It's Saturday.
Maya woke up very excited. Her date with Koert was everything that she could think of at the moment, and everything she did that morning reflected that, from the hygiene to the fashion choices. She put on her best possible makeup, put on her shiniest necklace, the jacket with inner pockets, black pants, and black timbs. Her hair was also done differently: she had it loose and perfectly-straightened, yet still kept a smaller version of her usual side swept bang. Overall, she did her absolute best to leave a good impression on Koert.
It was agreed for the two to meet in a specific park not too far from Maya's home at 10 AM, so she had to leave earlier, at 9:30 AM. Before that, however, she drank until she felt numb enough to the nervousness and hid her bottles of alcohol inside her jacket. Then, she got on her bike and went to the park. At first, Koert was not there, so she kept looking around. Her vision was blurry, but she could recognize beautifully multi-colored leaves on the ground, frost on the ground, other benches, people walking around, and some bushes.
But, wait a minute. There was someone in one of the bushes, and they appeared to be looking right at her. Maya asked if it was Koert, which made the figure storm off. It appeared to be a black girl with part-black, part-ginger hair. The figure looked familiar to her...
Before being able to analyze it further, however, Koert suddenly showed up on a bicycle.
"Hey, Maya!", Koert shouted from a distance.
"Hey, Koert!", Maya shouted back.
He then parked his bike and shook Maya's hand.
"Wow, you look great today!", He remarked.
"Why, thank you!", Maya replied.
"So, Maya, how's everything going?"
"Everything's good, how about ya?"
"Same here!"
"So uhm...", Maya began. "Where should we go first?"
"I know a very cozy café nearby.", Koert said. "It's very gezellig, if you will."
"Good idea!", Maya said as she got on her bike. "Take us there!"
Koert then got on his bike and got to said café, with Maya following him. There, they got themselves some espressos and a slice of tiramisu each. She hasn't been to such place in a very long time, and last time, she had to be forced to go. This, however, just felt right.
"So...", Koert began as he took a sip of his espresso. "How's your week been?"
"It's been great, Koert!", Maya replied. "Especially since I got to meet you and Anke!"
"Haha, I'm proud to have been the highlight of the week for ya! It's... honestly quite flattering."
"You think so?", Maya then started giggling.
"Yeah... No girl has shown this much appreciation for me before..."
Maya could only blush at this very moment. She managed to impress her crush! Is this when she takes all her possible chances?
"Hey, I'm just being sincere right now!", Maya replied. "Ever wonder why I was so nervous in the bus that one time?"
Then, it clicked on Koert. Maya really saw him as more than just a friend. A LOT more than just a friend...
"I see...", He replied, still wanting to seem clueless.
They then finished her snacks without even saying a word to each other. To both of them, it's like enough has been said. Now, only time could tell what will happen...
"So, uh...", Koert said as he finished his tiramisu. "Should we go somewhere else now?"
"Yeah, sure!", Maya replied. "What do you have in mind?"
"Honestly... let's just go bike through all sorts of scenic places around town. There's only so much we can see!"
"Good idea, Koert!"
They then jumped on their bikes and went through all sorts of parks, bridges, monuments, and even historic buildings. They talked for hours about what they knew about the history of each place, as well as how nice they all looked. And, each time, their bond grew even closer.
Then, at late evening, they went to the same place they met each other.
"So, Maya...", Koert began. "This has been pretty cool!"
"Indeed, Koert!", Maya replied enthusiastically. "I loved seeing all those things with you!"
"Glad to hear! But, anyway, I think both of us have to go now!"
"Indeed, Koert, I promised to be home in, like, half an hour. So, uh... goodnight!"
"Goodnight, Maya! Let's have some more talk though WhatsApp!"
Koert then rode his bike back home, and Maya rode back to her home. Throughout the rest of the day, Maya could only reminisce about what happened that day. It felt amazing to do all of those things together with Koert. It felt personal. It felt... romantic. She felt like she was about to strike big at any given moment, and she couldn't wait!
