NOTE: THIS STORY CONTAINS TOPICS OF SUICIDE, IF YOU ARE EASILY TRIGGERED BY SUCH A SUBJECT, LEAVE NOW.
THE CITY PULSED BENEATH Spider-Man's feet as he swung effortlessly through the glittering skyline. His webbing shot out, connecting with the distant structures, propelling him forward with a fluid grace. The cold night air rushed past him.
Between the towering skyscrapers, Spider-Man navigated with an innate familiarity, a silent guardian surveying his realm. The city lights flickered below, reflecting off his sleek costume. His sharp eyes scanned the streets for any signs of trouble, none. It was Christmas.
As he swung higher, the wind tousled his mask, revealing only glimpses of determination in his intense gaze. The rhythmic thwip-thwip of his web shooters echoed through the concrete canyons.
The festive glow of Christmas decorations adorned the city, casting a warm ambiance amid the winter chill. Spider-Man felt a touch of holiday spirit as he swung higher, the distant sound of carolers.
Spider-Man's vigilance remained, his sharp eyes searching for any subtle hints of distress amidst the Christmas cheer. As he swung through the city, the blend of festivities and potential danger kept him alert, a reminder that even on Christmas night, his responsibility as a hero persisted.
As he swung higher, his keen senses picked up on a subtle disturbance. A lone figure stood at the edge of a rooftop, the city's glow casting shadows on their silhouette.
Spider-Man adjusted his course, landing with a soft thud near the troubled young man."Hey, kid," Spider-Man spoke gently, his silhouette illuminated by the ambient city lights. The young man turned, eyes betraying a mixture of surprise and desperation.
Spider-Man, sensing the young man's need for a listening ear, settled down on the rooftop. "Nice coat," he said gently.
The kid took a deep breath, the city's distant hum providing a subtle soundtrack. "Please go away. Please."
Spider-Man nodded, his masked face reflecting understanding. "You picked a nice roof."
The young man looked at Spider-Man, searching for elaboration in the masked face. "What?"
Spider-Man leaned back, his gaze fixed on the starlit sky. "This is a nice roof, I like it. Nice... Chill place."
The kid's expression hardened a bit, as if Spider-Man had just insulted him. "I came here to kill myself you idiot." The kid sits down at the edge of the building with spidey, snow wafting off the edge.
Spider-Man's gloved hand played with its twin, picking at it. Spidey then decides to do something.
"How'd you like to see Avengers tower, I hear Tony Stark's gonna be there." Spider-Man spoke, trying to change the subject.
The kid's gaze remained guarded, a mix of skepticism and pain in his eyes. "I don't even know you." The words spilled out, a raw expression of doubt.
Spider-Man sighed beneath his mask, understanding the skepticism. "Fair point... How 'bout this?"
Spider-Man takes his mask off, it's silky spandex stretches tightly around his face, before revealing a young man, with a slight stubble dusting his jaw.
The kid didn't react, his expression remained static, he didn't really care. "Why can't you just let me try?" The kid pleaded?
"Try what?"
"Try ending this. I just want it to be over." The kid's gaze fatered between Spider-Man and the city below. "I know you can just... save me... or whatever, but at least let me try."
Peter sighs, "I can't let you do that." He places a gloved hand on the Kid's shoulder, at that, the kid flinches.
"Why!?"
"You know why."
The kid tensed, he stood up, at the edge of the roof again, all too familiar. A defensive posture against the vulnerability that threatened to surface. "You don't get it. I want this."
"I know..." Peter said simply, a downtrodden expression playing on his features. "What about your family, friends?"
"Don't do that. Don't fucking say that." The kid spat, venomous.
"I get it. It's hard. But do you really wanna die? There's so much life to live, man." Peter urged, a slight edge to his tone, desperation?
The kid looked away, the city's lights reflecting in his troubled eyes. "You shouldn't care, no one should, you don't know me."
Peter watched as the kid began pacing along the edge of the roof, but Spidey remained seated.
"You're right, I don't." Peter replied, his voice carrying a solemn understanding. "But it's my job to care."
The kid's frustration lingered in the air as he spoke again, "You shouldn't, I'm a fucking waste of time." He almost sobbed those words out.
Peter's gaze held a mix of empathy and determination. "I won't pretend like I know what your going through, I don't." Pete acknowledged, "But I know that your hurting, I know I wanna help." Spidey gets up. "And to me... I think that's enough."
The young man met Peter's gaze, a spark of defiance in his eyes. "And what if it doesn't work? What if I just jump?" The boy asked, a tear running cold down his face, "What if I regret it?" That last question was heartbreakingly soft and quiet.
Peter paused, the weight of the question hanging in the air, his eyes watered, his lip quivered slightly. "Then I'll save you."
"..."
"I want to help you, not because I wanna feel good about myself," Peter kneels down, getting to the kid's level, he places his hands on the kid's shoulders, a pleading expression, "But because I care, I don't want you to die."
The young man looked at Spider-Man, a mix of surprise and confusion evident in his water-brimmed eyes. "Please... just go."
Spider-Man wrapped his arms tight around this kid in response, his expression pained.
The kid's mouth twitched, a sob breaking through. The young man, caught between despair and the unexpected comfort of Spider-Man's presence, clung to the hero as if holding onto a lifeline.
"I'll go..."
Spider-Man patted his back in response during this warm embrace.
"I'll go with you... to... to umm... to Avengers tower." The kid released his grip from Peter.
"Okay..." Peter finally released his grip, he stood up, putting his mask back on.
"C-... Come on" The kid urged weakly.
With that, Spider-Man stood, offering a hand to the young man.
"Climb on... piggyback."
