Kay's phone lit up for the umteenth time. Roman looked at the display and saw her father's name. She had been getting calls and texts from all her family members since she ran out of the house last night. She had put her phone on mute last night before going to bed, otherwise they would have been woken up all night.
"They're not giving up," he said.
"Eventually they will," she said. "I hope."
"It's okay to block family members. Sometimes we need to," he said.
"I know," she sighed. "It's just hard, you know."
"I know," he said.
She leaned back to lie on the couch. He was fast on top of her. She giggled lowly and he smirked at her before moving down for a kiss. It had been a weird night and morning, but it had also been good. Ever since the truth came out last night, it was as if a barrier had been broken and she had no more walls up for him to climb.
She had told stories half the night about everything her mother had put her through. It had hurt to hear but he had been holding her in his arms while listening to it all. It was important to both of them to get everything out in the open. It only made him love her even more that she finally trusted him enough to let him in completely. She had even showered with him this morning which was huge to him.
"So what's the plan today?" He asked.
"I don't know. I have to go home eventually," she said.
"You don't have to. You can stay here for another night," he said.
"I have to go home. Lolo is home alone. I filled her food bowl before I left yesterday but she will get through it at some point today," she said.
Lolo was her white pet rabbit. She loved that rabbit and he had grown to love it too. He knew they were a package deal and he was ready to accept that. She was a free range rabbit who got to run around in her apartment. She had trained Lolo to use a litter box and to sleep in an open cage at night where her food and water bowls also were.
"We can pick up Lolo and bring her here," he said.
"I'm not sure you're ready to trip over a rabbit who thinks the most funny game is to attack your feet when you least expect it," she said.
"I'm ready," he chuckled. "Besides, me and Lolo are tight. She loves me."
"She's a good judge of character," she said.
He sat back up while she continued to lie on the couch.
"I mean it. We can pack a bag for you and bring Lolo here too. You can stay for as long as you want," he said.
"It would be nice with a week's vacation with the hottest towel boy in town," she said.
"Towel boy!" He snorted. "That's what I get for waiting patiently to get you in the shower. I have been demoted to towel boy."
"I just want you to walk towards me with dripping wet hair and a towel around your waist that I can pull off before jumping you and having my way with you," she said.
"That can be arranged," he smirked.
She laughed, sat up too, and gave him a kiss.
"I think I would like to stay here for a couple of days," she said.
"Let's go get Lolo then," he said.
They got out in his car and drove towards where she lived.
"Stop the car!" She hissed.
He stepped on the brake and they both looked further down the street. He could see her father and brothers walking around along with a woman.
"Is that your mother?" He asked.
"Yes," she sounded scared. "Turn around. Don't let them see me."
He turned the car around and started driving away again.
"Fuck!" She shouted. "Lolo! I need to get Lolo!"
He pulled the car over and took out his phone.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Calling my lifeline," he answered. "Both of them."
