Age 14: Love and Family
"WOOOO!"

Jackie winced at the sudden shout from her best friend. "What?"

Sarah turned to Jackie and grinned, "I got COAL!"

Jackie turned to North confused, "I thought Sarah was good this year?"

"She was." North defended, "But she told me three months ago, that she enjoyed getting coal so she could make fire with her parents.

"And…" Sally screeched as she found what else was in her stocking. "A s'mores-making kit? WOOOO! THANK YOU NORTH!"

"You're welcome." North said, "Honestly, she is not the strangest kid I've gifted. But this is the first time I've seen someone happy about getting Coal.

"I mean." Jackie said, "Sarah's the kind of person to take things that are supposed to be bad and make them fun." Jackie said. "Coal has its uses. And she's a bit of a firebug."

"Fire and Ice," Jack said amused. "It fits the two of you."

"Opposites attract and all," Jackie said with a grin.

"Just be grateful that she doesn't have actually fire powers," Jonathan shouted at the two of them. "She's made our lives actual nightmares."

"I heard that!"

"You were meant to."

"Jerk."

"Pyro."

"I have never actually set a fire that was started where it was supposed to." Sarah said, "So" She stuck her tongue out at her brother."

"Kids." Their mother said with a fond smile. "Behave."

"Yeah," Jamie said stepping beside him his wife was happily bouncing their baby girl in her arms. "Wouldn't want your parents to drag you home early."

Sarah scrunched up her nose annoyed, "He started it." She pointed at her brother.

"Yeah, and now I'm ending it." Their mother said.

Sarah pouted and stalked off to Jane who was sitting a little way away a glass of wine in her hand. "Glad you could make it." She whispered. "Was your brother ever annoying?"

"Yes," Jane said without missing a beat giving a half smile at Jack. "All the time." Jane said, "Always playing tricks. Always causing mischief."

Jack rolled his eyes, "Oh like you were a perfect angel."

"Better than you." Jane shot back with a grin.

Jack rolled his eyes. "You are annoying."

Jane grinned and gave him a mock salute. "And you love me anyway."

"Yes. Yes, I do."

Jackie sighed and sat down on the ground.

"What is it, Honey?"

"Everyone has siblings." Jackie pouted. "Except for me." She said, "Sarah has Jonathan. Dad has Jane. You have Uncle Jamie. Tooth has Vanish. Even my cousins are twins. And your cousins are also siblings."

"I'm sorry," Sophie said ruffling her head.

"I'm kidding." Jackie said she wrinkled her nose, "Mostly."

"I thought I was an only child for most of my existence," Jack said sitting beside her and laying on the ground. "Trust me, sweetheart, You're not missing much."

A pillow smacked him on the back of his head, and he turned, "Hey!" He said with a slight laugh. "What was that for."

"Being an ass," Jane said taking a sip of her drink.

"It's true." Jack said, "Nothing's really changed since I found out I had a sister. Neither when I got my memories back nor when I found out that you were her."

Jane rolled her eyes. "Come on." She said.

"OK. Hey. All I'm hearing is that I'm missing out on not having a sibling to argue with?"

"I mean you are," Sarah said with a laugh. But It's not an overly big deal. We're basically your siblings anyway."

"I hope not."

"Or… I am. Jonathan's that weird neighbour who spies on us through the fence."

"That's not better," Jonathan said.

Sarah laughed.

"Ok. Are we just going to discuss the problems of having siblings or are we going to continue opening presents?"

"Yeah, hold on." Sarah turned her head, "Dad!"

"Yes?"

"Fire tonight."

"Did Santa really give you coal again?"

"Uh-huh."

Sarah's father glared a north for a hot moment before he sighed,"Christ. Fine. Ok. We'll cook marshmallows later today."

"Yay!" Sarah giggled before she turned back around and watched as Jonathan grabbed a present and gave it to Jackie.

"This is from me," Jonathan said softly.

Jackie gripped the present with a similar soft smile, her cheeks becoming a light pink. "Thank you."

Sarah sighed and lay back down.

Will sat down beside her, "You're not actually annoyed."

"No," Sarah said with a smile as she looked up at Will. She sat back up as Will sat beside her.

Jackie and Jonathan hadn't noticed, Both focused on Jackie's presence. Jackie's eyes widened as she pulled the wrapping off the gift. Her eyes widened when she saw it. "Oh, Jonathan." She whispered she looked toward him and gave him a light kiss on the cheek. "Thank you."

Jonathan flushed as Jackie pulled the book, she'd had her eye on for the past few weeks. "Yeah," Jonathan said. "I heard you liked that series."

Sarah looked down eying Will out of the corner of her eye, she could tell that he was staring at her his expression unreadable.

No that wasn't true. He was looking at her the way Jonathan was looking at Jackie, but he couldn't really be doing that. He was just teasing. He knew her secret. Knew that she was older then she appeared. That she was lying about her true age. Not to mention the horrible, awful things she had done almost 4 years ago.

He'd much rather be with someone his own age. Not with someone who was really 17.

Sarah coughed, "Next gift?"

Will volunteer to gift give next. "This is for you," Will said.

Sarah looked at the gift and smiled at Will before she ripped the paper off and blinked when she saw what he had given her.

She stared at Will for a long moment and then back at the gift.

"Thank you," Sarah whispered to him pulling the gift close to her chest. "I love it."

"What did he get you?" Jackie asked looking at her wide-eyed.

Sarah hesitated for a moment before she turned it around.

It wasn't anything special. Just a picture of her and Will skating on the ice. But it was taken during a time when she starting to get better. When she was truly happy.

It was a memory that she held on to during bad days. A reminder that things would get better.

"I hadn't realized you kept this," Sarah said.

Will shrugged, "It's a favourite memory for me too." He whispered."

Sarah smiled at him softly and gave him a tight hug. "Thank you." She whispered.

Sarah knew the others wouldn't get it.

That was fine.

Sarah grinned at Will, "OK, now open mine."

Will laughed and reached forward to grab Sarah's gift for him. He didn't waste time tearing off the packaging. "Aww. Thanks."

It was a book on magic spells that she'd been given a long time ago, back when they hadn't known what type of magic, she would specialize in.

Will looked at her and smiled a smile that made her heart skip a beat. He didn't lean forward to kiss her the way Jackie had Jonathan, but for a moment she got the distinct feeling that he… wanted to.

Sarah felt uneasy. Her stomach twists at the look. The knowledge that she doesn't deserve those feelings. Especially considering the totally unclear age difference.

But Sarah wasn't ready to have that talk ye. Sarah smiled and leaned forward and snatched Jonathan's gift from his hands.

Jonathan looked up at her indignantly, "Hey!" He said standing up and trying to reach for it.

Sarah giggled and danced out of his grasp. "Come get it!' She said before she turned and took off gathering amused yet confused glances from the guardians.

Jonathan rolled his eyes but couldn't stop himself from being dragged into her game and chased her up and down the workshop.
