Song: Elf on the shelf is watching you

Note: the song is a musical telling of the book "Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition" and though I searched I could not find it on YouTube, nor in a Google search. A shortened version was used as a commercial, which I found on YouTube under the name "Elf on the Shelf - TV spot". As such I apologize that unlike the other songfics in this story, the full song won't be available to listen to.
As the polite applause continued North felt a tug on his coat. He looked down and whispered "Shostakovich" in surprise. For beside his boot was a group of elves but, unlike the one-piece red hat-suited and clumsy chaps he was used to (or the flying Elves who were a bit more all there version of North's usual 'helpers'), these chaps were completely different. There were two groups of them. The first group was no bigger than 13in, dressed in all red with white trim, and were floating off the ground. The second group was the same size as his usual elves, half were dressed in dark green outfits with a variety of gadgets attached to their belts, half were dressed in red shirts and green suspenders and had pickaxes at their belts-the entire outfit covered in soot.
"Hello, sir!" One of the dark green outfitted ones said and the entire cluster of them saluted.
"Ha, ha! Scout elves, prep and landing elves, coal elves! I should have known you vould be here!"
"What in the nelly?" Bunny asked as he spotted the various elves that he had never seen before.
"Hello Easter Bunny sir," One of the floating elves greeted. "We're Santa's helpers. Well some of them at least."
"But, the… the… oh, you know what I mean!"
"Yeah, our cousins leave quite an impression don't they," One of the pickax holders said. "They mean well but uh, they aren't all there if you know what I mean." He emphasized his words with a finger spun around his ear in the universal sign for loony.
"Zese are elves zat vatch over kids and help me keep lists." North pointed out the floating fellas. "And zese are elves zat prepare the homes for my visit." North pointed to the suited and soot-covered group. "One set for nice (prep and landing) and one for naughty (coal elf brigade)."
"Then how come they are never at the pole?" Bunny accused.
"We and our legends are rather new, so we mostly take a back seat in things." Explained a 13in sweet female elf with carrot hair, in a red tutu-like outfit.
"Like in the coco bars. HA HA!" An older soot-covered elf with a long beard joked.
"And which legends are those?" Bunny asked.
The elves smiled. "We were hoping you would ask!"
The floaters rose high above the crowd, who were making their way to other parts of the festival as the Miser brothers and their mini-mes were lost in their own worlds. At the peak of the festival air space, they mingled with the light spirits and positioned themselves in a choir bleachers-like formation.
(1)Trumpets and drums appeared and somehow an Oregon sound seemed to play mysteriously with the little 13in elves. One elf with sandy brown hair and a tan complexion floated up front and his voice rang loud and deep, catching everyone's focus.
"Here's a Christmas secret kids oh please be sure to keep it. Santa Claus is counting on you all."
A spotlight light shown on North who gave a thumbs up in acknowledgment.
"Every year at Christmas time he sends us elves to watch you, and we go back and tell him who's been bad and who's been good."
Every elf in the choir formation now sang. "The elf on the shelf is watching you, what you say, and what you do, the elf on the shelf is watching you each and every Christmas."
A new elf, this one blond and white in complexion, now took point. "Each night when you're asleep, I'll fly to Santa's side, and tell him if you have told the truth or if you lied. Christmas magic helps to make me quick, for going back and forth between your house and old St. Nick."
Again the choir sang as one.
Then a black-haired and brown-complexioned elf sang solo. "I come back to your home before you are awake, then you will have to find the newest place that I will take. We'll play Christmas hide and seek together me and you. Please remember to give me a name, that's the 1st thing you must do before we start our game.
The choir sang with even more exuberance now.
Now the female in a tutu who had spoken to Bunny came forward. "I listen to your wish and note it in your file. You'll know that I'm listening when you see my little smile. When Christmas Eve is here, my job is at an end, and I'll go back to Santa Claus and all my other friends. I hope the wishes you have made this year will all come true."
The choir's voices rang with the addition of several of the Prep and landing and coal elves joining in. "When Santa rings his bell we'll disappear. But don't you threat because you can bet that we'll be back next year!"
The scout elves flew off and their golden trailers produced a sparkling snowflake design in their wake.
I hope you like it.
I reference the flying elves from The Polar Express at the beginning of this chapter. I also wrote a crossover of Rise of the Guardians and Polar Express called "The Freight Hopper of the Polar Express" if you are interested in another Christmas story.
I got most of my descriptions of the scout elves from the "An Elf's Story" movie. I highly recommend this movie and the Elf Pets movies as well. They are so cute.
