-December 3, 1926, in the town of Nome-

A certain wolfdog is pacing nervously across the living room of a cozy, warm house, trying to listen through the door of the boiler room, hearing loud pants and such, through it was what the humans heard...He heard her cries of compliant, saying that it hurts and all...

Balto whined, folding his ears back worriedly, and a soft pat on his head, "Don't worry, Balto, Mom is helping Perdy. It's going to be over soon, and you can see your puppies.", and Balto gave a gentle lick at Rosie's hand, smiling a bit, grateful for Rosie's support.

It's still hard to believe that he is a hero for saving Nome, but he wouldn't have done it without his friends, the team, and Perdita. He only wanted to save Rosie and the children, because they were innocent and pure, not for fame or glory. He just wanted to be seen as a good dog despite being different in species and such...

And to think he ended up having a human family, a warm place to call home, and a beautiful mate he respects and loves very much, and now today, he's going to be a father...

Balto then heard Rosie's mother, "Oh, that's it, Perdita! You're doing so good!", and Rosie called out, "Mom, how many?", and Balto widened his eyes when he heard the answer, "Six! And she's still pushing, oh, make that 7!".

Rosie laughed, "Did you hear that, Balto?! Seven!", and Balto barked excitedly yet shocked, leaping around and spinning around, as a door opened and closed, Rosie's father walking in, "What's the excitement, Rosie?".

"Perdy's having her puppies, Dad! And it's seven!", Rosie replied, and Rosie's father widened his eyes, "Blimey!", as Balto barked, noticing the time, and realizing that it was already past his master's shift at work.

"8!", Rosie's mother announced, and Balto blinked in awe, and Rosie hugged him, "You're a dad 8 times over!", giggling, and then Balto heard the announcement, "9! And that looks like the last of them!".

Rosie cheered as Balto yipped happily, relieved that Perdita is no longer in pain anymore, as Rosie's father laughed, "It's marvelous. Good job, Balto.", ruffling Balto's fur fondly, and Balto panted happily at the attention before a sad reply, "8.".

Balto looked over in bewilderment and his breath caught, seeing Rosie's mother walk out, hearing Perdita's sad howl, seeing a small bundle, "We've lost one...", giving it to Rosie's father.

His heart started to beat faster as he walked to Rosie's father, whining as he took in the scent of the pup, a boy...His son...He lost a son...He looked up at Rosie's father as Rosie joined them, "Daddy...", and Rosie's father sighed, "It's one of those things, Rosie...Things happen...I'm so sorry, Balto...".

Balto gave a soft bark as he pawed at his master's leg, looking at the bundle, and Rosie's father frowned, "Well, I wonder...it wouldn't hurt to try...", before unwrapping the bundle a bit, and went to rub the pup fiercely yet gently as Balto stared, his heart clenching.

A few minutes passed, and Balto lowered his ears down in sadness as it looked like he lost his son, before Rosie gasped, "Balto, look!", and he looked up, seeing the bundle wiggling, hearing a whimpering sound, and he smiled widely as a tiny head peeked out, revealing a soft brown pelt with faded spots of gray that will soon darken over age.

His nose met his son's nose gently as his heart leaped in joy and relief, with Rosie's father announcing, "9! We have 9, Kat!", as Balto leaped into his lap, licking his master, thanking him so much for the miracle he did. He saved Balto's son!

His mistress walked out in relief and joy, "Thank heavens! Oh, John, you're a miracle worker! He's so lucky!", and Balto barked determinedly, and Rosie laughed, "I think Balto agrees. Lucky is his name!".

Rosie's mother chuckles, "I think you're right. Let me have him. Perdita would be so happy! Come, Balto, it's time to see her.", and Balto whines happily, following his mistress in, watching her cradle his son, his miraculous son, Lucky.

"Look, Perdita, it's your son...John saved him, can you believe it?", Rosie's mother replies, and Perdita gave out a relieved bark, licking her mistress' cheek, and their mistress chuckled, "I'll tell him that, and oh, your son's named Lucky. You want Balto?", and a happy whine came.

Their mistress smiles at Balto, "I'll leave you two alone. They're beautiful, Balto.", and leaves the warm boiler room, as Balto walks in, seeing Perdita look up with a content, grateful, and tired smile, "Oh, Balto...Our master saved Lucky...", as she looks down to see Lucky and his siblings feeding upon her belly or sleeping.

Balto whispered, "Our mistress's right...They're beautiful like you...", seeing quite a few looking a lot like Perdita, and Perdita chuckles, "And you as well, my love...", as Balto can see a couple looking more like his mother, and a couple others besides Lucky having his brown pelt.

Balto chuckled, "You're right...9 puppies...Wow...We're parents, Perdita...", smelling his pups' scents. Besides Lucky, he has four other sons, and four daughters. Perdita smiled softly, "Yes, and we'll raise them well with love...9 little miracles, and they will see their first Christmas as well.".

"No doubt about that...Uncle Boris, and the twins is going to love them...You think they might take after me, being a sled dog and all?", Balto replied, and Perdita giggles, "Maybe. Either way, they're perfect, and all ours...", before yawning and smiling contentedly, "I love you, Balto...".

Balto smiles, laying down, nuzzling his mate's head, "I love you too, Perdita, and our puppies too.", closing his eyes, hearing the faint sounds of his sons and daughters, his heart fulfilled as another one of his dreams has come true. Yes, it's a happy, miraculous day for them all.
