Book 1:
The Many Adventures of Lara Croft: Tales of Atlantis
Synopsis: After the horrifying events of the Tomb Raider (Reboot), Lara finds herself on a discovery to find the Lost City of Atlantis with the crew from Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire (minus Milo) after months of therapy.
NOTE: In this timeline of Lara Croft, the events of Rise of Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider never happen. Trinity comes to an end after the events of the first Tomb Raider (reboot) game. After the first Tomb Raider Game, her journey continues within The Many Adventures of Lara Croft as she crosses over with multiple pop culture stories from films, games, shows, and books I love.
Chapter 1
"How do you feel today Lara?" Mrs. Dryden asked in a calm, warm voice.
After 5 months, you would think I would be over the hell I've had to endure back on Yamatai - I guess a girl can dream.
Mrs. Keva Dryden is my 30 year old professional therapist who was recommended to me by my father's former lover, Anna. I don't talk that much to Mrs. Dryden - I usually just look down to the floor or examine her sometimes. Sometimes both. She wears glasses and she usually wears nice clothes - not overdressed professional but casual fancy wear. Today, she is wearing a maroon textured long sleeve shirt with a white cardigan open sweater over it - along with white denim leggings and red thick high heels. I also notice her three crystal necklaces around her neck hanging down her shirt at different lengths. Her caramel brown hair cuts at an angle to her shoulders. She has dark smooth skin and a caring personality. I can tell she's married from the diamond ring on her right hand and the picture of her children staring at me on her desk behind her - I think the desk is made of black oak wood. It's nice..
She seems to care about my mental health a lot and I don't want to disappoint her but I mean, how can anyone survive that cursed Island and watch their friends die and try to talk about it?
"Lara, it's okay to feel the way you do. You've come a long way in the past 5 months and I'm proud of you. I know you don't talk much to me but you seem to have opened up more than did when we first started. Can you try to tell me how you feel today?" She continued maintaining her soft tone.
She was right when she said I opened up more. The first session I had with her, I was completely shut off and was an internal emotional wreck. You can't blame me for being traumatized. I saw Alex and Roth die and Sam, my best friend, was kidnapped… Luckily I saved her. What scared me the most was being on that island while anything and anyone tried to kill me. It really makes you evaluate reality.
"I'm okay I guess," I murmured trying to hide the fact that I was lying. She obviously knew that though. "I've gotten better but I still have nightmares." I continued.
"How often do you have them?" She asked, her eyes still on me.
And let the emotional turmoil begin!
"I guess when I don't think about it. I don't know…" I cowardly replied.
"Are you and Sam still talking?" She asked carefully.
It was hard for me to answer her question. It's difficult when Sam is one of the topics of conversation. I've blamed myself for what they did to her on the Island - correction, I still blame myself. When we finally left the Island on the boat, there wasn't much to talk about… Sam was quiet as was I and Jonah was trying to lift our spirits up. It didn't help that Joslin hated me. Joshlin believes to this day that wherever I go, people will die. I find it hard not to believe that. But hey, what can you do? That's the curse of being me. I couldn't even save my father. That's probably why I kept my distance from Sam - Jonah, however, seems to test my limits.
"How about Jonah? I assume he keeps in touch." She asked after a minute of silence.
"Yeah," I said glumly trying to get this session over with, "He comes over a lot to help me I guess."
"In what way does he help, if you don't mind me asking?" Dr. Dryden asked as she held onto her tablet and pen on her lap.
"I would like to leave please." I exclaimed as my frustration started to build in me like a volcano - my hands gripping my light rugged blue jeans while shaking one of my legs. I was tempted to get up from the chair and leave though that was how I felt every day for the past 5 months.
"Okay then. I won't stop you from leaving Lara. You can leave but understand a few things before you go. One: you can keep telling yourself that you are the only one who hurts in this world - that no one else can understand pain but you. The truth is everyone hurts regardless of the situation. I know that when one hurts, that person can often think that there will be no recovery for them - that one thing can prevent them from experiencing love, happiness, joy. That person often feels that they have a boulder attached to their leg pulling them down underwater to sink to the point where it becomes numb. Understand Lara, we are people. We are a community. I am not here to pull you down further… I'm here to grab your arm and pull you out of the water so you can breathe. Two: you are paying for these sessions and I feel it is a waste of money if you keep on leaving early when you have 20 minutes left. Three: I know what happened to you is awful! I couldn't imagine what it was like in your shoes and no one should have to experience that at the age of 21 especially a woman - understand though, you are living in the now. What you do is up to you but don't think you can't live a fruitful life and overcome the pain and fear. You can keep walking out that door into the world but at one point you have to decide when you are ready to live again… so do what you want."
I'm not going to lie, that hit deep. Dr. Dryden said her speech with a more authoritative voice yet still calm and carrying. However, I kept a straight face as hard as I could while I let my hands rest from squeezing the blue jeans around my knees. I ended up staying for the rest of the session.
Once the session was over, I went to my motorcycle and drove back home to Croft Manor after making a few pit stops for groceries. By the time I got home, it was about 5 pm - the sky became gray and rainy with a harsh lightning storm coming in. As I parked in the front, my butler, Winston Jeeves welcomed me at the front door
"Welcome back Miss Croft! Perfect timing as I ought to say. A storm is coming in." Winston delightly stated.
"Thank you Winston." I replied with warmth. Winston is a dear friend who I consider as family. He has been my father's butler since I was a baby. He has been a father figure to me when my father hasn't been around.
"May I have dinner ready for you in an hour, Miss Croft?" asked Winston while walking me to the door with an umbrella.
"That would be delightful Dear Winston." I smiled. "I will be in the study room again. Call me when dinner is ready." I continued while entering the house with him.
"Absolutely Miss Croft!" Winston replied with his joyful smile on his face.
As I entered the Study room, a raging lightning bolt shot outside causing the dark room to flash white for a second while an ominous female voice stated - her silhouette perfect through the flash,
"Lara Croft. What a pleasure to meet you."
"Who are you!? How did you get into my home?!" I shouted with shock and fury.
"Technically it's your father's. You aren't quite fit to take over his estate yet. Don't worry, I'm not here to harm you." replied the silhouette in a steady authoritative voice.
I turned the light on to see the silhouette turn out to be a tall blonde woman with a long slim fit shoulderless black dress - pearl earrings on both sides wearing black high heels while her straight long hair layed on the left side of her chest with her sparkling pearl necklace underneath. Man, she loves pearls, yet, what the heck is going on?
"What do you want from me?" I asked suspiciously, trying to slowly grab my knife from my back pocket without her noticing.
"I'm here to recruit you Lara on behalf of Preston B. Whitmore. We need your help finding the lost city of Atlantis. You are an archeologist, correct?"
Looking absolutely puzzled at this woman with a sprinkle of disbelief, all I could say at the moment was, "what?".
"Do not worry about dinner Lara, you have a meeting with Mr. Whitmore in 20 minutes. All will be revealed to you soon. I hope you are packed." The lady said as she started walking up to me. Still being puzzled, I couldn't bring myself to say anything and the Lady continued with a smirk,
"The name is Helga Sinclair. You can call me Helga."
