Chapter Four
Jake, Amy and Sam stepped back nervously as a furious looking Grimes entered the living room.
"What did you do to my door you asshole!" cried a horrified Amy.
"I think the more important question is, how did you know I'd be here?" asked a confused and nervous Sam.
"I followed you, dumbass!" seethed Grimes, "I knew you'd go to talk to Santiago and I had a hunch she still lived here!"
"So it was you that sent those officers to attack me!" snapped Amy angrily.
"Of course it was!" snapped Grimes, "Drop your complaint, or I'll make you regret it!"
"Come on, Captain, this isn't the way to deal with things."
The 64 captain simply ran over and smacked Sam across the face, sending him to the floor and causing Amy to yelp in alarm. "You bastard!" she snapped furiously, "This is my apartment, I'm me, and I won't allow violence against anybody inside this apartment!"
Jake came to stand in front of the middle-aged man. "Listen, we can all talk like reasonable adults," he said calmly, "Just confess to what you did and don't be stupid."
The 64 captain suddenly grabbed the 99 detective by the shirt collar and threw him across the room, where he crashed into a wall and lay there, unmoving.
"JAKE!" yelled the brunette in fear.
Amy slowly backed away; her eyes widening in fear as Grimes advanced on her.
"Stay away from me!" begged Amy.
"You shouldn't have reported me, Santiago," said her former mentor coldly, "I don't tolerate rats who think they can squeal on me and take me down. You're going to regret messing with me."
As Grimes got into Amy's face, the brunette suddenly slapped him across the face before wincing due to her body still aching.
"Don't try to fight!" hissed Grimes into the young woman's ear, "You're still recovering from the beating my officers gave you!"
"P-please, don't hurt me!" begged Amy in a voice quivering with fear.
"Shut it!" barked the 64 captain, "I'm gonna teach you a lesson that you'll never forget!"
Grimes then grabbed a chunk of Amy's hair and dragged her through to her and Jake's bedroom; ignoring the terrified whimpering and pleading.
The female sergeant was then thrown on to the bed. Amy trembled in fear as Grimes approached the bed.
Suddenly, David leapt out of nowhere, leapt on to the captain's back and put his head in a headlock. Grimes yelled in fury and tried to throw the officer off, but David held on tight. David then rolled off, scrambled to his feet and pulled out his taser. "Stay away from my baby sister you creep!" he snapped.
David then fired his taser at the 64 captain, who yelled in pain as jolts of electricity shot through him. After a few moments, Grimes crumpled to the floor, unmoving.
Amy heaved a huge sigh of relief as she got off the bed and walked over to her brother. "David, how did you get here?" she asked.
"Mom and Dad told me about what happened," explained David as he and Amy walked over to Grimes, "I came over to see how you were doing."
"Thanks for the rescue." thanked Amy, smiling.
"No problem, sis." said David.
Amy walked over to Grimes and checked for a pulse, which she found. "He's still alive." she announced.
The Santiago siblings walked through to the living room. Jake and Sam groaned as they slowly came to. Amy ran over to her husband and helped him to his feet.
"Jake, are you okay?" asked Amy in concern.
"Yeah, I'll be okay," assured Jake as he looked at his wife in concern, "Are you okay? Did Grimes hurt you?"
"He never got the chance: David came and knocked him out." explained the sergeant.
Jake gave David a small smile.
Afterwards, Grimes was taken to the 99 and placed in holding before being transferred to the interrogation room. Grimes was currently sat on one side of the table, scowling. The door opened and Terry entered, followed by Laura. The two sat down on the opposite side of the table.
"I have nothing to say to either of you!" spat Grimes defiantly, "Hasn't my name been dragged through the mud enough already!"
"You're not helping yourself, Grimes!" argued Terry, "You admitted to Amy that you sent those officers to attack her, you broke into her and her husband's apartment and physically assaulted her husband and one of your own detectives!"
"No comment." grumbled the 64 captain.
"We've learned that another detective, Sandra Henderson, left the 64 under mysterious circumstances," said Laura, "Do you want to explain why she left?"
"No comment." repeated Grimes bluntly.
"What exactly were you planning to do to Sergeant Santiago?" questioned Laura.
"I was just going to give the stinking rat a punishment for snitching on me." answered Grimes.
Terry felt his blood turn to ice as he and Laura exchanged horrified glances, the 99 lieutenant then turned his attention back to Grimes. "Grimes … were you planning to rape Sergeant Santiago as a punishment?" he asked in a horrified tone of voice.
"No comment." retorted Grimes.
In the observation room, Holt and Rosa were listening in. Even though the 64 captain hadn't actually confirmed it, the two 99 officers both felt that he had indeed been planning on raping Amy as some sort of sadistic punishment.
"There are bound to be other victims of this man," commented Holt, "But I doubt that he's man enough to confess."
"Just give me five minutes alone with that guy: I'll get him to confess!" snarled Rosa.
"We need actual evidence, Diaz," reminded Holt, "If there are indeed more victims of Grimes', then it will be very difficult to get them to come forward."
The door to the observation room opened and Amy entered; Jake, David and Sam just behind her.
"Santiago, you should be resting." said a surprised Holt.
"I know, I know, but this couldn't wait," said Amy, "I think I might know a way we can discover if there are more victims of Captain Grimes."
"Go on." said Holt curiously.
"Jo and Olivia might know something," began Amy, "Sam mentioned that they're the only two out of all my friends at the 64 that haven't given their opinion on this matter, which got me thinking: what if they have been victims of Grimes, but are too afraid to say anything?"
"That's a good theory, but we can't just force it out of them, and I doubt they'd really trust any of us." replied Holt.
"Then let me talk to them," suggested Amy, "They know me the best and I can maybe convince them to come forward about Grimes."
"Santiago, you're a victim in this case, I can't allow you to do this." said the 99 captain bluntly.
"I think it's the only chance we've got," argued the brunette, "They've known me the longest, so they'll open up to me more easily."
"Look, sir, I know you probably don't like the idea, but I think Amy's right, and I have faith in her." said Jake.
"I'll second that." put in David.
"Me too." replied Sam.
"Oh, alright, I'll allow you to speak with them," said Holt, "But, you'll be doing it with help from Detective Diaz."
"Wouldn't have it any other way." said Amy, smiling.
Amy and Rosa then did the same high five they'd done when they'd started work on tracking down Rosa's white whale.
Soon after, Amy and Rosa had gathered Jo and Olivia together and had taken them to a nearby café in order to talk.
"So, what did you want to talk to us about?" asked Jo curiously.
"We want to ask hou more stuff about Captain Grimes." said Rosa gruffly.
Jo and Olivia exchanged nervous glances with each other. "What do you want to know?" they asked in unison.
"Well, I know this might be a difficult thing to answer, but has Grimes ever acted inappropriately towards you?"
The two detectives seemed surprised by the question. Olivia then be*an drumming her fingers nervously on the table. "W-we can't say." she answered nervously.
"It's okay, you're safe here," assured Rosa gently, "Captain Grimes is being held at the 99: he burst into Jake and Amy's apartment, admitted to sending those officers to attack Amy, physically assaulted Jake and Sam Walsh, and we're not entirely sure, but we think that he wanted to rape Amy as punishment for reporting him."
"What!" cried Jo in shock before sighing, "Okay, there is … some stuff about Grimes that he wouldn't want people learning about."
"Jo, no." said Olivia quickly.
"They need to know, Liv." retorted Jo.
The younger detective simply sighed. "Okay." she said, "Captain Grimes kissed me too when I made detective. I was shocked, but I wasn't brave like you, Amy: I just stayed."
"Oh, I know I acted brave, but I was shaking on the inside," replied Amy sympathetically, "I didn't even report Grimes all those years ago."
"Yeah, well it's a good thing you got out when you did, because after he pulls that kissing stunt, it only gets worse," informed Jo in a quiet whisper, "Grimes … escalates things when you continue to achieve anything after becoming detective. H-he forced me and Olivia to start taking nude photos of ourselves so that he could have them."
"Oh my god." uttered a horrified Amy.
"He uses these photos to blackmail female colleagues: threatens to release them if any female detective or female officer with a higher status were to report him." informed Olivia in a distraught voice.
"Olivia eventually told me what Grimes was doing," said Jo, "We teamed up to try and take Grimes down. We were desperate, so we tried breaking into his house and stealing his laptop so that we could get those nudes."
"But Grimes caught us," said Olivia before shuddering, "As punishment for what we did, he … he raped us."
"Asshole." muttered a disgusted Rosa.
Amy shuddered in horror at the thought of what she had learned, but she now felt somewhat guilty that she hadn't reported this guy sooner.
