As to the pairing results from the poll? You will have to see based on the interactions between characters. You can guess but you just have to wait to see the end results. That said, let us begin the second chapter you all waited for.
'Thought'
Biggs and Wedge didn't know what to think of their predicament. Having monsters breach the fences or the fact two mysterious newcomers showed up, one wielding a unique weapon. A sword that is black as night with the secondary color dipped in silver. A symbol of a crown etched near the tip of it while a literal barrel revolver was melded near the hilt of the sword itself.
Such a weapon was never seen before by either of them. Swords were common but a sword with a barrel revolver? That was new. Hell, there was no sight of a gun barrel.
The cloaked girl who appeared to be barely out of her late teens was holding a pair of chakrams as she lightly swayed the weapons.
Classic but deadly based on the sharpness of its edge.
The two didn't expect newcomers to be here and fight the monsters.
The man with the slate gray coat rested the weapon over his shoulder. "Let's get started." He then pointed his weapon forward and a yellow-orange aura briefly shrouded his form before it vanished.
"I'll draw their attention to me, you take care of the stragglers from here amidst the distraction." He said to the girl.
"Got it!" The cloaked girl nodded. She knew the situation was similar to the exploration of the dungeons across Eorzea. The vanguard of the party lead and distract the monsters while the archers and whatnot use the diversion as an advantage to slay whatever monster the lead member missed.
With his sights set on the targets, the Gunbreaker lunged with a flip and cleaved a monster in half, his speed surprising everyone. With the first kill delivered, the other monsters immediately converged on him, perceiving him as an imminent threat.
Just as planned.
With the enmity now on him, it will give his party member an opportunity to strike any he missed. When one took a leap with its gaping maw, he swung the blade, slicing it in half.
With a quick swing of the Crownsblade, he unleashed a two-count strike to allow his body to recover but to also temporarily protect himself. The heels of his boots dug into the dirt and ducked, allowing his new friend to take care of it. From a glance, he knew the girl could handle well from the rear while he led as the vanguard in the fight.
The coated warrior swung the sword with precise strikes, his movement being quick to the normal eye. His footsteps never stopped at one place in order to strike down the monsters that attempted to surround him. They were more focused on him than the girl thanks to the enmity locked onto him.
When one of the insects pounced at the supposed SOLDIER from behind, the girl in the cloak tossed her two chakrams. The circular blades embedded into the insect before it bounced back to her hands. The girl's movement was with grace while her cloak swayed to her spins and small hops across the ground, almost like she was literally dancing as she fought.
She spread her arms when the chakrams landed back in her hands again, allowing her to present two fans and shoved a clutter of sharp wind to harm a few of the insects.
When she tossed the two chakrams again, the blades rolled across the dirt and upward to slice another insect much to the spectators' surprise. But it bewildered the two men when the chakrams once again bounced back to its owner. No chakram was able to return but if it could, it must be a special weapon to the girl.
She spun around as she followed along with her partner's ongoing assault, the chakrams cutting the monsters' hide. It looked so easy to the two.
The girl hopped over and used the weapons to once again cut another insect, keeping herself not too far from her companion. With the gray-coated young man serving as the close combatant, the girl was the long range fighter.
For the swordsman, he delivered several vertical attacks followed by an overhead strike, another insect eliminated by his hands. After sending a glimpse at his weapon, the Gunbreaker's eyes narrowed with determination. The barrel revolver within his weapon was primed and ready to unleash powerful attacks.
"Let's finish this." The 'SOLDIER' decided.
To their surprise and wonder was the next attack the man delivered. With a full circle swing, the young man unleashed a devastating blast-like attack that caused bursts of miniature, controlled explosions by the pull of the trigger in his sword, delivering fatal damage to the creatures. The revolver spun to signal the use of a cartridge.
The two volunteers of the Neighborhood Watch waited with bated breath and saw the dark smoke clear. The swordsman stood in the center unharmed while the monsters were eliminated.
"Woah…" Wedge uttered. The locals who witnessed it from hiding shared the same reactions on the coated man's prowess. The swordsman and cloaked girl took care of the monsters, the former killing the most.
Satisfied with the results, the gray-clothed swordsman placed the gunblade onto his back, keeping it in place. As for the case, he wasn't going to need it due to the possible encounters of more monsters being existent. It would be a hindrance to have the case and waste time. He exhaled with a soft push of air, the orange aura diminishing.
"That… that was cool." Xavier turned his head slightly to the two Hyurians.
The Warrior of Light chuckled inwardly but nonetheless replied, "Just doing the right thing." Despite some Adventurers who joined for glory and fortune, he wasn't like that back in Eorzea. Rather, he wanted to see the outside world and explore while doing good as an Adventurer and helping others. People told him he had a selfless soul.
"We appreciate it. Are you two with Neighborhood Watch as well?" The man with the headband inquired.
"Actually… we're… not." The girl admitted nervously.
"You're not?"
"We're not." Xavier confirmed. "But we couldn't turn a blind eye on the problem. It didn't feel right to stand back when that was happening."
"Understandable." The spiky haired one acknowledged. His eyes briefly lingered to the weapon on the coated man's back. "That's one hell of a sword."
The Eikon Slayer glanced at his gunblade for a moment then with the two. Guess they have never seen a gunblade before. He thought, based on the firearms the two held, they would have heard of it given such advancements of weaponry they had unlike some parts back in Eorzea. Then again, it looked like some things here were far different than in Etheirys. Well, almost given the remains of Allagan technology across the world he hailed from having such devices the locals of this world didn't have. Including the technology the Loporrit made on the moon.
"A friend made it for me." Forged after helping Cid remember the events of the Bozja Citadel incident to find the runes of Gunhildr for the Relic Weapons. Though Gerolt was the best blacksmith ever known, the man tended to have money problems when it came to his ale. Something Rowena countlessly chided him about. Poor blacksmith still needs a lot of Gil in his pockets to pay off those debts to her. It was a reminder to never set a deal to that woman. Even Xavier himself wouldn't… unless it was a very serious matter, regrettably.
"…Mine was given to me…" the cloaked girl peered slightly to speak to the two.
The two blinked when they swore the pointed end of the hood of hers twitched. Weird.
"What about-"
The slightly taller man stopped the fellow comrade from speaking.
Xavier briefly raised an eyebrow but brushed whatever the round Hyur was planning to say. "We will be departing. I do hope this brings ease amongst the locals."
Giving his bow, his companion did the same before the two departed. The locals murmured to one another in amazement, mostly commenting on the young man's skill as well as his companion's own. However it was clear the one in the gray coat had serious experience.
"Did you see that?"
"They took them all down in minutes!"
"Did you see that guy use that sword?! That was badass!"
More and more comments spread but also curiosity to the two.
"Um, Biggs, what do you think? I mean, what did we just see?" The round lad asked.
The now named man looked at the retreating duo. Hell, he was wondering the same exact thing about what happened. Two people ended up defeating the monsters with the man owning a sword that was… honestly, unheard of. The way it worked was equivalent to a sword with gun-like properties. Lastly, they recalled, Shinra never created such a weapon.
Who were those two people?
"So much for any leads…" M'werla mumbled as both her and Xavier were seated against a wall, mulling over an idea regarding traveling around the other Sectors. Alas, after learning from a passerby they required a pass to take the train without trouble, the two realized they were stuck in Sector 7 for the time being.
Thus it led to being at the spot they were on.
They were sulking about their situation but also having so many questions regarding their predicament.
"Guess this world has its problems with such creatures." M'werla commented. At least it wasn't the Sandworms or any other large insect.
"From the looks of it, this 'Neighborhood Watch' seems to be the local defense force." Judging from his conversation with the duo, they were possibly volunteers hence the questions from the male duo earlier.
Now that he recalled the two, something about them was suspicious. They did try to request something. Especially after noticing his weapon and outfit. Like they were warily familiar with something.
"What's wrong?" The Miqo'te asked her new friend.
"One of those armed individuals was about to ask something until his friend stopped him." Xavier recalled. "I thought of it as nothing at first but they seemed… cautious when they looked at me."
"You think they are hiding something?"
"Yes." The Gunbreaker adjusted himself against the wall. "For now, it's best to tread carefully in this Sector. We can't attract any more attention. Remember when the tavern owner was surprised to see Gil being different than the one she's familiar with?"
The Miqo'te nodded in acknowledgment. Trusting the fellow adventurer's words was more than enough for her. Being the only other adventurer here, she felt more comfortable having his presence close. They were trapped in an unknown world with no direction or method to return to Eorzea.
"Our only hope to travel is to take some jobs and hopefully they'll get us some passes to leave this Sector." He advised. "Until then, we're staying out of any conflict we know nothing of."
"Got it." She nodded. "We'll go find a way out of this."
The Immortal Flame lieutenant smiled at her morale being raised. It's the least he can do for the fellow adventurer. Looking back at the surroundings, his eyes didn't divert away from anything that was out of the ordinary.
The Miqo'te yawned which caught the Hyurian's attention.
"Exhausted?"
"Tired…" she mumbled. "The trip across the sands of Sagolii desert and the fighting both there and here has made me weary…"
"Then rest. I'll be right here, okay?"
The girl bobbed her head slightly, dozing off but nodded nonetheless. She drifted into sleep, allowing the Warrior of Light to scan the area. His fingers clenched slightly to the unease and hinged his jaw but remained vigilant. His eyes stared at the scenery and yet this place…
His eyes drooped slightly.
'Why does this place look so…'
His eyes finally closed after his resistance faded.
'Familiar?'
The makeshift battleground that was composed of sky blue crystals decorated the area as the sky was dark with an ominous orange shade. The arena being the summit of the Crystal Tower. The starshower continued to rain the sky above as Xavier's hardened gaze was set upon his opponent - Elidibus. The Ascian whose soul was possessing the body of the late Ardbert.
The man was infuriated by Blackburn's interference and slaying of his Ascian brethren.
"Elidibus…" The Ascian was only misguided after learning much from his companion Y'shtola who revealed Elidibus' true status - a Primal who is the Heart of Zodiark. "Give it up. What you are doing won't bring them back."
Elidibus gritted his teeth and rested a hand over his chestplate. "This pain, this torment… is nothing! No more than must be suffered to deliver the world from its doom! No more than any of you malformed creatures have known!"
Xavier's fingers curled slightly into his palms as Elidibus looked at his own hand.
"Even should you lose all that is dear to you. Even should it cost your life… You bear the burden and fight on, kicking and screaming until your last breath is spent!"
The Adventurer lowered his head slightly and closed his eyes but he heard a voice in his mind - a voice from within. "Aye, it's true. We've lost much and more. Known unimaginable suffering. But through it all, we never, ever forget what was dear to us. And that's what gave us the strength to carry on."
Opening his eyes, he looked at Elidibus. "You've no fight left to fight." He quoted the words Emet-Selch told him.
The words seemed to have brought familiarity to Elidibus but the man shoved it down and directed his fury towards Hydaelyn's champion.
"No, No! It will not end here." Elidibus seethed. Upon mental command, runes manifested all around him, erupting in pillars of light. With it, the Ascian hovered off the ground and began his incantation.
"Champions from beyond the rift, heed my call! The time has come to deliver your brethren from darkness!" Elidibus chanted.
Figures shrouded in light appeared from the runes but became orbs.
"My heart's sole desire is a world free from sorrow. Join with me now in hope and prayer… for the salvation of all!"
The orbs rose to the heavens above before raining down onto the Heart of Zodiark, the man now glimmering in light that nearly blinded the Adventurer. When the light faded away, a new figure took Elidibus's place.
Hovering before the Eorzean was a tall figure adorned in armor. His skin was pale as a ghost while matching colored hair flowed out of the horned helmet. The sword and shield held by the hands of the warrior.
The very warrior who was Elidibus now took the form of the Warrior of Light from the tales of old in the First. He had seen the figure in a book back in the First shortly before the conflict Elibus had caused.
"If you would usher in the end, then with my all shall I oppose you." The Emissary slowly moved his arm that held the blade in hand. "As the avatar of those mortal heroes who fought unfalteringly, in all their imperfection! As the Warrior of Light incarnate!"
With a swift motion, the Ascian glared at Xavier. For the sake of his Ascian brethren. For the sake of all he lost.
"COME WARRIOR OF DARKNESS!" Elidibus thundered. "LET US FINISH THIS!"
The Primal who was the Heart of Zodiark swiftly twisted his back and swung the blade, releasing an arc of power towards the Warrior of Light and Darkness who readied himself for it.
Xavier's eyes snapped open and abruptly looked left and right. He grasped his head, exhaling tiredly. It was a dream of a memory - a memory of his 'final' battle against Elidibus. Looking to his left, he noticed M'werla still asleep.
'It was a long while…
A lot of things have happened to him over the course of his time as an adventurer.
From being a simple Adventurer to becoming Hydaelyn's champion. A Warrior of Light to the eyes of all. People who counted on him. People who were inspired by his countless deeds across Eorzea. Their savior who brought them out of despair when the world was nearly at an end by the Endsinger who caused the Final Days. To end the plan Golbez had tried to do in the Thirteenth by having Zeromus go to the Source.
So much has happened and yet… a small fragment of him felt tired. A sensation he didn't feel last time. Looking to his left, he noticed M'werla resting but he knew she was slightly uncomfortable. Deciding to wake the younger Adventurer, he gently poked her shoulder.
"Morning already?" The Miqo'te mumbled with a pout.
"Yeah. We still have work to do." He pushed himself up and stretched his arms while his companion did the same before adjusting her cloak.
"Where…are we going?"
"As much as I don't like this…we're going back to the tavern to find work." Xavier decided. "Or at least gather more info about this world."
"I have to keep wearing this cloak, then." She realized.
The Warrior of Light and Darkness noticed M'werla's unease. With her being the only Miqo'te in Sector 7, she seemed uncomfortable as there had been no sight of other races. He wouldn't blame her as they were in a different world. At first he thought there would have been after his time in Norvrandt but it seems there wasn't any.
He gently planted his hand on her shoulder, allowing the snow-haired girl to raise her head slightly. "Just hang in there okay?"
"Mn…" The Adventurer bobbed her head slightly in acceptance.
"How about we talk about something?"
Her ears twitched slightly, no doubt his question earned her attention and her unease was lightened.
"Do you have any stories to tell, Xavier?" M'werla asked. "We only met a day after we got trapped in this city."
"Why don't you start first?" He suggested. "You're an adventurer from the Guild in Ul'dah like myself, right?"
"Okay…well…" She fiddled her hands. "My Thavnairian Dance skills weren't always like this."
"How so?"
The Miqo'te looked embarrassed at first but replied, "I was like the other Ul'dahn Dancers."
"… Ah." He did recall seeing them in the Ruby Road Exchange in Ul'dah and in Costa De Sol in La Noscea.
"But after hearing stories about the Warrior of Light's deeds, it inspired me to become an Adventurer." She didn't realize her friend froze slightly at the mention of the title but relaxed to keep his calm. She was referring to him but from her words, it must have been during his duties after joining the Scions, shortly after the assault on the Praetorium. "At one point, after becoming an Adventurer, I decided to go to Thavnair and that's where I learned more about the use of the war dance."
"You seemed to enjoy your time there." He hummed. He had been to Thavnair but that was later in the year when his conflict against the Telephoral began. The girl must have bern there before those events.
"I have! I learned so much from it before returning to Eorzea and continuing my travels as an Adventurer!"
"And I guessed you have had a few mishaps?" The girl jumped, the feline ears under her hood pointing upward. "Come now, you really think I would be oblivious to some mistakes we adventurers make?"
The snow-haired girl pouted. "Oh? What mistakes did you make when you started your role as an Adventurer?"
Xavier paused before raising his head to the air.
He began to remember using a sword and learned more techniques in the Gladiator's guild. Back then, he was new but learned quickly. Although he remembered one time he tried to practice a skill the guild master instructed… only to accidentally have the shield bounce back and knock the air out of his lungs while sliding across the training grounds. He shuddered at the memory. His chest was reeling for that short time and slept uncomfortably from it. He should have caught it in time back then.
And don't get him started on the 'misadventures' with inspector Hildebrand. Those moments would have driven most crazy but not him, thank the Twelve.
"A few that are too embarrassing to say…in public." he grumbled.
M'werla held her mouth to suppress the giggle that escaped her lips much to his growing embarrassment. At least they are growing closer as friends.
"Let's go see if people in this district have some work. I can guess mostly it'll be dealing with monsters."
"Are we still going to talk to the tavern lady again?"
"Probably…and see if anyone around would need some help after that." He replied. "Does that sound alright with you?"
"Sounds okay with me." She accepted.
Returning to the area where they initially left from, the two Adventurers made their way to the Seventh Heaven tavern. The Warrior of Light would occasionally see the fellow common folk occupied with their doings but when they saw him, they shared the brief wariness. The cautiousness thru displayed wasn't as bad as before but it was still there for him to notice. It reminded him of his first encounter with the Garlean citizens in the heart of the ruins that was Garlemald. It wasn't an easy time, that much he knew.
Following the familiar route to the tavern, the duo eventually slowed to a halt upon arriving at the destination that is Seventh Heaven.
"Well, here we are, again," said Xavier.
Seeing the sign, the Warrior of Light now realized it had the identical name to the same tavern in Mor Dhona. It was peculiar to see it but his time in the First lessened the surprise as the inhabitants had near-similar names to the Source's counterparts.
The two entered Seventh Heaven, seeing no customers unlike last night. The duo drew close to the bar counter and sat on the bar stools. Their presence went unnoticed by the familiar worker of the tavern. "Oh it's you two again." The familiar ravenette noticed. "The bar is closed in the daytime."
"Our apologies. We didn't know." The Miqo'te apologized.
"It's fine since I can guess you two are new around Sector 7 when we met. I heard what happened last night though. You did a good thing fighting those monsters."
"Couldn't turn a blind eye to the situation." Xavier responded. He really meant it. He never turned a blind eye on anything that was happening. To help any who were in trouble. It had been stuck to him for such a time as the selfless adventurer he was.
"I can see that. Since you're back here, I assume you have nowhere else to go?"
Tifa earned slumped looks from the duo.
"We don't…" the cloaked girl grumbled in dismay.
"If it's not too much to ask, you wouldn't happen to know anyone in need of help or work?"
The ravenette paused. She… honestly didn't think to hear such a request. He was dressed like a SOLDIER yet he wasn't? A mercenary then?
The brawler pursed her lips slightly, weighing the options. She understood Barrett had been cautious given what she told him about the two before and she doesn't blame him. But if the two were looking for work, she could at least have the man calm down once he hears the two aren't allied with Shinra. Setting the plate into its bin, she rested both hands on the counter. "I can think of a few jobs." She answered. "Mostly work with the Neighbourhood Watch but it should keep you two steady for a while."
"Speaking of that, are they the only defense force?"
"For the lower area."
"Lower area? You mean there is an upper class of citizens as well?" The hooded girl realized.
Sharp, she'll give her that.
"Yes." Tifa sighed. "It is why the Neighborhood Watch exists because of this. Only way to look out for people down here."
"...Guess classism exists here."
"Another thing you could do as Neighborhood Watch is take in any assistance be it big or small requests."
"Fair enough. We are strangers here, so we will take what we can get." Xavier acknowledged. It was similar to work in the guild. Be it the most menial tasks or monster slaying. "Thank you for telling us this… er… do you have a name?"
"Oh right. Maybe introductions should be a start. I'm Tifa Lockhart, it's nice to meet two new guests."
"Likewise. I'm Xavier Blackburn."
"And I'm M'werla."
"M'wer… la?" The name sounded extremely foreign. It brought curiosity but saved it for another time. "No last name?"
"Ah. My surname is Llorvo."
Now that was foreign alright. Xavier looked like he would fit in but as for the girl, her foreign name and cat-like pupils she can see under the hood was something else. Odd.
"Again we thank you for telling us about this, Tifa." Xavier moved himself from the bar stool. "If you don't mind, where would be a good start?"
The brawler pondered before she snapped her fingers. "The weapon's vendor may be looking for some assistance. He may sound a little harsh when you meet him but you just may convince him. To get to his shop, you just have to walk a little bit northwest from here."
Yup, definitely some similarities to Eorzea.
"Alright then." Xavier glanced at M'werla. "Let's be off M'werla."
"Of course," The fellow adventurer nodded and moved off the stool to follow. It was there for a second Tifa swore there was a flicker of a tail when the girl moved from the seat.
She shook her head. It was probably nothing.
With the two adventurers, the duo traversed their way to the weapon's shop. Now that it was daytime, it never gave the duo the view above. M'werla slowed her steps, seeing the massive plate above, the thick columns supporting what was above them. By the twelve, she never thought such civilization was advanced enough to provide such capability. She had heard stories Allag had designed that crystal tower that was beyond Mor Dhona. Adding to Garlemald's technological superiority, she didn't think this place was akin.
"Now that's impressive." Xavier commented. "Might wanna keep the hood up if you continue to gaze your head up that much."
The Miqo'te squeaked, gripping the hem of the hood of her cloak. It nearly fell off her head which was a close call.
"Come on, let's keep going." He replied, moving in the shop. The companion quickly followed after. They had earned a few glances from the folk before arriving at the weapons shop. The sign above obviously said weapons but in a font they weren't familiar with whereas the entrance had two local guards which was a given due to the shop itself. The interior when they entered was a tad bit small but they could see a small few working on their own. Behind the caged counter was the weapon's vendor as the man had dark slick back hair, adorned in cloth unfamiliar but the man did look a little grouchy.
Guess Tifa wasn't jesting.
"New visitors. Didn't expect that." The vendor grunted. "What the hell brings you here?"
"Tifa from the Seventh Heaven tavern had pointed us to you in need of assistance given we are hoping to join the Neighborhood Watch," explained Xavier
"Tch, and-" A minor burst echoed, making the man grimace. "Damn water filter! Second time already this week!" He marched to the machine that was in the corner of the cage.
"Can we help with that?"
The man gave a scrutinizing gaze. "Oh yeah? Then why not give it a try." He walked to the door and opened it.
M'werla pursed her lips, finding herself unable to but noticed Xavier step forward and entered. The Adventurer knelt down and saw its condition. To say the least the filter looked nowhere useful. However with where they are, it was obvious these people had to use second hand parts just to make a new one.
"Any idea how to fix that?" The man seemed to be criticizing him.
Xavier furrowed his brows. He faintly recalled a memory all the while his expertise as a Machinist in his days in Ishgard and being around Garlond Ironworks Cid led, it allowed his mind to work its gears before he removed his braces and began his work.
The vendor crossed his arms but his brows slowly widen as Xavier was actually moving to work.
"...Is he a mechanic or something? Your companion?"
M'werla shook her head, unsure.
The sound suddenly startled them before they saw the dual-haired young man brush his hands and closed the metal panel.
"There we go. Why not activate it again? See how the filter works this time inside it."
The man flicked the switch and noticed the machine wasn't having any difficulty with the filter. "What did you do to it?"
"The filter's components were faltering so I had to ensure they were melded tightly to prevent it from breaking apart." Xavier explained. "But it may break again, so I recommend getting a replacement. It's a temporary fix."
The vendor scratched his head. He briefly caught the sight of the weapon on Xavier's back. Now that he noticed, the young man's attire was strikingly familiar from the rumors.
"Say, aren't you the guy people have been talking about?"
"Pardon? Oh, you must mean the incident with the local beasts."
"Yeah that's it. It was you two. Damn, didn't think Tifa actually sent you two to help." Whether it was luck that Tifa was acquainted with them or not, they actually came here. "Listen, sorry for my pissy mood. My shop is already doing what it could, no thanks to the filter. Honestly…" he grumbled.
"It's alright," said Xavier in assurance.
"Listen, if it's weapons or need some fix on the nifty weapons you two have, you can stop by. It's on the house."
M'werla looked at her chakrams beneath her cloak. "You… wouldn't happen to apply the same to weapons like this as well?" She presented them to the owner.
"If it needs a sharpen and polish then I can do that. Check that sword." The duo saw the weapon was a large two handed sword. It reminded Xavier of a few swords he had wielded as a Dark Knight.
"Mind if I?" The male adventurer requested.
"Go ahead."
Xavier approached and plucked the blade and hefted it. A few customers gawked while the owner whistled to the young man's ease with the weapon. Like donning a glove.
He twirled it and shouldered it over his shoulder. He admired its design but noticed a few sockets meant to hold something.
"A fine weapon." Mayhap his other skill could use a new sword but he will stick to his gunblade as a Gunbreaker for the time being. He set it back against the wall. "You do have a good collection of weapons."
"Only shop around here to sell, and only place to get a good deal." The owner answered. "So? Anything interesting you two want?"
The two adventurers glanced before focusing on him.
"Weapon maintenance please," requested the Miqo'te.
After getting the chakrams sharpened and acquiring ammunition casing for Xavier to use to add his aether for the Gunblade, the two continued their trek to the spot the Neighborhood Watch gathered. From what they learned, they were the local defense force for the locals who worked similarly to the guilds back in Eorzea while also teaching people how to defend themselves. Quite the similarity.
"Right, here's the Neighborhood Watch. Should be easy to get some work." Xavier observed. He and M'werla entered and saw a few crates but not much else.
M'werla peered left and right. "Is… anyone here?"
"They must be on their duties. Should we wait?"
"I guess…" the Miqo'te murmured, placing herself on a crate. She kicked her legs slightly whereas Xavier waited by the wall.
The snow-haired Eozrea's ears twitched beneath her hood, making her turn her head. She hopped off which Xavier took heed of and saw two familiar faces they had met before.
"Oh it's you guys from last night!" The round fella recognized. "Didn't think you would come here!"
"You are the two from before." Xavier recognized. "It explains why you arrived when the monsters struck the town. You're with the Neighborhood Watch."
"That's right!" The young man with the bandana cap confirmed. "Neighborhood Watch at your service! Thanks for the help back there!"
"What brings you guys here?" The spiky haired fella inquired.
"Actually," Xavier glanced at M'werla then at the two. "My friend and I were hoping to join since the worker of Seventh Heaven Tifa recommended it to us"
The duo were surprised by the warrior of light's request. From the sound of it, the two had been looking for work. The man wasn't with Shinra? Or was he still? He added a few questions but it may provide answers regarding who they were if they joined. That and for their tall friend to not be so gruff about it regarding the mysterious duo who had only come to Sector 7 within the past two days. If Tifa made the recommendation then it would be a good start to understand the newcomers who were never seen in Sector 7 until recently.
"Like I said, we are simply travelers." Xavier summarized. "We… don't have much to call identification to leave to the other sectors. We've been primarily here for the past couple of days."
"Are you a mercen-" The round man was quickly stopped by his friend's quick hush.
"Mercenary?" Xavier guessed before shaking his head. "None of the sort." He caught on with the word but brought his guard up slightly. Like before the duo seemed to be hiding something. "We just need money. The local currency since ours has no use here." He recalled Tifa's warning – Gold gil shouldn't be shown around so they had to think of a better alternative for money. "But we still want to help the locals nonetheless."
"What can you tell us of this neighborhood watch?" M'werla asked.
"Well, the Neighborhood Watch does lots of stuff, really." The man with the spiky hair explained. "But our top priority is taking care of any beasts that wander into town like you have seen previously. That, and teaching locals how to fight."
'So a defense force that also acts as a guild.' The Hyurian noted.
"Are there usually parchments hanging that discuss the name of the requests?"
"That… huh…" The round man pondered, murmuring of that question becoming an idea to use.
"We normally ask around during our patrols." Though his friend also was taking such an idea into consideration. To have a board to answer requests which would make things simpler instead of asking around. "But we could put a board now that you brought it up."
"Please do." The girl mumbled. She was more adjusted to answering requests on the board or asking the guildmaster Momodi.
"So, got names?"
The gray-coated gunbreaker rested a fist to his chest. "Xavier Blackburn. As for my companion, her name's M'werla Llorvo."
"M'wer… Mwere-"
"M-wer-la." The girl spoke with a pout. Guess the locals are unsure how to pronounce the name but it is a given. They weren't Eorzeans so they lacked knowledge of the culture.
The round man laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head but his taller friend stepped forward.
"With if, welcome to the Neighborhood Watch." The man offered his hand. "Xavier, M'werla."
Xavier smiled lightly and grasped the man's hand, shaking it. It brought nostalgia when he first came to the Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah to join. And now, he and M'werla are now newly joined members.
While there is still suspicion laid regarding the two man due to the previous encounter, at least now the Eorzeans will begin integrating into the community in order to find a way back to their realm.
A/N: Thus ends the second chapter that you all have waited for. With our two adventurers now beginning to start their stay in Sector 7, they have much to do in the new realm they are in. But what challenges will await? You guys just have to wait and see. Until then, see you guys next time and have a merry Christmas!
