"Ok, but you remember when mom use to get her nails done and she use to drag you to the salon", Harper muffled, eating her breakfast. The Halstead were at Pamela's Bakery, having breakfast before school and work."I do remember those horrible times. How do you know about it , you weren't even alive. ""I felt like I lived through the moments thanks to moms video camera", Harper replied, remembering the video." I use to hate those appointments. Mom use to have the nail tech clean my nails and it was torture. ""Your being over dramatic jay."" Here you go , was everything great", the waitress asked, handing Jay the check."Yes , everything was splendid, thank you", Jay replied."Ok, let's get our day started", Jay said; and with that the Halstead's began there crazy day.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The following afternoon Jay's pov Jay sat at the bar watching the Rodiger family eat like nothing. After everything that has happened, they show no care."Oh for God's sake, your following us now", Phil said as Jay approached their table."Having fun now, huh Lonnie.," Jay said, completely ignoring Phil."Your not suppose to be in 100 hundred feet of our family", Phil said as he pushed Jay's chest with 2 fingers. Jay completely ignored him. "No you need to-", with that Jay had punched Phil in the chest."Y'all know what he did. I'll take care of it."That was Commander Lison", Voight says."You got to end this.""End what", Jay ask , trying to be oblivious. "The Rodiger Family", Voight says , unamused. "First a restraining order, now they filed a formal complaint against you with the city.""You don't know the whole story", Jay says. Which is true. Jay never mentioned the fact that his sister was with Ben the last time he was seen , neither did he mention she found the body." I do , actually."" This unit does not need your name and face in the paper of some vendetta cop. Just let homicide do their job", Hank says."There not though. The family's going to have to eat it everything they walk past Lonnie's Rodiger's house", Jay says , mad that no one's on his side. "The world isn't fair, you just learning this", Hank sarcastically says."You got potential to be great police Halstead, so drop it."In that second, Jay took it all in. He couldn't drop this case. It was failing Ben, Gail , Danny , Allie. It was failing his little sister. At this point, Jay didn't know what to do.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Harper's Pov"Hey Harper, heard the spring dance is coming up, you got date", James asked all noisy."No, the guys aren't cute at my school and Jay would also freak."Harper was currently at Organized Crime's office. Her second family to get specific."Still letting Jay dictate your love life when he doesn't even have one" James said, pretending to be sad." Very funny , where's your girlfriend James?", the entire unit abrupt into "oohs"."James , I need you to go check out that house, just send the address. Everyone else , check with CIs. Commander Perry says, coming out of his office. "Got it Sarge", James replies getting his keys and heading down the stairs, with the rest if the unit following. "Harp, can I talk to you in my office", Perry asks, walking back into his office."Sure", Harp replies, following Perry. "Harp , please close the door."" Sure Perry", Harper says while closing the door to his office and taking a seat. Harper didn't know what was going on. "Hershey Kiss", Perry offers, acting all cool and so."Sure.""So, I wanted to ask , what's going on with the Ben Corson Case. In other words, what had your brother told you or you have found out."" Jay got a formal complaint filed against him, Homicide has done nothing to the case. So in other words, no justice", Harper says , getting frustrated just talking about the case." That's alot", Perry says , seeing the kid already getting frustrated. "I wanted to ask you since your available and then I will run it by your brother when he gets off of work.""Ok, what's up", Harper says , intrigued. "I wanted to transfer the case out of Homicide", Perry says calmly."What!", Harper Exclaims. " What unit are you going to give it to, no one is going to solve it, atleast with Homicide there is a sprinkle of hope", Harper yells, standing out of her chair. "I'll transfer the case to Organize Crime", Perry says, already expecting that reaction from Harper."Oh", Harper says , sitting back in her chair , embarrassed. "Really?""Yes Harper, really. Your right, Homicide is doing nothing for this case. Not only do I want justice for Ben and his family, but for you as well. You were only 9 when it all happened, you lost your innocence that day.""What do you say Harper", Perry asks.Harper let's it all sink in. Could justice really be served. Homicide is doing nothing, Jay's new unit is worse. This can be the final chance to bring justice."Ok", Harper says after a long period of silence ."Ok", Perry says with a smile on his face.After a long minute of silence , Perry speaks up," Is your brother going to react the same way you did when I ask him" he says sarcastically; getting a smile from Harper.For the rest of the time the team was out on the case, Harper and Perry chatted . It felt like nothing was wrong in the world for that period of time.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Jay's Pov" You knew the family", Antonio asks, having beers with Jay after a hectic day of work."He's the younger brother of a girl I dated in high school , and his parents , Danny and Gail, came to my graduation from the Academy", Jay states."I get a call from a neighbor saying they found Ben's body. I meat up with Commander Perry, first on scene. It was horrible, blood everywhere", Jay says , tears forming in his eyes judt thinking about it."You weren't a cop when this happen", Antonio asks, confused. "Uh, no I was still a Sargeant with the Rangers", Jay answers , realizing he messed up with the words he chose."So you knew Commander Perry before you made it to Organize Crime", Antonio asks, generally curious. "Yes, it's not that big of a deal."" I just remember the witness found Ben's body by his red shoes.""There was a witness, I don't remember that from the case file?", Antonio says, not remembering that from the case."Oh ya, it was something Homicide picked up, nothing big to the case" Jay said , lying to his teeth. He couldn't let them find out the witness was his 9 year old sister at the time."I remember his father alibied him out", Antonio says , getting the cue to not ponder on the witness detail."They never had anything on Lonnie, nothing?""They found him jerking outside of an elementary, kiddy porn on his computer, and secret pictures he had taken of Ben and... his friends" Jay says careful not to mention the details of his sister."We all new it was Lonnie, but his dad lied and they got a good lawyer", Jay says with spiteful anger laced on his tongue."Hey , be careful. You here me", Antonio says , all serious. All Jay can do is nod.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Jay's Pov"So where's Harper", Perry asks, setting down a case of beer on Jay's kitchen counter."She's sleeping. With school, practice. It's alot. Not to mention she's detoxing from Ben's birthday that just passed", Jay mentioned , grabbing a bear."Damm." "Well listen Jay, I wanted to run something by you. I already asked Harper since she was available earlier. "" Can I transfer Ben's Corson's Case-""What!", Jay exclaims, not letting Perry finish. "You two are exactly the same", Perry mumbles."If I could finish; I would transfer the case to Organize Crime. So we can actually solve this case once and for all.""Oh", Jay says , taking it all on."Really?""Yes Jay , really. I've seen you work your butt of to solve this case but have had no help or access to anything. If I get the case transfer, not only would you have access to all the files and information, but also an entire family to back you up", Perry says."In that case, my vote is hell yes", Jay says , happiness running through is blood.With that, Perry and Jay chatted about the norm the rest of the night. Jay was just glad that Ben and Harper might actually get justice.
