Chapter 2: A Sky-High Battle! Fight For The Zephyr Badge!
Michael and the girls entered Violet City. They were mostly amazed at how big the city was despite its old-fashioned look.
Twilight - "So what are we gonna do for now Michael?"
Michael - "We'll split up for now. You girls are gonna search the city for Rainbow and Mumei. Meanwhile, I'll head for the Pokémon Center to have Nurse Joy check on the egg here."
Clair - "Good idea. We'll see you at the Pokémon Center then."
Michael - "Ok. See you girls in a bit."
While the girls split up to search more of the city for their friends, Michael went about finding the Pokémon Center. Suddenly, he watched as a Kimono girl silently walked over to him.
? - "Me oh my... That egg must be...! I see... So it was handed from Mr. Pokémon to Professor Elm, then from Professor Elm to you. Now I get it..."
The girl stepped back a bit.
? - "That egg is truly an important egg. Please do take good care of it for me. Is that understood?"
The mysterious girl spun around a few times.
? - "I am counting on you."
Then the girl walked away as silently as she had appeared. Michael watched as she disappeared back into the crowd.
Michael - "Ok. That just happened."
Just as he started walking again, a sudden cracking sound stopped him.
Michael - "What was that?"
He then looked down at the Incubator as the cracking sound happened again.
Michael - "Ah crap..."
Meanwhile, after an hour of searching, Rainbow and Mumei were finally found.
Twilight - "There you two are."
Rainbow - "Oh hey Twilight. Were you guys looking for us?"
Kronii - "Only for the last hour."
Mumei - "Sorry Kronii. Times it's easy to get lost around here if you aren't paying attention."
Clair - "Let's be a bit more forgiving since this is Mumei's hometown after all."
Rainbow - "Where's Michael by the way?"
Sabrina - "At the Pokémon Center."
Mumei - "What for?"
Twilight - "Well..."
Along the way to the Pokémon Center, Twilight quickly explained the situation involving the Pokémon egg Professor Elm and Mr. Pokémon gave him. They reached the building and were surprised to see Swampert outside waving to them.
Rainbow - "Hey Swampert. What are you doing out here?"
Swampert - "Nice to see you and Mumei again too Rainbow. And Michael asked me to wait out here for you girls."
Twilight - "He didn't have to do that."
Swampert - "Well he actually has a surprise for you all. Just follow me to see it."
The girls followed Swampert into the Pokémon Center, wondering what the surprise was. There they found Michael sitting at a booth, with Delphox and Ninetales sitting across from him. And on the table, there was the surprise.
Clair - "Is that..."
Michael - "Yep. Girls. Say hello to Togepi, our newest member of the family."
The girls, even Rainbow, cooed at how cute Togepi is. Twilight then noticed three more Incubators with Pokémon eggs in them.
Twilight - "How did you get those three Pokémon eggs Michael?"
Michael - "After Togepi hatched and was given a check-up by Nurse Joy, she told me about these three Pokémon eggs that were just left here by a trainer and forgotten about. She couldn't find the right trainer to give them to. That was until I came along."
Clair - "And that's also why you have Delphox and Ninetales out, right? To help you take care of these three eggs?"
Michael - "Yes. And you girls as well."
Kronii - "We'd be more than happy to help you with the eggs Michael."
Michael - "Thank you. By the way Mumei. Have you battled Falkner for the Zephyr Badge yet?"
Mumei - "I have actually. He also told me that he's waiting for you to show up."
Michael - "Well he'll be waiting a bit longer because I want to head for the nearby Ruins of Alph and catch some Pokémon."
The girls offered to take the eggs so Michael, Delphox, and Ninetales could have themselves free to battle if needed. Rainbow showed off her newly caught Hoothoot and Mareep. The party then headed to the Ruins of Alph. At the Ruins, Michael and Twilight caught Natu, while Michael also caught a Smeargle outside, along with encountering a Johtoian Wooper. He then took a quick peak inside the ruins and caught an Unown. They then returned to the Pokémon Center after finding nothing else. There it was decided that Delphox and Ninetales would stay here and take care of Togepi and the eggs, with Swampert offering to assist them, while Michael took on the gym. Soon Michael and the girls set off for the gym.
Falkner - "I was wondering when you would show up."
Michael - "Apologies Falkner. I wanted to take a look around your beautiful city before coming to challenge you for your gym badge."
Falkner - "I thank you for your kind words. Now then. I accept your challenge as leader of the Violet City gym!"
Everyone went to the gym's battlefield, which was on the roof. A woman wearing the League's referee uniform then walked over to the referee's stand.
Abigail - "This is the Violet City Gym Battle between Gym Leader Falkner and Challenger Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will be two vs. all. The battle will continue until all Pokémon on one side are unable to continue. Are both sides ready?"
Falkner/Michael - "Ready!"
Both trainers activated their Battle Disks.

Falkner - "Go Pidgeot!"
Michael - "Greninja I choose you!"
Match #1: Greninja (Wave Incense) Vs. Pidgeot (Sharp Beak)
Abigail - "Greninja Vs. Pidgeot! Begin!"
Turn #1
Michael's Hand: 5 + 1 = 6
Falkner's Hand: 5 + 1 = 6
Michael - "Let's go Greninja! Stronger and stronger!"
Grenina roared as he entered his Battle Bond form.
Falkner - "Flying Booster! Air Wing Slash!"
Michael - "Dark Booster, Ice Booster, and Water Booster! Dark Ice Shuriken!"
Falkner's Hand: 6 – 1 = 5
Michael's Hand: 6 – 3 = 3
Flying Booster (Falkner): Turn 1/3
Dark Booster (Michael): Turn 1/3
Ice Booster (Michael): Turn 1/3
Water Booster (Michael): Turn 1/3
Air Slash's Current Power: 75 + 37.5 = 112.5 + 22.5 = 135
Wing Attack's Current Power: 60 + 30 = 90 + 18 = 108
Air Wing Slash's Current Power: 135 + 108 = 243
Dark Pulse's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144
Ice Beam's Current Power: 90 + 18 = 108
Water Shuriken's Current Power: 20 + 10 = 30 + 6 = 36
Dark Ice Shuriken's Current Power: 144 + 108 = 252 + 36 = 288 x 2 = 576 x 3 = 1,728
Greninja fired off his three Shuriken's, with them all striking his Pidgeot full force and knocking her out.
Abigail - "Pidgeot is unable to battle! Greninja wins!"
Falkner's Remaining Pokémon: 2 – 1 = 1
Falkner returned Pidgeot.
Falkner - "Thank you Pidgeot. Get a good rest. Go Noctowl!"
Abigail - "Will you change Pokémon challenger Michael?"
Michael crossed his arms, silently saying no.

Match #2: Greninja (Wave Incense) Vs. Noctowl (Sharp Beak)
Abigail - "Greninja Vs. Noctowl! Begin!"
Turn #2
Michael's Hand: 5 + 1 = 6
Falkner's Hand: 3 + 1 = 4
Flying Booster (Falkner): Turn 2/3
Dark Booster (Michael): Turn 2/3
Ice Booster (Michael): Turn 2/3
Water Booster (Michael): Turn 2/3
Falkner - "Heat Wave Slash!"
Michael - "Dark Ice Shuriken!"
Air Slash's Current Power: 75 + 37.5 = 112.5 + 22.5 = 135 + 27 = 162
Heat Wave Slash's Current Power: 95 + 162 = 257/2 = 128.5
Much like with his Pidgeot, Falkner's Noctowl was just as quickly knocked out.
Abigail - "Noctowl is unable to battle! Greninja wins!"
Falkner's Remaining Pokémon: 1 – 1 = 0
Falkner silently returned his Noctowl.

Abigail - "Both of Gym Leader Falkner's Pokémon are unable to battle! So the winner is the challenger, Michael Masi!"
The girls cheered for Michael's victory. Michael then met Falkner at midfield.
Falkner - "Well that was a quick loss."
Michael - "Sorry Falkner."
Falkner - "Don't worry about it. All you did was prove that you are the stronger trainer here. And according to the Pokémon League Rules, I award you the Zephyr Badge."
Michael happily took the badge.
Michael - "Alright! Johto Badge number one! We just got the Zephyr Badge!"
Greninja silently joined in the celebration.
? - "Michael!"
Everyone then turned to see Ninetales running towards them. She then fell to her knees skidding to a stop. Michael rushed over to check on her.
Michael - "What's wrong Ninetales?"
Ninetales - "It's the eggs! They're about to hatch!"
