Annabeth knew it was going to be difficult after getting him out, but she wasn't expecting it to kick off the first war since Gaea was put back to sleep 300 years before when a flesh and blood ancient deity stirs and rises from the Pit after them.

At the age of sixteen, everyone presents as Alpha, Beta or Omega. Percy was always expected to be a leader - as a child of Poseidon he was unlikely to be anything else - so it wasn't a surprise for him when he turned out as an alpha.
