Chapter 23: Danny Phantom vs The Wendigo
The wind raged on, Danny's eyes were closed. He blocked out the sounds of the wind, he feel of the snow hitting him, all to wait for the one last opportunity he had to free those cursed and end this monster's reign for good.
All the while, he thought back to when he was armed.
1 hour and a half prior
At FentonWorks, he was taken to the Emergency Opt Center by his parents, giving him an assortment of tools.
"Take the Fenton Gloves, you can use the extra muscle." Jack said.
"And my saber has always been reliable. Use it well." Maddie said graciously.
"And the trust Jack O' Nine Tails" Jack went, handing Danny said weapon.
"Thanks, guys… I'm hoping that, even though he's not a ghost, he should still feel enough pain from this stuff." He said.
"One last thing though… something new." Jack said as he ran towards the weapons vault to retrieve it.
Danny, curiously, looked to his mother.
"New gadget?" He asks.
"Not exactly." Maddie admitted.
Jack returned and, to Danny's surprise, it was a sword.
No indication of electricity, no sign of it being mechanical in any way, just a sword.
"It's made from the metal of that alien suit we got from Kentucky. It's got traces of silver, which my 3 second web search on what Wendigos are weak against says they're weak against." Jack said.
Danny took the sword and put it away.
"Where do you all put all that?" Maddie asks.
"Huh? Oh… my belt has this… weird Time Lord bigger on the inside pocket space thing for stuff I carry in human form whenever I morph, then I just sit there after I morph." Danny said.
"I noticed you always reach from behind." Maddie pointed out.
"I didn't choose how this power works." Danny said.
"Wouldn't that be cumbersome, pulling something out like that constantly?" Maddie asks.
"Well, it would be more helpful if I had them with me at all times, I can attach them to my belt. But, he'll see them." Danny pointed out.
"Not if we hide it." Jack said as he ran to a closet. "Was saving this for Halloween… but it'll do for now."
He then pulled out a long robe with a hood, evoking the look of the Grim Reaper.
"Seriously? Why this?" Danny asks.
"It'll hide it, help keep you warm and it looks pretty cool too." Jack said.
"When'd you make it?" Danny asks.
"I didn't. I bought it from what used to be my favorite fishing store before it closed and was replaced with a seasonal Halloween store…" Jack said bitterly.
"Oh…" Danny said as he put the robe on. "So?" He asks, gesturing to himself.
"You look ready for battle…" Jack said.
"And to save everyone, especially Danielle…" Maddie said.
"That part I'm counting on…" Danny said, looking out at the window with a serious look in his eyes.
Present time, at Fenton Works
A phone call came on the landline.
"Hello?" Maddie asks, answering the phone. "Oh? Pamela…" She went with minor disdain before hearing what she had to say. "I'm sorry, but there has been little to no shot at helping her. But… Danny Phantom has assured us he knows a way to cure her and everyone else." There was a pause. "Yes… I trust him." She said before nodding. "Understood…"
Once the call ended, she took a long breath.
In the living room, all but one were sitting down.
That one was Achak, looking up out the window in anticipation.
"I pray my faith is not misplaced…" He said under his breath.
As that went on, Frostbite eyed him curiously.
"What kind of ghost are you exactly? You appear… very different. Even I can sense it." He questioned.
Achak did not look in his direction, still with his eyes directed to outside.
"I am…a spirit... all that remains of my old self...and all I feel is the pain, rage, hate, guilt, sadness and sorrow from those days. All I know is… freeing my daughter's soul and the end of the beast is the only thing that will bring me peace…"
Seeing as no clearer answer was to be given, Frostbite wisely chose to not press it further.
Maddie got up, growing impatient.
"I can't just sit here and hope for something. I need to do something… let me go to the kitchen and make some tea." She said, about to go before Jazz got in her way.
"And risk you trying to use something to melt your way into the ice? No dice, Mom." Jazz said.
"W-What?" Maddie asks with a nervous smile.
"I see you have that blaster, set to a hot enough temperature that could melt through the ice in minutes. Hand it over." Jazz went, motioning her to do so.
Instead, Maddie pulled back with a determined look on her face.
"LET ME THROUGH!" She yelled, her demeanor doing a 180.
She tried to maneuver against her daughter to get to the kitchen, but her husband blocked her and grabbed her.
"Maddie, no!" Jack pleaded as he tried to restrain his hysterical wife.
"LET ME GO!" Maddie screamed, anger on her face and tears in her eyes as she failed to break free..
"You can't help her…" Jack said.
Maddie ceased trying to get out, her body loosening in defeat.
"She's our girl… she may not have been born natural or without our consent… but…" Maddie sobbed. "I love her… I've grown to love her so much…"
As Maddie broke down in tears, Jack's hold turned into a hug.
"So have I, Mads… so have I…" He said, trying hard not to cry himself.
Jazz hugged her parents in equal heartbreak as Tucker and Frostbite kept quiet to give them space.
Achak, still not looking at anyone else, kept his words to himself.
"Like before… the beast has hurt families… I only hope that Danny Phantom can accomplish what he intends…"
In the basement
Danielle and Sam were still in the stockades, both trying to pass the time as they ignored their situation as best as they could.
"Sam?" Danielle asks.
"Yeah?" Sam responded.
"If… and this is a big if… if Danny can't win… what's gonna happen to us?" Danielle asks.
That question scared the goth girl to be honest, and she wasn't sure how to respond.
"To be honest… that's too dark and grim even for my mind to wrap around…" Sam admitted.
Hearing that made Danielle cry, tears fell from her eyes as she felt so many regrets.
"After this… I don't care who he dates. Danny can date or marry anyone he wants. You, Ember, Valerie, Nat, that pretty blonde girl that hangs out with the snotty Hispanic girl, even Sally May… I shouldn't have thought him spending time with new people was gonna wreck what we have… I got selfish and wanted to hoard as much time as I could, thinking things would be the same forever and not care how he feels…" She said, letting more tears out.
Sam, hearing this, thought back to how she was. How she didn't let other girls close to Danny, letting him decide for himself, how she faked accepting Valerie and acted like it didn't bother her.
"You're not the only one…" Sam said bitterly, hating how she acted before.
Now, all Danielle can do is hope Danny can do what was deemed impossible.
The winds started to die down a bit, though the chill remained.
The trucks were close, ready for him to move all 5 of them closer to blow them up.
Danny kept his eyes shut, shutting out the world when he heard something. He looked away, recalling the presence of a train station.
Trains operating this late? He thought. However, once the train stopped, he felt something was wrong.
"Wait…" He said.
He heard a sinister laugh from it, causing him to realize he's not the only one who chose to conserve power. Except this one chose to hijack a train, letting it bring him to where he's to face Danny.
The doors opened and inside was the hunched over Wendigo. Turning his head, his grin widened.
"I knew I'd speed things up when I spotted this thing. Took a while to get it to work…" He then slowly inched towards Danny. "This is the part…" He then ran on all fours. "... where you should…" He then leapt to pounce on Danny. "RUN!"
However, Danny was not undaunted. Morphing quickly, he reached for what was on his left.
The Wendigo was surprised to find something wrapped around his emaciated body, something metal.
"Huh? What gives?!" He questioned angrily.
"This ends." Danny said as he created two copies.
The copies then created sword constructs and flew in.
In a moment, the Wendigo's hands, legs and head were cut clean off.
As the pieces fell, Danny recalled his copies and readied his other hand for a ball of ghost fire.
However, the moment the head hit the ground, the Wendigo laughed mockingly.
"Not just yet…" He grinned.
"Huh?" Danny went, the fire going out with his surprise rising.
The Wendigo's body parts then reattached, breaking out of the weapon's grip. With an inhuman growl, he jumped in Danny's direction and slashed out at him.
In response, Danny donned the ecto-saber in time, using one of the blades as a shield to block the claw.
Danny pushed the Wendigo back, the two beginning their brawl. The Wendigo swung his right hand, making Danny duck in time. Danny swung his two-sided weapon, which connected with the Wendigo's chin and knocked him back. Unwilling to surrender, the Wendigo closed in again, swinging wildly.
"You think you're the only one to prepare? I bulked up on meat and souls! I'm twice as strong now!" He declared.
Not afraid, Danny resumed swinging his weapon, managing to make a few scratches. His plan was to injure the beast enough before setting the area ablaze with an explosion.
He made it clear he wasn't afraid as he punched a claw that almost hit his face.
He thought fast when the Wendigo spun around to behind him, creating a shield that blocked several swipes before the Wendigo somersaulted over him in a failed attempt to strike him from above. Danny moved in time to avoid it.
Spinning the weapon like a helicopter, Danny struck the beast, cutting it to pieces. Reforming, the Wendigo grew angered as he struck Danny, only for the dual energy beams used as blades to block both claws. The Wendigo pulled back and grunted loudly in anger.
Danny scoffed as he spun his weapon before leaping up, thrusting his weapon downward in an attempt to stab him. The Wendigo jumped out of the way and, aiming carefully, kicked Danny's hand, causing him to let go of the weapon, deactivating it. Danny would have retrieved it had the impact not also knocked him back.
Danny spun backwards until he landed on his feet, slamming his fist on the ground and sent crescent blasts sliding on the ground. The blasts hit the Wendigo, as he was too overconfident to bother dodging. The blasts hit him, but they were not hot enough to do massive harm that he couldn't regenerate so quickly.
The Wendigo then swung his arm as he sped up to reach Danny, only for Danny to create sword constructs to parry not one, but two swipes. The Wendigo tries to claw him, only for Danny to duck in time, losing the sword constructs in the process. The Wendigo was about to attack again, only for a metal right hook to hit his face. Danny had donned both Ghost Gloves before making two duplicates. All three then used their gauntlets to attack. The Wendigo raised his arms to block as the three sent a barrage of fists within 3 seconds, breaking his guard and his arms. With those lowered, Danny returned the two duplicates to himself, giving him the extra power to energize the fists as he sent rapid-fire fists into the Wendigo, breaking him to pieces.
The anger he felt towards his foe and the desire he had to see his loved ones seemed to have given him a boost, though he was too occupied to notice or care.
The Wendigo was sent into one abandoned truck, not one Danny was hoping to use. The Wendigo reformed with a scowl before seeing the snow around him still falling. With a sinister chuckle, he stepped back while peeling off a piece of the truck before disappearing into the dark and the snow.
Danny gasped, seeing his foe disappear. He thought he heard footsteps of something past him go behind him. As soon as he looked back, he didn't see anything, yet heard a laugh as something zipped past him.
"Hrh?" Danny went quickly.
He heard another set of steps before deciding now was the time to set the area ablaze by destroying the trucks.
However, he was too late as he heard steps and, from the corner of his eyes, sees something about to reach him. It was the piece of the truck's trailer, causing Danny to react by blocking the hit with one glove, causing it to tear. He saw a pair of fangs, causing him to react by raising the other gloved hand, causing said glove damage. Once the teeth pulled back, a pair of claws swung down, causing tears in the cowl on the shoulder, damaging it while also cutting him slightly.
Feeling some pain as the impact of the cuts pushed him back into the truck stop, creating an impact of his own, Danny pushed himself off to see the Wendigo hold up two discarded cars by people who work at the truck stop, in his hands.
"CA-ATCH!" The Wendigo went like a childish troublemaker as he threw the trucks at Danny.
Thinking fast, Danny used the Ghost Gloves to punch the cars out of the way, breaking the Gloves in the process.
Seeing Danny disarmed, the Wendigo zipped in and began swinging his claws. Danny was too late to react as he felt deep cuts to his arms, legs and sides. This in turn destroyed the robe, exposing him completely and his cuts to the elements.
Panting from the pain, a frustrated Danny pulled out the sword his father gave him. With an angered cry, he thrusted the sword into the Wendigo, impaling it by the stomach and sending it into the side of an abandoned 18-wheeler's cargo.
The Wendigo hit tried to pull the blade out, even as his feet did not reach the ground, before Danny walked towards him, shooting powerful fireballs, which injured his foe greatly, as evident by the pained screeches. Once reaching, Danny grabbed the sword by the hilt before pulling it out by swinging hard and keeping his foe off the ground. The Wendigo only laughed mockingly upon seeing the enraged look on Danny's face. Danny responded with a powerful swing, sending the Wendigo into the truck stop, breaking it down to pieces from the damage to its structure.
Danny took deep breaths, ready to finish this as he looked at the trucks he meant to explode before he heard it.
"Someone's gonna die tonight…" The Wendigo went in a sing-song voice. Danny inched back slightly as he breathed heavily from the pain. "Now I'm gonna take a bite…" The voice went.
Danny was about to perform the portal, only to realize the rubble would shield the Wendigo enough to avoid the worst damage.
"I need a clear shot…" He said under his breath.
In that instant, the ruble was thrown off. The Wendigo screeched and howled like a giant monster. Surrounding its body was a dark aura that was a mass of long, spindly arms. Danny recognized it as the same dark vapors that he saw coming from the revenants upon destruction.
"Was saving this bit of magic for a special occasion!" The Wendigo said as the mass grew before the arms aimed at Danny.
With a swing of his arm, the Wendigo send the spindly arms stretched towards Danny. Thinking fast, Danny used his powers to pull back and avoid the first set of arms before swinging the metal sword and a construct of another sword to slash at the arms, making them dissipate.
Seeing more arms coming at him, Danny did the smart thing and flew upward.
"Get back!" He shouted, kicking his legs to make a construct to blast the arms.
He was distracted as the Wendigo leapt out of the dark mass and opened his jaws.
"GRAGH!" He went before his teeth pierced Danny's shoulder as he wrapped his arms around him.
"GAAAAARRRGGHH!" He went in pain as he felt the piercing pain.
"I'm gonna eat you up and feed what's left to your sister before I eat her! Her soul's mine!" The Wendigo declared sadistically.
Big mistake… A thought in Danny's head went.
Hearing that caused Danny to just shut off whatever pain he felt. Anger filling him, he then emitted a white fire on his body. The heat was too much to make the Wendigo let go and push away.
Using telekinesis, he let go of the sword, which channeled his ghostly fire before it swung to the still in air Wendigo, going right through its chest.
"GRAAAUURRGGHH!" Went the Wendigo as its icy heart melted from the heat off the blade.
The Wendigo landed on the ground, both knees on the ground as he hissed from pain that wasn't healing yet.
His head hit the ground, damaging the fake skull he wore, exposing most of the upper half of his face.
It was then he noticed one truck being lifted towards him. Then two more. He saw they were done by copies of Danny Phantom. As two more were pushed closer, he saw the copies fly up and return to the real Danny Phantom, who was hovering 20 feet in the air and looking down with intensity.
"Does it hurt yet?" He asks in faux-sympathy. "Good…" That faux-sympathy was gone.
Raising his fist, he created a large 1-second portal, dropping lava from it.
The Wendigo was too weakened to move out of the way as it landed on him, hitting its target.
"AAAARRRRRGGGGHHH!" He went, the lava burning him and causing flames on his body.
Danny would have waited for the heat of the lava to get to the sauce, but he had no patience.
"I'll put you out of everyone's misery…" He said in a hush, angered tone.
He flew higher into the air, putting both hands together and creating large white fireball, one as big as the RV. He swung it downward.
Too injured from the heat and seeing this attack coming towards him, the Wendigo chose his final words carefully.
"I hate you…" He said like a spoiled child.
The fireball connected, the addition of more heat reached the trucks.
That's when it happened.
"GGGRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!" A loud, angered scream went, almost as long as the explosion.
An explosion that was seen throughout the Amity Park that moved many clouds of the way.
In town
Several people in their homes and the shelter saw the explosion. The revenants themselves that stalked the streets paused, almost as if they had turned off.
Jack and Maddie themselves look out the window, seeing the light of that explosion.
"Was that... what I think it was?" Jack asks Maddie, who looked equally as hopeful.
After a few moments, the explosion was over, revealing Danny himself was using an oval-shaped shield to protect himself. One he lowered it, he saw the damage the explosion caused.
A 2 mile radius explosion.
"How has someone not been rushed to the hospital after eating that stuff?" He asked incredulously. Coughing as some smoke got in his face, Danny fanned it out of his face.
Now, he had to see for himself if it worked as he landed.
Taking a few steps forward, he looked forward, hoping to catch a sign, or more accurately no sign, of the Wendigo.
He saw what looked like an antler sticking out of the ground. He panicked and looked for the sword his father gave him, levitating to his hand before taking a better look at what it was. It was the fake skull he wore, burnt up and slowly breaking to pieces.
It took seconds before it registered what it was. That's when his ghost sense went off.
Turning to his right and left, he saw the same blue fiery lights, which he knew now are souls. All of them were rising upward. Danny realized it meant one thing. All that danger and terror had ended, as the Wendigo was no more.
"Finally..." He said letting out a sigh of relief. "It's finally over."
At Fenton Works
Danielle was still in the stockade, gasping hard at trying to resist the influence. However, as she breathed heavily and her brow soaked in sweat, it suddenly stopped.
With a gasp, her eyes opened. They were blue.
The hunger and pain were gone. Sliding the slit open, she looked out.
"Sam?" She called out.
"Yeah?" She asks.
"The pain! Is i-"
"Gone for me? Yeah…" Sam responded.
Danielle realized this meant one thing as she smiled.
"He did it…"

Invader Johnny: That's what these stories will do, push him to the limits of how far he'll go to stop a terrifying monster.
danifan3000: Not sure if I'll do fusion as a power.
Luiz4200: We shall see.
RonaldM40196867: This was was already brought up. Same as last answer. Probably not. Because he had fireballs in "Claw of he Wild", I assumed he could do that. I just answered that. Yes.
