Mixed up. Moon didn't seem to mind too much. Moon nodded and pointed up to his room, Sun was probably already adjusting the camera's so they wouldn't see them.
"It's way too early for little pumpkins to be awake just yet," He said. "How about we go up and you can join Harriette for a little extra sleeping."
"Okay, I made you and Sun a scarf," Mayla said, pulling out a nice hand made scarf that was bright colors on one side and glowing softly on the other.
"Oh, that's so pretty, and very cool looking," Moon said. "I'll wear it."
"My dad made special glowing yarn for me to use. said something about it not being as bright as he needed." Mayla fighting through her yawns. Moon had pulled them up and was already walking into the room he and Sun and Harriette shared.
"That's very cool," Moon said, "I love it very much." he said, tucking the girl into the bed next to Harriette who instantly cuddled into the older girl. Moon ruffled both his girls' hair as Mayla drifted off to sleep.
Moon admired his new scarf for a moment before wrapping it around his shoulder.
It's so cute! Sun's coes from his place in their mind, checking the cameras and making adjustments to daily plans. A notification told them another of their favorite little ones was returning to the plex. They weren't surprised, since there was a staff meeting and Emelia's parents had been on staff since the plex had opened. Moon stepped out onto the balcony and waited for Emelia to drop into the ballpit. Well more like she dropped into the ballpit about a second later. Moon dropped on the wire to collect the girl. He did not do the same as he'd done with Mayla and pick her up while still attached to the wire. Her parents would have an absolute conniption. He did still scoop her up into his arms.
"Moon!" She whispered quietly, but excited, before a yawn broke up what would have been a long talking session. Moon ruffled her hair.
"Mornin' Pumpkin," he said, now that her parents were out of earshot. He didn't really think it was fair that he and Sun practically raised her and yet couldn't give her a cute nickname. She was one of his girls after all. And she liked it too. She'd literally asked why they'd stopped liking her enough to call her pumpkin.
"Mornin' Moonie," She yawned again, before laying her head against his shoulder. A soft contented sigh coming out. "Is Mayla here?"
"Mmm-hmm," Moon said, running a hand through her messy hair. They hadn't even taken the time to brush her hair. Mayla's grandparents happily accepted the affection that Sun and Moon gave to Mayla. So it didn't leave him nearly as confused as Emelia's messy hair. Why were they shunting off all the parental responsibilities to Sun and Moon if they weren't going to at least let them give the girl the appropriate amount of affection.
Emelia yawned again. Moon smiled, ruffling her hair.
"Let's get you to bed for a little more sleep," Moon said, affection warming him. She nodded, smiled, cuddling into his ruffles. He took her up to join Mayla and Harriette as they slept, the first two of his girls still asleep snuggling Emelia with them. Emelia for her part accepted the comfort of her two best friends. Moon retucked the three in, there weren't going to be any new additions until the daycare was actually open. Moon flinched at the sound of a clicking whirring noise behind him, and the flash of a camera. Moon looked back to the other being in the room. He must have woken Kreacher with the two descents into the daycare proper. The house elf grinned at him smugly, holding out the photo of Moon tucking the three girls in. Kreacher had chosen a pretty decent spot too, Moon wasn't in the way of the three girls snuggling in Harriette's bed, Moon's hand; gently soothing Emelia's hair, was visible. But he wasn't in a position so that the flash of the camera would have affected Moon's night vision. The photo was adorable, even with Moon's hand half obscuring Emelia's thick brown curls. Though the scarf Mayla had gifted them was wrapped around them and plainly visible.
"Awe," Moon said. "You're getting really good at that."
"Thank you, si- Moon," Kreacher was still getting used to being on equal footing with those around him. He'd gotten more comfortable with Emelia, it helped that Harriette and Moon both talked fondly of her and she'd never been anything but nice, if not a bit nosy. But he'd mentioned that he'd been taught to dislike muggles, people without magic, from so young he barely remembered a time before it. There'd been a long adjustment period but Moon was happy to see he was settled more comfortably with them now.
Sun was working quietly on one of the S.T.A.F.F bots fixing a wheel that had come undone. Monty stood beside his desk. He'd initially fiddled with his hands but he'd calmed down now that the damage he'd done was being repaired. His eyes were focused on the three girls tucked in and sleeping under the vent. He kept making affectionate noises. Sun would have been annoyed with the noises if he was making them for any other reason.
"Alright, that should do it!" Sun whispered, setting the S.T.A.F.F. bot on its feet. She moved herself back and forth a few times before giving a thumbs up. "Thanks for bringing her in." Sun said. Monty gave a thumbs up. His voice box was designed to be loud, he wasn't given volume control like some of the others. So it made sense that he wouldn't want to risk the noise. He did send a message over the hub.
'Merry Christmas, Sun," he said. 'Merry Christmas, Moon.' Sur would have raised an eyebrow at it. 'You deserve your own Christmas greetings.' Monty sent back before Sun could even reply.
'Thanks, Merry Christmas to you too Monty,' Sun said.
'Holiday greetings!' K.Y sent.
"Have a good day," Sun whispered, as he took the S.T.A.F.F. bot up and placed it on the walkway above the daycare. They waved good-bye to each other, before Sun returned to his room. Moon getting rid of the suspicious visuals on the camera. Monty was still standing by their desk, watching the kids sleep.
"Jealous," Sun teased, organizing his tools back into their place.
'A little,' Monty sent back.
'What?'
'I'm a little jealous,' Monty said. 'They're adorable.'
"They are," Sun said. "I didn't think you liked kids." Sun said. "Except maybe when they're asleep."
'What made you think that?' Monty made this choked sound and both of them froze waiting to see if they'd accidentally woken the girls.
"You're always complaining about them," Sun said.
'I've never complained about a child before,' Monty said. 'They're parents though.' Sun laughed. Amazed that he'd ever thought any of his friends would choose to trust a human adult of Sun and his daughter. Freddy had been the last hold out. He'd spent a few days quiet, but eventually he'd gotten over it. Mostly. He worried and fretted but didn't turn any of them in.
'So, what are your plans this year?' Monty asked. 'Chica was hoping we could hold a party." Moty said. 'Talked about it during practice. There's going to be a human staff party at the bar too. So, Emelia and Mayla could be there too.'
"That does sound fun," Sun said. "I'll ask them."
'Kool,' Monty said. 'Later gator.'
"You're a gator, I'm Sun," Sun said. And the two parted ways.
Harriette was the first to wake up, though it made sense she was used to waking up at this time and she hadn't been forced out of bed at way too early o'clock. Still she'd been very excited to see two of her best friends with her. She nearly vibrated out of her skin while Sun was braiding her shoulder length hair into a pair of loose pig tails. Her hair was too untamable to keep them tight. Still they were adorable so Sun was going to take it. Harriette eagerly set up the gifts she'd prepared for her friends. She'd been so excited to get able to make them something.
"Do you think they'll like their presents?" Harriette asked. Sun ruffled her hair.
"I'm sure they will," Sun said.
"Where's Kreacher?" Harriette asked.
"He's helping Chica set up for a christmas party," Sun said. "It's his first one too, so he's pretty excited." Harriette beamed.
"G'morning Harriette?" Mayla mumbled. Harriette's smile couldn't have gotten brighter if she'd tried. The two girls hugged. Greeting each other.
"Merry X-tmas Harriette," Mayla said.
"Merry X?-mas!" It was clear that Harriette didn't' know what that meant but it was still cute that she copied the older girl.
"Morning already?" Emelia said, then brightened at the sight before her. "My Favorite!" She shouted launching out of Harriette's bed and hugging the other two girls whilst still managing to wave to Sun. She waved him over and the four shared a hug.
"I made you guys presents!" Harriette was the first to break away, more excited to be able to give gifts then receive them.
"Oh," Emelia said. "That's really, really nice, but I don't have anything for either of you." Emelia said.
"That's okay, we knew your parents didn't celebrate," Harriette and Mayla had started together and corrected slightly to match. Sun thought it was cute. "Is it okay for us to give you a present anyways?" Harriette asked. Emelia thought about it for a moment, before nodding.
"It should be fine," Emelia said.
"Do you want to go first?" Harriette asked. "Mine's probably not as good as yours 'cause I couldn't really leave the plex for anything." Mayla patted Harriette's arm.
"I'm sure I'll like your gifts the same amount," Emelia said. "It's the thought that counts." Harriette nodded.
"You can go first if it makes you feel better," Mayla said. Harriette nodded. Picking her gift for Emelia and Mayla out.
"I got you both gifts," Harriette said.
"Now I feel even worse about not having a gift for you," Emelia said.
"It's okay, I have plenty," Harriette said. "And I wanted to give you both something." Mayla and Emelia opened their gifts. It was a picture and picture frame that Harriette made after her school work was done. Both pictures were of the three girls together with Ginny. Sun had taken the picture with the camera they'd gotten from Monty. The frames were made with popsicle sticks and other things Harriette could get easily around the daycare and pizzaplex. She'd put a lot of thought and effort into each. Mayla's was purple and blue, decorated with her favorite glamrock Bonnie and stars. Emelia's had various kinds of dogs added and was painted blue.
Mayla's gifts were just as fancy as the scarf she'd made for Sun and Moon. She gave Emelia a matching hat and gloves set. Harriette got an at least partially home-made spider.
"These are perfect," Emelia said. "Very practical, but also really pretty," Emelia said. The hat and Scarf both had sparkly little bees on it.
"When the lights go out they turn into fireflies," Mayla said proudly.
"Ah, that's so wicked," Emelia said. Sliding on her new hat. Harriette was too busy kissing her new toy spider to say anything.
"It's eyes glow too," Mayla informed.
"No way!" Harriette said, bouncing. Sun smiled watching the girls fawn over their gifs. Emelia looked upset.
"You can always make them a card or gift here in the daycare," Sun said, ruffling the girl's hair.
"But then it won't be a surprise," Emelia said.
"It doesn't have to be a surprise, and besides we just like spending time with you!" Harriette said, hugging onto her. Mayla joined.
"Yeah!" Mayla said.
The Weasley's didn't always come by for Christmas, but Ginny had insisted that her family at least stop by so that she could say merry christmas to Harriette. Harriette and Mayla had excitedly joined the girl up by the gate. Exchanging gifts, and hugs and well wishes for the new year.
Sun knew from watching her make it that it was a picture of Ginny with her favorite Glamrock Roxanne Wolf. Harriette had carefully chosen the colors to match the two subjects. Mayla helped the younger girl wrap the scarf Mayla made her around her shoulders. In Roxanne Wolf's colors.
Moon walked with the younger girls, none of the few human staff remaining were present in the pizzaplex so the bots had free run of the place. The plex being closed really meant it was just him and his three charges and a few S.T.A.F.F. Bots roaming around. Harriette was holding Moon's hand, and Emalia and Mayla were just a little farther ahead arriving at DJ Music-man's arcade. It was the largest space in the whole plex, large enough to have all the bots be present. It also was the only place DJ Music-man could actually be.
This was ultimately why Kreacher's help was needed. Keeping the decorations invisible till now. Or at least unnoticed by the muggle staff. Sun wasn't entirely sure how it worked. Still there'd already been a bunch of decorations up for the holidays, so maybe he just made them blend in with those.
"Moonpie, Sunny!" Chica called, outstretching her arms to hug. Moon accepted the hug and returned it with one arm. "Hallow, Harriette." She said crouching down to offer the girl a hug. Harriette hugged her happily.
"Merry Christmas Chica." Emelia said, tackling hugging the animatronic chicken. At the same time.
"Merry X-max, Chica," Mayla said, joining the group hug.
"Merry Christmas little ones," Chica said. She let the girls so she could ruffle their heads.
"Kreacher!" Harriette called, going to the house elf to hug him. "Merry Christmas Kreacher."
"Merry Christmas Harriette," Kreacher said.
"Oh, you arrived, and you brought the little ones," Freddy said, coming from around the corner carrying Christmas favors with Bonnie.
"Merry Christmas kiddos!" Monty shouted from behind the two.
"Merry Christmas Monty!" Emelia said. "Merry christmas Freddy and-"
"Bonnie!" Mayla shrieked. Moon wondered when Mayla would get over the excitement of seeing him. If she ever would. Still he chuckled affectionately watching as she almost tackled him. Monty helping prevent the girl from getting crushed by what Bonnie was carrying.
"Careful, little one," Bonnie said, chuckling, returning the hug. Emelia was a lot more patient with her favorite Glamrock, if only barely. Bouncing next to him as he set down the box he'd been carrying and then offering the girl a hug. Harriette came back to Join Moon. Who would have been grinning even if his smile wasn't permanent. He settled down next to her and ruffled her hair.
"No Ginny this time," Roxie asked, joining them from somewhere in the direction they'd come. Moon chuckled. She sounded nervous, and sad, trying to cover with bravado.
"No, Ginny's spending Christmas with her family," Moon said. "Sorry."
"Merry Christmas, Roxie," Harriette said smiling. "Ginny will be here next week."
"Merry Christmas, Harriette," Roxie said. "And thanks. I she-" Harriette got closer and gestured for her to lean down closer.
"Don't worry, Ginny won't forget about you," Harriette whispered. Roxie rolled her eyes, despite her clear relief.
"Of course she wouldn't, I'm the best," Roxie tried to boast, but Harriette putting a hand on her got her to smile, and ruffled her hair. "Thanks." She whispered that part. Even though all the animatronics knew she was actually very insecure despite her boast, everyone pretended they didn't. Letting her preserve her dignity, as well as ignore the fear of being decommissioned. All of them preferred not thinking about that part. Harriette smiled at the wolf animatronic. She returned the gesture before standing and giving Moon's shoulder a light punch.
"What's up punk?" Roxie asked.
"Nothing, what about you?" Moon said, giving her shoulder a light punch in turn.
"Eh, you know the usual," Roxie said. This was their usual greeting. Roxie being 'too cool' for normal interactions. Still Moon threw his free hand over the others shoulder and gave a quick side hug. She gripped his arm and let him pull her in. If she'd resisted he'd have stopped. Instead she threw her arm around his waist to ruffle Harriette's hair again then pulled them further into the fold. Kreacher was settled on Monty's shoulders to put up a few final decorations. Freddy and Bonnie were putting the boxes they'd brought with them in a decorative little pile. While Mayla and Emelia 'helped' Chica with the final box.
"Merry Christmas DJ," Moon said. "From me and Sun."
'Thank you, and you as well.' the DJ signed.
"Merry Christmas DJ." Harriette said, waving.
"Alright, now the party can begin," Chica said. Mayla reached into her bag and pulled out a handful of something which she tossed into the air and that lit up the space. Whatever they were they acted as floating lights. Sun marked the party as officially started and S.T.A.F.F bots of all varieties, and TinyMusic-Men came in to start the celebration. While most of the attendees couldn't eat, Chica still made sure there was enough for their human guests to eat. Monty turned on a music device and everyone danced. The lights swayed and danced to the music but were for the most part stationary. Harriette went around giving the gifts she'd made out to the various staff bots, and TinyMusic-men, as well as the animatronics. Moon danced with his little girls. Presents from each other the robots and glam rocks were passed out. Most were small things, easy to hide.
Mayla was gifted several shiny rocks, several novelty coins, and a lot of candies that Moon made her promise not to eat all in one night. She was also gifted a little hand made wire duck beaded with sparkling white plastic and stone. An embroidered handkerchief, with Bonnie and a full moon on it. Several plastic stars that all together weren't big enough to keep her from closing her hands. And a little yarn doll. Mayla thanked each gift giver with a grin.
Emelia was gifted a bumble bee hair clip, several different pairs of socks, and three shirts. As well as a bee bead bracelet, and a honeycomb comb. Sun wondered where Tinsel had even gotten the pilfered comb, but he'd shrugged the question off. Emelia had also been given far too much candy to consume in one night.
Harriette got several little trinkets: pins, pens, a set of earrings (This gifter assured they were sterilized first), a few plastic rings, keychains, and a necklace with a leather string. She was given a yarn doll of her own (from the same gifter as Mayla), a collection of marbles, and her own collection of candy. Smaller than the other girls since the other bots were more familiar with Harriette and what she liked. Each gift was treated as its own treasure. Tearfully hugged each to her chest.
Kreacher was the same with his own gifts. Fewer as they were, less personally bots were familiar with him.
Harriette Tugged Moon aside while the girls had joined a game of musical chairs. Moon and Harriette had already gotten out so it wasn't surprising.
"What's up, Pumpkin?" Moon asked, when Harriette had decided they were far enough away.
"I wanted to give you your presents," Harriette said. "I got one for both of you." She held up a pair of small bags.
"Oh," Moon said. "You didn't have to, having you and being here with everyone was good enough for us." Moon said. They'd received a few gifts. Sun had gotten a set of Tools that Roxie had swiped, and Moon had been given a drawing pad with near infinite paper (there were several different types) from Bram and Nova. Most of their gifts had been shared between them though. Since they shared a body and thus had to share a lot of their hobbies.
"I wanted to get my Daddies something," Harriette said. "I got lots of presents too, and all I needed was to be with you guys too." She was doing that petulant tone of voice. Why was the only time she was a brat at times like this? It was too cute!
"Alright," Moon said. Moon unwrapped his gift and found a framed drawing. Sun and Moon together holding hands with Harriette. The top of the frame labeled it as a family portrait, with the date and everything.
This is the cutest, sweetest thing, Sun said.
"I know you two can't be together physically and that makes you sad, but… I thought that might… that a picture could-" Harriette was fidgeting.
"This is perfect," Moon said.
"The other is different," Harriette said. "I know that's weird, but I figured that it would…"
Open mine, open mine! Sun chanted
"Sun can't wait to see his," Moon said. "Can I open it for him? It's too dark for him right now." Harriette nodded.
"If it's okay with him," Harriette said. She received an affirmative message from Sun at the same time Moon received another round of chanting.
Moon opened the bag, this one was different. It was a notebook, the first page a list of parts with several checked off. Sun recognized it as their parts. A location was written on the bottom. Harriette grinned.
"Oh!" Moon said.
"Does he- do you guys like it?" Harriette asked.
"It's the sweetest gift anyones ever given us!" Moon said, hugging her. They'd figure it out. Harriette hugged back. "You are being careful right?"
"I'm always careful," Harriette said. Moon grinned, putting his forehead to hers.
Eventually the three girls started to fall asleep, and it was time for Moon and Kreacher to take them back to the daycare and home. Sun kept Moon up-to-date on Bram's messages which kept them informed on how long the human staff were keeping themselves busy. Moon carried them back and tucked Harriette into bed. While Mayla and Emelia leaned against each other and tried not to fall asleep just yet.
They weren't able to stay awake as Moon held them waiting for their parents. Kreacher ended up taking another picture of them as they waited, before tucking away in his own sleeping place. Moon handed Emelia and Mayla to their parents who arrived around the same time.
Merry Christmas, Moonpie, Sun thought, as they settled back in their balcony room. Wish I could give you a big hug.
Merry Christmas, Sunshine, Moon thought back. With Harriette's present someday soon they would be able too. So Moon just hugged himself. Soon!
Soon!
