CH 02 Nothing like the Truth (last part)
It wasn't supposed to end like this. At least not for him. He was a good man, he & his family deserved better than what they got. This is all my fault…
That and more were the constant thoughts of a grieving Kara. The sunshine, everyone is used to getting from her, was far to be present on the following days. Nothing seems to be able to cheer her up. No one… except maybe the raven-haired woman who is offering a book to deal with this hard time.
"Kara. I… I heard about Jeremiah. I just wanted to offer my sympathies"
The tender look of those green eyes is something Kara has missed a lot and she's happy to get the chance to get lost in those beautiful green eyes again but, sadly Lena's unexpected visit is not enough to cheer her up.
It has been weeks without talking, it has been months of real battles between the two women. From misunderstanding to real betrayals. These two have caused so much damage to each other that, anyone would say, the best they could get from each other, it's to stay away as far as possible and yet, deep down, both of them want exactly the opposite.
The idea of leaving, Lena, really considered it more than once. Moving away and never seeing the blonde again would probably be for the best but, that damn power of reading minds! She still has it and it has made it impossible for her to stay away since all she hears from Kara's mind is: Love. A deep, infinite Love for her.
After all she has done, even when she used her to get Lex's journals. Even when she iced her in kryptonite, all Kara could think was how much she loved the woman that was hurting her so much. And maybe that's the main reason why, at the end of the day, now, Lena is more angry with herself than with the blonde who never dared to reveal her Super personality sooner.
Contrary to what the world might believe, the Kryptonian is not perfect, she never was and Lena understands that now. Kara might be seen like a goddess, but she's not. She makes mistakes, she makes bad judgments. She messes up like anyone else, and like anyone else, she should be able to get a second chance. God knows that Lena would love that. A new beginning for them and probably that's another reason to reach the blonde.
Losing a parent, it never comes easier, not even when you become an adult. And, Lena sees this painful moment as an opportunity she cannot afford to miss, to get closer to the blonde, once again. And, the hero seems to like this offer of good will but…
'It's my fault… Everything is my fault…'
Like always, Kara blames herself when something bad happens and no matter how much it crushes her, she doesn't deserve to be happy. She doesn't deserve the ray of happiness that Lena brings to her life, so, when Lena offers to be there for her in a time like this, Kara says no.
"Kara, I know I have hurt you but…"
"You should walk away, Lena. it's the best for you…"
'Stop looking at me like that! Like if the world was over! Like if you weren't the ray of sunshine that everyone needs! Especially me!' That and more, it's what Lena thinks when a defeated, sad stare is the only thing Kara has to offer. And, that has to change. All Lena needs to do, it's to divert Kara towards a happy place. And, she knows just the trick. And, that's why the next time they meet, Lena makes sure to wear the perfect cleavage. If she cannot cheer up the blonde, she knows two things that might do it.
'Powder and Sprinkle'
Lena can hear Kara's thoughts, the blonde cannot stop looking at her boobs, she's under their spell and just like that, Lena is able to divert Kara towards a happy place in her mind.
From there on, it's all about little amends. Little actions to amend a friendship that means the world to them. And, that's why Lena decides to reveal something else…
"You can read minds, like J'onn?"
"Not exactly, I can hear the thoughts of other people and for some reason, yours are very loud…"
Kara blushes, she blushes a lot when she understands the meaning of this.
'Oh God! She knows, she knows! She….'
"She loves you too"
"WHAT?!"
"I mean, I… I love you too"
Now, the two of them are blushing and Mxyzptilk is smiling. He made a big mess, but in the end, he got what he was looking for, in the first place.
The magic being was expected to receive at least a big thank you, not an ambush to catch him and forcing to remove his magic trick on Lena.
"You're welcome Supergirl"
Kara chuckles and shakes her head. Every time he gets into her life, he makes a mess but, in his way, he helped her to get the girl, right? And, talking about her, she might no longer be able to read minds but she doesn't need to read minds to know what Kara had in mind when she got her next Xmas gift.
"You've to be kidding me…"
Lena grimaces, staring at the Xmas sweater she got from the Super.
"I made it myself!"
The blonde says, feeling proud of it for a reason Lena doesn't understand. She should say thank you at least, right? But, how can she? Especially when there are two donuts at the level of her breast, two damn donuts, one powder & sprinkle. Lena raises an eyebrow, she doesn't find it amused, Kara disagrees.
"I never going to wear this"
That was the last lie Lena Luthor ever told as the Xmas photos of that year show a very grumpy Lena, wearing a very colorful Xmas sweater with two donuts woven into it.
Nothing settles the heart on fire like the truth, and the truth is that Lena has fallen in love with a girl who adores her boobs.
