"I still can't believe that Luz came up with this new magic!" she cheered holding the new magic as she was flung through time. "It's just like the new Azura book." Amity had tried to uncover what new magic she was working on this time, but Luz had been surprisingly secretive.
"I could have just read through her notes when she fell asleep at her desk, but she just looked so adorable with those cute little glasses that she puts on when she needs to concentrate."
Wonder where this thing is taking me? she mused seeing the past isles pass underneath but after a moment of thinking, she knew exactly when and where it was taking her. "Blight manor."
Sure, she'd created more happy memories since defeating Belos and the divorce and exile of her mom in the last few years, but she still had a decade's worth of terrible ones.
"It will be fine, Luz said It will only be an hour at most. I can do this!"
As the portal slowed down to the manor and fazed through the walls and into the main dining room she took a breath seeing her mom giving her younger self what was possibly the most emotionally abusive conversation ever. The one conversation that made her realize that Odalia didn't truly love her.
"But mom I tried my best-
"Your best! You call an A- minus your best!? Do you have any idea how embarrassing it is to have a daughter that's not at the top of her class!? Lilith, the head of the emperor's coven, is your teacher! and you bring home this embarrassing report card. Do you have any idea how many deals I had to make to get her to take you as an apprentice?"
"Seven."
"Seven just to get to her! It took seven more just to get her to say yes!" to her right her siblings were doing their best to not speak up as they quietly ate their food while their dad had his "better leave the parenting to Odalia" expression on as he fiddled with his latest invention.
I see it's this conversation. This was the one she got just after the covention with Luz, the one where Odalia had slapped her and called her things that to this day still hurt her. "I should have never had such a useless daughter." was still her recurring nightmare.
Seeing herself starting to cry and seeing her mother's hand raising she raised her own hand and shot from the bubble taking control of nearby abomination goo and flinging her mother into the wall. "Not this time Odalia."
Once everyone got over seeing Odalia thrown into the wall and wrapped and gagged Alador was the first to move. "Who are you and how did you get into our home!?" He questioned summoning six abomination hands which Amity easily banished with a snap.
After seeing this her sibling looked at her and then to a still emotional fourteen-year-old Amity before Emira walked around her. "I think it's Amity, but like the more mature version."
"Really?" Curious but still cautious, he examined her before looking at her younger self. "So, you are. Interesting, how in the titan's name did do this? Such a magic is the stuff of legend."
"That would be my girlfriend's work. She's pretty good at creating new magic. Luz really outdid herself this time. But then again Luz always is always unpredictable."
"L-Luz? Did you say Luz? As in that human?" Hearing the confusion Amity got eye to eye with her younger self hugging her and wiping the tears from her eyes. "Her name is Luz Noceda; the love of my life and she is by far the best thing that's ever happened to me."
"What?! But she made us look bad in front of Lilith! Sure she proved she could do magic but that doesn't make her a witch! She doesn't even go to Hexside!"
"Give it a week or two and not only will she be attending, but multitracking. Give her two and were on the track to becoming friends with Willow again, in a month we're calling her our girlfriend."
"What?!" she asked completely dumbfounded. Girlfriend! No... She's just an annoyance...even if she is kind of cute...and kind...As she started mumbling about dreaming her siblings asked about something that piqued their interest. "But Bump said multitracking is against the rules."
"He changes his mind after seeing what students can achieve giving the opportunity. In fact, both of you multi track, Emira you take up healing while Edric you take up potions and beastkeeping." she then remembered something. "Though Edric you almost wind up in detention for a year after your potion accident caused the animals to go into mating season early. School was shut down for a month, took another two to get rid of the small in the gym."
While her siblings began screeching about what their future held her younger self was looking at her very long and very not green hair. Eventually, she asked. "Why is our hair not green? You know mom want-prefers us with green hair." Prefers us, not wants, not thinks it suits us but prefers. Titan, I hated knowing she only gave us the bare minimum of attention when we acted like her perfect little daughter puppet.
"Because I got tired of dying it just because Odalia told us to. Sure, our natural brown is fine, but we wanted something all our own so with Emira's help after a little misunderstanding with Luz at the library we dyed and styled it. Wait I have a picture of what it will look like in a few weeks."
Amity couldn't contain her excitement when she saw the pictures of herself, or to be precise herself holding hands with Luz while watching some sort of square crystal ball. There were also more people such as Willow and Gus as well as some blonde boy and a older human women she guessed was Luz's mom and some kind of snake creature eating abomination cookies.
"What the?"
"Oh, that's one of pictures I have of us in the human world. We kind of got trapped there for a few months after we stopped the day of unity from killing all the branded witches."
"WUFF!" already knowing she was going to regret it she turned to Odalia who was just pulling off her gag. "Lies! Belos promised us witches a paradise! When the day of unity comes the families that proved their worth will be saved and the rest will be purged!" Four eyes shot to her each filled with confusion and horror. Having heard this all before, Amity did what she'd always wanted to do to shut her up. A moment later she was wrapped up into a abomination ball and thrown out the window.
"Six months and nineteen days." she uttered as she tried to get over the headace that came when dealing with her mother.
"What happens then?" Edric asked seeing their mother bounce down the hill.
"That's when dad finally divorces her, and we can finally be a happy family."
Alador let out a confused and slightly hopeful "Really?" looking out the window where Odalia had become stuck in a tree. "Yeah, but it still takes you a month to learn that you've been an absent father for years now."
"Hey dads not..." Emira tried to defend before realizing the last time they'd talked had been ages ago and been less than ten words. "Well, he's not as bad as mom" Edric tried to defend. "Yeah he at least listens." echoed her younger self. Amity took a deep breath before walking over to her dad. "Dad what is my favorite book series called?"
"ummmm the...golden cornicles?" silence, awkward silence filed the room as her younger self glanced at the stack of Emperor's coven history books that Odalia had gotten and forced her to read in order to prepare her for the future.
"No dad, it's the Azura series, the one book that you or mom didn't force me to memorize. Dad for years now you've been so absent or buried in your work that you barely know your own children. I mean it took you weeks to find out I was dating Luz, after I'd brought her here six times! even longer to realize I was dying my hair abomination purple instead of green."
He opened his mouth to speak but seeing her emotional expressions of his other children he simply said, "I'm sorry."
Sighing remembering when he'd told her those words after the brawl she hugged him. "I know your sorry dad but it takes you too long to realize that you're a dad in name only. At least In my time you're active and invested in our lives. I mean you even go out of your way to build a custom cauldron for Edric after he breaks his old one. You were even there at Camila's barbecue."
"Whose Camila?" everyone asked.
"Oh that's Luz's mom, lovely women, took us in when we needed it and is practically, no scratch that she basically is our mom at this point." When she showed them the pictures Edric and Emira couldn't help but laugh as there was their dad wearing a party hat and smiling as Eda poured him something called Taquilla while Darius attempted to slide a ring onto his finger. While just to their left Camila was hugging a very excited Amity. "Look at that Ed, looks like our little mittens got adopted."
"Yeah, Em kind of makes me jealous."
"Check out the next picture." unable to stop themselves they saw the next picture of them also happily being hugged while their cheeks were bright red.
Upon seeing these her younger self gasped especially when she saw the series of family photos that had her smiling with her family as well as with Luz. Then there were pictures she didn't quite understand. There was one of her giving the owl lady's pet demon a giant cupcake while he sat on s plushie throne, there was even a picture of her doing Willow's hair. Seeing her with her old friend brought up a series of confusion emotions.
"Willow and I become friends again? But she's... she's just half-"
"She is our best friend!"
"Sorry" she squeaked out.
Amity hugged her again. "No, I'm sorry for yelling, it's just she was our one friend and mom and dad, well mostly mom made us end things with her just to buddy up with Boscha and Skara. One of which we cut ties with until little miss three eyes takes what Luz calls a chill pill." Seeing her confused look, she scrolled down a few pictures to Boscha attending Luz's birthday and giving her a gift with a at least mostly genuine smile.
"Luz helps us forge our own path; sure, it gets pretty thorny along the way but I still wouldn't change it for a thing." As she spoke, she noticed her younger self glancing at her wrist. "So, I don't get into the emperor's coven then?"
"The coven system gets reformed into something better; we still have them but they're not mandatory. I'm mostly into exploring the isles and enjoying life with my family and friends." Her younger self's eyes winded and she let out a very excited squeal just as Odalia pushed open the door her outfit covered in goo. "That's it you future deceiver! I will not let all my hard work go to waste. Now, as your mother, I demand you tell me everything so I can make sure this awful future of yours never comes to pass."
"No."
"...Did you just say no?" Horrified, she grabbed her necklace and used her magic only for the younger versions one to activate. Amity, seeing this snatched it and crushed it further angering her. "Amity Blight you listen to your mother you useless girl!" In that moment Amity saw red and delivered what was possibly the most cantharidin slap in history straight into her mother's face.
To everyone's surprise Alador acted first wrapping her up in another abomination ball and having their servants push her into he basement. "I think we could all do without her for the night. Please Amity tell us about our futures, that as assuming you want to of course. I'd like to hear about this better future."
Taking a glance at her glyph she saw she had at least half an hour left and so spent it telling her family all about her life and of the events to come in the near future. Ed and Em gasped hearing about how she came face to face with a giraffe and a possum while her dad kept asking her about the various human technologies, she told them about. Even her younger self got invested when she got to the romantic moments with Luz. Even passing out when she showed her the cherished photo of Luz in her titan form. When she finally left she couldn't help but feel a bit bittersweet. But once she was back home she ran straight to Luz hugging her and her friends. All it took was one look at everyone's expression to know that they also had bittersweet experiences.
"So did you all enjoy you trip down memory lane?" Luz asked still teary eyed. They all nodded and hugged her, giving thanks for this opportunity.
