A/N:This is random, pointless, plotless, fluffy-ish Darvey-centric oneshot I came up with one day. Hope it sparks someone some joy!
Wearing Perfume and Jealousy
Harvey was recruited by Donna's directing friend for an ad.
It was completely random. Donna and Harvey were walking around the block, to the nearby art thrift shop, enjoying the perfect spring morning Manhattan was having with the cool airy breeze and warm sunshine. They'd just spent their morning at the Lafayette cafe, with each of them satisfied with the coffee and well deserved rave of their infamous croissants.
While clutching onto the bakery box filled with cruffins- a cross between a croissant and a muffin- "a breed of monstrosity and gluttony more like" Harvey had scoffed as he paid for the offending treat per Donna's request, to which Donna had responded "We'll see how your tune will turn after one bite mister." – Donna was stopped abruptly mid stroll as she ran into a woman.
"Oh sorry! Oh my god Donna!" Donna blinked in surprise at Christy Stranson, a friend of Donna's from college she'd stayed in touch with over the years.
"Christy!" Donna shoved the pink box into Harvey's arms before wrapping her own arms around Christy's shoulders. Christy squeezed back before inquiring about her. "How are you, how's that law firm you were running?"
"Good! The name's longer now so we can bill clients a few extra hundred an hour."
"The more letters the more zeros is my motto!" Christy teased and Donna laughed.
"What about you? How's the advertising business any new exciting clients I can abuse through you?"
"Well, you can kiss your annual christmas gifts from Hermes goodbye,"
"Oh." Donna faked a pout, "Well Harvey can pick up the slack in that department." Donna winked with a nudge at Harvey and he rolled his eyes chuckling at her comment.
"Mm, and then I can treat you to the entire new line of Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics!" Christy finished off.
"Shut up, that is amazing!"
"Yeah it was a long time coming." Christy let out a self satisfied sigh before directing her attention for the first time to Harvey.
"And who is this mystery man, I'm sorry I got a little too excited about my news."
"Oh trust me, I'm familiar with the urge to brag about your professional wins. I'm Harvey Specter, Donna's-"
"Boss right?"
"Husband actually." Harvey smiled proudly at his correction, basking in his own pride as Christy's eyes widened in surprise before filling up with giddy affection as Donna showed off her sapphire ring.
"It's true, Donna Paulsen is officially a kept woman." Donna's eyes glimmered almost as bright as her diamond as she confirmed her relationship status
"A well- kept woman. Paulsen, you did good." Christy wryly commented as she looked Harvey up and down categorizing and critiquing him as she thoughtfully hummed to herself.
Harvey smirked at her reaction, used to the response to his looks, but he felt extra happy with Christy's summation as he looked back at Donna who was slightly bashful, shaking her head in annoyance at Harvey's ego being stroked.
"Anyways, what about you how's Steve?" Donna asked about Christy's own husband.
"Oh he's fine, great, whatever" Christy waved off the typical formality question before changing the subject.
"Actually, I know this is completely random and Donna, feel free to tell me I'm stepping over the line, but I was actually on my way to put out my first fire at work with YSL. I'm in charge of shooting their latest perfume, Laurent Libre and my male model just pulled out at the last minute, and Harvey is exactly the type of man they want. Sophisticated, older, handsome- pretty but not too boy-pretty. It'd really get me out of a bind if we could use him, the shoot's on friday." Christy begged her hands clasped together in prayer stance as she looked expectantly at the two of them.
Harvey felt slightly accosted at Christy's long running rant. He could see how she was friends with his wife. "Well uh, I-" he looked to Donna clearly asking for her help with this.
Donna silently reassured him with a half nod. "Sure I guess I'm free to pose for a few shots."
"Actually it's a video. A proper ad. They want the same french artistry most perfume ads have. Pretty girl, hot guy, no words exchanged sultry looks, random cut to woman running away and diving into her freedom through a run in the fields,"
"A swim at night," Donna pipped in.
"Or a bounce of her feet towards the wild unknown." Christy added with a laugh. "In this case it's a bride-to-be calling off her wedding for handsome man number one- one Mister Specter-Paulsen maybe?" Christy teased eyes pleading with Harvey.
"Hey it's fine by me use and abuse Mr. Paulsen over here however you please." Donna smirked with a shrug of her shoulders at Harvey.
Harvey contemplated on it for one second before speaking up "Well Mr. Specter agrees too. Honestly, it's not a big deal."
Harvey was more than happy to earn a few brownie points with Donna over a relatively simple favor he could do for her friend who over the years, Harvey knows, has helped her out in more ways than one.
Donna grinned, pleasantly surprised at Harvey's agreement as he exchanged information with Christy over time and location.
"And Donna feel free to stop by the shoot if you're free!"
"Thanks Christy, I will. Call you later?" Christy nodded as she waved goodbye.
As they were about to resume their walking Donna halted Harvey, gingerly taking the box of pastries back from him, making a show of how heavy it felt as she let out a light grunt and shifted the weight of her feet before continuing the walk.
Harvey frowned at her as she carried the box back in her arms walking ahead of him.
"What're you-"
"Wouldn't want you to pull a muscle before the big day, Hotshot." She said as she looked back at his dumbfounded look.
"Donna." He whined already sensing a new string of jokes he's expected to be the butt of.
What?" Donna feigned innocence. "I just want to make sure every muscle, every aspect of your body is well rested for your big shoot. Wouldn't want you to over exert yourself you pretty thing." She mock cooed at him.
"Hmm, well in that case there is one thing you can do to me to make sure I'm extra relaxed." Harvey smirked at her.
Donna laughed at his comment. "Maybe if you're good for the next five blocks."
...
Donna had been teasing him all week- unfortunately so had Mike.
Harvey's response for the most part has been how he's finally gotten all the proof he needs that he's handsome. "Of course they'd want me- who else really?" He'd responded to Mike's chuckling and Mike had sighed, annoyed with how even when he had ammo to belittle the Great Specter- he didn't. "Your ego is going to take up the entire camera lens." Mike mumbled.
Donna, on the other hand would switch back and forth from teasing him to commenting on how he sure is pretty on the eyes.
Harvey always felt his chest puff out and his insides tingle in warmth everytime she admitted she found him handsome. For someone who'd been told by the universe all his life he was attractive - it was this his wife and partner of fifteen years telling him he was that still got to him.
On the infamous day, Donna managed to sneak out of the office to catch most of Harvey's shoot.
True to her word, Harvey was pretending to get married to the runaway bride-esque woman, the real star of the show.
She was hot. Five foot ten, skinny leggy brunette with smokey eyes, pouty lips and sharp cheekbones. Seeing Harvey pretend to be someone else's groom, all dressed up in a dark black YSL tux- Donna got jealous.
Seeing him sensually dance with the bride, give her her bedroom seductive eyes, see him graze his hand on her sculpted cheekbones…Yeah. Donna was jealous. It didn't feel good seeing all that play out.
She knew Harvey didn't mean it that he was playing it up for the camera following directions and Donna got that, she understood that. She knew he was simply acting- hell she was an actress herself but she was also human and right now she was having a hard time remembering why the feminist rational right side of her brain was wanting her to not smack that bitch far away from her man.
Donna is a confident woman. She hasn't had the feelings of jealousy lick her wounds in a very long time, not since she grew into her body and moved far away from Connecticut and her years as an insecure teenager. But here, staring at a supermodel standing within the embrace of her Harvey, she feels it grow and simmer under her skin flushing her cheeks the slightest bit as she watches the scene unfold. It triggers a very familiar scene in her head except instead of the face of YSL, Zoe and Scottie and Paula and a million unnamed strangers take her place in the blink of an eye.
Afterall she'd had some familiarity with women that weren't her grabbing Harvey's attention.
Except when that happened she wasn't aware of the full blown love she's had for him.
She had guessed, lied to herself, turning a blind eye to that part of her soul and now? now that they've established they love each other now that she's had a taste of Harvey Specter's full attention and affection and she wasn't going to give that up easily. It invigorated her to have a little more than an annoyance towards the girl but a full on feeling of possessiveness towards Harvey.
She hates herself a little for falling for this. She knows it's stupid knows if Harvey looks over in between takes and reads her jealousy he'll be so god damn smug and she doesn't want to inflate his already fat ego.
She told him to do it for god's sake she shouldn't be so annoyed by a woman getting paid to touch his chest and sway in his arms as French music played while she's dressed in a sheer elegant lace white wedding dress that screamed modern persian bride.
Part of it may be that she never got to do that with him - traditionally play the role of bride to be.
Another part of it is seeing a glimpse of what could've been.
In another life, where her and Thomas never crossed paths, where maybe she never got the split second courage to kiss him while he was with Paula, if Robert and Alex never merged with their firm, in some parallel universe where Jessica never left and Donna may have been still a secretary or a business woman because 'The Donna' venture panned out - this could've easily been her reality.
She doesn't know if she could see Harvey ever marrying one of the many beautiful bachelorettes he'd have had his pick of- because she couldn't see him settling down in that way but she could see him settle down in the penultimate way settling for a companion either fooling himself or believing someone was better than no one. She imagined the ill fated realities of seeing them dancing at galas and firm parties of having to sit across from him as he dutifully sat down next to his mystery partner. She pictured him coming to tell her he's moving in with her, pictured him coming to her for advice- while she was still stuck pining away for him unknowingly sealing her fate as the one that got away.
The director yelled cut and Donna snapped out of her thoughts. Harvey and the model exchanged much more relaxed and less sultry smiles as the model reassured him he did good.
The model then walked away and Donna got up to Harvey before he had a chance to say anything as she pressed her lips on his.
The kiss was passionate, much more passionate than Donna intended for it to be as she felt her tongue slip into his mouth, her palms grazing his jaw, head angled perfectly, and lungs burning at the intensity before finally stepping away for a quick breath.
"What was that for?" Harvey asked dazed, lips plumped and stained with her lipstick that Donna tried wiping away.
"I need a reason to kiss my husband?" Donna purred seductively as she righted his tie and let her hands linger on his lapels.
Harvey beamed a smile at her and shook his head slightly as his hands squeezed her waist and moved her slightly away as he studied her face.
"Oh my god you're totally turned on aren't you."
Donna rolled her eyes about to quip back when he interrupted her again.
"Holy shit it's even better than that you're jealous."
Donna scoffed. "Please."
"You are," he smugly countered and a smirk the size of Manhattan graced his face. "It's ok to admit it Donna." he teased.
Donna narrowed her eyes at him. "I'm not jealous."
"Uh huh. Sure."
"Fine, maybe I was a little jealous. Not of miss twig over there. Just…"
"Just what?" Harvey asked, slightly bemused with curiosity coloring his tone as he squeezed Donna's waist once more.
"Picturing you with another woman for good. You know if we hadn't gotten our shit together who knows what would've happened. Who you would've ended up with." Donna swallowed down her uncomfortableness as she looked away, brushing her hands on his lapels ridding them of invisible wrinkles that don't exist.
Harvey gently clasps her hands in his, keeping them steady across his chest, demanding her eyes back at him. She sighed before letting her eyes meet his again, a hint of petulance in hers that had Harvey chuckling.
"This isn't funny" she mumbled, annoyed he got her to feel so exposed and vulnerable standing in the middle of a runway model's shoot.
"Oh come on, it's a little funny."
"Harvey, c'mon you never thought about it before? what would've happened if-"
"No."
"No?" She raised a brow disbelieving him.
"Ok I have-briefly. Before I remembered that me and you?" he held on to her tighter, his thumb caressing her jaw before settling under her chin letting her eyes never leave his. letting her see his sincerity in his eyes.
"We were inevitable. We've been through every obstacle, tested every other relationship and ours over the years in different places, decades, occupations- Donna. You're my-"
"Soulmate?" Donna teased eyes wide and bright glistening with amusement and joy and Harvey chuckled biting the inside of his cheek.
"I was gonna say my wife or love of my life. But, yeah soulmate works too."
Donna felt a chuckle brew out of her chest and she smacked his shoulder before kissing him once more.
"I love you too Harvey."
"And I'm the love of your life?" He teased back fishing for a compliment in between kisses and smiles.
"Uhm remains to be seen."
"Really?"
"Well, the love of my life would have reassured me first and foremost I have nothing to worry about and that her dress would look much hotter on me."
"Didn't think Donna Paulsen needed the reassurance."
"Donna Paulsen doesn't. Donna Paulsen-Specter however, wants you to get that yves saint laurent unreleased spring season 24 dress in a size 4 for her so she can wear it for her husband tonight and show him just. how. Lucky. He is." Through every pause Donna kissed her way up his neck and towards the corner of his lips, thankful the studio cleared out the minute they yelled cut.
Harvey swallowed at the image she painted. Imagining her curves and body filling out the lace dress and her bodice-
"He knows." Harvey half moanned half growled as a response and Donna smirked at him.
"Good. Wouldn't hurt to have a refresher though." She winked at him.
Harvey wondered for a half second if the whole reason she voiced her concerns was to get him to buy her the dress but he'd seen her face flush earlier a scarlet hue as he danced with Kate.
Harvey smirked to himself at the fact. He owed Donna's friend a boatload of favors for finally letting him see a hint of unbridled jealousy play out on his wife.
Half a year into their marriage and the only feelings of jealousy that ever played out were on his end. Petulantly and with not even an ounce of Donna's grace that she just carried out.
Harvey's glad to know Donna looks hot wearing jealousy and he's excited to see just how hot she is as she wore the YSL dress too.
