It's about a girl named Alyssa. Until she was only seven years old, she had a faithful life. She lived happily with her mother and father in a beautiful house in Seattle. It was a great life, they had each other with their hopes and dreams. Along with their desires too.
Then one day a terrible thing has happened while Alyssa and her parents were on their way home from the water park. A drunken driver crashed into them and killed Alyssa's mother and father. This is a nasty thing that can happen to two beloved parents.
Their own troubles if they have any at all were over in a flash of light. They were dead and gone in twenty five seconds flat. For Alyssa however, her troubles were just the beginning. She was sent away to live with her step uncle and his wife. He is her mother's step brother. He is known as Lyle and I'm sorry to say, but he's a really horrible person.
Right from the beginning, he started to beat up Alyssa for almost no reason at all. His wife Uma is just as awful as he is and she told Alyssa that girls like her should be seen and not heard at the same time. They made her wear rags and force her to do all of the chores in the house.
She even had to sleep in the garage. As time went on, she became sadder and more lonely than ever. After Alyssa lived with her step uncle and aunt for two years, there came a time when she should've done something before.
Something that she should've done since moving in with them. She decided to run away, but has to pick the right night for that. She would anyway.
