DISCLAIMER:
Though I have a great amount of affection for the people and places mentioned in this story, I own the rights to only a few of them. The series Terra Nova and all that is included under its banner are owned by FOX, and the talented writers that created it.

Dedicated to my family.
Family has always been at the heart of this story, so I dedicate this book to my own.
For the training you've given me in harnessing my overactive imagination and using it for good instead of evil. For the first-hand experience in playful banter and hilarious battles of the wits you've unleashed upon me all my life.
Without your guidance over the years, I wouldn't have had the resources I needed to write these books, and without your encouragement, I wouldn't have had the confidence to try.
Thank you. I couldn't get by without you.
I love you guys! ;)

Terra Nova

Before the Future

Prologue

"There's an old saying.

Before the future can live, the past must die.

Doesn't sound particularly hopeful from where we're standing, does it?"

Reilly smiled down at the group of solemn faces in front of her. It had been a hard month, and the signs of it were beginning to show. Nevertheless, the soldiers below smiled back at her bravely, despite their exhaustion. She looked into their eyes, one by one, willing them to keep up hope.

"I'd like to offer a more appropriate version, if you'll allow me.

Before the future can be retaken, the past must be released.

We've lost some good people over the last few weeks, good men, good soldiers. We will never forget them. I would never ask you to, but I need you to let them go and move ahead. Don't get caught up in what happened yesterday. Yesterday is over. I need you to fight for today. I need you to fight for tomorrow.

None of us were born here, but this is our home. If the enemy threatens our home, we fight back. If they break down our doors and strike us left and right, we fight back harder. And if the walls of this colony collapse upon us, we will keep fighting. We are Terra Nova, and we will take back our future, whatever it takes.

FOR TERRA NOVA!"

The returning cry brought a swell of pride to her heart, just as it had every time, since the very first day she had sent a unit off to the front. She saluted her men, praying this wouldn't be the last time she saw their faces in this life.

"FOR TERRA NOVA!"

Author's Note

Well, hallo hallo, m'guys!
*taps fingers on bench thoughtfully as I snazzily slide you over a tall glass of chocolate milkshake*
Nice to see you all here again as we begin our last journey (probably .. one can never be sure of these things).
I appreciate all your encouragement over the years (years?! Yikes, has it really been that long?!). Your reviews have given me so much joy and your excitement has kept my own going strong! I still love writing these stories, even after finishing two whole books, and I'll do my best to make this one worthy of you!

Away we go! Enjoy the ride!
*blasts off, coattails flying cheerfully behind me*
