There is a girl named Elizabeth. Until she was only about seven years old, she had a faithful life. She lived happily with her mother and father in Maryland. It was a great life, they had their hopes and dreams. Then one day, while Elizabeth and her parents were on their way home from the amusement park, a terrible thing happened.
A wrong turn made a crash and killed Elizabeth's mother and father. This as well as you can imagine was a nasty thing that can happen to two beloved parents. Their troubles, if they have any were over in a matter of times, at least it was quick. They were dead and gone in fifteen seconds flat.
Elizabeth's troubles were just the beginning. She was sent away to live with her step uncle. Her uncle is named Walt. I'm sorry to say it, but he's a really horrible person. He treated her like a slave and right from the beginning, he starts to beat poor Elizabeth for almost no reason at all.
He gave her rags to wear and made her sleep in the basement. He made her do all of the work in the house. She was told by her step uncle who is in fact her father's step brother that she shouldn't speak unless she is spoken to.
As time went on, Elizabeth became sadder and more lonely. Elizabeth was abused, humiliated and forced to become a servant. In her heart, Elizabeth hoped she would be free from the life she's in.
After Elizabeth lived with her step uncle for three years, there came a time when she decided that she must leave the life she's in and run away. She wasn't sure what day though, but she'll figure it out and find out at the same time.
Then she was told by Walt that he is going out for the night and won't be back till the next morning. She decided to run away that very night.
