Magnus had always been satisfied with Alec. He knew the beta so well that when things did start to go a little funny he was always around to lend a helping hand, but he never expected any of this to happen. And now the whole Institute was on high alert and Magnus was feeling that he couldn't do anything.
He sprawled out on the bed he shared with Alec. Right now, Alec was in his office trying to figure out about things about the Clave. They were pestering him as of late and since they had started he had been spending more and more time working out. The Circle has been growing stronger and stronger it may be slow, but it was still happening.
Rumours have been coming out to the Clave that the circle was being based out of an area of New York and where the Institute was located. The Clave now wanted answers as to why and how all of this was happening and where the Circle's headquarters was located.
"What … the …" Magnus heard a banging and felt the walls shake coming from Alec's office. He got up and slowly waltz into his office.
Alec looked up from the desk where he was sitting. "Oh, I am sorry Magnus. I didn't mean to disturb you from your rest."
Magnus walked over behind the desk placing his hand on his shoulders. "You didn't Alexander, what happened that caused you to get so angry?"
Alec leaned into his hands. "The Clave is sending another envoy to check out the institute and I doubt that this one will go as well as the last one did. I mean the last 2 left our family still in charge at the end of them. But this one might not do that."
Magnus leaned down kissing Alec. "You aren't going to lose the Institute. There has to be someone still in Idris who is on your side."
Alec shook his head. "I don't think so, Magnus, well not in Idris at least. Most of them either want me out of here and have someone else in mind to take it over or want the Institute for themselves."
Magnus shut the door locking it. "They can't have it. You should go train with Jace that way I can watch my boy friend get all sweaty and hot and shirtless."
Alec nodded. "You always know how to make me feel better but you are going to have to unlock the door if we are going to do this."
Magnus smiled. With the wave of a hand a blue glow the door opened slowly. "You go ahead and start but make sure you are both shirtless by the time I get up there."
Alec got up running out of the room yelling Jace's name on the way to the training platform. Magnus waited a few minutes before waltzing towards the training platform slowly.
Jace and Alec were both shirtless going at it with sticks one weapon that they both enjoy equally. They continue to fight even when Magnus arrived and watched them with eager eyes. Right up until Elexa comes to the training platform in search of Alec. She looked at Magnus, with longing eyes. This only annoyed Magnus constantly. Most of the Institute knew that Magnus wanted an omega and was semi looking for one. So, most of the omegas were trying to get his attention.
Magnus huffed, glaring at her. "What do you want?"
She smiled. "There is a private call from Idris for Alec. I forwarded it to his office for him."
Magnus waved her away before walking onto the platform stopping the 2 boys almost instantly. He looked at Alec, "there is a call for you in your office."
Alec looked at him, grabbing his t-shirt, putting it on. "Who is calling, do you know?"
He shrugged. "All Elexa said was that it was someone from Idris. She didn't say it was someone from the Clave though, so that is at least a good thing."
Alec smiled and started walking towards his office. After a few seconds he looked back at Magnus. "Are you coming?"
He looked blankly. "Alexander, this is apparently a private call. I don't think I should be there for it. Despite being your mate."
Alec shook his head. "Nonsense. You can be there. Besides I'm going to tell you whatever is said anyway. And yes, I will tell that person whoever is calling exactly that." He walked over to his boyfriend kissing him. "Let's go deal with this call then we can have some alone playful time together."
Alec walked into his office, Magnus followed closing and locking the door behind them. Alec walked to the desk taking a seat gesturing for Magnus to lean on the back of the chair as usual. Turning his tablet on to start the call.
'Well aren't you a sight for sore eyes?'
"Amelia, well it has been years. That looks like the Downworld headquarters behind you?"
She smiled. 'That's because I've been queen of the downworlders in Idris. After all I am both a shadow hunter and a wereleopard. It kinda means that the downworlders here know 97% of what goes on with the Clave."
Alec smiled, he could feel Magnus's hand on his shoulder helping them both to stay calm. "Though I would love to catch up I am currently a little busy. You know the Clave's envoy?"
Amelia laughed, 'Yes, I know about the envoy. That is why I called you in the first place. We need to discuss the envoy, He is coming to take over, he wants the institute and your team as a mere weapon in his arsenal, well most of your team. But I could help you with him if I was there.'
Alec shrugged. "So, come here then."
She glared at him. 'Parabatia, you very well know I can't just vanish. The Clave will be up in arms if I just up and left.'
Alec felt his rune on instinct. "What if we come and get you? I could have Magnus portal us to your court. Bring you here to help establish better relations with some of the downworlder communities in New York."
She nodded. 'You know that might work. I look forward to meeting your new mate in person. As well as Jace's beta which I hear he has found himself.'
Alec nodded looking up at Magnus. "We will be 2 hours or so. Portal into the throne room and ask to be taken to the queen as we use to do in order to speak to your "father"?" he put air quotes around it.
She nodded. 'Yes. I should be around. I have no real need to go to the actual city today.' She thought for a second before looked at them again. 'Make sure you don't glamour your weapons. Some of the guards have the sight. Also, there is the matter of the secret that needs to be discussed.' With that she hung up the call.
Magnus glared at the screen. "What secret?" He turned to Alec as the call had ended. "What was she talking about?"
Alec sighed heavily. She always hung up like that. Part of him wanted to call her back and yell at her. Yet he knew it would be useless. "Gather our full team, Simon and Luke too, we need to discuss something as a team before we take off to Idris."
Magnus sat there for a minute still stunned. But waved his hand when Alec got to the door. "No! As your mate and alpha, I wish to know what this secret is."
Alec shook his head. "It isn't my secret to tell and unfortunately we don't have time for this, Magnus. Unlock the door, you'll understand soon enough, promise."
Magnus got up and left, kissing Alec softly before leaving the room. Alec was back on the phone talking quietly in seconds.
break
Jace walked into Alec's office sitting down on the couch. "You needed something?"
Alec shook his head. "Just to tell you something. Envoy from the clave that is coming knows either you or Amelia is an omega. And because she is now Queen of the Downworld in Idris, they are positive that it is you."
Jace sat back. He had known with their third if she ever became queen that the question would arise. And since Magnus was High Warlock then they knew that Alec had to be a beta. Which meant either Jace or Amelia had to be the omega and since no omega had ever been queen, the going theory was that Jace was the omega. "So … you aren't going to lie to the clave or bow to their wishes, are you?"
Alec glared at him. Despite the fact that he was the head of the New York Institute and the single best archer. He was still just a beta. If Jace really wanted to he could order Alec to tell the Clave the truth and just be done with all this nonsense. "No Jace. Magnus and I are going to the Downworld to discuss this and retrieve our wayward parabatia. I was hoping to convince her to stay in New York, give up being queen and join a triad with Magnus and I."
Jace nodded, feeling slightly guilty for think the worst. "What do you need?"
Alec looked down. What he was about to ask wasn't fair. "2 things. First while Magnus and I are gone, stay here and train, relax, bond, whatever, just no missions unless absolutely necessary. Second, I need your help. If someone shows up to force her back to Idris I want to keep her here. But I can't be seen as the cause of it though."
Jace nodded. "Don't worry. I wanted a few days off to spend with Clary and Izzy because Izzy should be going into heat soon anyway."
Alec nodded. "I will inform everyone of the issue of no missions before we leave. Magnus is gathering everyone for me right now, well at least our team."
Jace smiled. "We will be fine here. And if I have to I will order our omega to stay here for me, so stop worrying about it."
Alec smiled. Today hadn't gone the way he had intended it to happen. But he had wanted Amelia as his omega for ages. Maybe he should tell Magnus the truth. As Jace got up to leave, Alec stopped him. "As an alpha I have a question for you." Jace nodded, looking pointedly at Alec. "If your beta wanted something and you knew but didn't know what it was, what would you do about it?"
Jace smiled. "Honestly, I would train with her until she gave it up. Not allow her to stop. But I feel Magnus is more patient, however if he knew about that one weakness you had I'm sure he would use it."
Alec gulped. "You're probably right. Now we best get to that meeting room before Magnus portals into here."
They both left walking down the hallway together. When they got to the meeting room they walked in the door together before Jace took a seat, Alec stood at the head of the table. "For the next day or so all of you are to remain in quarters. Luke, you can roam around as you have a day job. But the rest of you, NO MISSIONS, at all. Jace has assured me that this order will be upheld, and I expect to find each of you to be "home" when I return."
They all nodded. Luke followed Alec out of the meeting room. "Is everything okay?"
Alec shook his head, motioning for Luke to follow into his office. "Have you ever heard of the Clave leaving an omega in a position of power?"
Luke looked at him. "Unfortunately, the Clave believes that because of their heats, especially were animal omegas, are very unpredictable. I have seen them have the leader killed despite the issues that begin because of it."
Alec nodded. "Thank you. I have to go. We are portalling from Magnus's loft, that way the Institute won't know. Very few people know where we are going but I'm sure you've guessed."
Luke nodded, "Safe travels, Alec. Bring her here safely." With that he left.
break
Alec looked around, holding his bow in his head, he laughed for a second looking at his mate, his alpha's cat eyes were very visible. "Magnus, calm down nothing will happen to us."
"Alexander, I don't like this. We are in the center of the downworlders city and you are a shadowhunter. They could kill you on the spot."
Alec just shook his head. "Killing me would be their death. First, you'd kill them then I'm sure Amelia would too."
"She wouldn't dare protect a shadowhunter." The voice came from the left and a few second they were surrounded by what looked to be wereanimals, and one Seelie who appeared to be running the show.
Alec smiled. "Is Amelia here in the downworlders headquarters?" The Seelie nodded to him. "Good, escort us to her."
"The warlock can come, however you shadowhunter must remain here under guard. We have had issues lately with your kind."
"She is expecting both of us. As his alpha, I demand he comes with me at least to the door of the queen's chambers. Then you can go inside and tell the queen that she has 2 visitors from New York." Magnus smiled at Alec, he knew killing either of them would be very bad.
The Seelie nodded leading the way. When they got to the door he stopped. "Go inside tell the queen who you are, as an alpha myself I understand the desire to keep your beta or omega safe, and therefore the door will remain open."
Magnus hesitated for a second before walking through the doors letting them swing open. The room was small, well smaller than he was expecting. But at the other side a chair sat with a "figure" sitting. Through his cat's eyes he could see glamour that shadowhunters could do. He bowed when he got close to her.
When she de-glamoured, she smiled. "Warlock, state your business in this chamber."
Magnus gulped, she breathed authority. "I am Alec Lightwood's alpha and mate, he is outside the door."
She stood for a second. "Send the shadowhunter in. Find Drew, tell him I need him. Have him portal to me. But do not disturb me again for a few hours."
In mere seconds. Alec was brought through the door before there were shut even the guards in the chamber left. Alec looked around. "Well that wasn't comfortable."
Amelia walks up hugging him. "I'm sorry, long story but basically that Seelie guard doesn't like shadowhunters at the moment."
Alec looked at her. "What happened?"
She walked to the couches having a seat. But followed sitting down together. "About 4 days ago, his omega went hunting in the woods. She is very young and new werewolf, only about 12. Anyway, while she was hunting, she came across 2 hunters who thought she was hunting a mundane. They almost killed her before 2 guards seen this and went to save her. I went and reported it to the Clave and that is how I found out about the envoy." Magnus fidgeted in his seat besides Alec playing with his hand or running his fingers over Alec's 6-pack. "You seem nervous, what's on your mind, Magnus?"
His mouth opened and shut a few times. "You know my name?"
She nodded. "Alec told me about you. Plus, the parabatia bond allows a lot to pass through when both doors are open. Now what's on your mind that you're restless?"
Magnus looked at Alec before beginning. "At the end of the call you mentioned a secret. What secret did you mean?"
Amelia met eyes with Alec for a second, before Alec shook his head. "I didn't tell him."
Amelia smiled. "I thought you would have told him by now. If not then I was sure Jace would have."
Magnus huffed. "Well he didn't. Jace is far too busy with Clary and Izzy to tell … " he stopped. Looked at Amelia who was smirking. "If a parabatia bond is like a regular bond then Jace is an alpha, Alec is the beta that makes you the omega." He looked at both of them. "Was that the secret?"
Amelia nodded. "The Clave doesn't know Jace's status in his triad. Honestly with Clary being the daughter of Valentine they think she is the alpha. But they dislike omegas going on missions. So not only would it be outing me but Izzy too."
Alec looked. "She won't like that." He looked at his phone it said he had missed 2 calls one from Luke and another from Jace. "But we should get going are you packed?"
Amelia nodded. "But I need a word with Drew before I leave here it is kind of important. He should be here by now." She got up walking towards the door. "Magnus, you can wait here, but Alec you should come with me on this errand. I don't exactly trust our seelie population at the moment and that is who is mainly guarding the city right now."
Magnus smiled. "I'll come with I'd love to see more of this wonderful city you have."
Amelia smiled. "We are just going next door. Drew was probably with his omega and so he has frightened most of the population about disturbing that, but my orders are meant to be followed no matter what."
She walked right in the door to find a sock on the doorknob of the inner door and a guard standing there.
"My Queen," he bowed, "We know what the sock means, and I didn't want the High Warlock upset with me."
She glared at him. "So, you rather me be upset with you? I have business to deal with, I send out everyone to find Drew. Low and behold you found him but are too scared to pass on the message. Go to my chamber and wait there until I return."
With that the seelie scurried off, and Amelia knocked twice then walked in, Magnus and Alec followed. "Drew, I need a word with you, prefer no other ears around though." She yelled from the entrance way. A minute later a man walked up.
He looked maybe 20 with short curly black hair and bright blue eyes. "My lady, you didn't need to yell. And I do not appreciate you bringing an armed shadowhunter here."
She stepped closer. "Well if you hadn't scared all the guards this would be happening in my chambers. Sadly, that isn't the case."
Drew motioned to the chairs moving towards them. "You must need something, what can I do?"
Amelia huffed. "As second in command, I need you to take over for a few days. I need to leave with these two, now."
Drew nodded. "What about Idris?"
Amelia shrugged. "Give them the run around. Have a scout watch for Christian leaving. When he does tell Samuel, he can go ahead and give the 3rd gift to Sophia."
Drew just nodded.
Amelia walked out, pulling Alec along with her. When they got outside, she turned looking at Magnus. "I'd hate to ask but can you portal us back into my chamber? I want to let the guard stand outside the door for a long while."
Magnus nodded. Creating a portal, holding his hand out. When you got into chamber, both he and Alec looked around worried. Magnus voiced their concerns first. "There is someone here."
Amelia looked around before pointing out a giant wolf. "Raven, please stop being scared come out from there." A large grey spotted wolf came out from behind the chair before turning back human.
He walked over. "I'm sorry. Just your chamber is really the safest place, especially being an unclaimed beta."
Amelia went over to him. "Well Drew is going to in this chamber for a bit. I am going on a mission."
He looked up. "Can I come? I promise I'll be helpful. You know I'm the best fighter around, well for a beta."
Amelia turned to looked at Alec, with pleading eyes. Alec nodded to her with a small smile. Amelia looked at the beta. "Go pack a small bag. You have only 5 minutes." He turned to leave. "Raven, stay in human form, and keep quiet." He ran out of the chamber.
Amelia led the way to her room. It was half as big as her chamber. The bed was in the center of the room. Alec looked at his phone, another 2 missed calls from Jace.
He turned to Amelia. "Can I use your private call system? I've missed 3 calls from Jace."
Amelia nodded pointing at the desk, walking over turning on her tablet before sitting down. Alec and Magnus weren't in view as she made a call to the institute.
'New York Institute … '
"I need to speak to Jace Wayland, now." She held up a hand telling them to say nothing.
'Ma'am, I'm sorry he isn't to be disturbed.'
"As his parabatia I demand to see him, now get him."
'But ma'am, Alexander Lightwood is his parabatia, and miss I told you he isn't to be disturbed."
Amelia's eyes glowed orange. "Patch the call through, he has been trying to call me. Therefore, he is expecting this call."
The girl looked scared. 'Yes ma'am, one second.'
A second later Jace appeared. 'Amelia, I called Alec, but it didn't go through.'
"I know the warlock wards help keep us from getting tracked. But your missed calls showed up. He is right here." Amelia stood up. "Don't worry this room is completely secure."
Alec took a seat. "What do you need?"
Jace dropped his head. 'Clary got a call, not too sure from who but she left immediately after.'
Alec shook his head. "Dammit Jace. You were supposed to keep her there. Can't you track her?"
'Unfortunately, her deflect rune was activated.'
Alec looked at Amelia and she nodded.
"We will be there soon, prepare 2 rooms."
'Okay, I will make sure we are ready.'
With that he ended the call. Amelia grabbed her bag. Opening the door revealing the boy standing there.
"My Queen, there is a guard outside waiting for you to arrive. He thinks you aren't here."
Amelia nodded. "And it will remain that way."
Raven looked at Alec, realizing he was a shadowhunter, and growled openly at him.
Amelia looked down. "I know, he is a shadowhunter. But you will understand that not all shadowhunters are like the ones that attacked your sister or murdered your parents. He is my other half, a part of my soul."
Raven nodded. "I will do my best to hold control."
Amelia smiled. "Let's go, we have a lot to do."
Magnus made the portal. "We are going to the loft."
