"Congratulations Suzuki, I beat up Nejire, so you get to join me and my team!" It was probably the most difficult battle he's fought so far in all his experience at U.A. Nejire was really, REALLY adamant about inviting her 'little brother' to Ryuko's agency.
"Oh, is that some kind of rule?" He asked. "Beating people up seems kinda violent for wanting to help a Kohai."
"Oh no, we didn't hurt each other, this is just how we talk and discuss our differences. Believe me, it gets crazier over something like wanting to see a different movie." So many prostitutes … "So don't worry, I'll get the paperwork involved, and soon we'll get you sent over to meet Sir Nighteye himself."
"Nighteye?" Suzuki blinked in confusion. "I never heard of him. What does he do?"
"He's smart, he's skilled, he's a great detective, and he can see into the future." He added a little wave to the last one.
"So if I asked him how many fingers I'm holding behind my back, he'll know the number?"
"Probably! Although he usually doesn't need to use his quirk for that." He even accurately guessed during that one time he was thinking of cake instead of a number. "I noticed during the Sports Festival and parts of the fight you seem to anticipate attacks before they happen."
"Not sure if I call it anticipating, I just know when danger's going to happen before it does. Rabbit-sama taught how to use that while in a fight, using instinct to beat up villains.."
"Well if you can combine planning and instinct like that, you will have POWER beyond your wildest imagination." He saw sparkles. "Maybe it can make you strong enough for some training, but it may weigh on you if you hear them."
"You're super funny!" It made him hope for the future when someone was able to laugh at his jokes. "I wasn't planning on doing a work study, but if I can improve my dodging like you say I can, then it sounds like something I can't miss! Is your boss just as funny as you?"
"HAHAHA!" That was funny for multiple reasons. "Let's just say Sir is a man that appreciates all forms of humor." And ones that haven't been invented yet.
"Alright you six!" Nejire shouted, walking around all of the cute 1-A girls. "I may have lost the battle, but I won the war. I can't get my little bro, but the six of you have a chance at being my sisters, and join me in working with the awesome Ryukyu!" She shouted. "We can have super fun all the time!"
"I'm out." The invisible girl sat up and dusted herself off. "If Iruma-kun isn't there, there's no point in going. I'm going to use this time to finalize a personal project of mine." As she walked out the door, Nejire tallied off the number from six to five.
"Well that's a shame, but you girls know where the fun is, right!?"
"While I'm flattered, I think there's another agency that's more well suited for me due to the nature of my quirk." The girl with the black Ponytail bowed. "Thank you for the consideration, Senpai, but I'll make my leave."
"Yeah, I'm going to leave too. There's way too much energy for me to deal with all at once here." The earlobes girl went towards the door.
The tally went down from five to three. That was fine, she could work with this. "Okay then, that just leaves the rust of you gals then."
"Um, what would we be doing?" The round cheeks asked her, a cute head tilt. Oh yeah, she needed to explain how to have fun.
"Fighting villains, flying, taking cute modeling pictures, girl time in general."
"As long as we don't talk about romance twenty four seven, I'll join." The frog girl nodded. "This sounds like this'll be much less dramatic than how it goes in class.."
"Yeah, this sounds great! Actual experience that isn't just random villain attacks!" Round cheeks cheered.
"Heck yeah, girl power!" The pink one shouted. "We get to be the three amigos today gals!"
"Sweet, let me let her know!" Nejire dialed her up, waiting until she got an answer. "Hey, Ryukyu, I got three more girls!"
"Um … Nejire Chan … I can only afford two more work studies unless you opt out yourself." ONLY TWO!? THIS WASN'T WHAT SHE WAS PROMISED! "I told you this in the email." Who reads emails anymore!? It was all about texting nowadays.
"Alright, I'll let them know." She sighed. "Okay, teeny-weeny oopsie on my part, I can only invite two of you. Sorry."
"Well Ochako's gotta stay." Pink girl patted the round cheek on her back. "Getting strong enough to be with your man and all that?" Ooh, sounds juicy!
"Yeah, yeah." The girl blushed. "If he's doing what he can to be stronger, then what excuse do I have?" Both kohai turned to the frog girl. "What about you, Tsu?"
"Mina..I really…really need to do this." The frog girl looked sad. "Things have felt…pretty bad lately and I need something to get my mind off of it…"
"Say no more, I understand." The Pink girl nodded. "I probably couldn't stand taking all those make-up classes anyways. Maybe when my grades aren't so average I'll join one. Peace out!" She left the room.
"Aww, I really wanted a lot of little siblings this time." She pouted. Bad enough she was cheated out of working with her little bro, now she lost four sisters to play with.
"We can be siblings." Ochako smiled at her. "1-A is already like a family." Oh, so cute. She went in and crushed the girl with her arms and boobs.
"Best sisters for life!"
"Dude, come on, let me join!" Tamaki looked away, unable to stare directly at the boy. "Pretty please, come on! Just get us a conversation!" Why didn't the redhead understand the concept of personal space? He did beat his butt six ways to Sunday like Mirio did. "I'd really appreciate it if I can just talk to Fatgum just once!"
"How do you know I work with fatgum?" He asked quietly.
"Oh, Yaoyorozu told me, she said she was planning on asking you later, so I planned on asking for the both of us." TWO OF THEM!? WHY!? "Please, we need the experience!"
Please, please just forget he existed, forget he was around, forget he was a person that could help them advance their heroic careers easily. That was way too much pressure to put on him. "Hey, are you guys still talking about it?" The big lipped kohai said from behind the red head.
"You guys don't understand how hard it is." He muttered. "I can't even talk to people, let alone Fatgum. And now I need to tell him that three people want to join when we can barely scrape enough together for three Work Studies?"
"You don't have to say much man, just say we want to talk to him and let us worry about the rest." The big lipped Kohai pleaded. "Please, I haven't done much this entire school year, and this could be my once chance to actually improve myself as a hero."
"And I need everything I can! I already failed everyone way too many times to count, I won't keep doing it! I need to go Plus Ultra!" So much pressure, so much pressure….!
"F-fine! I'll see if I-I can get a w-word in." He crumbled, falling to the ground and curling himself into a ball. "Oh this is gonna s-suck. So much on me-me. I'm gonna let everyone down, they'll hate me, I'll get stuffed into a shoe box and be sent off into the sea."
"Wow, it's like Iruma but … sad." The big lipped kohai muttered
"Yeah, at least with his attitude he can make stuff like that sound funny…I'm getting a bit depressed watching this." Redhead sighed.
"I'm worse than the first year, I'm super pathetic. Just end me now, tie the noose."
"Kirishima, Sato, I've come back with the Takoyaki…" The black ponytail girl came with a bento. "Uh…."
"Doormat…the normal depressed kind." Both male Kohai answered. Just end him now!
"So you're going with hawks, right? He's who you did your internship with." Shoji asked Tokoyami. The raven nodded. It was the easiest choice for him to make.
"He's..an interesting teacher to say the least. I hope to show him what I've improved on since we've last encountered each other." He spent the entirety of the internships running behind the young pro. He was going to catch him this time around and force the man to acknowledge him.
"I'm going to go to Wash. I wanted to try something closer to the city instead of just working on my quirk in the woods." Koda explained his reasoning. It seemed simple enough. "So no one else is going on one?"
"We just spent so much of our time barely surviving and getting by on the skin of our teeths. I want a break, man." Kaminari whined out.
"Wimp." Bakugo spat out. There wasn't much he could say about it beyond that since he couldn't join one at all.
"Kaminari does raise a fair point. We are students first and foremost." Iida spoke up. "We're only provisionally licensed. We shouldn't take unnecessary risks when we still have our studies to attend to."
"That, and I want to go at least one day at this school without thinking we're going to get invaded or attacked." Mineta shuddered. "We couldn't even take that provisional exam without a villain coming into the picture. We're cursed, there's no unconvincing me of that."
"I could check officially if you're that concerned about it." Tokoyami offered. "I just need a hair sample from everybody in class."
"No thanks, I like my hair on my body." Jiro spoke up. "I'm just going to practice on hobbies and stuff."
"Same." Hagakure seemed to be smirking. "I'm gonna spend the next week finalizing evidence against Iruma-kun's parents. Send them to jail for all the shit they pulled!"
"Wait, you've actually been investigating his parents?" Ojiro questioned. "That wasn't a joke Uraraka made up?"
"Of course not, those people are bastards." Uraraka clarified. "They literally brainwashed him to agree to everything, and he can't say no without getting sick. I won't be happy until they're rotting in Tartarus."
"That may be a problem." Todoroki spoke up.
"Getting him away from his evil family is a problem?" Hagakure asked skeptically.
"If they're arrested he technically becomes an orphan, as he's a minor, and needs to be put into the system." They stared at him. "As someone who's thought about murdering their father, i've put some research into this." Absolutely dark … something he could relate to. "If you want this to go off without a hitch, you'll need to have a next of kin within their documentation set up."
"So in other words, someone needs to adopt Iruma the moment his parent's get arrested to avoid anymore trouble on that front." Momo clarified the situation. "I know it's a joke with All Might being his secret father, but wouldn't…"
"No." Hagakure, Todoroki, and surprisingly Bakugo said at the same time.
"Well I doubt Aizawa would make a good dad." Everyone was silent, processing Kaminari's sentence with a shiver.
"What about Midnight?" Mineta asked, and everyone looked as if he was stupid, which he was. "It's not that bad of a suggestion. She's kind and Iruma doesn't understand innuendoes even after that sex-ed class." Everyone shivered again. Why did she talk about the use of the tongue so much? It made him glad to have a beak.
"Revelry in the Dark." He muttered quietly, getting pats on the back from Shoji.
"I think teachers in general are off limits. They've been driven crazy watching over all of us for this long." Hagakure sighed. "Miriko might not be a bad option. She already calls him her Kit, and it's not like he'll be moving in with her. She literally just needs to give her approval and he'll stay in the dorms with the rest of us."
"Do you really think any sane social worker would qualify that woman to take care of a child?" Bakugo asked the obvious question. A cloud of darkness approached the young Suzuki, and a bright road ahead seemed too far and distant.
"Hey guys." Ochako gestured to a few students. The ones who went on the raid. "Do you mind coming with me?" She asked.
Tsu watched the gang approach, holding it in the best she could. "Yo, Tsu, heard you got a place with Ryukyu, that's awesome!" Ejiro smiled at her. Everyone seemed to be so happy right now, even with her distancing herself for the past week or so, everyone still managed to be happy.
"Yeah, I did." She quietly admitted. "You and Momo got one with Fatgum, right?"
"It's a work in progress, but I'm fairly confident in our chances." Momo answered.
"Yeah, almost everyone here has joined an agency." Tsu looked down. "We're all getting stronger…"
"Tsu, are you okay?" Ochako asked as Toru and Iruma approached her.
"I'm … I'm sorry." She admitted, letting out a croak. "You all risked your lives to help Iruma and I … sat on my ass while you all did it. You always try and do so much for everyone and here I am just trying to be safe …" She looked at Iruma, who as always was more concerned about everyone except himself.
"Tsu, it…it was a dangerous situation. I couldn't have asked any of you guys to come and save me." Iruma said with a bit of a distant voice. "All Forty One talked about everyone in class, talked about how much he'd hurt you guys just because you knew me…I would've told you all to stay away if I knew that before."
"Fuck that, so what if he wants me hurt, he'll have to try a lot harder than that to stop me!" Hagakure smiled.
"He had pictures of Iida's bedroom and talked about your daily habits." … That was genuinely terrifying on every level. "I never knew you came to my house by the way."
"Oh…I just…needed to make sure you went home safely. There's always something dangerous happening." Toru tried to excuse herself. Even in the middle of a serious moment, she couldn't tone it down.
"The point is, he's really bad. You were right not to come, he would have just hurt us worse if my Quirk didn't level up." Iruma stated.
"Yeah, don't blame yourself. We came out okay." Ochako patted her on the back.
"But literally almost everyone in class instantly agreed to help you guys, and I just got on my high horse and lectured you." She did her best to wipe away her tears. "I..I…"
"Tsu." Iida for the first time used her preferred nickname. "You know about the many, MANY mistakes I have made during my time here. I've made so many ill-judgments, and I can assure you I'll probably end up making more in the future. But whether or not who was right back then when we all made our choice, we're all capable of moving past it, because we're more than just a class of heroes."
"Yes, we're all a part of the same hero family." Momo reassured her. "And a real family forgives and forgets."
"You're one of the manliest girls I know!" Kirishima shouted out. "Your level headed no matter what the situation gives us."
"You've been a great sister to me ever since school started." Iruma grabbed her hands. "You're kind, funny, and try to help me get out of trouble when I say something dumb. You definitely feel more like family to me than my parents, and if I had to choose between you and them…well I wouldn't have to think twice about it."
She held his hands, tears running down her face. Her hiccups combined with croaking to make a terrible noise. "I'm so sorry … for all of this …" She pulled him close and hugged him. "Thank you for being family …" She felt every doubt and worry that's been building up melt away.
"That's what big brothers are all about." Iruma patted her back with his returned hug.
"Iruma…you're the little brother here." Shoto spoke for the first time during this conversation.
"What, no, I'm the big brother here! Like with Melissa!" The boy argued. She let out a giggle in between crying and croaking.
"Wait, that's why you were so protective of her?" Ochako didn't bother to contain her laughs. "Aw, that's so wholesome! A little brother trying to protect his big sis!"
"No, I'm her big brother! She was naive about how life worked and needed me to help her understand!" Everyone was laughing, the somber mood being instantly forgotten about.
"You're definitely the little brother here …" Her little brother, one that she would fight the whole world to help protect.
